    Before and After Pics

I think the biggest thing I've gained in all this is that I don't HAVE to live in large t-shirts and oversized hoodies alllll the time. I can actually buy more feminine clothes and actually feel good about myself. Granted the black shirt is loose fitting it's also a size L. The grey shirt is an XXL and the light blue hoodie is an XL. The jeans in the newest picture is also 2 sizes down from the 2018 picture and 4 sizes down from the oldest picture.

    4 months out and stuck

You are getting close to a healthy BMI, at this point in time you need to be particular about calorie intake...you may well be eating at maintenance. Your volume of food doesn't appear to be a lot but some of the foods are calorie dense: almonds, cheese and possibly salmon (its an oily fish plus more calories if skin still there). If dried cranberries they are about 300 calories per 100gms. Download a calorie counting app, track all your foods and any drinks with calories, measure and weigh everything - don't rely on eyeing it or using 1/2 cup or 1 cup volumes etc. Track yourself honestly, every single thing, for one or two weeks. It will give you a baseline of your current calories. From what I can gather some people are consuming anywhere between 600 to 1000 calories at the five to six month mark, some will be at the higher mark (or consume more) if they are exercising a lot or have significantly more weight to lose. Once you know your current calorie baseline you can tweak from there. A little time spent on yourself will very likely reward you with further fat loss!

    No one has noticed ...

Here is a tip, it is time to start wearing form fitting clothing. This was very hard for me as I had always worn loose clothes to hide (I thought) the excess pounds and jiggles. Now I can wear a medium and only jiggle where you want to! Roflmao We all will amaze ourselves daily!

    Best thing for scars?

BioOil is amazing as well, I like the way it makes my skin feel and the hydration it provides.

    OOTD

What a wonderful getaway and respite! Thank you so much for sharing... Nature and all it's wonder have a way of reminding us all - This too shall pass. We went to a nursery yesterday (I'll share in next post) for plants and a white hibiscus tree to add to our midnight garden. Love your new outfit and great nails. Running around in my sneaks + casuals, too. No occasion or need to dress up. You're continuing loosing, too? Is that your desire? I'm not wanting to drop any more weight at 120. The teens just seem too drastic. Feeling those hip bones as well. Surreal, right!? Since January lost 3 additional pounds - eight total with the excess skin removal. I desire to stabilize now in my weight, clothing and wardrobe. It's exciting and exhausting all at the same time. Crave stability now. Keep well.

    Best thing for scars?

The only thing I used on my scars was BioOil. I wasn't concerned with scars. I figured they would pale in comparison with my stretch marks, but I did want the skin as supple as possible and BioOil does that for me. I still use it...All Over! But, if you ARE concerned with scars, I occasionally work with burn patients and we recommend silicone sheets or strips for their burns. Here's a link on Amazon, but any brand will do: Aroamas Professional Silicone Scar Sheets
  9. I had a mini gastric bypass on Monday 16th March. Had a rough recovery in hospital after the biggest of my port wounds bled Tuesday night. My surgeon cleaned the blood that pooled under the skin and replaced my staples. I'm horribly bruised and swollen. I'm still struggling to lie down, get comfy or sleep and ny clips are itchy as hell. My question is, how normal is it to want to cry your eyes out after? It's not a pain thing. I am sore and uncomfortable but the crying comes on suddenly and is uncontrollable sometimes. It's been every day since i got home Thursday. I get that I've been through a traumatic experience but anyone else find themselves crying like a baby for no reason?

    Fat malabsorption

I would ask if they feel like this could be temporary and that at 2-3 years out from surgery will your body naturally increase fat and thus Vit D absorption. I know that doesn't help now but at least maybe you only need to fix the issue in the short term. I would assume there's a max you can absorb from the sun. You probably wouldn't want to start using a tanning bed since you already have a lot of sun exposure. Can you research if Vit D can be injected or a compound pharmacy mix it into a cream you apply to absorb it through the skin? I have no idea if that's possible. Does Vit D absorb better if it is mixed with another vitamin? This is the only thing I came across. Vitamin D comes in two forms: D2 and D3. D2, also called ergocalciferol, comes from plants. D3, also called cholecalciferol, comes from animals. You need a prescription to get D2. D3, however, is available over the counter. It is more easily absorbed than D2 and lasts longer in the body dose-for-dose. Work with your doctor to find out if you need to take a vitamin supplement and how much to take if it is needed.

    Fat malabsorption

My vit D has been in tablet form that I dissolve in my mouth before swallowing. The 50,000 units I take now are the little dark green capsules. My dietician is not very helpful. I'm working more with my PCP. I asked the pharmacist and she said to take it with food and oil, which I have always done. I am outside all the time - I garden, tend to livestock, hike, and bike. I do not use sunscreen except on my face. The D levels were a bit low before surgery, which is common in obesity. But afterward, they have continued to drop. Level last week was a whopping 15.1. YIKES! I thought for sure, after losing all the weight, my D would be good, but the malabsorption from the surgery has really taken it down. I've had steatorrhea ever since surgery - stools are loose, frequent (up to 10 times a day), urgent, light colored, gassy, and floatie, so it is pretty clear that I am not absorbing fat. I am going to ask about pancreatic enzymes. My PTH is fine, calcium levels are within normal limits, although toward the low end.
  12. Eight weeks post op Very thankful to have the physical stamina and healthier lifestyle now in place to face these unprecedented times. It almost seems trite to talk about myself or my plastics in this current climate our nation now faces. I am beginning to experiment with foundations weaning away from the compression garments. Purchasing fitted clothing has become a rewarding and most satisfying experience after plastics. My favorite aspect is the new 28" waistline that works perfectly with an array of new belts. I have lost a total of eight pounds since January 21 surgery date - five were excess skin removal. Now on lock down and home bound mode - I have the time to explore new recipes and cook books. The chia pudding recipes are especially delicious and highly nutritious, as well as permissible comfort food. Also, have been enjoying PBS Masterpiece Theatre - Vienna Blood. An excellent mystery production and worthy diversion.

    April 2020

So far my April 23rd date is holding, however for how long I think the inevitable is coming. I am beginning to loose hope that I will get a call next week about a reschedule. I am self-pay and opted to pre-pay everything now and not wait till a week before. Doing so I was told may provide some scheduling "favor" and put me near the top when the schedule is re-created.I'm thinking that's not going to happen either.

    What age was yours?

Do you want to spend the rest of your life getting bigger? Wait until you are 50 BMI (with probably more co-morbidities) to qualify? I think most people will say the earlier you do it, the better. You are young so don't wait for 20 years letting things pass you by that you couldn't do because of your weight. Get the surgery. Compared to all other weight loss methods, cutting out part of your stomach will "reset" your body - metabolism gets boosted, most people with diabetes no longer have it within weeks (sometimes days) of having the surgery, and for many women, the PCOS issue also gets resolved. There are a lot of medical journal articles about this, easily found on the internet - and I imagine, since you are at nursing school, you probably have even more resources to access that support these claims. Another benefit to your youth is that your skin is still pretty elastic and will probably bounce back a lot better than those of us who are older and are already dealing with sagging skin, not just because of the weight. If you haven't already seen her videos, Clusie L has a ton of great videos explaining her process of getting through gastric sleeve surgery, food, plastic surgery, etc. I know she has multiple videos explaining why she got it and her struggles trying to get her family on board while she was still a teenager, but I can't find it at the moment. However, this video is a good substitute, geared towards teens, but maybe it will help you in making a decision. Edit: my first surgery (sleeve) was done at 42, I just had a revision (45). I wish I had done this 10 years ago when my weight really started ballooning up beyond Obese (class 1) into 2, then 3, then beyond.

    December’s 2019 Sleevers!!!

I've been doing well. I am down 39lbs from surgery on 12/16. I'm down 59lbs total since July 2019 when I start on the journey. I know I'm a slow loser and some days that is a struggle. My clothes fit loose on me and I know I need to go shopping for a smaller size but with everything going on that's not going to happen soon.

    I’m hungry 😞

I’m 16 days out and on the soft foods, purée phase. Once you are off full liquids and can start consuming more substantial food the hunger will ease. I was very discouraged at first with the hunger pains and yes. It is a mind game for sure! Keep following your dr instructions and listen to your body. I have been hungry or so I thought a couple of times on the soft foods phase but when I began eating, I fill up sooner than I thought I would. You’ll figure it out day by day. oh and yes, the incisions do get itchy. I e always heard that means your skin and wounds are healing so that’s a good thing. 😊

Im scared of gaining weight through this crisis

Seen this topic and had to chime in. I have been a religious GYM RAT for years now since being Post Op and to not be able to go to the gym is KILLING ME! The mental game is the worst part of it. I am still getting outside for walks and runs as weather permits but it is not the same. The fear of gaining and loosing the momentum I previous had is scary. As far as the virus goes I feel we all have our opinions on the issue. But stay safe and SMART everyone. And remember even though you may not worry for yourself think of others during this time. On a more positive note, I have noticed ALOT of families going out for walks and biking. Runners are out like crazy and even elderly couples have been out and about walking. Hope the positive changes this horrible time in our World stick around and we learn to cherish each other more.

    Just not right!

How to Vortex them First things you have to get a Vortex https://www.amazon.com/LUTANI-BBQ-Kettle-Grills-26-75/dp/B07BP7JFWK/ref=sr_1_4?crid=GUJUNI9LG6TT&keywords=vortex+grill+accessory&qid=1584617398&sprefix=Vortex+grill%2Caps%2C166&sr=8-4 Step one We prefer only wings but get you chicken wings and legs. RInse off and put in bucket, Now the key to this is the brine. To brine use 1/3 cup of salt, 1/3 cup of red hot. Use chicken stock or base. I prefer the chicken base paste. Also on amazon. Add water to cover wings and refrigerate for 12 hours. I do this before i go to bed then they are ready the next day. Step two Remove wings and lightly rinse. Put in zip lock bag - Add wing sauce, butter and pepper and shake it all up. Store for 3 hours or more flipping bag every so often. Step three. Get your grill rocking with the vortex in the middle. The ones i did yesterday the vortex had the grill at 600 degrees Hot as Hell in there. I found it easier to remove the grate and arrange them around the outside off the grill. We wanted a little smoke flavor so i added a chunk of apple wood to the middle of the grate. Put grate back on grill. Close lid. You have to keep the lid closed the heat is going to roll around convection style with the vortex in the middle of the grill. Took about 30 minutes and I did rotate them at 15 min. Skin was perfect, moist from the brine, and perfect taste. On the side we did have a variety of hot sauces, Ranch and blue cheese - Not a wing in site 15 minutes later

    Gastric Sleeve Post Op

It amazes me how many people I know say the same thing when I mention WLS. All these people that express the WLS is a scam "opinion" also have NEVER had to deal with a weight issue, I take their opinions with a grain of salt of course. Loosing weight is so easy I am told by the misinformed and obnoxious, just eat less and move more! WOW if loosing weight is so easy, so simple I ask in return, then why is obesity considered a growing health issue? I usually get no coherent response...
  20. For starters take a look at this real classy selfie showing off my 3 week old incisions. They look fine. Skin not so much. Bleh.
  21. It’s mooooondaaaaaaaay. I’m still trying to work out this sleeve life. I’ve realised I have a habit of snacking while making a meal. This is problematic as I end up completely full from a quarter of the snack. Also I eat the snack super fast. This is problematic as it makes me feel like food is queuing in my throat. Subconscious habits are really quite something! @biginjapan I can’t wait til 3 months is past and we can hear stories of people marvelling at your hard work!! I had a coffee the other day and was buzzzzing all day. Hahaha was quite fun. I’m not much of a drinker but I imagine after we hit goal (because we WILL) and have a champagne or so that it will be equally as impactful. Hahahah @cammy are u feeling better after the weekend? Purée foods hopefully will help. @krimson are you doing better with water? It’ll help the poop situation a whole heap. Did you try purées? I live on purées salmon and cottage cheese and protein shakes at the moment. Haha. @maine i find it interesting about the appetite thing. Yesterday I thought that I was hungry and then I looked at my watch and it was lunch time. I can’t work out if it was my brain or if I’m just very subtly empty of food. No other news from me really. I have got to stop weighing myself as yesterday u hadn’t lost anything and was feeling stupidly down about it and made a bad food choice which I had to have words to myself about. I did this surgery to succeed and so am going to limit my weigh ins. The other thing that worries me a little is that my big scar (of the 5) is a little bit raised and ugly looking. Am hoping that it’s not a keloid scar and have ordered some silicon bandaid thingys to help. The other thing I’ve started doing is smothering myself in body oil to try and eventually help the loose skin inevitability. I figured it can’t help. I also read that dry brushing helps stimulate collagen so I bought some dry brushes but haven’t used them. Haha. One thing at a time I guess. Sending the best success vibes to you all Xx

    Surgery in 2 weeks. Nervous.

I should add that I've been working with pre-op groups for the past three years. One of their biggest fears is the loose skin. It was mine as well, when I was a pre-op and early post-op. But I can tell you that once the vast majority of us have dropped a ton of weight after surgery, we wonder why we spent so much time and energy worrying about it. Losing all that weight FAR overrides the loose skin. I would take loose skin ANY DAY over weighing 373 lbs again. ANY FREAKING DAY!!!

    Surgery in 2 weeks. Nervous.

The decision you’re making to change your life is amazing! Moving forward through the fear is courageous. It’s good you’re not taking this lightly as it is major surgery. I believe your youth as PuddinJasper mentioned above is one of the great things you have going for you. i wish you best of luck. As far as loose skin, that’s a concern for many of us. It’s something to think of for sure, but becoming heathy is more important for me right now. Good luck!

    Surgery in 2 weeks. Nervous.

so would your rather have loose skin or weigh 500 lbs? I know what my choice would be - hands down.
  25. PuddinJasper

    Surgery in 2 weeks. Nervous.

I agree with AJ. Keep your eye on the prize! At 23...you have youth on your side. Co centrate on getting through the surgery...making the changes necessary to get to your 250 pound goal! Loose skin with major weight loss is inevitable...don't let that be your deciding factor. You've come too far to stop now! Good luck to you and I can't wait to hear about your progress![emoji3059] It's MY time!
