  2. One of mine & DH's favorite restaurants is this little hidden Lebanese place downtown Dallas. Falafel is prepared as Harley Girl mentions w/a funky yogurt sauce. OMG, it's SO good. I can literally eat that and a bucket of hummus w/warm pita bread (pre-band of course:tongue:). I bought a box of powdered falafel - and never could get it the way it's been prepared at our little slice of heaven, I bet they deep fry it. Crunchy on the outside - yums inside... Never thought to try & bake - might be worth a shot..like cookie dough:smile:

    Bypass w/ minor issues

If everything looks good at the hospital.... I would still check with your surgeon. But remember your body is still healing..... It's pulling energy from you to do that. You need to rest and keep yourself hydrated with Water and Protein shakes. Are you taking Vitamins? When my stomach refuse to take anymore Protein Shakes (burnout) my liquid vitamins kept me alive without complications. I'm eating mushy foods now so I put nonflavored Protein powder in my yogurt, hummus and some liquid drinks. Plus everything I eat has protein, fish, Beans, eggs, cheese and so forth. Stay safe. disgusted!

Hi, It's amazing how different our tastes are. But, I think if you mix the nectar correctly, they recommend less than half the Water you used (I use 8 oz) you might like it better. I "overwatered" one time and it was indeed horrible. Correct measurement makes all the difference in the world IMHO. I just reordered a double Nectar sample pack from Vitalady.com as Nectar is the only one I can do mixed with water and I really like their high Protein, no carbs and pretty good taste. Another thing I do is shake it like crazy, in a shaker, of course, with lots of ice. I think the cold helps too. It does foam but I don't mind it. I have to add also, that I have not tried the strawberry Mousse but have had most of the other flavors and liked them all. unjury is another one that I can do easily but many here despise it. I find the unflavored goes great in Soups and I throw the vanilla in yogurt or whatever sweet. The chickes Soup wasn't bad to me either. They have sample packs available. I think Unjury is available on-line only. Good Luck!! Carol

    Need some help...please

I am hoping someone can shed some light and help me. I was banded on 10/6/09. I was 247lbs on my surgery date. I have lost a total of 20lbs since surgery date. That means I am almost 6months out and have lost 20lbs in 6months. My band holds 10cc's. I am up to 7.25 but even still I eat atleast 2 cups of food. That scares me because I am almost at the max and if I max...what do I do then? I am so depressed. I am trying so hard. Since my weight loss has been so slow I figured I would start calorie counting...thinking that was my problem. I have been consuming about 1200-1400 calories a day from food not obtained thru a fast food window. Food Examples: I eat breakfast (bagel thin with 2 eggs and a string cheese). A morning snack 4 wheat thin garlic and parsely crackers with laughing cow cheese and 4-5 small strawberries...lunch a lean cuisine with cucumbers (1/2 cup) with about 5 croutons and 1tbsp of Italian Dressing on it....afternoon snack banana with a Super Whey Protein shot....dinner 6-7 grilled shrimp with cucumber salad (above) and yogurt for dessert. Before surgery I was taking about 3000 steps a day.....I am now walking about 13,000 by the bedtime...I bought a pedometer (a good one :-)....Am I missing something in the middle? I am so lost at this point. Even without more saline you would think I would be losing off pure cutting calories and walking. What gives? I need help...I am crying as I type this because I feel like I am failing, failing myself, my children, my husband. Worst of all my 5yr old son was at the dinner table last night and said...My friends liked you on our field trip, they said you were really nice and you have a big fat belly. He had no clue that it hurt me to the core because he is so little but I went into my room and fell to my knees. God help me.

    surgery in 5 days..scared..help me..

Well u r lucky to only have 5days of liquids. My doc put us on 3 weeks of liquids and some minor food like oatmeal, yogurt, chicken, fish and salad. So this will be very difficult for me. But its a means to and end.

    Favorite Breakfast Foods

I do yogurt or eggs a lot, but those don't have all the Protein you want. You could always eat the non traditional Breakfast foods like fish, chicken, etc Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Being on solid foods for 3 weeks tracks relatively closely to what my plan will be. My hospital only does a 2 day pre-op liquid diet, and then you are on liquid/soft dairy (yogurt, pudding) for about 10 days. They generally do the surgeries on a Monday and you go to a class the following Thursday, although I will have mine on a Wednesday, and I think I will still go to the Thursday class, so it's only just over a week for me. After the class, we're advanced to stage 4 for about 4 weeks, which includes soft/moist meats like chicken thigh, fish, and eggs, along with soft cooked veg and fruits. The only thing that doesn't match up with my plan is the cucumbers because raw veg isn't allowed until stage 5, which is at roughly 6 weeks post-op. But frankly, cucumber is almost all water once you chew it, so the volume is minimal despite looking large. My program doesn't bother with purees. We're just told to chew thoroughly. As others have said, you may not feel full this early because of nerves not being fully healed, so just watch your portions. If you've lost 25lbs in 4 weeks, I hardly would call that doomed! I would double check with your nutritionist about portions, make sure you chew thoroughly, and keep making healthy food choices like you're doing. You may just not have as much swelling as some do, which would explain the ability to eat closer to a normal post-surgery capacity right away. Just because you can eat a couple of eggs doesn't mean you'll soon be able to eat a 24oz steak and sides!

    So Freaking Nauseated

Thanks.....that make sense. I just don't see how yogurt is considered a part of the liquid diet but I did better on that.

    I Am Not Understanding....

I would not worry too much about the carb thing right now. Just eat what you can, protein mostly like soups, broths, yogurt, jello sf, pudding sf, cottage cheese. These are all good foods. Like MegInNola stated. Do the best you can and try not to stress tooooo much....

    I Am Not Understanding....

Precious, everybody's sleeve is different. I never counted anything (and still don't), mostly because I have to eat what my sleeve will allow--and, for good or ill, it doesn't let me eat foods that aren't good for me (can't tolerate fried foods, most flour products, sweets). However, it also doesn't let me eat good-for-me foods like chicken, eggs, tuna, etc., so it's a trade off. Since you're having such a difficult time trying to do the "standard" things, why not try something else? Maybe aim to get some Protein through vegetable sources--get some bean Soup and zap it in the blender and heat that up and eat it. Split pea with ham. Vegetarian chili that has TVP (textured vegetable protein) instead of meat--zap them up so they're smooth and try those. My point is, low-carbing will work for a good number of folks, but not everyone. If your sleeve won't tolerate a lot of the typical protein foods (tuna, chicken, whatever), you obviously can't eat those, and a lot of very healthy, non-animal-protein-based foods are going to come with some carbs. Since you can't keep a lot of solid stuff down yet, I say don't worry about your carbs too much and just try to find a set of foods you can eat that are tolerable. I lived for the first few months on yogurt, spoons of Peanut Butter, cottage cheese, and soup--literally ate soup every day. You'll be glad later that your sleeve is picky--right now, it STINKS, but as you heal and progress, you'll be happy to have that picky thing that keeps you from eating what you shouldn't. Hang in there, my friend!!
  12. Wow, you are totally stressing on this! you are not necessarily going to have nausea or that great level of pain after the surgery. The doc will assess and send you home with the necessary meds to assist with any after affects. Just relax, take a deep breath and it will happen and be over with. Take 1 step at a time. I get grossed out with eating pureed food so I didn't. I at a lot of soft foods like yogurt, sf puddings, etc. After the surgery the stomach is so swollen we can't eat that much anyways. Just a couple of bites at the most. Your surgeon's office will give you the stages of food and what you can eat, and what you can't eat. it will be fine. CONGRATS on your decision to join our club.

    Way To Sweet?

I had a full container of greek yogurt for the first time last week. I had tasted it before, but it was way too sour for me. Then I read on a forum about adding artificial sweetner so I decided to give that a try. I used a packet of Equal.......way tooooo sweet! I broke out into a sweat altho I was sitting in front of my fan! The next time I ate yogurt, I used Splenda...added a lil at a time (turned out to be the whole pkt) but I had no after effects. Now I am eating yogurt as my "in-between meals" snack. Sorry you had problems. Also read somewhere how our tastebuds change after surgery and for some people, anything sweet can taste 10x sweeter for us sleevers. Maybe that is what you are experiencing? Best of luck to ya!
  14. I had some frozen greek yogurt..I guess it was too sweet...although when I was eating it, I was fine. About 10 minutes later I was nauseous(had to have that extra bite) but I also had this "someone just poured 10lbs of sugar down my throat"..taste in the back of my throat..I get this occasionally from certain foods..anyone else get this?

    7 Days Pre-OP

I was banded 3/25/08, and put on liquid diet for 2 weeks prior (ended up being 3 weeks as I caught a cold and my surgery was postponed a week, not enough time to stop and start again, so I stayed on it another week). Up until 4 days before surgery I could have a small amount of lean protein, which I saved for the evening when I tended to overeat the most. I had either 2 hard cooked eggs with salt/pepper, or 2 unbreaded chicen tenders grilled with salt/pepper. For liquids I could have broth, clear or cream soups, protein drinks, fat/sugar free popsicles, fat/sugar free jello, yogurt, water, tea, coffee. I knew I would be hungry during the day, but my job is busy so I was able to ignore it. I found I do boring really well. Don't have to think too much about what is for dinner, just keep the freezer full of popsicles and the cabinet full of soups and broths. I even found a way to have cheese. If you heat tomato soup, and break up a couple slices of Kraft Fat Free cheese, it melts and you have cheesy tomato soup, a liquid. It really jump started my diet. I increased my exercise with walking and by surgery had lost 35 pounds. The rest has come of since then. Good luck with your surgery.:behindsofa:
  16. Thank you both for your reply I often feel that feeling when I'm eating my Greek yogurt and I'm fine with that but other times I struggle like say with eating some meat if I take too big of a bite or eat to fast then I feel an uncomfortable feeling that I think doesn't feel right. And I'm like is this full? But I understand now the right signals I appreciate your response! Thank you both
  17. I just ate a whole cup if Greek yogurt..and looked on the side and realized that's 5.3 oz! Can you guys eat a whole one?

    Liquid diet time

I'm starting my 14-day pre-op liquid diet that consists of 2 cans of slim fast protein, low carb shake, sugar free carnation instant breakfast with 1 cup skim milk, cup cottage cheese, 1 cup dannon light and fit yogurt, 15 oz can vegetarian vegetable soup, quaker oatmeal weight control oatmeal, 3 servings of fruit (1/2 cup each serving), and 48-64 ounces of water or sugar free drinks, no caffeine, no carbonation. I have to have all this every day for 2 weeks. Is anyone doing the same diet or something like this? I know every surgeon and weight loss center is different. Any tips and advice? Thanks!!!

    Unflavored protein?

I use the isopure. I emailed the company to verify that heating it would not denature the protein. I use it in pretty much everything. I add it to tea, I really like adding it to soup or vegetable broth. I mix it with yogurt, and I've even mixed it with egg salad & my scrambled eggs prior to cooking. It's a nice protein boost. It was really helpful in the early full liquids stage it was especially helpful. Instead of drinking 3 shakes a day, I did 2 shakes and then in the even I would have veg broth with unflavored protein powder added. It was a nice break from all the sweet of the shakes. Nowadays if I have a day where I may be running around I put a scoop in a small container in my bag. Then I can grab any beverage along the way and add it to make sure I'm getting in my protein.

    no more dairy...ugh! Breakfast?

You can also fry a week's worth of eggs in advance and keep them in the refrigerator. Warm them in the microwave along with a slice of Canadian bacon or pre-cooked bacon and a bit of cheese in the time it takes to toast an English muffin. Then assemble and eat in the car. (Sorry for being unresponsive to your actual question. I don't use yogurt of any kind, including plant-based.)

    no more dairy...ugh! Breakfast?

Can't help on the yogurt, but one of my favorite grab-and-go breakfasts is hard-boiled eggs.
