Joined BariatricPal for support and eventually share my story. I am currently waiting on approval from my insurance in order to have the surgery. All my requirements have been fulfilled, so I'm just waiting and trying to stay positive in the meantime. They say another 6 weeks until I should hear something. Hoping I make it don't gain anymore weight in the process.
-
So, my last prerequisite appt went very well. The NUT answered a bunch of questions I had. I agreed with all. I lost 2 lbs. yay! Still have to work on my two bites of protein, one bite veggie deal. Of course, sipping water. The best part is that this office is so organized that all the paperwork will be submitted tomorrow. The lady in front went over all the prerequisites with me. All were finished and reports were attached. So, I expect to hear something from my insurance company next week (insurance says it won't take long for an answer as long as all papers are submitted). Then the office will call me and schedule my pre-op appt/start of my diet. I will have to do two protein shakes and one meal daily. No snacks. My one meal will be restricted to what they allow. Now, I just have to wait for the approval. Feels surreal to be at this point but I'm so glad it's almost here!

Tomorrow will be three weeks since my band removal. So far i've managed to maintain my weight and even went down a pound or two. So far so good.
This weekend is a big one.... I'm flying to Ga to meet Tim's family. I was supposed to go the weekend of the 24th... but the emergency band removal killed that. So we are going for Easter. i'm a bit nervous.... apparently his mom likes none of her daughter in laws and never liked any of Tim's gf's or his wife of 21 years.....
So ya'll pray for me... hehe
i'll update on Monday
have a Happy Easter Everyone

Last appt is next Wed. The center won't schedule surgery until approval comes from insurance. Booo! Says it may take up to 10-15 business days. Guess I'll be calling my insurance so often to make sure someone is doing his/her job. Once received they schedule pretty fast...but if I have to have a pre-op of two weeks then it looks as if I have another two weeks after approval. I'm guessimating mid May for my surgery; which would be just about 4 months from start.

No Poop for 7 days. Is it normal?
I'm 1 week post op Gastric Plication and apart from 1 teeny tiny bowel movement on day 4... NOTHING. Is this normal? Anyone else found the same?

Your surgeon should advise you to use milk of magnesia.

I tried all sorts. MoM, benefibre, prune juice and on and on. The only thing that worked for me was ducolax. Still take it every now and again if I don't go for a few days.

5 days post plication op. I've lost another 2 kgs since yesterday, a total of 10kgs (22lbs) in 2.5 weeks including pre op diet period, so excited. I'm at 89 kgs (196lbs) with my goal weight being 70kgs (154lbs) Spoke to my dietitian about soups instead of shakes and she was very helpful. She's happy for me to eat any soup that is thin enough to drink through a straw with no lumps or pieces in it. This has made a huge difference because I seem to have lost my sweet tooth (hope it lasts) and was finding the overly sweet shakes hard going. Pain has subsided now with just the odd stomach twinge now and then. All incisions are looking good and pain free. Feeling very optimistic.

One month out from surgery! Still stalled...(thought I wasn't - it was just a tease). Still, 15 pounds in one month is not bad, and the inches are definitely coming off. I may be able to get into a smaller size as my biggest clothes are just barely hanging onto me now.
-
Just stated my 2 week liquid diet today! surgery date 3/14/17! I'm so excited I am one more day closer to getting this band out!!
-
I went to my first Dr. appointment since my sleeve and I was surprised when I got on the scale. A friend of mine had a bet, she thought I had lost around 15 pounds since the surgery, and I thought maybe 10. Well, I've lost 19 pounds in my 2 weeks since surgery!!! I didn't think it would be that much. I've noticed some weight loss in my face, but that's about it. I was very pleasantly surprised. SO YAY ME! LOL

2.5 weeks out and I'm really coming to appreciate just how much activity revolves around eating/drinking. Whether it's dining out or just looking for a weekend activity. Only being able to eat a couple ounces and avoiding alcohol kills most of the fun venues for meeting up with friends.
-
I remember some of what it was like.... but it's been a while ..... The commercials still get to me... and posts on FB of all the food. Being from South Louisiana... our lives revolve around rich delicious food. I guess it's a sleeve thing with the alcohol? I have the band, so i was never told to avoid it.... just that it's won't take much to fell the effects.. So true, i'm a light weight now. But i still drink wine, i never drink mixed drinks with soda (coke, sprite) in it. I am a wine-o now
-
-
I wonder why no alcohol? Maybe because you stomach was cut.... Mine was not. So either i was not told to avoid.... are i had selective hearing and choose not to hear that... hehe. I don't eat much, so when i go to dinner, i always order a cocktail or two or three... depends on what and how much sex i what that night... heheheh

So, I told my boss I'm having surgery. The only reason why I chose to tell her is because it's only me, her, and her husbad (the owner) in the office, AND me having to be out for a couple of weeks maybe, I think she should have at least know something. I completely misjudged her!!! She's always eating right and doing fitness competitions. I thought maybe she might have the attitude of "why can't you just eat right and exercise?" But she didn't. She lit up and was super excited for me. She also knows all about it. Apparently her sis-n-law had it done. What a big relief!

The countdown is on...one week till my operation! I'm so excited!

-
It's my 14 week surgiversary!!! What!!! No flowers?

Got Vanilla and Chocolate Premier Protien, in the tubs, at Sam's. Ready to start my pre-op next week! 23 days to surgery!

My doggy is now back home in his cute little splint and cone. He is soo adorable and annoyingly smart. He figured out how to push the cone back so he can bite at the splint. He also is running on 3 legs but walks on all 4 (Except in the dirt lol).
My stall is finally over. I moved 1 lb on the scale on Sunday. I finally moved. I have been bouncing between 203 - 205 lbs for the longest. I am finally 202 lbs. I think its over. I have been sticking to my Keto and meal prepping. I cannot believe that I look like this. I feel amazing. I look amazing and although I have a long way to go, I am soo proud of the progress that I have made. I am almost to my second goal of being under 200 lbs. I have made the decision that I want to bring in the New Year at 155 lbs. That is an average of 9 lbs over the next 5 months. I can handle that. I have already prepared my Keto weeks and the grocery lists. I just want to reach that third goal by the end of the year and I believe that I can.
My ex-bf has been texting me and calling me a lot. Honestly, I really do miss the fool. I just do not want his insecurities destroying my progress. I am highly conflicted. I know he is a great person and I truly love him a lot. I just do not understand why he has any insecurities. The man workouts and is built. He is very handsome and extremely intelligent. As of now, he is being supportive. Sending me work out routines to try, new recipes and even went as far as to get me a class doing Aerial Silks (Something I have showed extreme interest in). I really need to have a one on one with myself regarding our relationship.
-
Yay for broken stalls! 😊 I wouldn't know but I will celebrate with you.
I do think you need to have a serious one on one with yourself. Also, have you talked to him about his behavior and insecurities? Maybe he needs to hear it and so he'll reflect on hisself and change. You don't strike me as the kind to not say anything, but maybe you didn't??? I actually broke up with my hubby as we were dating. I was ready to get out of the club, partying scenes and he wasn't. Told him he has to change for hisself and not me. So I told him to leave. Not long afterwards we're back together. lol. But he did change (slowly) and he did listen to me. Now I've got a great man, a husband who will move mountains for me, regardless of what I look like. He's secured in himself enough to not project what little he may have, if any, on me. I usually puff him up with compliments though, so that helps. Lol. So anyway, I hope it works out for the way you get blessed, whether it's with him or not. But until you know which way, enjoy taking care of YOU and your cute adorable little doggy.

Hi. I am new here. 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery.
-
Hi, all! In April 2017 I learned I needed a hip replacement but could not find a surgeon to help me. My BMI is too high making the risk of infection too significant for anyone to consider the procedure. So, after being obese the vast majority of my life, here I am. Time to face the demons.
One of my biggest concerns is failure. My father and his sister both had gastric bypass surgery and both are larger now than before their procedures.
I need to lose (and keep off) 85 lbs to qualify for hip surgery. I've lost 24 of it so far, pre-op. Ideally I'd like to eventually get below 200 lbs.
Surgery is scheduled for 8/7. Today is day 4 of a two week clear liquid diet (which is much harder than expected).
-
I had a friend that had RNY and never got anywhere near goal and has regained about 1/3 of their loss. They had surgery before I did. I learned from all of their mistakes, and that helped me not make those mistakes and be successful. So think about what they did, what they did wrong and try not to follow in those foot steps.
The things I saw my friend do was, not follow the post-op food steps. Eat the same just smaller (that won't last with time), and fad diet instead of finding a sustainable way of eating for life.

Three weeks post op. Down 18lbs as of this morning.

Hi everyone! I'm me and nervous. I just turned 60 years old. I think I'm officially grown up now. I'm young at heart, goofing around with my grandchildren all nine of them. I have had crohns disease since I was 19'years old. I still managed to make it through nursing school and more ask retired after 35 years. My husband and I have custody of three of our grandchildren after our son in law died and our daughter ran away. One of the things I would like to run by the members is my feeling of selfishness about having this gastric sleeve. I'm overweight, diabetes, hip replacement and crohns. I feel that if I didn't make it through surgery, it would absolutely devastate the grandkids again! I never thought I could even have a sleeve done due to having all of my colon and rectum removed. So, I have an ileostomy. I have a huge hernia at the site. I went to Duke University and the gastroenterologist suggested I have weight loss surgery because if he repairs the hernia, the weight will cause it to come back. I'm scheduled in three months.
-
Wow , you have quite a full plate, and even though you have had your health problems, you have managed to prevail. Not to mention, the sadness of your daughter running off etc;
If you have confidence in the surgeon, and he thinks its a good idea. I would go for it. Do not hold back because, you are afraid something will happen to you. Something will happen to you if you don't get in the best possible health you can. You owe this to yourself. Do not feel selfish. It takes courage to go though what you have gone though and you still have a beautiful attitude. You are too young, to settle for less health then you deserve.
I wish you the best!

To Sweet as peaches, thank you so much for your comments. I trust God completely, and I will do my best to prepare for the surgery. I sometimes have this all under control and my emotions in check. Then it starts to creep back in. The what if's. I totally agree with you about doing what's going to help me with my health. The kids think it's going to be great that I can do more with them. My doctor is very straight forward and doesn't give you the warm and fuzzy's. When I was nursing I tried to make every patient feel important and special, because they all were. Maybe I'm just reading too much into this experience. I have six weeks to go!! Thank you for responding to my message.
-
To larta, I didn't think anyone was responding to my introduction so today I wrote another one. It's basically the same. Thank you for your encouragement. We were talking about my daughter, well, she Skyped my grandson with a new baby on her lap. That was horrendous. Poor kids, they told everyone that their mother ran away and started a new family. These are the times where I just want to eat everything in sight! I was telling my surgeon that everybody in my house is fat, even the dogs!! My little granddaughter isn't. I have to get this emotional eating calmed down. What I have been doing is eating about the same amount of food that I would eat several months out from the surgery. I've been doing so much research. You'd think that being a nurse, that I would have this one in the bag!. Oh, no! Not even close! I'm so happy that I can chit chat with people on this forum. I promise I won't be so long winded. I'm just excited! Where are you in your journey? I'd love to hear about what you have been through!! God bless.

7/8 - Extremely healthy keto day.
7/9 - Halo Top 1/2 Cup Chocolate Mocha Chip (I am in heaven!!). Healthy keto day. Weighed in at 208.4 lbs. Gained 1.4 lbs
7/10 - Hung out at Coney Island with my Mom, little Brother and my dog Buddy aka Rasta Scoobs. At Nathans Philly Chicken with no bun. The guy gave me the nasty look when I ordered it. (It was like really, you are going to come here and want to eat healthy at Nathans?). With a nasty tone, he says, "It's going to be the same price and the same amount of meat." So in an even nastier tone, I said, "Did I ask about the amount of meat or the price? No. I asked for a Philly Chicken with No Bun. Thank you." He just placed my order and my brother says, "Don't be surprise if you find some special sauce or a hair floating around in it lol."
7/11 - Keto Day. Decided to step on the scale and weighed 205.4 lbs. I was like WTF!!! What is going on? At this point my weight is fluctuating up and down. I think I maybe starting stall soon and my body is warning me. It could also be water weight.
7/12 - Another Keto Day. Went out to eat with my mom and brother and I was upset because I could have the Tacos of Bell. My mom keeps saying, "Oh you have your meal prep and you have been doing so good on your diet. Taco Bell is not good for you." I was like then why are you eating it. She says, "I'm grown and your mama. Do as I say and not as I do." She is right but sooo annoying sometimes.
7/13 - My day was healthy. Received two new Hidrate Spark bottles. Gave one to my mom and brother. They are in love and I set them up on their phones.
Breakfast: 2 egg whites boiled with salt.
Snack: 2 pickle slices
Lunch 1 - 2 : 2.1 oz of turkey with a tomatoes, a little cheese, romaine lettuce and my special dressing. (Broken up into 2 meals)
Snack: 21 olives.
Dinner 1 - 2: 4 oz of ground beef, a little cheese, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and salsa. (Broken up into 2 meals)

@Newme17That is her favorite saying. Other than, "I am not your friend. We will become friends when you pay a bill in this household." Oh that one makes me laugh because I will look at her like...really....I pay bills....yeah....we friends now...lol. I bring my bottle everywhere but I have been slacking in getting about 40 oz lately.
@Meryline I have an insulated bottle that I use for the gym. I will take those ounces and it to the Hidrate manually. However, I used the Hidrate for when I am at work. During that time I will not drink much of anything because I am busy working.
@Apple1 I really am running on autopilot at this point. I think every mom has said that line lol.
@Sweet as Peaches It is okay. The stalls will happen. I am not stressing it. I have come so far and I will continue to move forward. There is always bumps in the road and we have to jump over them. I just wanted him to understand that just because I am heavy does not mean that I do not want to watch what I am eating. Like do not judge a book by its cover. My little brother is just like my mother.

Hey, I think I found where people are putting their status updates! Lol.. (Only took about 6 months...)
Ok, so I'm 16 weeks post op today, and am 50% of the way to my conservative goal (42% of the way to my stretch goal). I don't know if it's good, bad, or ugly.. but I feel great!

Well my weight loss is on vacation...lost 3lbs in the last couple weeks slow as molasses...and since I'm not eating anything (no appetite) it's really annoying.
