    Adelaide - Councelling & Support

I suggest calling 211 in your area and seeing if they can help you find therapy assitance... You might try your local college or university if you have one counseling center or program bc many have clincs for low cost ot sliding scale therapy Hope this helps

    Eye opener

I'm not sure how to respond to this bc I've been sick mist if my life then I got fat related stuff too...used a wheelchair for two years got myself out if it. I'm in Chronic pain and I'm youngish lol. Can't say fat did most of what's wrong with me now but it surely don't help...
  3. Hi, I am in the process of getting approved for the sleeve, my surgeons and my primary care MD want me to be on some form of BC after surgery in order to lose the weight. They are concerned that once I begin to take a large amount of weight off my fertility will kick in. This would be great since we tried for two years with no luck getting pregnant, all the fertility meds just made me gain weight. The overall goal is for me to lose the weight in the post op period and then go back to trying once I am at my goal weight. So I have to find some form of birth control prior to surgery. Right now my husband and I are just using the calendar method, but I am afraid this will not be enough once I have surgery. So my options are either the nuvaring or the IUD. I am a bit concerned about the IUD since I don't have any children and the side effects from the IUD. Has anyone here used the nuvaring? or the IUD? and would be willing to share your thoughts with me? Thank you so much!

    BEST protien shake option

I like premier and my weight clinic has it as a top preference especially for diabetes like me but the nurse told me it often is to sweet tasting after surgery to some so she told me I should get unflavored whey isolate but I haven't done that yet. While I like premier, I'm quickly disliking it day in and day out on the pre. Op. I don't understand why @@LisaMergs nut says it's forbidden thought bc the stats on it are quite stellar 1 gram sugar, 5 Gran's carb 24 cuts and minerals, 30 grams in protein etc..if that's all factual...wow!!! So I'm curious as to what the problem is.
  5. I can COMPLETELY relate @TJ1257 This has been consuming my thoughts the past two weeks. I am like you, my BMI is 38. I do have diagnosed sleep apnea but it's not bad enough for my insurance AL BC/BS to cover it. I also have horrible cholesterol levels (I'm on meds for that) and osteoarthritis (under the care of a rheumatologist). My insurance will STILL not cover it. I guess I gotta gain weight to get this surgery covered. I am seriously considering self-pay...but wow it would be so much better if insurance would cover it.
  6. Update...called fed bcbs and no answer on approval yet. It has only by 1 week . Surgeons office said normally takes a week to week and a half. Bcbs pre cert. Spokesman told me normally 15 days so they can review so I probably won't hear anything till the 27th of October. ????????????my surgery date is November 3rd. I know a couple of you said you got your approval right before your surgery date and others got theirs in a week. Wondering why some are approved quicker than others. Again my bmi is over 40 (42 to be EXACT ) I have sleep apnea, arthritis, rls, all pre-certification was complete. Ugh, trying to remain positive and calm but freaking out on the inside Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App

  8. @butchluce, you are killing it! Great job! I'm -30 lbs at one month post-op, which I'm happy about. My schedule is still nutty until Thanksgiving, so I can only fit in 10,000 steps maybe 1-3x a week, but the days I do it, I lose at least 1 lb within the next two days. Have you had the infamous energy surge I hear about and want? LOL. I feel normal, but no surge. Don't get me wrong, I definitely have a spring in my step and feel lighter all around, and getting up off of the floor/chairs/couches is easier, but I'm still crashing and burning at my usual early hour. I haven't used my CPAP at all since that first attempt. My husband says the snoring is definitely less. But, I'm not waking at all in the middle of the night like before if I didn't use the CPAP. I used to be awake 2-4x a night and need a Tylenol PM to get back to sleep. Now, I crash and stay asleep all night (unless my son wakes me to use the potty.) How's your sleeping and energy? I feel like I never had surgery almost. I do have restriction and have had what I expect was dumping only once last week this whole time. I was really hungry -- went too long between meals -- and ate a double portion (1 cup versus 1/2 cup) and then had to lay down in bed the rest of the night with sweats. I didn't vomit, but if I could have and gotten relief, I would have. Totally wiped me out. Definitely need to keep fed/watered every 2 hours over here to maintain energy. How's your experience?
  9. I definitely miss my boobs and butt. That thing used to be cornbread fed and now it's flat and sad. I keep teasing my husband about buying some booty pops ( underwear with butt pads to make you look like Nikki Minaj) at the beauty supply store. I'm still paying off my surgery, but as soon that's done, I'm buying some new boobs! As weird as it sounds, I miss the bravado my large body gave me. Weighing in the same as most heavyweight boxers gave me a certain confidence in the ability to defend myself. I thought nothing of walking to my car after last call and would joke that I could hold my own against any man. At 5'2" and 147, I'm now pretty petite and would more than likely get my a$& handed to me in a fight.... Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App

    Period question ?

im on the total opposite end. I had my last period 9/17-21/16. Had surgery on 10/5/16. I was on birth control and my last pack finished 2 weeks before my surgery date. I was expecting another period a few days ago and it hasnt shown its head yet. Im not really surprised, mainly because i was on birth control not only for contraception but to regulate my periods. Without it i dont get one for months at a time. I might have 1 to 2 a year if im lucky. I keep feeling like it might happen but then im let down lol. Its annoying. I like knowing what to expect so not knowing if im going to get my period any time soon is nerve wracking. But ive never been under 200lbs as an adult. I figure i'll give it a bit before i get back on any form of birth control. i heard after wls its not as affective for contraception so i may ask my gyn about the IUD. Anyone else goes not get a period without BC? I feel like a special unicorn lol. PS. I always felt like the irregularity was due to being so heavy. Ive been overweight my entire life so im kind of curious to see how much weight i have to lose to have a regular period and if thats even possible for me. It'd be nice.
  11. I know with my job the lifting restriction is the real problem. I am planning to take 4 weeks but would like to go back after 2 if possible. It is easier for me though bc I am a lowly prn employee Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    October sleevers?

@@paramedic thanks for the tip! Do you put the protein powder in before or after microwaving? I haven't put protein in it bc I heard it gets weird when it's heated up. I did get some plain kefir and put some of that in instead of milk with a touch of cinnamon and honey and it was slamming (lol never thought I would put cream of wheat and slamming in the same sentence [emoji16]) I figured the kefir would bump up the protein a little more.

    Falling off the wagon

What works for me when I find myself going off the rails is not the pouch test, but the meat and green veggies test. 3 - 5 days of nothing but lean, unprocessed meat -- no deli meat, no sausage, no bacon, no jerky -- no sauce, nothing breaded and green veggies -- okay to use herbs and spices and a modest amount of healthy fat -- olive oil or grass-fed butter. Nothing else -- but I allow myself unlimited quantities and eat whenever I want to. This reeducates me on what hunger really is and what my capacity is. It also stops the cravings for sweets and carbs after about the first two days. It is very hard to eat only lean meat and green veggies and not lose weight. After five days of this, I go back to logging all my food and tracking it on myfitnesspal.

    Support and Inspiration

I've been pretty open despite so many ppl telling me about others who had it and gained all their weight back grrr and related negative stories. It's like really. Do you think that was the thing to share with me?? Lol I figure I rather be open bc they will see me eating different and loosing lots of weight and will ask questions so why not just tell them now but that's me idk. I also hope it will help others to change their lives too
  16. Hello this is me... The one always hiding behind someone in pictures. The one always taking pictures but not wanting to be in the frame. The one not liking the reflection in the mirror. The one with high blood pressure, sleep apnea, pre diabetes , TMJ and living in constant pain. Always up in weight and rarely down. I've tried it all, HCG, phentermine, topamax, Belviq, Jenny, Seattle, Medifast,WW just to name a few, nothing worked for long. This new normal of yo-yo dieting weight loss then more gain was not normal to me. So,I'm taking my life back in 3 days. I Will be in the pictures and no longer afraid of how it turns out. I will be healthy, and not live in pain. I'm nervous and I'm afraid, but I can't continue to live this way. I'm choosing to self pay, because my Bmi is not enough to get approved by insurance in the US. As I embark on this journey, I will update with pictures and how Things are progressing. BEST protien shake option

If you read the I ingredients there is whey there too.. I love the Premier.. But I also use the Syntrax nectar & Matrix.. The Nectar is what my wls keeps in the office to for patients to buy.. They have lots of good flavors.. Munky I could be wrong but my understanding from my nutritionist is that tge whey isolate part only applies to buying a Protein Powder bc it basically means it's Fluid soluble

    I miss water

Can you ask for anti nausea meds? I say this only bc being thirsty is a sign of dehydration and that's really bad post surgery for si much so I'm concerned your not getting enough fluids unless you're tollerating popsicles and SF drink replacements for now I've heard some ppl find Water very nauseating and say it's better super cold or slightly infused perhaps?? It's also likely this will be temporary...

    BABY ASPRIN!

I'm about to get v sleeved and I got a medic alert card from my bariatric clinic stating that I'm not to have any aspirin or nsaids bc they can cause stomach damage to the small sleeve so definitely ask your surgical people
  21. As a RN, countless patients experience this from stress as others have mentioned. We don't mind, I feel bad for the patients who have another thing to deal with, I usually joke that at least the pain meds can help with the period cramps too! It may hurt to bend over and use a tampon after abdominal surgery (talking about on the way home), maybe pack smaller pads bc the hospital ones are super huge. I also bring baby wipes (flushable) just to keep fresh, that's my preference. Best of luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Me again

You really need to stay hydrated bc dehydration will put you in the hospital and make you feel sick. You can buy ice chips, popsicles and sugar free flavored water to help with Fluid intake as well. Sometimes it's easier to take in fluid that way vs straight water. Getting some anti nausea meds might go a long way as well

    Diabetics

I am type 2 diabetic. Purpose for surgery is to help control. I've had it for 18 years so any hope that it will completely go away is little. Keeping it controlled is my goal. I was told anesthesiologist will not do surgery unless my bs is 200. I was told not to lose any weight so I was eating whatever. After being told this I'm no sugar no carb. Hoping to get my numbers good for Nov 4 surgery. I'm trying to be so obedient to all the rules and the rules keep changing. I really want to hear from other diabetics and their journey! Hello, I am new at this.

Shout gun answer to sweet tooth is bypass bc......your and my worst enemy doughnuts chocolate etc etc won't allow you bc of dumping syndrome. Look into it. Okay now b4 you can make plan to follow through you must know "LIFESTYLE CHANGE" your eating will never be the same if you want to success and not regain. You have to be mentally strong and ready bc we all think we ready until at the time of suffering health problems and then we fail. That is my biggest fear and you see time and again some don't want to exercise or like me filling my stomach pass full stretching my tummy or whatever. So be sure and b ready and do for you.
