    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

hi all havn't posted in a while and was just catching up with everyone when i came across this, i used to love cycling many years ago and think i would really enjoy taking it up again, my query is i have a bit of arthritis in my knees would it make them worse ....jenny
  2. I do it so it's easier to follow. Sorry you don't like it. I don't much care for it either, primarily because I don't consider abortion a religious issue and it's generally illogical and ineffective to quote the Bible to people who don't believe in it. As an aside, I have seen Orthodox Jews and Muslims protest abortion. I've also seen athiests do it. I don't think I said or even implied you did. My last post (about how the discussion can be rational, sensible, etc.) was intending to compliment on the civility of your and my words to each other. I take this to mean you are a Catholic. Can you answer the question I posed to Rugman (which wasn't answered)? Here it is again: When Jesus was in Mary's womb, was He a human being? When He leaped in the womb in the presence of John the Baptist in Elizabeth's womb, was John the Baptist a human being? Had God created him? Did either of those two unborn babies have rights or a purpose on this earth? People DO change their minds on this issue. It does happen. Some very prominent people in history have changed their minds at varying points in their life: Ronald Reagan, Nat Hentoff, even former abortionist and one of the founders of NARAL, Bernard Nathanson, just to name a few. I have talked to people who have changed their minds after hearing both sides presented in debate format. I once participated in a debate where a woman sat in the front row and, at the end, approached me and told me she had been pro-abortion until the debate, but now she wanted to know how she could volunteer for the pro-life side. From Numbers favor prolific pro-lifers: as the pro-life/pro-choice debate moves into its fourth decade, the consequences of abortion are looming over many countries that face a decline in birthrates and population growth that could undermine social stabil (the article was written in 2002 but the trends mentioned have continued): A Zogby International poll commissioned for the Buffalo News (New York) in December found that 32 percent of Americans changed their opinions on abortion during the last decade, with 21 percent becoming more negative--indicating that those who changed negatively were twice as numerous as those who changed in favor. More than two-thirds of all queried said that they strongly would advise a pregnant woman not to get an abortion. Moreover, the strongest age group opposing abortion consisted of young people 18 to 20 years old. The tide is turning.

    Older Sleevers?

Mick, whether you are a man or a woman doesn't come into it. I have just turned 62 and I was sleeved on 09/18. The last time I looked I was most definitely a woman! Since my op I have lost 46 pounds (still to update my ticker!) and I do not regret it for one moment. I only wish I'd had the funds sooner as I was self pay. Of course you want a better quality of life and it is NEVER too late to do so. I am down from 7 HBP tablets to 1 and feel and look so much better. Your daughter should understand rather than query your motives. I sailed through my op and with HBP and asthma I thought otherwise. You go for it and start writing up your bucket list of things to do!
  6. My psych evaluation was very basic, hit all the requirements stated by the surgeon's office and no more than that. It was so basic that the nurse phoned me to query me about it. Because it was my regular therapist, they were willing to approve me in the end.
  7. Hopefully someone with similar issues will response to your query before too long. I haven't had such issues I am wondering if you have ever tried a low FODMAP food diet? It may bring some relief if you have a low tolerance to FODMAP food items.
  8. Well i like to think we are all welcome in which ever forum fits, and while different forums have different specifications, some topics, like this one sit in-between the lines. Who is to say that if i were to post in the post-op forum some one would not come along and complain that i was posting in the wrong place there due to me being a pre op simply wanting information to inform my decision as to whether or not to have the surgery. I am sure post ops are perfectly welcome to give advice and support in the pre op forum. Infact, i think advice from the post ops in many of the pre op queries is very helpful. However, there is sense to what you are saying and i appreciate direction, if i do not receive any replies here, i shall re-post the same thread in the post op forum. Regards, D

    Hi from Australia

Hi GregandDebra, Do you have private health insurance? If so, the costs usually go down to about 4000. Might be just as well to take out private health cover, wait the exclusion period (6-12 months) then try again. Otherwise, I can help with your other queries. The weight comes off at different rates, depending on how hard you work. It's not just an easy way out, you still need to actively change your diet and increase your exercise. Foods like ice cream, cakes and biscuits just slide right through the band so if you eat these all the time, you may not lose any weight. But if you work the band well, it works for you. I was banded in March and I've lost 27kgs since then, by eating well and exercising. That's almost a kilo per week. There are many others who have lost more than this -- the bigger you are to start with, (generally) the faster you will lose. It will slow down once you get closer to goal. Every day I am thankful that I had this surgery -- without it, I would be even heavier than when I started and even more miserable. It cost me 6000 (my surgeon is a little more expensive than most) but it's worth every cent to me. Any other questions, just let me know. Annie.
  10. Thanks both of you. It'll be good to be able to come here with my queries and worries to see if other have experienced them before rushing off to the phone to call my surgeon. I think I should have found this earlier.. Early days weren't too easy on me, some support would have been nice! Thanks again though.
  11. No this is new to me. Although I have heard of diets where you are expected to eat a small piece of Protein every 15minutes. This supposedly increase your metabolism so that you burn fat quicker. Maybe this is what your Dr is trying to achieve. As to whether or not it is scientifically sound I have no idea. But if you can't do what your Dr is telling you to do then the person to query it with is him.
  12. Hi, I've had to have Fluid removed from my band as I couldn't eat much of anything The surgeon removed 3 1/2 and I can eat! I know I'll have to be careful but as I'm haveing to re-learn healthy eating I decided to make it easier on myself. If I can't cope i'll just have to restrict again. My query is, is it normal for my stomach to feel sore? I can eat and drink but I'm achy and sore where the band is. I'm scaring myself by thinking 'corrosion'! Thanks peeps xx
  13. Hi guys hope your all well. I have a question for you well experienced banders. Do you have times ( I’m mean last for days) when you feel a lump in your throat. Not at the band site literally at the back of your mouth. Ive had this a couple times before and it righted itself with in a day but I haven’t had a meal in 4 days I’ve tried to have soup but threw it back up all with this lump feeling in my throat. ive lost approx 26kgs maybe more since weigh in, so loving that fact Just wondering if anyone has had this and what your experience is with it and what it is. Cheers

    What is your goal weight?

I love love love the fact that most of us are simply shooting for a healthy BMI - not unrealistic at all & completely achievable! I have frank discussions about my goals with my fill Dr each and every time I see him and he is more than happy to discuss each and every query I have. I have gone from a 52 BMI to a 29, with only a few more points to go. It is achievable - don't listen to your hubby - take it as a challenge & prove him wrong!!!!

    5 days banded

im down 10 lbs. i was told that the first 6 weeks were all about healing and letting the band settle; and also not being able to eat. thats not all bad considering that i have absolutely no appetite. in the last week, i've had one butternut squash campbells soup (two sittings) with no problem. a day later i tried the roasted pepper soup (yuk). a day later i tried some grits. yup grits. i was craving them. i had 1/4 cup and made them really runny. cream of wheat consistency. tonight... a soft scrambled egg. heaven!!! i ate it soooo slowly. savored every bite. AND IT STAYED DOWN. yeha. inbetween all of that food, i've kept myself well hydrated. reading many of the posts, queries, replys, cries, and goals, i have gleaned lots of tips from bandsters and future bandsters. yesterday i was able to work for one hour before i went home and slept, today i put in 6 hours... tomorrow i must begin working full days. we'll see what tomorrow will brings.

Go pubic at work or not?

I am a private person and only told a handful of people. There are a couple I wish I hadn't told -- not that they aren't supportive but because I worry about my secret being kept. Not sure why I'm like this but there it is. Must the years of embarrassment about weight issues, feeling like I was being judged for being heavy. Now I'm getting queries about the weight loss and I just say that I've been working really hard and I'm obsessed with exercise now, which is true. You can always tell people later but you can't un-tell! I would just say I'm on a liquid diet supervised by my doctor or something like that. Good luck to you!

    Hello

Hi Yasmina...and yes....welcome to the Canuck Corner. Too bad that the first post to your query misled you....it is quite obvious that person was NOT from Canada....don't get sidetracked from the non-Canadian responses; very different story indeed. No....nobody has been able to have it covered in Canada as far as we know. Good luck in your decision and the process...it is really a small price to pay for your health and a long and happy life! :grouphug:
  18. Hey! Welcome to the 'losers' bench! I am more than happy to answer any queries! I had soup mainly, not creamed kinds as they can be quite calorific. Tomato soup etc. I also had coffee and soya chocolate milk, cuppa Soups and some runny yoghurt. When I first got my band done I used to have jelly which was nice because made me feel like I was actually eating something! How are you feeling after being banded? Weight loss time

Wowsa iammomof3!! That is truly spectacular weight loss...especially for a woman! Clearly you are exactly on course and doing great! I'm so glad you weren't offended by my taking a risk to query you on your eating habits. I just think we in the bariatric surgery community owe it to each other to tell the truth, at all times, because there's a lot of BS and spin out there. This is serious business, and folks like yourself are heroes and role models to potentially thousands of other people who are suffering like we were under the morbidly obese nightmare. Sooo happy for you lady!!

    Today’s the day!!!!!

Well it's so long I've been waiting, I've faced my fears, cried my tears, queried my questions ,faced my demons, called them out by name, wondered my wonders, walked and walked, longing for something to happen , instead of all this talk, Crawded feeling humbled, begging once again , if it can't get it this time, well it will be just a sin. Watched others move on by me, sometimes they gave a wave, will I get my surgery before my health turns grave? Wondering what I did wrong? I did all they said. Will I wake up , know it's finished in a bariatric bed.? Well I can't quit now, I've traveled oh so far, I'll keep on my journey until I see that shining star. Three years I've been trying, three years until the end, A long time I've been trekking but this victory I'll win. ❤💙😝💜💚

200 lbs or more to lose?

Welcome! I am saddened to hear that you were feeling judged by some Forum members--the place where you should feel safest. Know that you are not alone! I am a slow but steady loser. My pieces of advice: 1. Find Protein you like and get your recommended grams of protein in every day. You will lose faster, protect against hair loss and will feel great! I drink Isopure Zero Carb (I like the orange, grape and fruit punch flavors). 2. Celebrate every 10 pounds. Looking at the "BIG" number of what I wanted to lose was overwhelming but the 10 lb milestones were attainable. My celebrations were a new purse, a massage, a new pair of pants, etc. Not food. 3. Surround yourself with supportive people and accept compliments graciously. You will see some changes before others and others will see some changes before you do. Focus on the fact that you are losing enough for people to notice and you are getting healthy. 4. Find exercise that you enjoy or can at least tolerate. Last but not least, I am a work in progress on the emotional eating issue that got me to 389 pounds. Now I ask myself, "Am I really hungry or am I thirsty?" "Am I really hungry or did something just happen that upset me?" Stopping to query myself helps focus me and then I make an informed choice instead of just eating. Best of luck on this journey--it is quite a ride and I am only half-way there!

    "Lucky Losers" (March 2009 banders)

The best and most absorbable Protein is whey PROTEIN ISOLATE. It comes in an unflavored/unsweetened powder, so you don’t have to worry about sugar and it can be added to ANYTHING solid or liquid. I keep a 2-5 pounder in my fringe at all times (Remember, you will need 60 grams of protein daily post-op for the rest of your life!). It’s a great way to get a dose of protein whenever you need it, especially when you get tired of eating the same protein sources day after day. Here are a few places to purchase WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE. http://www.vitacost.com/JarrowFormulas100NaturalWheyProtein http://nutrabio.com/Products/whey_protein_concentrate.htm http://search.store.yahoo.net/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=americasvitaminstore&query=Whey%20protein%20isolate&.autodone=nsearch.html Best wishes!

    Unbelievable!

Are you this drama filled IRL? Do you expect total strangers to drop everything immediately and answer your queries ASAP? Might explain why people leave you alone. Not counting the complaint in this thread you posted 4 times and 3 times people replied within hours. The fourth time you didn't ask anything so no one replied. The windmill's thattaway, Don Quixote.

    Help!!

I remember having something similar to what you've described, it was like a constant stitch pain , you know like when you run, when I'd breath in it hurt and could only breath to a certain depth, I had it for about two weeks then it settled, it also felt like I had an elephant sitting on my chest for a good two weeks before he decided to move on. Hopefully it's nothing serious for you and just part if the healing process and yes a good thing to query it with your doctor just to be on the safe side.

    info

Hi and welcome. The cost in Canada will range anywhere from $13,000 - $18,000. But, be wary.....some don't include the cost of the "lifetime fills" while others do....so be sure to investigate thoroughly. Yes, medical finance companies will always be happy to lend you the moola....that's how they make THEIR moola! And, yes, TLBC has a medical finance co. right in the clinic (downstairs). Line of credit is a much better idea (lower interest rate etc). Good luck in your search and research....we're here to help if you have any questions. I also highly recommend the "search" function on this lapband site.....it is very helpful in answering your queries and sending you to links wherein all the info has already been posted.
