Hey! I'm almost at 5 weeks and am feeling pretty good. I have the same type of thing around my incisions. They're not very itchy but a little red and flaky. The doctor said they looked normal so I'm trying not to worry myself. Milk of Magnesia was my method of choice for not being able to do my duty. I took it for a couple days in weeks one and two but haven't had to since. Not being able to go to the bathroom can actually make you feel naseuous so maybe that's contributing. Try adding some milled flax seed to your yogurt (or anything creamy really). The nutritionist said it was a good fiber choice because it's already broken down. Also, the high fiber wheat thins instead of crackers. They're really tasty and may help keeping you regular. As for the pickle...YES...it totally can help an upset stomach. My little brother actually turned me onto pickle juice when I was younger and I started to notice that whenever I had any nausea, it was the only thing that could make it feel better. Anyone stalled in their weight loss right now? I hit the 21 lb mark then stopped losing and actually gained a few pounds back. I know this is the healing time but I'm just wondering if anyone else is seeing this or has any tips about it.

"Air In The Band!" That was my verdict today at my postop appointment. 5 cc of air was in the band that shouldn't have been there. I asked him how it got there, and he said it was his fault, that it would have happened when he hooked the tubing together. Well, I could just kiss him!!! It's that 5 cc of air that probably kept me out of Bandster Hell, and now I'm terrified that I'll descend into the depths of it. So far so good, though, because since being home I tried some more Greek yogurt, and still can't eat it. That gives me reason to worry, though, that something is wrong somewhere. He's having me get an upper GI on Friday to check out how things look in there. So I guess until then I'll just try not to worry about something being wrong. Seems like I still won't be able to eat very much, which is a good thing, but it would be nice not to experience discomfort when I do eat. Maybe I'll just stick with my protein drinks. They seem to go down okay, and keep me pretty full. The tornadoes in my throat and clogged-drain gurgle sounds are still there. Anybody else ever have air in their band?

Hello Everyone, It has been awhile since I posted. I am now 6 weeks post op and have lost a total of 41 pounds. I have been given the ok by my surgeon to start eating regular foods 4 weeks post op. As of recently, my weight loss has slowed. Since that time, some of my food choices have not been the best, or I have no desire to eat (or the things I want to eat such as bread, I cannot have). One of the bad food choices consisted of me eating 8 piece nuggets at chick-fil-a a couple of times, I have also had the insides of a taco or taco salad w/o the shell from taco bell(just meat, lettuce and cheese), and pepper steak w/o rice. I know all of these choices are not the best, and to be honest besides the nuggets I have only been able to consume a few bites. The reason for these bad choices, is because I am sick of tuna, chicken salad, chicken tenders (peeled fried skin off) and deli meat (haven't really had much, but can't stomach eating it w/o bread), yogurt (anything sweet) and the other foods a lot of us eat after having this surgery. It also does not help matters, that I am away at college and I am always on the go. With that said, I need help. Does anyone have any food suggestions that are quick and easy to make and taste good? Are there any breads that are low carb and tolerable to eat at 6 weeks post op? I really don't want to mess up my weight loss by regaining weight and at one point I was starting to feel as if this surgery was a waste of time, but I know now that is so far from the truth. Sorry to be so long winded and any suggestions anyone has would be most helpful. Thanks Lady E.

Thanks all.....I appreciate your notes of congrats! Kat: The one thing that I was very conscious about at all times was my restriction. As soon as I noticed that I could consume more than I should be I booked myself, very quickly, for another fill. I also watched what I ate......I ate high density, low calorie foods such as broccolli, cauliflower, carrots, asparagus, skinless white chicken, tuna steak, red meat only once a week with all visable fat trimmed, whole grain Cereal and soy milk, yogurt, fish such as salmon because the Omega 3's are essential.......etc. I ate 6 very small meals / day, never ate past 7 pm, and never did I ever attempt to sabotage the band by eating items that would easliy slip through like ice cream, milk shakes, etc. After a year I can't imagine going back to the way I use to eat, even I could. I'm so programmed now that I even have my family and friends inspecting labels before the purchase anything. The attitude I copped at the very beginning when first banded.....was that the band was not to be used as a "try not to fail" aid..... I saw it as a tool that would help MY efforts to lose and maintain weight loss....I kept myself the responsible one throughout.....I never held the band responsible....I also kept myself the accountable one. I always looked at the work towards weight loss was my job, not the band's....the band was my backup, my support. This attitude, this routine, has worked so well for me.....I am very proud of my success and I can tell you this......I would do it all again in a heartbeat. Carol

What type of pre-op diet are you on, and how are you doing?
GlitterG replied to Elle23's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Day 8 of 14 I cant stomach the shakes first thing in the morning (had to give up my coffee which is just unbearable) for Breakfast : 8oz apple juice 5oz yogurt snack: Jello or broth (popsicle) lunch: 26 g Protein shake with skim milk 1/4 cup cottage cheese snack: popsicle or broth dinner" 26 g Protein Shake with skim milk 8oz of juice 64 oz Water daily - I am to take in 44-66g Protein in a day lost 10lbs so far -
girl how many protein grams are you getting a day? What you just listed doesnt seem like enough. Protein helps you feel fuller. Baby bel lights, rotiserrie chicken, greek yogurts. All great sources of protein that should help you feel full. I eat every 3 hours. Small something that is high in protein. 14 months out and average 1000 cal a day but about 75-90 g of protein.

Popcorn is my biggest slider (I can eat a whole bucket if I get one). Also chips/dip, crackers, and Cookies. Ice cream, however, is not for me. I can only eat about 4-6 bites and be good. I think a slider is personal for everyone. Basically it's whatever goes thru easily without filling u up. I think even healthy foods can be sliders (like yogurt)

Healthy living after Band surgery
pink dahlia replied to statebabe40's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
All of the above advice is excellent, the only thing I would add is to keep a few healthy snacks with you at all times. This kept me from eating something I shouldnt be eating even if it was only a few bites. I was not a perfect eater, and still aren't , but having healthy snacks when out Im out is always a good option. Depending on what stage you're at, yogurt, a protein drink, cottage cheese, nuts, raw veggies, fruit slices are some favorites. Good luck !! -
I'd like to know if frozen yogurt is ok?

I'm getting sleeved Tuesday and have a questions about yogurt in a post-op diet. For those without chunks of fruit, I like lemon and lime - are they more acidic (could they cause more trouble than other flavors)?

When Did U Feel 100%
Glassfuser replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, sweetie, me too! I am constantly fighting heartburn and I dread eating. I'm almost a month out ( July 9 surgery). Soup is a lifesaver, but it still hurts. I take Rx omeprezole or Prilosec daily and that really helps me at night. Try some frozen Greek yogurt. Helps with the heat and you get more protein. It's new in the ice cream case at the supermarket. Just know that you're not alone in feeling poopy. I don't visit this site too often, but I came here because I'm feeling the same way. I'm afraid almost of eating and I hate that. I really believe we will feel much better soon! Other things to try...a slug of pepto bismal before you eat or drink, hot drinks in the am, and sorbets or icecream sprinkled with tasteless protein powder. Just watch out for killer yeast infections with eating sugary stuff what with your immune system low. Acidophilus milk should help with that a bit, as I had to remind myself yesterday. We're going to be okay. Right now just kinda stinks. I'm afraid this will last forever, but I'm down to 218 from 248 so it helps. And my brain knows it cant last forever. We can do this! -
2 Weeks Post Op and am still snacking...
Fusilli66 replied to pammyp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a little over 2 weeks out also and I am experiencing what you are experiencing. I have had some trouble getting some foods down, but once they are down my stomach hasn't been sensitive to anything. I haven't had anything with sugar or any sweets but I do find myself snacking on SF puddings and Jello and yogurt. I also am not really following the guidelines set by my doctor and I know that is wrong. I should be in the pureed foods stage but quite frankly the thought of pureed meat is nauseating to me so instead I eat little bits of meat and chew them really good. But nothing tough. I had 1/2 a meatball for dinner last night and that filled me up. I have also been eating Beans (black & white mixed with chicken broth) for lunch because they are high in Protein. But I don't puree them. I feel like they are soft enough. Soup has been my best friend, especially egg drop from the chinese restaurant. But I get what you mean about hunger. I have been experiencing that also. Although I know it is head hunger, but the littlest amounts of foods satisfy it. So if you have to snack, just stick to sf Snacks, apple sauce, yogurt and you should be ok. -
Quick question
abetterme4.2 replied to Losing weight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good to hear! If you need the Peanut Butter taste, maybe PB2 will hold you over. I love it and added it a couple of days ago and my new tummy loves it and tolerates it well. It's powdered peanut butter, I know it sounds gross, but it really is amazing. Think of 'dehydrated' peanut butter and it comes in a couple of different flavors. It costs around 4 dollars a jar. I add it to Protein shakes, greek yogurt, etc. -

Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, Fluffy and GradyCat! I needed reassurance that it is possible! I'm still on shakes, 2 ounces of ricotta, or 2 ounces of non fat Greek yogurt. Nothin' carby or crappy in my diet, and I plan to keep it that way!! Trying pureed boiled egg for lunch today. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Dairy allergy....how to get protein?
Zoes.Realm replied to Dk370's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Dk370,I am big time struggling with the same thing. But I am about to have yogurt even though I can not have milk, lactaid, fairlife, soy or almond milk. My dietitian for the program tells me to keep try different Protein shakes. She mentioned isopure or take the shakes with Water. Atkins now has a protein water. It has 21 grams per bottle. I wasn't a huge fan of it but my mom loves it. It all depends on the person. Hope this helps some Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App -
Looking for my December 2022 Surgery Twin
SalvoStrike replied to Ashbash88's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also had a bypass surgery a few weeks ago, and it started with soups and protein shakes. I understand your desire to get back to an active life, especially if you were into sports. I'm also looking forward to when I can resume physical activity. As for satisfying and filling meals, I've found that braised vegetables with chicken breast and quinoa can be a tasty and healthy choice. Additionally, fruits, low-fat yogurts, and vegetable omelets are good for variety. The key is to watch portion sizes and follow your doctor's recommendations. -

I know it is kind of weird I'm on liquids for two weeks (which I'm still on) but could have yogurt and sf pudding. Every doctor and nut are different.

Yes my personal favorite is Fage. In the beginning I put stevia in it to sweeten it up. Oh and when you get to the yogurt stage stevia, pumpkin purée, pumpkin pie spice and a bit if vanilla! Yum. Plain Greek yogurt grows on you. In my early days it was hard to stomach unsweetened. But now it's my favorite meal a day Fage plain and frozen blueberries. In fact just not "right" if I don't eat it at least once a day..

craving peanut butter...any body else??
isaviolinist replied to skeetersmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm obsessed with peanut butter. I love ANYTHING with peanut butter. I was having difficulty controlling myself with it, so I've stopped buying it pretty much. However, I do always keep a couple jars of PB2 in the pantry. Its really great for all kinds of things: mixing into shakes/puddings, making peanut sauce for salads or anything really, low cal peanut butter icing, peanut butter sauce for ice cream, peanut butter greek yogurt...Its amazing stuff. And two tablespoons only has 45 calories (as opposed to 180-190 calories in 2 tablespoons of regular PB). Anyways, peanut butter is really good in moderation. At whole foods you can grind your own PB (thus you can take as much or as little as you want, and since youre literally grinding it straight from peanuts, there isn't any sugar or salt or any other additives/chemicals). But look into PB2 - it definitely helps me with my PB craving. -
This pre op diet is killing me
ShrinkingPeach replied to Tracan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the pre-op diet for 2 weeks and yes by a certain point I had to make myself eat and drink. I had to do Protein shakes, sf pudding, light yogurt, Gatorade and Water. Not much variety there and everything was sweet. Maybe try spicing things differently for variety? I couldn't wait to get to the surgery date for it to be over but now I am on a week of 3 Protein Shakes a day and sf popsicles...lol Just keep your eyes on the prize and enjoy the weight you are losing as a by product of the pre-op diet...they are pounds that you are ahead of the game for after surgery. Good luck and hang in there!! -
What's for breakfast?
Busymomof3 replied to tamg26k's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I usually have greek yogurt or cottage cheese. For mid morning break I have some dried cranberries with cashews and almonds. -
Just want to add that for the first 2-3 days, you should be on only clear liquids, then 2-3 days of thicker drinks (soups, protein drinks, et),and soft foods (yogurt and such) for another 2 days before moving on to the real stuff. Sounds like you may have taxed an already inflammed band with too thick of foods too soon.

What's for breakfast?
Healthy_life2 replied to tamg26k's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The pancake recipe above is not my normal Breakfast. It's a hit the craving and get it out of the way for me. I use my own Protein powder. I add as much as I like...I also use sugar free maple syrup My normal is egg whites. Prosciutto (paper thin Italian bacon) and asparagus. or a light and fit Carmel Apple pie geek yogurt. Has little pieces of apple. So good.
