You probably won't feel restriction until you get to solid foods. You should figure out a portion size that satisfies you. I never eat too feel full that was my mistake before surgery, now I measure my portions out and just east to be satisfied. Good luck

How much do you eat?
AlienBandit replied to mandyMO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was first banded I could eat almost the same amount of food I did before surgery if I wanted to. I howver reduced my portion sizes. Once my fill was at a good amount I thought I was eating up to 1 cup of food per meal until a month later when I found a large measuring cup which turned out to be my 1 cup measuring cup and i had been eating 1/2 a cup per meal or less for a month and had no idea ( the writing is very small on my cups so I never read the number) -
Starting new job…how long to stay out?
Miss Mac replied to NotGoingThere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being retired was a huge post-op advantage for me because I was able to recover without worrying over a work schedule and dealing with people all day. At nine days out I was on purees and transitioned to soft foods at fourteen days through twenty five days. At that point I was permitted to adventure carefully back into cooked whole foods chewed well. I waited another month before eating raw veggies and fresh greens. By nine days I was not taking naps, but was really exhausted at bedtime and slept well. I was no longer constantly nausous, but I was still using the patch that goes behind your ear, and taking an anti-nausea pill every morning plus a PPI (Omeprozole). If you are going back to work at nine days, just be sure that you have Water bottle handy so that you can sip throughout the day. Protein shakes will be your new best friend even if you don't appreciate the taste. Adding a little bit of pureed fruit or vanilla and a sweetener may help. You can alternate between standing and walking and leaning on your desk. Take advantage of every opportunity to rest for a few minutes. I would think that if you have a textbook recovery (no pun intended) you could work at a teaching job so long as you are not the gym teacher. -
Clogged Throat Feeling
susanfaye replied to susanfaye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on pureed food still so no bread or anything. It may be from eating too fast. I will try to slow down. Old habits die hard I guess. Thanks for your response! -
Hey guys I finally did it! I had my surgery on 7/27. Stayed overnight in the hospital and came home the next day. I feel like I had the perfect surgery and so far everything has gone well. I am now sitting at home (well, not exactly sitting as I have a tri-level house) and was just thinking about all you wonderful people who have unknowingly helped me along so much in this process. I was amazed at the lack of pain post-op, and how quickly I was ready to get out of that bed and meander up and down the hallway. This was the first time I had ever been in the hospital and the first major surgery for me. I just keep waiting on something to happen because I just know it can't be this easy. I started out on Clear liquids and am now consuming full liquids without problems. I wil continue this until week 3 when I start pureed food and finally transition into regular food by week 5. I have my first MD appt in 2 weeks to remove the staples (couldn't talk him into using the surgical glue). I will have my first fill at 6 weeks. Just a question or 2: Anyone remember the "liquid days" and did you feel full after consuming the 4oz of liquids you took in? I am also kinda scared of doing something to my band in that I am afraid to cough but I need to cough to help my lungs recover from the anasthesia. Anyone have a comment on this issue? Anyhow, Just thought I would drop in and tell everyone about my progress so far. Oh, BTW, when they weighed me at the hospital I was 15 lbs lighter than my last MD appt. Did I really loose 15 lbs in the 2 weeks I was on liquids? Oh well, makes me happy to think that it may be possible.....:whoo:

Hi, From your ticker, you have lost 45 lbs! Celebrate that! Not sure if your surgery was Jan 2009 or Jan 2008, either way, 45 lbs is a lot of weight! You can do this! It sounds like you are very anxious and could benefit from talking to someone. The pressure of thinking other people are wondering why you haven't lost more is a tough spot to be in ( I can relate, and that is why I told only my DH about my surgery). I can only imagine that the injury to your knee and the issue with your skin folds is very tough to deal with, but don't use it as an excuse - You can do this! You are doing it! Make the decision to talk to someone, get a number, and make an appointment. Then make a promise to eliminate the foods that are tough for you to control - start one by one. Keep us posted, we are here for you!

Falling apart
Libbyjane1976 replied to AngelWhisper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awwww i'm sorry to hear about your loss. I know what it's like to lose a grand parent you were close to. My grandma died when I was 17 and she was the rock of our family and I was devastated. Just remember to cherish the time you had with her and know that she remains with you in spirit. Now as for the other, you didn't come all this way, go through with the decision to get your lapband to fail. You came to succeed. Quit eating the crap food, throw it out, start buying healthier foods. At least if you are going to eat, eat something healthy! Next with your knee being the way it is can you do any light walking? Or maybe like a stationary bike? Join curves if you are too embarassed to join a gym. I don't blame you for feeling that way. i too would not want some skinny ass aerobic chick staring at me either. Do you have a friend who would workout with you? Maybe the 2 of you could figure out something. If you are totally unable to do anything until your knee heals at least make sure you eat healthier. Good luck, things will start to change! You didn't come all this way for nothing! -
If you put in "food stages list" into search and scroll down you will see a post that has a great guideline list. Hope it is helpful, edie

Thanks for all your responses. Some facts about me. I am two years banded and had a problem in nov and had to get 2.75 out of band. Then had to wait 10 weeks for a fill. I was down to 174.5 Then went to 177. Then after unfill 180.5. I was on my way down so i was excited cause i broke the platau. I stopped weighing myself everyday. Once i started losing i needed reinforcement so i i got on scale. I am fully aware we go up and down but i needed the scale for support this morn. I am being care about food and exercising and have a doc appointment Fri. Wendy

When you get a Fill, how long does your Dr. say to stay on Fluids?
Jachut replied to 54Shirley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my doc just advised caution and not to eat any of my problem foods. She sort of leaves it up to the patient. I've never had any need for liquids, I can eat straight away after a fill. -

when will I be myself again?
MissWhitzel replied to eyezchu22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Obviously I'm not drinking enough because I got so sick today.. Was feeling very nauseous, every time I took a sip of something it made me feel like I wanna throw up. Called the nurse and says its normal- cuz my body is used to a lot of calorie intakes now I'm not taking calories as I sld so my body is reacting and changing so I have to keep drinking 64oz of liquids a day. I will be on liquid diet for 2 weeks to give my stomach time to heal before moving on to the puree stage. My roommate went to the store and got me Gatorade and liquid Tylenol - so I am sitting here drinking Gatorade, feeling little bit of same thing but less nauseous than earlier. Hopefully it'll be a better day tomorrow. maybe it's the same thing for you? needing more liquid intake? Hope you and I feel better soon!!!! Oh yea, I lost 17 lbs since my pre-op diet!!  -
lost 2cc's last week and gained major weight

I agree with Heather. Work on the psychological food issues, and also realize another partial fill may be just what you need. -
lost 2cc's last week and gained major weight
Just Banded posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last Monday I was in the dr's office getting 2 cc's removed on their reccomendation because I was taking one bite and unable to finish eating until 20-30 minutes later...I was also pbing frequently This Monday... I swear I am up 10 lbs. I look and feel horrible- I can see it in my face and thighs and and feel sluggish and bloated. I am able to eat waaaaay more than I should and am getting hungry an hour or two later. I am also having a hard time staying away from things I shouldn't be eating because I was so deprived of them for months with my last fill. I don't know what else to do besides electric shock therapy!!! Should I call the doctor and beg for some fill back in? I am afriad they are going to deny me because of my problems before. I don't want to have to be told to try another diet! I can't believeprefer the agony of eating one bite and pbing- but I swear it's the ONLY thing that has helped me! I am so ashamed of my backsliding and really embarrased that I was doing so well and looking so good...the power of not being hungry and thinking about food all the time is what I need. Anyone else been in this situation- what did you do? -
Its Me Again Long Time No C
icestorm12132008 commented on insanejane's blog entry in insanejane's Blog
I'm in the same boat as you i'm anxiously awaiting a fill, cuz i can eat now and the hunger is nuts. I go to see my surgon again in january, I was told I can start puree today wich i was very happy about. What i'm not happy about is the hunger is back and it is quite the distraction. You keep on thinking about that next 1/2 cup of something it's insaine. So this must be the bandster hell everyone talks about -
Tight band day? Loving my band!
screeden replied to BaileyRose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know for me, some days I am hungrier than others and can feel I am tight. especially during my monthly cycle. on those days I usually have more protein shakes cause I know I won't eat much solid food. -
I had a slipped band about a month ago. I ended up pb'ng or vomitting everything I ate, even liquids. I couldn't keep anything down and always felt full. When I laid down, I would get acid reflux. I did not have any pains with it though. I went to the doc thinking I just had something stuck, and instead found out I had a slip. A slip isn't actually the band moving, it is the stomach tissue moving up or down inside the pouch. My slip was caused by the vomitting. My doc drained me (except for 1cc) and made me wait for 2 weeks to see if it would correct itself. I was told to only eat 1-2oz a meal NO MORE. And a liquid diet will do nothing to correct it, the food will help drag it back into place. So, after 2 weeks, I went back on the 3rd and found out that I am extremely lucky and the unfill did allow the slip to correct itself. However, I am now, and forever, limited to the only 1-2oz a meal. That way I do not run the risk of my pouch getting too full and the stomach tissue coming back up. Plus, I should NEVER at all costs vomit again. ugh Moral of the story, if you are vomitting, get it looked into, hopefully a little unfill can fix it without you getting a slip if it isn't too late. BEING TOO TIGHT IS NOT WHAT ANYONE SHOULD AIM FOR. IT ISN"T GOOD!!! good luck to ya!

I just had a fill about 10 days ago. It was my second fill, and I am up to 5 cc. Water went down fine as did liquids for day 1 and 2. Mushies were a bit harder day 3 and 4 as I ate a bit too fast or they were not mushie enough. But solids have been difficult. (They were the last time as well and it took me like two to three weeks to get to a comfort zone.) But this time I have had some real vomiting experiences. I have had this really full feeling for about 24 hours. Feels like the food is at the top of my stomach and end of my esophogus. I really don't want to unfill if this will pass. But I cannot seem to eat much at all. Had 1/2 an egg and 1/2 slice of cheee for breakfast and then a few almonds a few minutes ago. That is all along with some coffee and juice and I feel like I have eaten Thanksgiving dinner. I did have some PB late morning and then an actual wretch....UGHHH I am so scared I slipped the band. What does that actually feel like? Anyone know? CIndi

I underestimated what we can do with this 'tool'. You've had approx. 85% of your tummy removed, permanently. It's not sectioned off, it's not a 'pouch'. It's GONE. The sky is the limit if you work it. At the seminar we were told, this is not a diet, it's a way of life. That's fine and dandy, but until I reached goal, I treated it as the most important, serious diet of my life!!! I wasn't hungry, so it was easy really. I am 31 months out and I still, most of the time when I'm home, will weigh or measure my food. Until I reached goal, I rarely ate any bread, none at home and only a nibble if we were out. I ordered dinner out, without added butter (they brush butter on almost everything) I never had a bite of anything fried, NOTHING sweet at all. I started getting all my Protein in within 2 months and I kept up the protein. I was fanatical about sleeve surgery and being successful. I had two goals, one, to lose weight, two, NOT to lose my hair. Mission accomplished. If you approach this like I did, or similar, then you can lose to a healthy BMI, I'm sure of it!!! Good luck!!!!

Restriction or Stuck?
NJGirl32 replied to EzekielsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, you have a tight fill! Either get a small unfill or choose very carefully. I am in the same exact spot as you-can't enjoy food without feeling that I may either get stuck or it will sit there and slowly work it's way down. I get hungry too-I know it's head hunger but sometimes you just want to eat! I am stickingto mushy type foods or making sure my foods ae wet with some kind of sauce. I got a chicken salad from McDonald's and could not eat the entire thing. I could only manage a tiny bit. I really do want to enjoy food at some point, but I also want to lose weight. I am hoping it loosens up because I don't really want an unfill. Good luck! -
Is there a normal amount of food?
Thomas CPA replied to MegaSue1017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At a month I was eating the 5 inch plate of food for dinner. Light Breakfast, Protein shake or bar lunch but a fairly normal dinner. As for stomach stretching and what I have read it is mostly an Old Wives Tale, the stomach will stretch and contract naturally even people who practice those Hot Dog eating contests don't stretch their stomachs, they just get used to eliminating gag reflex and get used to inhaling, their stomachs do not remained Stretched. Water and liquids pass fairly quickly and food, from what i read , in about 30 minutes. the reason the digestive process takes 24 hours is food passing through the intestinal track not the stomach. Check with your doctor about your worries so they will go away. -
Is there a normal amount of food?
LilMissDiva Irene replied to MegaSue1017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was still on mushies/pureed foods at a month out. I could usually get in around 2-3 oz of whatever it was I was consuming at the time. Those were difficult times, but I did what I had to, to make sure I was getting as much fluids and Protein in as I could stand. Good luck! -
Is there a normal amount of food?
jillw8 replied to MegaSue1017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on August 30 and can stomach about 1/2 of food. My diet progression is a little slower than some others. I have never Vomited and am happy with the amount I can eat. According to my doc I should be able to do 3/4c but can't do it yet. Good luck! -
Week 3 Stall....now What?
Mr_Worm replied to DDFinn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep...don't weight yourself...stay on the healthy foods and keep the fluids going. You'll read that many people like myself during the stall lost INCHES from stomach and waist areas...with no weightloss during the stall -

I wouldn't be able to lift him anyway. He's 6'1". I figure I can carry a gatorade and a bowl of food to him! I just hope it goes like all of my other surgeries!
