Nothing tastes this good
ismini9 replied to Fusilli66's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Once you have had the surgery your weight (at least for the first months) will drop dramatically! It will be so amazing, you won't believe it! Neither will the people around you!!! In contrast to yourself, I was lucky and did not have to go on a pre-op diet. I, instead, chose my last meals very carefully Now, my eating habbits have totally changed and I don't crave the foods I craved before. Wish you all the best in your journey! -
Looks like I had a terrible rx to the anesthetic the first 40 hours but now I keep down some broth, Protein tea, and Tylenol w codeine. It's hard sharing room with people who eat real food. Makes me nauseous again. Heading home in a few hours! Sent from my iPhone using VST

Hello, I had to stay on liquid for 5 days, then puree foods, etc.... I had a hard time with the food as well... Sugar Free Popcycles were and are my best friend still! I talked to my doc at my one month check up and told him I couldnt do food much yet at all and he was not concerned a bit..... told me to be sure to only eat when I am hungry, focus on my protein and solid food will be tolerated when I am ready for it. I am now at 2 month mark and there are still foods that I will not even try because I do not want to upset my stomach. I love my crystal light, popcycles and protein shakes! Hang in there, everyone is different.....and only you know what your body can and cannot tolerate!

Tod I was on a 6 month plateau with zero weight loss. I started writing down everything I ate..in one month I lost 10 lbs. Journaling your food really does help. It keeps you accountable. There is something to be said about seeing what you eat on paper. It makes you make better choices.

Scramble them super soft with a bit of Gouda and finely diced onion and spinach when you get permission. It's heavenly. I lived off crust less quiche during my soft foods stage. Mine lasted about 6 weeks, so I made every type of quiche imaginable. -
Finally my first fill

Youre doing fine with your protein amounts, my doc said 80 may be pushing it. But, I was doing about 130 grams of protein a day. And no wonder I wasnt losing and gaining instead. I didnt gain much, but, it was enough to discourage me. But also take into consideration, the foods you eat have protein, even if youre drinking, you have to add up all the other protein. Especially in fish, which has high amounts. Cut down on one of the whey bullets, thats my suggestion, cause I was taking the EAS Protein shake that has 42 grams of protein in it. I was doing 2 a day. Plus misc protein. That added up quick. Its not hard to keep the protein up. Youre still doing great. SO keep up the good work. Also too much protein can cause problems with the kidneys. Anyway, I hope this helped. -
Nsv: Sleeve More Tolerant!
MegInNOLA replied to MegInNOLA's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi Rachel: My plan said I could eat solid food at 5 weeks out--had a week of clears, 2 weeks of full liquids, and 2 weeks of mushies/softs. I stayed on mushies/softs for a while because I had big problems with acid, and texture was a big deal for me. You'll be able to tell you're full through a couple of signals, and those differ with different people. Personally, I know when I feel like I need to burp and almost can't, I'm full. Also, my nose runs. Strange, isn't it, but I know other people on this forum have the same symptoms. You will definitely feel the sleeve's restriction when you're able to eat more "regular" food. At this point, my plan says I can eat whatever I can tolerate, keeping in mind my continuing weight-loss goals. I don't typically eat sweets (despite the last two days' lunch desserts!). I aim for Protein foods (Beans, cheese, milk, shrimp/scallops, nuts) and bites of veggies/salad. Really, the only foods I avoid are those that my sleeve doesn't seem to like: beef and chicken, although I "can" eat those in certain forms, raw onions, pasta/bread/flour products, excess sugar, fried stuff--just can't seem to handle the grease. Eating got a lot easier lately; I really feel like our sleeves hit a point where they kind of chill out--I still most definitely have restriction and can only eat around 1/4 to 1/2 c. at a time by volume (and that volume depends on the type of food)--a little more liquid volume if I take it slow. But I definitely get full and get that sensation of food that isn't quite all the way down if I take one bite too many (and I HATE that feeling!). I tend to try to undereat my sleeve, trying to stop when I'm not hungry as opposed to when I'm full--there's a big difference there. You'll do fine. Listen to your body and pay attention to measuring for a while. I still use my 1/2 c. containers every day, because I can't "eyeball" volumes very well, so it's easy for me to overdo by a bite or two, and then I'm in pain and feel icky. Best wishes!! -
Nsv: Sleeve More Tolerant!

May I ask you a few questions... since you are 8 months out? I recently had the sleeve done... I am in my second week of recovery. How long was it before you could eat regular solid food? I was wondering how you tell when you are full? How much you can eat at a time? And what types of foods you can eat regularly? Thanks, Rachel -

3 weeks and first fill now what to eat
Maddysgram replied to Hersheyskiss21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you've been cleared to eat anything, I just tried whatever I wanted and found out I can still eat anything, with a small enough bite and chew like crazy. I've never tried bread without toasting it b/c so many say they have trouble. I eat a lot of chicken, steam shrimp with sauce, steak, hamburger patties, Just made Zucchini Boats (recipe under food & nutrient) really good. Pretty much any veggies, poached eggs, Weight control oatmeal has 11gm protein a friend told me to add 1 egg white and get another 9 gr., That's 20gr for 1 bowl of oatmeal and very filling, most the time I can't eat but half. I think it's all about trial and error! Good Luck! -
5 weeks out and can't get much down...
faithstar posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a little concerned as I seem to only be able to eat very small amounts and I'm having around 350 calories on week 5. My NUT gave me a general sheet of guidelines to follow with no mention of weighing anything or counting calories. She just mentions 3 small meals and what I can eat and a couple of snacks in between IF i want. She has written for me to have an omelette with 2 eggs and low fat cheese and I made an omelette with one egg and cheese and had a quarter. For dinner I have a couple of spoons, if that and I'm done. I wouldn't say I'm STUFFED but I'm full and can feel the food sitting in my throat and I don't want to push it. I'm worried my weight loss will slow down if I don't eat enough and on top of that I feel a bit depressed. How much should I be eating at this stage? -
I'm Hungry, or something like it.

Congrats! on your surgery. I don't remember eating some of the foods you are eating so soon. I was told no grapes because you can't digest the skin or the membrane from the oranges. Did you get a list of foods? I find that protein shakes made with ice are very filling. Have you tried any? I still have them for breakfast and stay full 3-5 hours. Sugar free Popsicles and sugar free fudge type are good. Maybe try calling your hospital and they can help. Good luck! -
My 1St Dinner Party And I Am Nervous.

I was sleeved 12/1/11 so I am 8 weeks out and I’m on regular foods. I haven’t done well with most refine cabs like rice and bread (I haven’t tried pasta but I want to hold off). I’m really concerned with drinking, I had a few sip of champagne for New years but outside of that no alcohol and I know that there will be drinking which isn’t usually a problem for me. I would like one drink, not to make it a habit but what if any should I consider. -
A month post op diet ideas
RickM replied to jblgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was starting to play with small salads at a month out - typically chopped spinach instead of lettuce for its' better nutritional profile - along with misc. salad veg and some leftover or deli meat for a bit of protein. As you can see, some have problems with salads for a while (particularly the lettuce, it seems,) while others do not - it's a bit YMMV thing. The best suggestion comes from my doc's program which is to try new foods one at a time to test for tolerance before mixing things up. I've been having these salads for lunch most of the time since then and they still provide the majority of my fruit/veg consumption for the day. -
I just want to chew something!!
dmg223 replied to Scott 72511's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on June 8th and had to do clear liquids for 5 days post-op before being allowed to add in protein shakes for 2 full weeks. I remember at about 1 1/2 weeks post-op I thought I was going crazy! All I wanted to do was chew something! I was ready to throw the stupid protein shakes out the window LOL. Every commercial on tv was had something to do with food, I was going crazy. Right after that weekend I was completely fine. Its like a rite of passage for those of us who are banded, you just come out stronger on the other end. When it was time to switch to mushy foods I thought it was the happiest day of my life! -
I don't think it's creepy at all and I'm a girl. Lol I know exactly what you mean though coz most of my conversations with my friends are some variation of this; Me; hows it going...did you cook today? What did you eat? Friend; ummm I made stir fry today....guess who got fired from their job??? Me; wait so was it chicken or beef? Friend; it was chicken.....can I finish telling you this news Me; hold on!....so you just served it over white rice then? Was it good? Friend; you're so weird. For some reason I live vicariously through the people around me when it comes to their eating so I totally get you. Im almost 2 weeks post op and food is all I think of. Perhaps this is part of the detoxing period.

Just a gentle reminder to my fellow sleevers to always stay hydrated! Spring is here summer is around the corner so water is essential. I had my sleeve in January 24 2012 so I'm over a year out. Even now im still trying get my 64 minimum! I started at 240 highest and currently I weigh 165- my goal is 140 so 25 lbs away from there! I check the scale every other week because now I dont care about my weight I care about how I feel. By now I can eat anything 6 to 8 oz max if its protein then 6 max. Carbs I can stuff more lol. I ate carby foods and gained 10 pounds and I acknowledge every savory bite. Breaks over!! I'm going back to protein shakes and sticking with my vitamins and I know I'll hit my goal. What I'm focusing on is yoga, cardio and strength training. I love working out! Its an amazing and beautiful experience to know that you can do something and not feel tired in pain. At 24 years old feeling that happiness brought tears to my eyes. I LOVE my body. My scars my tiger marks are a part of me. I'm okay with it. I eat as many fruits and veggies as I want because I can't eat that much anyways. The sleeve works there is no excuse! I can share one slice of pizza with my mom and feel good when before I ate the whole box. Seriously. I share food with my family when before food was something I couldn't even control. Working out is my high. I just need to remember to drink water! Hope this motivated and helpes some good luck and well wishes to all!

Can I hear from the self pays please?
betttybboop replied to pschmolle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
To gain a little perspective, have a read through the Canadian discussions... we ALL are self pay (our healthcare system & insurance will not cover it, ever) and I think you'll find that an overwhelming number of Canadians agree it's money well spent. Compare the cost to the amount you've spent on dieting (programs, special foods, gym memberships, etc.) and larger amounts of food over the last couple of years... you might find this isn't that big of an investment afterall! -
So things were going very good for the first 5 days. The weight was going down, feeling full after eating. Now I am eating mushy foods and the weight is coming back on. I am trying to make sure I get some exercise. I go to the barn, brush the horses, did house work today, walked for 30 minutes yesterday, can lift 2 pound weights but it not going in the right direction. I'm trying to make sure I have the protien in the foods I eat. Maybe I need more protien. I don't know but it is a bit frustrating for me. I don't want to become paranoid about what I eat but I am afraid that is going to happen. I was so happy to finally be able to eat again. I want and will do whatever I need to to be successful. I just hope it starts going back down again soon. Any suggestions?

Whats going on with my sleeve?
Sleeveless in seattle replied to Happysassyg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't really feel restriction until I moved on to real food. Don't sweat it, this will work! -
Happy New Year! I told myself I would take a picture for the New year. I've been a slow loser (IMO) I was sleeved on 9/14/11 and have lost 53 pounds (two pounds from ONEderland YIPEEE) I never measured my inches but I was a size 18/20 in bottoms & 2x in tops and now I wear a 14 (or a tight 12) in bottoms & size large in shirts! I've been really emotional about my weight loss or lack of it, comparing my loss to others sleeved around the same time, weighing myself twice a day, but I'm over it. I feel good, my pre-hypertension is gone, my ankles don't hurt at the end of the day, and I can still eat the foods I like (well most of them) but in moderation. My coworkers are also telling me they see it, even though I don't. Still a long way from goal but I'm going to be positive about it and work harder to make it happen (EXERCISE!!!) Take Care guys!

So tonight I am having my first food since having surgery. We had a casserole for dinner so I blended it up. It's heaven! I'm not sure how to tell though if I'm full. That might sound really weird. I've never really had a "full" sensation even before surgery. I'm worried about eating too much, especially with it being my first meal. I put 1/4 cup of food in a small bowl and Im eating it slowly with a baby spoon. I figured I wouldn't eat any more than 1/4 cup just to make sure. But has anyone else experienced this? Do you just continue to measure your food to make sure that you are within certain guidelines?

Bunnydee replied to boatdays's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there! I am 2 weeks out and I eat the Rosarita canned refried beans-Vegetarian, soft tofu, cottage cheese, mashed avocado, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, cream of wheat. My doctor told me that as long as it's baby food consistency...i mash the heck out of it! LOL...I also have yogurt. You can add banana and other fruits to the blender and add to your shakes or yogurt. Oh yeah SF popsicals. I hope this helps some. -
2 mos post op and was wondering?

How much are you eating and what are you eating? Some foods definitely go down easier than dense proteins. -
Has anyone flown Malaysia Air and have any thoughts / feedback on their in-flight meals? On other airlines recently, I sometimes order a special Gluten Free meal and it kind of worked well. It means I get my meal earlier and it has less sauce / rice etc + more protein. I need this extra time to be able to eat for longer, however it can result in food jealousy when the normal meals look nicer I have never flown Malaysia Air before, so I haven't tried their normal meals, or special meals. I don't need a Gluten Free meal specifically as I'm not GF, but getting a special meal worked out well, e.g. getting it early, having less rice and more protein etc, that would be good to hear. These are the options: https://www.malaysiaairlines.com/nz/en/experience/inflight-meal/special-meal-request.html (e.g. Bland Meal (BLML) Diabetic Meal (DBML) Gluten Intolerant Meal (GFML) Low Calorie Meal (LCML) Low Fat Meal (LFML) Low Lactose Meal (NLML) Low Salt Meal (LSML) + more information and options on line above.) After any thoughts or suggestions on whether to order their normal meal or a special meal.... e.g. Gluten Free. Thanks!
