  1. I completely understand! The last two protein shakes I made made me feel nauseous for hours. I'm not sure if I'm getting sick of them or if it's the formula change in the premier protein shakes. I'm going to try some other protein varieties to see if they work any better for me.
  2. I am on week 2 of my liquid pre-op diet and the Protein shakes are starting to make me feel really nauseous and I have to struggle to get them down. Has anyone else had this problem? and what can I do? I know I need them, but I just dread drinking them lately. Oh and by the way, I'm drinking Matrix 5.0 shakes made with the Protein powder
  3. I am almost a month out and protein drinks STILL make me ill. I did not do well during my liquid phase with protein drinks. You'll get through it though. I focused on skim milk during my liquid phase and low carb smoothies from Smoothie King. Now I try to eat all my protein. To get to my daily requirement I am eating about 2 Low-fat string cheeses a day and drinking about 16 ouces of milk. Cuple that with my breakfast (egg) lunch (tuna) and dinner. I think I am getting all my protein in. Do a search on "protein drinks" and you will see you are not the only one.

    CRAZY or NOT$$$

Only YOU can answer that question. You have to be comfortable with him, with his requirements, and with his program. Everyone has their reasons for choosing who they did---it is a personal choice, and unfortunately one only you can make!!! Learning to eat in a healthy manner is not something I see as bad. I could take that, I would have a bigger issue with being told I HAVE to do this or that....just a stubborn streak in me!!! If you feel calm and relaxed when thinking of him as your Dr.---then it is a right decision. If not---then I would keep looking at my options. Good Luck in making your decisions! Kat

    Banded 1/08/08

Congrats on being banded. First I would check with your Dr on post op diet. I started sipping on my protein drinks the second day. I kept in in the fridge and everytime I walked by I took a sip. I also had the Kelloggs K2o protein water, and drank that also. good luck. Lois

    Well here goes.

Thank you for your input. I appreciate it. My problem is I live in the Cayman Islands so there is no up the street option. No matter where I go the flight cost is going to be high so it is kind of tough.

    no special pre op diet?

My doctor is the same; only clear liquids the day before surgery and nothing after midnight. But, I am going to start conditioning myself to protein shakes and a low carb diet a week before, just so it won't be such a shock post-op.
  8. 14 months after my surgery I am down 83 lbs from surgery day, and 96 lbs total since March 1...that is 5 lbs more than the weight of my son. INSANE..considering that I cant even lift him an inch from the floor, how in the world did I ever manage to carry 96 more lbs around on this body of mine....wow! This is definitely the point where the weight loss slows down, as its taken me 2 months to lose the last 5 lbs ive lost lol. I am also very near the 45% of excess weight that they say is most common for lapband patients to lose. My 45% point will be 103.5lbs...However, I WILLLLL pass that 45%. Now im not saying that hitting that 103lbs loss and then maintaining would be all that bad, but I would still be considered obese and am really wanting to get out of that "label" that the medical fields uses. It has not been easy, and as you get further along in the journey and the weight loss starts to slow down, it makes it even tougher to work hard, go to the gym, and make the healthier food choices..but you HAVE to do it..coming this far and then giving up IS NOT AN OPTION!

    One Month Pre Op Diet!!!

Thanks you so much! I will definitely be drinking protein! Although im nervous I know it will pay off! I want this!! I'll prolly loose 40 lbs lol or close I was reading on the 2 week diet and most said they lost 18-22 lbs lol
  10. I just did the Lapband on December 1, 2011. I lost 22lbs since the surgery. I'm so excited about losing. It's like I'm scared to eat or drink anything because I don't know how much my body will allow me to handle. So, so far I am only consuming maybe 2oz of liquids(water,or sugar free no cal. drinks) and only able to get about 60g of protein in. It's hard to get protein that is required (70g). Also, drinking the amount of water that is required. I'm ready to exercise!!. What is a good technique to get protein and water all in one day. Please advise me someone!!!!!!!!!!
  11. I was banded on 12-20 and am now starting to feel hungry. The first few days I was not hungry at all, I had a hard time getting in everything I needed too. After about 4 days I started feeling hunger pains, but they were quickly eased with sf Jello or sf popsicle. I've started to really feel hungry (and stay hungry) today.. I know what the problem is though, I'm not getting in all of my Protein and need to work on that. Even though I "stay" feeling hungry if I try to eat something... like applesauce or pureed fruits I am only able to eat small amounts and feel satisfied. The satisfaction however, is not lasting as long. I have an appointment on Monday with my nutritionist and I think I will be able to movie to pureed protein (tuna fish, chicken in a can) and am so looking forward to this!! I hope you get some relief soon from the hunger. Hang in there, it will get better!! I'm 12 days post op and have lost 12.4 lbs. The weight loss is well worth the hunger!!

    2 Week Pre Op Diet

Protein drinks 60 grams protein, greek yogurt 14 grams protein, 4 ounces fruit juice, low sodium broth, unlimited sugar free Jello, unlimited sugar free popsicles, Water, decaf tea or coffee. I didn't like most of the greek yogurts Fage was one I could tolerate, I would add my fruit juice to the yogurt and it tasted better that way. This worked for me and I lost 15 pounds on it.
  13. Hello everybody!! I had surgery on 8-22-13 after debating for a lot of years because I was afraid but I'm glad I got it over with finally. Everything went great no pain at all the only bad thing that happened to me was that I had a bad rash below my abdomen and my dermatologist gave me a cream that I was allergic to and I got completely burned and I developed a bacteria in which I had to take a lot of antibiotics and it made me so nauseaus that it was very difficult for me to eat anything its been already 3 weeks that I finished the antibiotic and still every food that I used to love before disgusses me, I'm only eating Quacke. Grits mashed potato water melon grapes and other fruits and also protein shake on the other hand I really don't know what to eat I would really like if somebody would give me like a sample menu so I can have an idea of what to eat because the instructions that I have from the dietician doesn't really help me much because I see that a lot of you guys eat eggs and on the paper that I have it says to eat egg whites how much creative can you be with egg whites only. Please help me in giving me an idea, on the other hand I have lost 45 lbs. But I haven't started excersizing yet for me its kind of hard because I'm not used it but I guess I'll have to do it sooner or later. Wish you all the best and with good health!!! Thank you so much in advance for your help!!!

    Alex Belcher

For starters, (lol) his name is Alex Brecher, not Belcher. Go to the search bar on top right, put in his name then click on "forum" and from the drop down select "member" then hit the magnifying glass to search. After that it should pull him up. Click on his profile and there is an option on top right to "send me a message".

Do you have insurance that covers weight loss surgery? Find out. If so, call your insurance company and find out the qualifying criteria. Then consult with your primary care physician, as they need to write a referral to a surgeon for most insurance plans. Then explore the various surgical options.

    calories

I think at this point you just need to worry about getting in water and protein. I didn't count calories until soft foods and I think I was only getting about 400 calories at that time.
  18. Okay, I'm actually a little over three months out now. My surgery was 15 July with Dr. Aceves. I was down 45 pounds at my 3 month mark. My starting weight was 242 pounds and I'm 5'1" and change. I started in an uncomfortably tight 18/20 and I'm now wearing loose 16s. The 14s are still uncomfortably tight, but I'll be in them by next month. My shirts were XXL and XL and are now L. No more Xs on my shirts! I've lost a bra size (both band and cup) and I'm finally able to wear my wedding band again. My shoes went up half a size when I went over 220 pounds, and now all of the shoes I bought are too loose and slip off my feet. I stall every month, twice a month. I lose about 15 pounds a month but I lose those pounds in two and a half weeks. I'm a type 2 diabetic and I'm insulin resistant, and my weight loss is "slow" compared to a lot of people sleeved at the same time. It's normal for me to stall for ten days and then drop six pounds in the next four days. Milk is not my friend. After a lot of work to pinpoint what was causing my digestive issues, the answer is MILK. Even lactaid upsets my stomach. My Protein shake, cottage cheese and plain yogurt do the same to a much lesser degree. I was looking for alternative and my doctor suggested goat or sheep milk, saying that they don't have lactose. I'd switch to almond milk or soy milk (if I could tolerate the taste!) but I'm about to move to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and I wanted to go with an alternate I could find once we move. Goats and sheep abound in Tashkent, but soy milk and almond milk do not! The great news is that goat milk isn't too bad once you get used to the aftertaste. At first it felt like I was drinking milk while munching on chevre. Since switching a few days ago, I've been able to drink my Protein shakes with only minor intestinal distress. I've also broken through a two week stall and lost 2 pounds, so things are moving again. I am losing hair. Not too much yet, but there is definitely more hair on my shirts and in the drain catcher. I've been taking Biotin (5000 mcg) since preop and I get all of my Vitamins in - I think the newly increased loss is due to my lower protein intake. While I was unable to drink my shakes I wasn't getting enough protein. I hope that I'll be able to pull through this without too much additional loss. My diabetes is well under control with just diet and exercise. I sleep better and longer than I did before surgery. I'm also more energetic and move a lot more than I used to, without getting sore or tired. Sometimes I don't see much of a change, but then I'll see a picture of me from this summer flip by on our screensaver and realize that I've come a long way already. My face is definitely thinner, and I only have a little more to lose before that dreaded double chin is completely gone. I have no regrets and would have this surgery again in a heartbeat. I wish I lost a little faster, but even at this slow rate, I'll be at goal by spring. ~Cheri

    Getting Cold feet

It's wise that you are weighing all of your options but is there a solid reason why you think you will lose your insurance? If you know for a fact there is a high risk of you losing it, I'd go for the sleeve. I do love my band but I do know that the cost of fills and unfills along with the necessary routine visits to the doctor can get pretty pricey pretty quickly. If you're just thinking what if what if with no real reason as to why you'd lose your insurance, go for the band. You generally don't need that many fills a few months out and if you do it's a fill/unfill here and there as your band adjusts due to weight loss.
  20. I too am a premier Protein chocolate fan. It is the only Protein Drink I can tolerate.the chocolate is fabulous, the vanilla too sweet for me. But then again, I no longer touch sweets they actually don't taste good to me at all. Thank goodness because before surgery I had the worst sweet tooth ever! Now it does not bother me if someone has dessert at all.

    Pre-op diet concern

Every doctor's recommendations are different, so yours may allow more. For my preop diet, I was allowed 2 protein shakes plus the protein/veg meal each day.
  22. Hi everyone and Happy New Year! I went to see my dietician last weeks for my 6 weeks post-op check-up. She said that I am doing great with my excerise and vit/minerals, but my weight loss could be more. She said it's due to the fact that I'm not eating enough (go figure). She has now increased my calories to 800/day. On a good day, I'm lucky if I can get 600 calories in (that includes drinking 2 Isopure Protein drinks). Some days I have no appetite and it's very difficult for me to eat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Katie

    April 7th Sleevers?

My nut had me on a new directions protein shake plain . I get to eat a small lunch and yogurt . We are not put on a liquid diet . The evening before I do a colon clean, was with a antibacterial soap and use a antibacterial mouthwash . We stay 2-3 nights . I'm surprised by the different ways to prepare for this. I'm so dearly gonna miss my buttered biscuits and po boy bread ... But I will be skinny when I'm crying about it! Lol

    Pre-Op Diet Starts ...today!

I'm not to far behind y'all, I start on Monday. I have tried a protein drink called "Lean Body, On the Go" at Walmart, in Vanilla Ice Cream flavor and it is veryyy good. I have a few more samples to try too, the GNC brand, and Unjury. But I may just stick to the Lean Body one, I like it.
  25. Hello, I am Colleen and I am on countdown to banding and I am SO excited, but nervous as because of a previous abdominal surgery and the horrible scars that DR. left, my surgeon and myself along with my Honey-man have decided that I will have an open procedure and up to 3 days in hospital. My surgeon is DR. Tommy Shelton, he is in Somerset, KY. I am on my pre-surgery protein shakes and enjoying them:ohmy:. I am sure I will have tons of questions a day or so before my surgery. I was so happy to find this forum.
