My surgery (bypass) was yesterday the 27th. My surgeon said everything went well. He also repaired my hiatal hernia. Aside from the gas I was inflated with, I haven't had a lot of pain, just discomfort (I'd say 3 on a scale of 10). I took a nice long walk yesterday to help. I've been sipping icy cold water, which I know some have had problems with. Later this morning, I'm being discharged. Then the real fun begins. [emoji4]

Sleeve to Bypass Revision
SleeveandRNYchica replied to chasingpolaris321's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I can understand you concern with the Barrett's Esophagus. I was worried that I would have damage as well. I hope you can come to a quick solution. I am currently working on meeting all the insurance requirements. My best guess is that I will have surgery in late Sept, early October. I actually lived abroad for my first surgery. My surgery team was great. Follow-up care great. For me, I think bypass would have been the best option initially. Are you nervous about having the bypass? There are several posts about people revising due to GERD and/or Barrett's. What insurance due u have? -
Sleeve to Bypass Revision
stacy0 replied to chasingpolaris321's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my sleeve April 17, 2014 and for the past year my reflux has grown increasingly worse. I have tried numerous medications which helped some but not near enough.do not eat for hours before bed and I also sleep with the head of the bed raised. This has not helped either. The middle of the night seems to be the absolute worse for me. I wake out of sleep coughing and chocking and ultimately vomiting. This happens nearly every night now. I went for my 1 year follow-up on Wednesday, 7/15/2015 and my surgeon has agreed that it is time to move forward with the Bypass. I am so excited and scared all at the same time. I am not very patient and I just really want to know if the insurance is going to approve it. Knowing that relief is in sight is wonderful but I am going to be so upset if it does not get approved. I have tried not to think about it but it is hard not to. -
My surgery has been scheduled for December 5th and I'm ready! I just wish when the doctor said his surgeries were being scheduled 3-4 weeks out that he actually knew what he was talking about. More like 6 weeks out...I had my hopes set on having it in November. The bright side of this is that I'll have the whole month of December off and maybe the first week of January. *fingers crossed* Anyone else have a date in December?

Weight loss has stalled, what should I do?
WendyO replied to WendyO's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am a bypass patient, not a sleeve patient. I am sure I need to be more active and have a plan in place for exercise. I am also unemployed and need to find a job so maybe that will make a difference if I manage to find a job. I try not to miss meals because I know how that effects the body. You could be right, my body could just be going through a difficult time. Thank you for your comment 😀 -
13 months post and still not there yet....
Licia'sjourney replied to baoros's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@baoros - I feel your pain! I have lost 66lbs in 13months since surgery and lost 40 presurgery. All you CAN do is make sure you are on plan and if you are not change what you're eating. Change things up. Our bodies get used to what we do so change food and exercise up. Just keep plugging along. I have not exercised and I should start but I haven't done it yet, my bad. I don't like to complain too much because I have not exercised. Sometimes I wish I had gone with the gastric bypass. But I didn't and I don't really have the money to do a revision and I really wonder if that would help anyway. I am still losing but its very slow. I keep worrying about running out the honey moon period and still have weight to lose. Hang in there. I'm sure you'll get more replies. Think positive thoughts. You didn't mention your age so if you are older that might make a difference plus you have thyroid issues and I would think that would affect your weight loss too. You mentioned being tired. Are you taking Vitamins, are you eating enough? I had very deep exhaustion that lasted about 6 months. Its gotten a lot better but my energy is not what I would like it to be. Exercise, I'm sure would help that. Anyway...Maybe you could let us know more on your food and if you exercise... -

I had my bypass about 7 weeks ago. I lost about 50 pounds leading up to surgery and 20 pounds after. I also choose not to tell people I had surgery. Now that it's noticeable, I've had people comment on my weight loss. Most people just say something like "You lost weight! You look great!" However....there are those people that want to know "How much weight did you lose?" I really don't want to give a number - for a lot of reasons. Usually I just say something like "a lot". Just wondering how other people respond to that question. Thanks!

hello - this is my first post. I did some research on Lap Sleeve Gastrectomy and discovered many patients need a second surgery. I am 5'4 and 373 pounds (eek). Am I correct that the VSG is the same as the Lap Sleeve? Is it normal for a patient to need 2 surgeries? My BMI is 64. "The VSG is a reasonable solution to this problem. It can usually be done laparoscopically even in patients weighing over 500 pounds. The stomach restriction that occurs allows these patients to lose more than 100 pounds. This dramatic weight loss allows significant improvement in health and resolution of associated medical problems such as diabetes and sleep apnea, and therefore effectively ?downstages? a patient to a lower risk group. Once the patients BMI is lower (35-40) they can return to the operating room for the ?second stage? of the procedure, which can either be the Duodenal Switch, Roux?en-Y gastric bypass or even a Lap-Band?. Current, but limited, data for this ?two stage? approach indicate adequate weight loss and fewer complications" I definiteky do not want to have 2 surgeries. Thus, what are some other alternatives? Is a second surgery always needed with the lap VSG?

August 26 Sleevers
Sandi in FL replied to Sandi in FL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a great day yesterday - diet wise and psych wise... today - started off great - but I went to visit my family today - my brothers were practicing today for a BBQ competition in 2 weeks. This would be the only time I will see all 3 of my brothers before November. So I wanted to go see them... but the smell of the bbq did me in - I actually sampled all of their meat... only like a bite or two of each. But I felt a little guilty when I left. I did NOT have any of the sides... nor any of the Desserts. I only ate meat - but I went there thinking I would take a couple bites of chicken only - and I sampled all the varieties. So now even tho I have done nearly 4 weeks of strict dieting then got around my family... and altho I didnt really screw up - I did leave my senses at home apparently -
Today is my first day on the forum. My surgery is scheduled for Nov 3 2020 and I am looking for my surgery squad. Who out there has similar surgery dates and wants to support each other?

Choosing between surgeries
Addicted replied to Chrissylynn80's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I didn't have a choice, I had to have Gastric Bypass because I had a Nissen for my reflux. I was told when I had the Nissen surgery that I would only be able to have the Bypass so I wasn't surprised. It was a serious decision to have WLS but I was in serious trouble. -
I had my lapband of 12 years removed 5 days ago. It was much more painful then expected. Instead of 4 incisions as planned I ended up with 7. I had a hernia repair. The lapband was placed a bit higher then it should have been. My stomach was adhered to my liver with scar tissue. I'm still very distended and in a lot of pain from surgery. I am going to get either the sleeve or bypass in late December. Does anyone have any suggestions for the next 3 months to help me better prepare for surgery? I did not know that I would be in this amount of pain. Is getting the sleeve or bypass just as painful? The lapband wasn't even as close. I want to make the most of my 3months til surgery so please make any suggestions. I'm on mushy foods and I still feel really full and distended when I eat. Does this feeling last forever? Thank in advance. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

A friend of mine went to New Dimensions here in San Antonio... medical information and she had the bypass done by the doctors there in Feb... When I checked it out they do the lap-band... I'm just starting on the lap-band road on May 26th with my first seminar... I checked the doctors out and they are highly rated... Hope that helps

So here I am... three more days of eating before pre-op. I've been thinking about all the foods that I want to eat and then forget about for a very long time. All these foods got me to where I am today. My relationship with food needs to change. My lapband will provide the tool to aid me in losing weight. I have to be disciplined and ready - and I am! What is scaring me are some of the blogs and feeds that I am reading about the pain following surgery. Does the incision where the port is really hurt? Will I be able to get to sleep at night? (Hello drugs!!!) How much gas is there really? The other thing that scares me is climbing the walls during post op and not having anything to eat for the week thereafter. But then I turn it around and hear that it's all worth the pain of a few weeks to be down a dress size and/or more. Seems that most are losing quite a bit of weight between the preop and postop 1 week. Any feedback? Greatly appreciate it. My band date is November 22nd:smile:

Was banded October 23, 2007 at the outpatient surgery center off Bee Caves. That was three weeks ago. I weighed 254 lbs. I notice that my personal scale is calibrated at 10 pounds less than at True Results. At my first post op appt., I gained about half a pound, it was very discouraging. I got my first fill November 7th. It restricted me for a couple of days but now I'm hungry a lot AGAIN. My scale shows that I now weigh 236 lbs. So if I add the 10 pounds that means I lost 8 lbs since last week. Cool. I still get frustrated because of gas pains and discomfort in the port area. I understand that all this is normal. My shoes fit me loose. I wish I felt better with my knee. It hurts very badly when I walk. I see the knee surgeon on the 28th, my birthday. Yipee. I have physical therapy tomorrow. I also have a second fill scheduled tomorrow. Hope I'm not over doing it. When I went for my first post op appt., I felt very light headed after the NP gave me the first fill. She said I was over exerting, and I was dehydrated and needed additional protien. Go figure. Get some rest and drink plenty of fluids. Imagine that! I can't believe that Thanksgiving is next week already. It'll be fun to visit with my family. Looking forward to it.:tired

I had my surgery in April of 2006. I had my gallbladder out in October of 2006, and a hysterectomy in March of 2007. In that time I lost 86lbs. I have not lost any weight since November of 2007. I have been complaining to my doctor since that time. He just kept giving me fills. I usually feel the restriction for about 2-3 weeks then I lose it. I also told my doctor this. He responded with joining a support group (thats why I'm on this site-by the way its been very helpful reading about all of you-THANKS) My doctor also said to go to a nutrictionist-which I did. Still no weight loss and NO restriction. I can eat a whole sandwhich ,2-3 slices of pizza, I can eat all day long, like before the surgery, I've already gained 10lbs. back. I have an appointment with my Doctor on April 4th. He is going to pull my fills out (I have 3.8 in a 4CC band) to see how much is in there and then he said we will take it from there. But I have to admit I am terrified!! Has anyone lost their restriction? Talk to me please! Is this as good as it gets for me-Am I done with the band-I am still about 100lbs over weight.:confused::crying::confused:

I was at the Pulminologists office this week. (My last doctors appt before surgery.) He says "You realize after you get the band on, it only takes one time of thinking 'oh I can blow it today' and you will strech your stomach out." and then you are done. Any comments on this? Im having the hardest time thinking that I could make one mistake of overeating and my stomach will be streched out. After making bad decisions all my life, the thought of changing instantaneiously is scary to me. surgery to be in November.:smile:

I giggled at the delivery as well!! You are awesome!!! I had surgery on 11/09/15. Shortly thereafter a horrible series of events happened: we lost our apartment due to an altercation between my husband and a neighbor. Her dog was off leash and attacked our service dog through an enclosed fenced area, and I was pushed to the ground by her shoving me. Hubby defended me and punched her while I was trying to make her dog release mine. Apartment company decided that we had 3 days to move out BC cops were dispatched to our location. The apartments falsely stated we were evicted. Because of the eviction on our record we had a hard time finding a new place. In the meantime I had surgery (before the eviction incident) I lost Tricare prime insurance because we could not afford the premiums. I received Medicaid after Tricare was lost. Here is the kicker: they refused to treat me for all of the side effects that I was having: nausea,gi issues, low blood sugar, blood pressure issues, Vitamin absorption, all fun stuff!! They stated that I should go back to the clinic on post that did my surgery...it was a bad vicious circle. Finally a few months ago, I was able to afford Tricare prime insurance starting in November 2016. Last month I had severe abdominal pains and went to er. It was found that my IUD I had placed a year before surgery was lodged in a inappropriate place. It took an act of Congress to get an appt with an obgyn to have the IUD removed. At that appt, it took 2 people and 2 instruments to remove it in one piece. I had no damage to my lady parts, so I'm still able to carry a child. I'm also highly allergic to the whole cillin family of medicine, as well as coconut. Sent from my Alcatel_4060O using the BariatricPal App -
Hi, I'm in Marion and I'm scheduled for the 19 of November. Not sure if I'm doing this reply the right way. Sorry if I'm repeating myself and you've already read this.
