86% will regain the weight they lost after WLS
gomekast replied to Dreamin Again's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My dietician told me last time I saw her that having wls isn't just about losing the initial weight during the beginning honeymoon phase. She said that the body continues to change every 3 or so months...and it does this as far out as 3 years post op. She said that a lot of people will initially lose more than their body wants, naturally causing the body to regain to it's set point. What she said really put things into perspective for me..knowing now that I need to be vigilant for years to come helps me in so many ways. I fought to get this far, and each pound and each NSV is worth the years of diligence it will take to keep it all off. I'm grateful for the warning. Everything is all about choice. We have amazing tools in our bodies yes, but we still need to make the choice with each bite we take. No one can make the healthy choices for us. I really think that regain is just a normal part of the entire process. That said...the process, I believe doesn't end when we reach goal. It really it just beginning at that point...again, this part is just my own belief. -
Okay, I want a 2 piece swimsuit - I guess a bucket list item. I tried on lots of them but didn't do too well in the womens department. They have string bikinis and they have "matronly". The more modest ones didn't come in my size - I have a size 4 butt and modest bottoms in my local stores tended to start about size 10. Some of the prettier ones (that were not string bikinis) were too big OR were ridiculously expensive... I don't think I should pay $150 for a two piece swimsuit! So, i wound up getting one out of the junior section. I bought Jr med bottoms and XL junior top and it fits, good price at 50% off sale. Not a string bikini, but not a matronly skirt type deal either. Anyway it continues to blow my mind that I fit in the juniors section. I remember going swimsuit shopping previously and had trouble finding suits big enough... I still feel kinda strange wearing a two piece but since I plan to wear a coverup most of the time, it will be fine. My new boyfriend has a boat so I will feel comfortable wearing it when it is just he and I or when I go in the Water. I guess this is a NSV - I look somewhat reasonable in a bathing suit these days!

2 fills and I think I can still eat too much
Bandista replied to Deb 57's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When the scale isn't moving that's when I often notice my clothing getting looser and I realize I am losing inches. This is a good time to look for NSVS, non-scale victories, and just to keep doing what you're doing. Fills differ so much -- I had six prior to achieving the green zone but I was glad for the small incremental approach my surgeon uses as it gave me time to work on slowing down, chewing more and general behavior modification. My surgeon was looking for a tennis-ball sized portion and not hungry again for 4-5 hours. I had the portion part but not the duration -- I was hungry again after a couple of hours. So we kept going. I am not super tight but just right -- can still enjoy dense protein, apples, broccoli, etc. You are doing beautifully -- on your way! It just takes some time. -
Oops, I meant wonderful NSV today....finally fit into the booth at the diner without feeling squished, lol

I am not one to post regularly but just had to share my weekend NSV with folks who may understand my excitement. I had tickets to a baseball game with my husband and in-laws. I went shopping and was able to buy a women's cut team tee for the first time and did not have to wear the men's shirts like before. Then I could actually walk through the turnstile without turning sideways, but by far the best part... I fit in the seats, I was able to cross my legs and did not leave with bruises on my hips from squeezing into my seat like in years gone by! I am loving the new me.. My Consult weight 343, Surgery weight 305, current weight 256..surgery was 2/26!

I got my sleeve on March 4th and have lost 59 lbs since. My journey has been good so far. My hair loss has kicked in but I've been expecting that. There have been no complications so I can't complain. NSVs lately has been going to my hometown for a wedding last week and be described as "skinny" "tiny" and "small". I've never been described this way before. I'm happier and would do this over again in a heartbeat.

I decided last night to start my list of clothing to take on my cruise next month and when I was done, it was pretty long. I looked at it again but thought I would use most everything on it and didn't know what to remove. So I decided to see what would fit and what wouldn't in my suitcase. Well guess what? Everything fit. At first I couldn't figure out why because I recall clearly in years past that packing was often a challenge in terms of being able to fit everything and then it hit me... Everything fit because my clothes are so much smaller now. I've been aware of this on some level for a while now especially when I put my bathing suit into the spin dryer at the Y. It used to be so difficult to get the suit in there without some of it getting caught and maybe tearing. These days, I can fit two of my suits in that little space because there's so much more room now. So...as I sat there looking at my full, but easily closed suitcase, I decided I'm going to bring everything and I'll wear it all....even if I have to change outfits two or three times in a day to do it...

Frustrated (((rant)))
RJ'S/beginning replied to Pretty_In_Purple's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a great idea! It has not been a huge day to day problem in my house, but there are days that I just want "something" and this might help. I do hear what everyone is saying. I can only imagine how hard it is to hear that stuff all the time. The only one that tells me that stuff is me! My sister had bypass at least 17 years ago and has gained all of the weight plus more back. I have not even told her or others in my family because I don't want the judgment (my mom, husband, and select friends know). I had a lot of hesitation is this because of what my sister did. I am not her and she is NOT me! You are right! You are not your sister. First thing first is that you admit you are a food addict. Second you fix your brain. Learn why you are a food addict and what brought you to this decision. Then look for the triggers that cause you to eat the wrong things. It is all about retraining your thinking about food. Learning that it is nourishment for your body nothing more. Finding other things to replace that dependency with other positive things. Log the NSV and say something nice about yourself every day. And look forward to a happier healthier you. you deserve it. Take this miracle and run with it to see the girl you really are inside without hiding behind weight...It is not easy but the rewards are endless....... -
Great NSV, and congrats to the smaller you!

Awesome NSV tonight.... Went to a Detroit Tigers game. I was walking ahead of our pack, or with the pack, and did not struggle in the least to keep up. Zipped up and down the stairs. Walked up steps in parking deck without feeling like I couldn't breathe. Wearing jeans that are now too big that I hadn't worn since 2008 - friends noticing how loose they were. And of course, sitting in stadium seat comfortably. Awesome night!

Some times the best NSV's are those that are unexpected.

One Year Out Today!

Congrats on your great progress! Keep up the good work. Congrats also on all the other nsv you have seen. -
I was feeling pretty down the past week or so. The scale isn't moving, Protein and Water not where they need to be, and still feeling pretty wiped out. I finally decided to go into my closet and try on a few pair of pants I bought but never fit into. And much to my surprise....they fit with no problem!! 2 sizes smaller too! :-) Then I decided to step on the scale and it finally moved! Only a pound but none the less....it moved! I think I am finally realizing that the weight will come off at its own pace and that I have to throw my expectations of how much I should be losing out the window! This is not a sprint!!! It is going to be a lifelong journey. It really doesn't matter how long it takes does it? Slow and steady will win my race. I am ready to embrace this thinking!

Hate shorts. No nix that. I love my new size 14 shorts. My legs have lost weight too and the fat hanging around my knees is looking so much better. And the don't cause muffin top. I'm actually fitting all of me in a 14. Here I was getting used to my 16s.
