    too tight?

Sorry I haven't posted lately, but there's a bunch of drama going on at work. It's got me pretty stressed out. I was doing great after the fill, but now I'm thinking I may be too tight. I can drink liquids fine, but if I try to eat anything, it hurts. I try to eat yogurt for breakfast and I can't finish it because it hurts to eat it. Later in the day it was better, but the past few days, I can't seem to eat anything. I ordered a salad tuesday night and could only eat 2 bites. It hurt and I couldn't eat anymore. I don't lose weight well when I can't eat anything either. My body holds onto the calories I do eat and then when I can eat something, I'll gain. I want to see if I can lose some weight this week and if it'll loosen up, as it usually does as the month goes on, but if I'm still this tight on Monday, I'm going to see about a slight unfill. At least being this tight I won't be tempted to eat too much this weekend. I'm visiting my parents. I've tried to eat most of the food that is usually okay, and it all hurts. I couldn't even eat soup the other night. This is teaching me to eat MUCH slower though. I can nibble if I go extremely slow. It still hurts, but at least I've been able to get some protein down. I don't have acid reflux and don't feel any other side effects. It just hurts when I eat. Weird. Other than that, everything's going great. Well, work sucks. They are giving us a 2% pay cut due to the budget. But the boyfriend is being awesome and I'm very happy with the relationship. I've met his friends now and I think they like me. Our sleep/work schedules are out of synch, so we don't get to spend as much time together as we'd both like, but he is definitely making a big effort to see me more. I'm looking forward to the weekend. It'll be good to see my parents. I'm just dreaming about solid food!!!

    what do you eat?

Breakfast, slimfast chocolate protein shake with spinach (tastes good!) Lunch , 1 cup of chicken noodle soup Snack, a mango &Greek yogurt Dinner, broiled salmon, spinach, 1/2 avocado drizzled with olive oil Sweet, 2 squares of dark chocolate.
  3. I went in today to see my dr for a regular monthly visit, I'm 10 1/2 mos post op and was expecting a fill but he decided not to do one. He thought since I'm staying satisfied for 4 to 4.5 hrs between meals and an occasional snack of yogurt or low fat string cheese, he thought I was good to go. Although my weight loss has been slow, it's been steady, 2-4 lbs a month. Just now have been able to introduce walking into my journey in the last couple of weeks so hopefully I will see a difference in toning. I totally forgot to mention hair loss to him, sheesh. My hair is thinning, I take Biotin but the last 3 weeks I've noticed it really is thinning out. Had blood work done by my PCP this week and all was normal except Vit D, he increased that. I'm wondering if I'm not getting enough protein. I'm not good at tracking, especially if I cook or make something homemade I'm totally lost on MFP. Now eating out like Wendy's chili (small) or Chick-fil-A grilled nuggets I can pull nutrition facts off internet. Tues I got stuck really bad on a DEVIL food choice, don't judge, i was craving a burger, so I got a Wendy's Jr cheeseburger and brought it home, well, like an idiot took too big of a bite and got stuck BIG time and ended up puking my stomach up it felt like, needless to say I don't want another burger for a long time. Surgeon today said to me and laughed "bet you don't want a burger anytime soon do ya" lol, and I replied NOPE! He seems to think I'm really close to being in the green zone or maybe in it, hope so. If I can increase my activity and exercise I'm praying I will see more weight come off than 2 to 4 lbs a month.

    Question about shakes!

I was worried too and I'm only supposed to have 2 oz and I'm 8 weeks out...but I asked my surgeon bc I seem to be able to gulp without even thinking and was worried I was messing everything up, he said nope this is normal bc your tummy is a sleeve and especially depending on how vertical the portion is that remains it may nearly go straight through you! No worries! My bet is if you are in mushies or when you can start adding some dense proteins you will be full must faster! I still am barely able to finish two oz, so for example I am supposed to have 4TBSP of food(yes 2oz) so last night I had 2TBSP Taco Ground Beef(heated) then topped it with 2 TBSP Cottage Cheese, so all protein and I had to stop with one to two small bites left. If it was Greek yogurt it woulda gone down super easy. Hope that helps some!

    banded on Oct 3

I'm on soft food until my first fill, November 16th, so I know exactly what you mean--I began with a general plan of what each day's diet would consist of and now in the second week after liquid, I too am running out of options. My biggest issue is with breakfast: have never cared for eggs but have been eating eggbeaters every day. Today I tried baby oatmeal and it was just bland, even with sweet n low! May have to go back to yogurt (1/2 6 oz. container) Went to the grocery store the other day and just cruised the aisles looking for something that would be good and simple and mushy: best thing I found was a small can of cranberry jelly! Have done mashed potatoes for dinner and have some canned veggies I plan on whipping up. I have been dreaming of mashed cauliflower and so may buy cheap frozen and cook it down and mash it up! But like you, my main dinner in two weeks has been refried Beans with shredded cheese on top. Soon we'll be able to have a small amount of regular--yum-m-m!

    Worried about so many things

I'm one of those who experiences hunger...all the time..It usually hits me within 2 hours after eating. I've been on Pepcid since day one, even tried switching to Prilosec and went back to the Pepcid. I still have hope that it will get better after the 3 mos mark (next week). I feel like I'm eating constantly which is what I was hoping the sleeve would eliminate, so pretty bummed about it. It did get somewhat better when I removed some of the carbs I was eating (banana, yogurt). I know it's not head hunger. I just thought this was going to be a little easier, but it still takes a lot of discipline, planning, willpower and exercise to keep losing.

    Going into week 5

It is really unlikely you can eat 7 ounces of food IF you are following the rule PROTEIN FIRST, VEGETABLES SECOND. Most of us can eat endless quantities of slider foods and larger quantities of liquids/soft foods. 3 weeks ago I mindlessly ate potato chips and there was no restriction whatsoever (fortunately I stopped myself quickly). I can eat a 5 oz Siggis yogurt with no restriction either - but that food is 15 G protein and 13 G Carbs/sugars. When I eat a solid, lean animal protein I can barely do 2 oz at a time. But 7 oz of a dense protein? No freaking way. Now, if you are eating 7 ounces of dense protein, you should definitely contact your surgeon because your sleeve should not be able to hold that much food. You are 3 months out and have lost 30 lbs. The sleeve does not work magic. You have to WORK THE SLEEVE. Anytime you don't do that it WILL cost you progress in your weight loss. I would recommend you track everything you eat and drink and if you are not following the PROTEIN FIRST principle, start following it. You can see my weight loss below - I am now at about 3 lbs a week. I am tweaking as I go. I have just added training/exercise into my routine. I think I can get this up to loosing 4, maybe 5 lbs a week for the next few months but we shall see.
  8. I'm doing well. I'm not quite up and all over the place yet, but the only thing that's hard so far is the puréed diet. Pretty much live on yogurt. My sleeve seems fine. Thanks for asking!
  9. I'm almost 1 year post-opt and Monday I went in for a fill. This was my first fill in 7months. I was at around 4.1cc and my Surgeon filled me to around 4.6/4.7cc (I have a 10cc band). Everything was fine and I was doing liquids and yogurt until Wednesday. Wednesday I was having trouble keeping liquids down. Thursday same story. I PB on all liquids and have really bad heartburn/reflux. I called my surgeon and he can see me first thing Saturday morning. I was curious if anyone as experienced delayed irritation and discomfort after a fill.
  10. Hi folks. Hope everyone had a happy, successful holiday. I just had a couple slices of turkey and a spoonful of au-gratin potatoes. I was completely satisfied and full. Simply amazing! October 3 surgery date and 64 lbs gone! Here's the tip: I was having difficulty taking all my medicine crushed. I used both yogurt and applesauce to mask the flavor of the different BP meds, the Ursodiol, the Iron pill, etc. The medicine would always leave a terrible taste in my mouth & it would last for an hour or more. Then I discovered Popsicle pops again (loved 'em as a kid). Only diffence is, I'm buying them sugar-free now. These really do the trick to get rid of the medicine aftertaste. Try it. No calories, no sodium, no fat, and of course, no carbs. They also are an easy, awesome way to help keep you hydrated. You can have as many as you want, as often as you want. Enjoy!

    Ideas For Puree Stage?

I can't. I'm almost 3 weeks out and can only have Soup (not creamy or chunky), cottage cheese, eggs, Greek yogurt, tofu...I think that's it. I think next week I can start tuna, chicken, and egg salad but I'm sure they'll tell me no to any crackers.

    Help Pls Need Advice !

It gets better when you are able to use other sources of protein. I hated the shakes but will add some powder to my yogurt. It's a learning process that's different for everyone. I am a single mom with two boys and a full time job. I had to make myself get in a routine. first thing every morning I take my vitamins before anything else. The mornings I do anything else I forget. I even set reminders on my phone and log still my foods on my phone. Eventually it becomes second nature. It may take awhile to get they but if you keep trying it will be like brushing your teeth. At first it was really hard but once I started losing it became my motivation to do the right things. Most of us mess up or struggle at first but it gets better with time. Good luck

How much do you eat a day

I'm just over 2 weeks out and I've been on a pretty regular schedule. My daily diet is usually something like this: Breakfast - premier Protein shake lunch (noon to 1) - 1/3 to 1/2 cup of Beans or chili with a tablespoon of reduced fat shredded cheese. Snack - half a yogurt dinner - 1/3 to 1/2 cup beans or chili, or tuna salad Snack - other half of yogurt or another serving of beans I buy little disposable tasting spoons from Kroger and use those to eat. I will also add a tablespoon or so of hummus to a meal/snack when I feel like it. I get a bit of hunger/craving every now and then but it's nothing like the hunger is have while dieting pre-surgery. I also find I stay satiated longer than I ever did pre surgery.
  14. I'm over 2 years out and even when I'm being careful I can get stuck. I am pretty tight, but I can eat something one week and get stuck on it the next. I've even gotten stuck on Wendy's chili. I've gotten better at figuring portion sizes, and have figured out that I do better when I eat 5 small meals a day (some of them just one item, like Greek yogurt).
  15. How much Protein are you getting? Does MFP show you a pie chart of where your calories are coming from between protein fat and carbs? If so, what are the average percentages? Are you getting in all of your Water? My best guess is that, if you just started going to the gym two months ago, your body is right now trying to adapt to the increased level of activity. Most people experience a slow down in weight loss when they take up exercise. Keep up your activity level and maybe try introducing more high protein Snacks to curb hunger. When I started exercising intensely around 4 months post-op, I had to add a morning snack to my regime (a reduced fat cheese stick), because I was getting hungry between Breakfast and lunch. I also added a little granola to my afternoon greek yogurt, so the little bit of extra carbs would help fuel my late afternoon workouts.
  16. Hello fellow sleevers- need some advice and encouragement. I am two weeks post op and having a real hard time with the second phase foods. Soup, yogurt, and a soft boiled egg were “god sends” after being on clears for the first week. However, after “enjoying” some of those for the first few days, I now find myself having an aversion to all of them. Just the site and thought of protein shakes, yogurt, eggs and soup makes me nauseous. Even sipping water, something that I always did prior to surgery, doesn’t interest me. Is this normal?? Have my taste buds gone through some transition along with the surgery? I’m staying the course and trying to consume at least 70-90 g of protein, but it is real difficult!!!! any advice? Is this just temporary?? Will it all change once mushy foods are allowed? Yes, weight is coming off but it sucks in there process. Thanks for you help and advice.
  17. The Protein is to help with healing your "new stomach" was the way it was explained to me. Plus your stomach is swollen because of the surgery, and liquids are easier then the solid food to digest, plus not get stuck on the way in or out. My steps were as follows for being "sleeved': Needing to drink Water & protein after surgery, 1 oz every 15 minutes while you're awake. After going home, for the next week, Clear Liquids, Protein drinks (the amount of protein per day depends on your weight at the date of surgery). Then for weeks 2 & 3, I was able to add puree'd Soups to the list. As long as they were lump & chunk free. for this I have a stick blender (it blended canned Soup up great). I can also have yogurt. Then on week 4 I will be able to add in mushy meats, like tuna fish and canned chicken, mixed with low fat mayo, I just need to make sure everything is moist, and chewed VERY well into small pieces. After that, I can start to add other things back n, being very careful, as it might go down one day, and it's a "no go" on a different day. I have found that I had to slow way down on putting food in my mouth, and chew, chew, chew. Or else it will feel like it is stuck in your throat, or it comes back up. I will say, that in checking different web-sites, there are different time lines on how long you stay on what. check with your surgeon, they have their plans set up for a reason. But you can always ask questions. Good luck, and see you on the other side :0)
  18. I agree with keeping your protein intake high, but you can do it without eating blended meat. I eat greek yogurt, eggs, thick Protein shakes and cottage cheese. Plenty of options to stay liquified meat-free!!
  19. @ Lisamergs thanks for your response... So do you think its the surgery itself that leaves you with the desire not to eat or its more so a mental change for you? Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App Well...I'm not sure lol. Likely a combination of both. Definitely do NOT feel hunger on any regular basis. Early on, if I was "late" for a meal, and got too far out, and then went to eat, I'd be in pain. Odd thing isn't it? And again, I do not think that was a normal reaction. I learned that if I found myself in a situation where I was going to miss a meal, and knew I'd end up in pain then as soon as I COULD eat, having a Protein shake was a better choice than, say, meat and veggies. I also found that if I was experiencing actual PAIN from not having eaten, a simple forbidden pretzel or cracker chewed well was able to quell it. Those were the few only times I ate carbs... And I'm not prone to being a binge-eater, so I could literally eat just the one or two. As soon as my pouch settled down, I'd have my yogurt or cottage cheese. Most meats, on most days, still do not set right with me. I'm more likely to have a triple zero Oikos (15g protein) with a scoop of Protein powder added to it (20g protein) for most meals... Boring, but I hit my protein goals, and today I hit my goal weight. 132 lbs lost since my surgery date. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. So here I am, I week post op... Well, now 1 week 1 day. I feel great!! I'm so bored at home and I miss all the lovely ladies and doctors I work with. But, I also know my body needed this time to recover and get used to my new eating habits. eggs aren't tasting so great to me right now.. I'll try them again in a couple weeks. SF Jello is still too sweet for me, so I've been doing yogurt, pudding, and Popsicles. I found these delicious popsicles that are made from real fruit and have no added sugar. They are tasty. So far, including pre-op diet for two weeks I'm down 31 lbs!! THIRTY-ONE lbs!!! It is such a great feeling! My goal is to get down 120. I'm 1/6+ of the way there!! I can't believe it! I told my boyfriend of 8 years that once I get to my goal weight I want to get married and have more babies since I will know how to eat at that time. Our 6 year old has already been asking for a baby brother or sister. Ha. I just tell him I'm trying to lose weight before that. Luckily he has plenty of aunts and uncles that have or are having babies in the semi near future. I can't wait to add things into my diet like mashed potatoes and bananas and Peanut Butter. Even tortilla shells. I'm interested how my stomach will handle those. Have any of you had problems with very many foods on the mushy/puréed foods? Sorry for my rambling, but I can't sleep right now. I took a late nap with my niece after doing some light housework. Any help or guidance is much appreciated!

  22. Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. I guess I imagined that if I took small bites (which to me is basically about 1/4 teaspoon), chewed really well, and waited a couple of minutes between bites then I wouldn't have any problems. But after thinking it over maybe my bites were a little larger than they should have been and maybe the couple of the bites I didn't wait long enough. I completely get the restriction part and so glad that I have this working for now. I am just going to have to give it some time as far as capacity. Tonight for dinner I boiled and egg and made some egg salad (using light mayo, greek yogurt, and seasonings) and it went down really well not to mention I didn't miss the gobs of full fat mayo I used in the past to make it. Thanks again for all your help and advice!

    Frustrated

Hi all! I am new to this group. I'm sure this question has been answered before but I just need some reassurance. I am 51 years old and had the gastric bypass on 3/5/18. As of today I have lost over 50 pounds in 6 weeks. A few weeks ago I tried eating the soft food stage. I tried cottage cheese, yogurt, canned tuna, soups, etc. I would eat and it would feel like it was stuck and then I would have a severe pain in my stomach. It felt like the food wasn't going down. I would then throw it back up. I saw my doctor and I had an upper GI done and minor surgery to widen my esophagus. That was 2 weeks ago. I am still having the same issue. I feel week, have headaches and have no energy. I want to starting exercising but am afraid that I will pass out. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks! Cindy S.
