  1. First, don't compare yourself to others (but FYI, I lost nothing the first week and a half and it took me 3 months to lose 30 pounds. I was thrilled. I considered myself lucky because losing slowly is much healthier) Second, you are losing so whats the problem Three, you are approaching the famous 3 week stall so you may not lose anything for a couple weeks. It's normal. Fourth, this surgery is meant to be a lifetime commitment, not a race to see how fast you can take off the weight it took years (or decades) to put on. Your goal should be eating healthy and establishing new habits, not watching numbers. I suggest staying off the scale for 1-2 months. Measure your progress with NSV's rather than meaningless numbers on the scale. I don't even own a scale at only weighed at the doctor's office for the first couple months. You are adding unnecessary stress to your life by worrying about these things. Just get in all your Protein, Water and Vitamins, and trust the process.

    What are you excited for?

You all are on such a great journey and are going to feel better and better! I began losing weight mid-January this year. My surgery was the end of July. So far this year I have: Lost over 100 lbs Went from size 46 pants to size 36 (and still dropping!) Quit smoking Quit sodas Quit caffeine Quit most processed foods Started exercising (cardio + strength training) 4-5 days a week Cured sleep apnea Cholesterol normalized Cured diabetes (I was pre-diabetic) pre-surgery Blood pressure normalized Bought a fantastic new wardrobe Let me tell you all...I just went on vacation and I sat in the airplane seat and I cold cinch the belt halfway now. I needed an extender before. If any of you have been in that embarrassing situation, let me tell you...cinching an airplane belt is a huge validation! I could've cried. I could cross my legs too! While on vacation I walked for HOURS without problem. I even went hiking for several hours. Not a pain in my back or legs. I felt HEALTHY. food still tastes delicious, but it only takes a small amount to get that full feeling that I could never seem to get before surgery. Food doesn't rule my life now. Eating is actually sort of nuisance at times...I'd rather be doing something else, but I haven't eaten in four hours lol! I can't believe that. I bought some chili while on vacation and I had to throw half of it away because I was full. I don't think I've ever thrown food away in my life. I'm still laughing at that. Keep those positive attitudes folks! You will still have to do the work, but the sleeve is the most incredible tool I could've hoped for! Don't forget that there will be many great victories along the way to your goal weight...those are the non-scale victories (NSV) you'll see so many of us talking about. Best of luck to you all!
  3. eggs were one of the toughtest foods for Frankesleeve to readjust to. Scrambled eggs seem to be a slider food for me, but hard boiled eggs are filling and I'm not able to eat as much. I didn't realize it at first, but chicken was one of the toughest things for me to digest. Congrats on your NSV and doing so well.
  4. Congrats on doing so well. Passing on the cake is a grest NSV! Don't worry about stalls, it's just your body's way of adjusting to the weight loss. I found that if I just stuck to my food and calorie goals, the weight would start dropping again. I've gone through at least 1 stall about every 6 weeks during the 1st year, including the dreaded 3rd week stall - right after surgery. During a stall, I tried to keep in mind that, pre-surgery, I would have been sooooo happy just to lose ANY amount of weight on a consistant basis - as long as I saw the scale moving down, instead of up.

    New Shoes?

As soon as my calves fit into regular tall boots I went shopping! That was a HUGE NSV for me I didn't have any health issues that explained my feet swelling...but I guess the extra 85 lbs can cause a little flat-footedness that might explain the extra shoe size I didn't expect to have to buy nex ankle boots...or pumps...or tennis shoes! I figure I can wear two pairs of thick socks with my current ankle boots until I can get the extra cash for a shoe shopping excursion
  6. I hid my scale. Needed some NSV (non scale victories)

    ONEDERLAND!

Congratulations, that is awesome! I am pre-op but I already my first NSV planned out!
  8. 2 things I know for sure: - Our noses grow as we age - Feet get wider the more we wall barefoot That said, my own personal nose can't afford to get any bigger! It's always been big & bulbous. Now, it takes up 1/3 of my face (as I see it-though we don't always see ourselves the way others do). To me, it looks bigger because I'm far less 'cheeky' than I used to be so the overall face-width doesn't offset the wide bulbous nose. I wish there was a nose-band to get rid of it like the Realize band got rid of the other wide-spots around my bod. My feet stayed the same size but the Mary Jane & stripy shoes no longer have foot-goo pushing up over the edges resulting in less indented red marks on my feet at the end of the day. Thankfully, I didn't have to buy wide but I was more comfy in wider shoes/boots like Uggs. Another NSV was when I could see the defined tendons on the tops of my feet, and my ankle bones are well defined- & not just a skin-bump there anymore Fingers & toes are slimmer & appear longer. I can see the tendons are defined and also there's a bone at the base of my hands, at the bottoms of my thumbs, that sticks out & my wrist bone pops way out too. I've been shifting rings to bigger fingers - and they still spin around. When they start falling of my thumbs, I'll resize them. ha

    Funny non-scale victory

Other NSVs to watch out for, that maybe you aren't expecting: Your shoes will start to feel sloppy big, and your bed will feel like it got bigger.

    Funny non-scale victory

Well hello kitty! and thanks for the smile. I hope I get an encouraging NSV that soon. I am such an impatient person. Thanks for posting this.
  17. @@mariomomi nicely put and written these successes/accomplishments are commonly referred to as NSV's (non sleeve victory) NSV's vary from buying a smaller size clothes to squeezing in between 2 cars with no problems able to put a little tush in the middle seat on an airplane, with room to spare!! you guessed it - these are 3 of my NSV's look forward to all the NSV's you will be having post op great feeling you will see how far you have come - and eventually will go good luck kathy

    About to cry...

Oh yeah, and stay off the scale. Take note of your progress by how your clothes fit and other NSV's. I actually dropped a whole pant size during the month I was "stalled". I don't even own a scale, so The only reason I even knew I was stalled was because I went to the doctor 6 times between weeks 6 and 14 and they weighed me each time.
  19. I admire runners. So sleek and dedicated. Congrats on your NSV & for your transformation. Best wishes for your continued success
  20. Hey All, Haven't checked in in a while so I would pop in and say hi! All of you are doing incredibly amazing!! I had to change my profile pic to a before and after...and the after is from July...I have to update it again....but one of my most recent NSV/NSA was that I fit into a size 18 Calvin Klein dress for a wedding this past weekend!! When I first started my journey I was wearing a size 28! And I now have my very first piece of name brand clothing!! Never in my life did I think that this would happen for me. I still have about 60 pounds to go until I meet my goal, but since I am training for my very first half marathon in March of 2015, I'm hoping that it will melt right off. Keep it up wonderful ladies!! ~*Samantha*~

    Height, Weight, And Size Poll

As of my 1 month post-op on 10/3 (yeah, I'm slacking), I was at 283.5, down from 306 day of surgery. I know I'm down more, but I only let the Dr. weigh me so that I focus more on the NSV's than the scale. I get comments/compliments almost daily, so I know I'm still losing. I'm able to eat anything I want, just a smaller amount...I love my sleeve! So much better than the band!

Slowing down or stopping weight loss

Then give yourself the credit you deserve for recognizing this!! This is a NSV for sure, but keep thinking about it... Don't let yourself get too vulnerable that the old ways feel comforting. Truly, it sounds like you are doing well with sharing your concerns. Truly I was not mocking. I just can't imagine such a double edged sword- which this really sounds like. I am happy for you and your great success and wish you well on the next part of this journey!!
  23. I was never worried about getting in enough Protein or calories at the beginning. Frankensleeve would not tolerate ANY foods my 1st 10 days. I literally ate 1/2 sugar free popsicle per day that 1st week. And then I was only eating 3/4 can of Soup per day for weeks and weeks. I figured I had plenty of calories stored in my fat to keep me alive for 6+ months! :-P I did the best I could to get in enough Water, then protein. Just do the best you can in the beginning, and as your new stomach heals, increase the amount of water and protein you're eating. P.S. My hair thinned considerably around 6 months, but it came back with a vengeance a few months later. :-P It's been 22 months post-op, last week I went in for a haircut and notice my barber using the hair thinning scissors on me for the 1st time since surgery - NSV!!!!!
  24. For the past couple of months, I have came on here; whined, complained, bitc##d, begged for advice, and most importantly vented about my lack luster and disappointing weight-loss. I've had to laugh when the nutritionist and doc told me I have to eat more calories then most VSG patients because my body was starving, because I'm so big. And I'm talking like double what most VSG patients eat. Clearly there's no room for that in my "Baby Belly". But today I decided, I'm effing over it, maybe not the venting, lol, but most definitely the bitc##ng and complaining part. What led me to this amazing moment of clarity and enlightenment? It's when I finally start realizing that I have had Non-Scale-Victories happening all around me, but I was to engulfed in my self pity to recognize them. For starters, I have lost 2 shirt sizes, I've only lost 65lbs SINCE SURGERY, but I have lost 2 shirt sizes, down from a 6xlt, sometimes 7xlt to a 4xlt. I also have lost 6-8 pant sizes (depending on the pants...lol). I no longer have to sit 5ft away from the wheel to accommodate my super super super sized belly, while driving. I don't spill over in every chair I sit in anymore. I no longer force feed myself and allow myself to cover up stress with 6000+ calories a day. Although the wieght-loss isn't coming to me as fast as it is for some of my VSG buddies, it's okay, because it's still coming off. Walking from my basement to my second story is not nearly as laboring as it use to be. I don't need 101 medication to regulate and counter regulate my bodies comorbidities. I have achieved a new found level of mental clarity in my life. I can shop at Macy's. I can jog at 4.9mph on the treadmill, up from a 2.7mph walk. And today, I had the NSV that is more important than all of them combined, that is; I FLIPPING love who I'm becoming! So here it is, my Declaration of Independence from the Scale! In my household it's officially, No-Scale-November, meaning no weighing myself for the whole month of November. Victory for Me! Because it's all going to work itself out. Fidem Servare!!! Latin for "Keep the Faith"

    NSV shout outs

New NSV's at 7.5 months: Halloween - I led the pack instead if the rear. I had those kids charged up and we forged ahead. I was always the mom at the back wishing we would skip a street and go home. This year, I was the mom who could have kept going. Scrub shopping - preop I weighed 325 and was wearing 4X pants because even though 3X fit, they were snug. So 4x was big but it's what I wore. I rarely wear scrubs to work and had a pair of 2X from a long time ago that I could wear if needed. But I wanted some for the busy winter months. I went to the scrub shop and asked for 2X. I was about to check out And the owner said "I think you should try these on, they might be too big". I secretly thought he REALLY meant he was afraid they were too small because my head can't trust others good opinion of me. So I tried on a XL. Fit. Maybe even a little too big. I almost fell over. He said "I didn't think those would fit you". My brain has a hard time figuring out clothing sizes now. It's a strange thing. Painting - shimming up the ladder to paint my house. No way I'd climb a ladder at 325. I don't love heights but I can do it now. Den has a fresh coat of much needed paint. Hallway and foyer are next. Life is good!
