I'd be interested to hear about that too, I hadn't heard about that. I don't use them in place of protein from food, but I do keep them on hand for when I come up short in a day and just can't eat any more. I use maybe 2 or 3 per week of the 26 gram bullets.

Protein Shake problem
SunsUp replied to Jerseygirl21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. I wasn't aware. And now read the reports. Not sure about so many things written about different proteins. But what else is there that's tasteless? Not just no flavor added. I finished liquids and sleeved tomorrow. Ready to go! Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Protein Shake problem
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Jerseygirl21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi @Jerseygirl21, I found Unjury products to be good, and now they have a non-whey product. You can find it at https://www.unjury.com/planted-protein-chocolate-container.html. I've never tried it because I didn't have any issues with whey, but they are a known and trusted brand. -
what's the deal with hair loss
Tiffykins replied to seaview's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does regrow. I lost half of my of my hair, literally half of it. I didn't wear dark colored shirts if I could avoid it because I was blonde during my losing stage. But, it does grow back. My new growth is growing in stick straight. I had super wavy, voluminous hair pre-sleeve, now my hair has little body, and it takes a lot of product for me to get it to do anything. I mainly flat Iron it now to tame the stray, fly away, chia pet new growth. Edit to add: My shedding started right around 3.5 months, and lasted 3 solid months. During this entire time, my labs were fabulous, and I was consuming normal foods and hitting Protein goals every day. -
I was sleeved on the 26th. I am still a little sore when bending over. I seem to be getting liquids and Protein in OK. But.........I get lightheaded real easy and I feel like my heart is going through my chest if I do anything physical, (going up the stairs I have to lay down for 15 minutes to get my heart rate down) I was never like this prior to surgery. So, yesterday I went to my pcp for my post-op appt. My oxygen concentration was only 84% and mt blood pressure was 84/54. My doc scared me good when she suggested they may have to transport me by ambulance to the ER. They kept an eye on me, did an EKG, and redid my vitals. My oxygen came up to 98% and my blood pressure came back up to 100/70 which is close to my norm. They let me leave but she made me go get an immediate CAT scan, for a possible pulmonary embolism. The only thing the cat scan showed was decrease lung function, which is understandable because I have COPD. For the next 3 days I am to report to my PCP and have them check my vitals. If they plummet again they are going to admit me.

My understanding is it doesn't matter how much Protein, Water or Vitamins you take. Its just going to happen I started taking large doses of Biotin and B vitamins (hair vitamins) four months prior to surgery and following surgery. I absolutely refused to lose hair and was going to be different then everyone else. At almost 3 months to the day, I noticed hairs on my pillow but didn't think much of it (not true). While in the shower and rinsing my hair, a big clump came out in my hand while I was gently squeezing water out. And, it's been that way since (12/2/15 surgery). I've got thick curly hair and don't notice anything troublesome yet, but I'm only 5 months post surgery. I've looked at wigs, wiglets and weaves-just in case. I also color my hair and lose alot at the hairdresser-she's not as gentle as me. Instead of going every 4 weeks, I bought this product you can spray at your roots. I'm wondering if this will help hide patchy spots too? I try to limit washing my hair to once/week-coarse dry hair loves this. I wet it or spray leave-in in between. And, limit brushing to the underneath at night and morning. Let's face it, if it's going to come out, it's going to come out regardless of when/how much I touch it. There's a name for our hair loss: Telogen Effluvium Telogen effluvium is a phenomenon that occurs after pregnancy, major surgery, drastic weight loss, or extreme stress, in which you shed large amounts of hair every day, usually when shampooing, styling, or brushing. It can also be a side effect of certain medications, such as antidepressants, beta-blockers, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. During telogen effluvium, hair shifts faster than normal from its growing phase into the "resting" phase before moving quickly into the shedding, or telogen, phase. The symptoms: Women with telogen effluvium typically notice hair loss 6 weeks to 3 months after a stressful event. At its peak, you may lose handfuls of hair. How much hair have you lost and is it noticeable? Pam

I am almost positive I heard Dr. Benivedes in Richardson talk about a cash option. I haven't heard of any doctors turning anybody away yet, but I could be wrong.

pre-op diet- sudden blood sugar drops
highdesertblue posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone with type 2 diabetes had sudden drops in blood sugar on the pre-op diet?. I don't officially start my pre-op diet until the 17th, but I've been replacing lunch with a Protein drink. About three hours later, my blood sugar drastically drops. I've cut down on my metformin to see if it helps. I plan to call my pcp if it continues. I'm happy that it might be a sign that I can go off my diabetes meds after I lose weight, but concerned about how I will make it through the pre-op diet. A plus-since I've been trying to eat healthier, I'm craving protein, and my cravings for sweets aren't quite as bad for now. I don't know if that will last! -
Well Lilymunster its good to hear from you. You are going to get thru this trial by fire, you've quit smoking, good girl, thats an excellent first step. Now that calorie restriction, 1500 is not a bad level, I know you can do it. I've been on 1000 and 1200 before. Remember lean meat or other protein, fruits a n d vegetables. Minimize bread and starchy carbohydrates if you can't cut them completely. Get plenty of fluids, its not too soon to get in 64 oz daily. Thats what they'll expect from you, post surgery. No sweetened drinks like sodas, colas ,root beer, Dr Pepper, you get my drift. Some doctors even make you give up,coffee and tea. 1.caffeine is a stimulant and a diaretic. 2. A lot of people add cream and sugar to them-both no no Try to get enough rest, try to do daily exercise, it will, make you stronger and a stronger patient will be a healthier patient. Plus if You're out walking or other exercise you won't be so tempted to sit and eat. Take the advice of an older fat woman, you don't want to be worn out and worn down. Even this fat broad is walking more, if I can do it so can you. Hope this pep talk has helped a little. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

Hair loss... Can you relieve my concern
Mrs.RRn replied to Jersrose43's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So, everyone's different.... Mine started falling at 3 months and I had new regrowth starting at 7 months. It fell out in clumps. It thinned mostly on the sides of my head. Noticeably thinner but not bald. (I did have VERY thick hair before). However, a ponytail wasn't an option bc of how thin the sides looked when I pulled my hair back. And of course I took biotin & used fancy shampoos & got in all my protein. -
I've used the nuvaring for 6 years and I really like it. You only have to think about bc once a month and can skip your period if you need. Although after 6 years, I'm ready to not be on bc and my hubby and I are looking into more permanent o options.

I was on a diet when i went through my eight week class but since then I have picked up some of my old habits.

Premium protein drinks
OutsideMatchInside replied to Denise Ingram's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When can you have soft foods? When can you meet your Protein goals without Protein shakes? It is really up to your plan and up to you/your body. Honestly you are going to need to supplement with protein every now and then for a long time. So instead of giving up protein shakes, just find something you like. -
Starting PreOp Diet Today
catwoman7 replied to courtnojudge90's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the first three days were tough - then it got *a lot* easier. I think I was supposed to have 5-6 Protein shakes a day. I could have all the Clear liquids I wanted, plus something like a cup of tomato juice or V8 a day. I ate *a lot* of sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles because they were the only somewhat solid things on my list. I also liked the tomato juice/V8 because it had some substance. But I kept the liquids coming too (Crystal Light, broth, etc). It's tough but it does get a lot easier.... -
Yeah. I get cravings from any sugar or artificial sweetener. So much for protein shakes.....

I am roughly 4 mo. 2 weeks Post Op and just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant. This will be our second child. I'm in shock I think. Selfishly I'm wondering will I loose weight during pregnancy (not that I want to), but for restrictive reasons?? Im scared that bc i cant eat much, will that harm the baby? Will I loose weight after the baby? Can I still drink my Protein drinks? Did I ruin my chances of ever getting rid of this weight? I still have 45 more to loose. Help!!! Sent from my iPhone using VST

Hi there, This is my first time posting a new topic. My question is: What protein drink out there is good with a ton of protein? I would like to purchase some before my surgery. Thanks, Sheila

The backbone of my exercise routine is actually walking. It's simple, efficient to do - don't need to drive anywhere or set up equipment or put on special gear to do it, which saves time. Also, the injury potential is low, it gets you out in the fresh air, the view is ever-changing so I don't get bored. I can do it right in my neighborhood, at the office over lunch hour, or at one of our beautiful local parks - this gives me options for times of day as well as settings to do it in. I also have done some work in the gym before summer came, and continue to do some calisthenics and mat work at home, and have been doing some cycling and a little bit of kayaking too. So far I have been happy with the results I have been getting in terms of muscle tone and well being.

Recommend Blenders?
Bufflehead replied to Beautiful Mess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on what you plan to use it for. The only thing I really use mine for is to make protein shakes. I use a Cuisinart stick blender -- I love it because it is easy to assemble, use, and wash and it puts no foam or air into the shake. However, if I wanted to put ice in my shakes I am not sure it would be powerful enough. It worked fine to make pureed food as well, but I also used a mini-food processor at that point. -
I have Mirena too and its cuz of the high protein ketosis. It will go back to normal....nothing to worry about
