The Scale Experiment
LilMissDiva Irene replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ohhh girl!! I've had to let the scale alone. It was making me insane too. Weighing daily especially in maintenance might seem obsessive, especially in the case that PdxMan just mentioned - freaking over a 0.3 Lb gain. Now, I myself have never done that. I'm just the type of person who can bounce all over the place so such a minute movement would not even register on my radar. However, for me I just don't think I trust myself enough to weight in monthly. Especially not in the Winter months - oh heck no!! So I've proposed to myself - not even a few days ago even - that I'll weigh on Fridays and Mondays. I tend to let loose a lot more on weekends, so I figured this would be a good way to keep an eye o how I'm doing. Also, if I gain a few I can more easily get that back off than if I'd waited longer and have a heart attack seeing 10 Lbs or more!!! I've been fighting agains just relaxing into maintenance for far too long now. It's time to finally "let go". Good luck to all of us going through this right now!!! -
My neighbor had one of those "It Works" parties on Friday. The info is all over Facebook. They are these wraps that are supposed to tighten up skin, help with stretch marks, etc. Well I did a wrap on my thighs, that's where my skin has gotten awful. I can totally see a difference! Has anyone else tried them?

Not Losing Much Need Help Before I Go Crazy
Hopeful to be full commented on Pooh plus size's blog entry in Pooh plus size's Blog
I don't know if I have any "good advice", but I might be able to put things in perspective a little. First of all, I know you want this weight to just go away fast, but I think you are doing just fine (there's always room for improvement) and you shouldn't let this get you down. Perhaps your weightloss is slower than some, but losing slower will do a lot of good things for you: you skin won't be baggy, you will have time to develop muscle tone, you will be able to adjust to the new lifestyle instead of starving yourself/just being on another "diet", and mostly importantly those that lose slower are twice as likely to keep it off as those that lose quickly with drastic measures like starving themselves. I TELL YOU ALL THIS BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT I NEED TO TELL MYSELF WHEN I FEEL LIKE I'LL GO CRAZY. I was banded november 30th and have lost 25ish lbs and wish it would go faster, but i have to realize that slow and steady wins the race. If you really want to amp things up there's always the traditional advice of playing around with calorie counting (more or less depending) and uping the exercise, but you're smart enough to figure that out so i don't want to lecture you -
Need some inspiration!

I just got my second fill last week and am now at 5ccs. I am only able to get down liquids and soups for 98% of my daily intake... However, I lost 2.5 pounds since last Tuesday and I see my Dr. in only one more week, so I'm not going to go back for an unfill... I have lost just under 25 pounds since my surgery on Dec 4th and only 3 People even know I had this surgery... My almost 60 year old Live in Boyfriend does not even know... So one of my GF's who does know, sees me about once every 3 weeks or so and she commented on how fantastic I look and asked me if my BF has noticed yet... Since he hasn't commented or said anything I asked him... His comment was "Oh, you've lost weight? I know you said you were going on a diet, but I saw you eating so I thought you gave up" Okay, so Up until the second fill, I was able to still eat most foods and have been eating small portions off of a tea saucer... I said to him "well duh, I have to eat... There is no diet where you don't eat at all" So there you have it, I've gone from a comfy size 18 to a 14 which is very baggy on me and he has not noticed... Be careful on the tanning. You don't want to lose weight and get healthy to live longer just to get cancer... However, I bought a full size tanning bed about 10 years ago and I can tell you you do look healthier and thinner when you have some color. LOL... I left it with my ex husband when I left him... I realized the damage I was doing to my skin and cancer of all types is so prevalent in my family that I had to give it up.... Good Luck! I'm sure if you saw someone you haven't seen in a few weeks they would definately notice your weight loss. I think those who see us every day will be the last to notice and only after drastic changes... I think my man won't notice until I lose about 50 pounds... -

Can you feel the band and port?
Stitchy replied to RKidder's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can't feel my band at all. I can feel my port under skin and fat :scared: . However, I don't notice it if I'm not touching it. Or, if I lean against something like a counter and it presses on it. I can't see it either. -
Just found out I am having my surgery next week!!!!
shell04937 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I thought I was being banded after Oct 16th but the Dr had an OR opening next Friday Sept 22. I am so excited and nervouse at the same time. I have been waiting for about 3 yrs to have this done and now it is happening..... I am nervouse....I know according to my DR there is a 15% failure rate due to people being unable to change their eatting habits. I know I can change them it is just the liquid phase I am worried about. Is it harder then I could ever imagin? I wont be starving feeling will I? I know that I can do this... But after reading the area of this board where people have been debanded or are not loosing weight it makes me sceared that I too could fail. I could really use so positive thought on the band!!!!!! I really am excited and feel any weight loss is a sucess. Next week will be here before I know it.!!!!! -
Protein, you need more protein! Add a protein shake to your day it just might put you up there. You need your weight times .3 to get the daily protein required and I go the extra mile and try and go 5-10 grams over that. And don't forget you do need some fat in your diet. We tend to cut way back on fat, but there are healthy fats and it keeps your skin and hair healthier. Also lots of Omega 3's, fish and eggs are a good source, they are very good for your hair. My old nursing days coming back! LOL Good luck!

Available Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Michigan
Boo Boo Kitty replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First did I always have confidence--hell NO! I was a big big girl who was scared to death. I constantly made fun of myself before anyone else could I thought. I was a joke. I had no confidence but no one knew it. I wasn't always fat, when I was young I was a model, so getting back into it was a dream. It is easy to be down on yourself, and beat yourself up. But I can tell you it will NOT help. I believe highly in the law of attraction now. What you think about will become. SO do me a favor make a list of things that you will do when you are healthy, not why you hate yourself now but how things will be different. Focus on positive things. You did this for a reason, whatever that is, you need to get back to it and frame it in positive light. I am willing to help anyway I can. I can tell you that my experience may look great, but it wasn't. It was a rough road but well worth it. I found the best success when I got down to the heart of the matter--why I did this and what I needed to do to get to where I wanted to be. Then I said "I am going to loose 3 pounds this week." I didn't talk about what I wasn't going to do, I focused on the what I will do! That was the first step for me. You can do this, if I can, anyone can. Have you ever seen my before?? -
Pregnant pictures with port
Wheetsin replied to flydove's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hehe, I tried to Google some pics for you but kept just getting Jachut's avatar. I'm 15 weeks but not noticeably showing yet, maybe I would be if I had a flat stomach to begin with, but with this mass of loose skin, who knowns when I'll look preggo. I'm fairly normal in the upper torso where my port is and not a sign of it so far. The degree to which it shows will probably depend a lot on where the port was placed. Mine is up high, just an inch or two lower than my bra band, so we'll see. -

I have to change my routine and mix up my workouts now. buts its a life change, and takes time. you have done really well. -
I am so ready to get this surgery! I am looking at Jan or Feb but I am scared of it not working!!! I need to lose around 200 pounds I have heard all kinds of things about the first couple of weeks after surgery from my doc to stories on the internet and was wondering if you can tell how your experience went. I am also scared of how my skin will look and was wondering about that also.

Now that I am thin and leaving the house more than I used to, I'm trying to update my wardrobe. The clothes part is going okay but I decided I wanted a pair of ankle boots to wear with jeans instead of my trainers or loafers. I have tried on ten or twelve pairs and all of them make my legs look like saplings growing out of a bucket. Am I trying on the wrong styles? Do I want a bootie instead (they all seem to have spiky heels which frighten me with their height). I don't want UGGs or western but something stylish with not too high a heel that kind of hugs the ankle but is loose enough to stuff in leggings or jeans. I am 57, 5'8" and weigh 137. I wear size 6 clothes but I have size 10 feet. I have come to depend on the stylish folks on this forum to help me make these puzzling decisions. Do you have any advice?

Feeling frustrated - Please help
TXMissy replied to fancyface73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in my 5th week. I had surgery April 15th. I was losing and losing, then the 4th week hit and it stopped for me. my scale is finally moving again. I just kept doing what I was told. Eating when I'm suppose to and drinking as much as I can. Thd good news is that when my scale stopped moving, my body kept changing. I noticed more in the last week my pants are so much more loose, my bra (well I think it's time to go shopping), and my shoes. Thank God my sweet mother bought me a new pair of tennis shoes. I feel like I am walking in someone else's shoes. -
Well Seeing How The Docs Were Interviewed In The Boston Globe For This Procedure Id Have To Say They Are Willing To Do It , Its A Win Win Situation For All Really , And Hey When Ya Get The Money Have It Touched Up, I Would Think One Could Deal With A Scar Than An Extra 200 Feet Of Skin As Mentioned Above Specially If It Was Pro Bono, And They Said No Payment On There

So glad to have found this topic! I thought I was getting sick or something. The thermostat says 72, my skin says "Antarctica", lol.

I still have a ways to go, but I wad curious as to cost of the surgery. I have always promised myself when I lose weight I will fix my boobs. They lie flat against my chest. So I definitely need a lift, not sure if they can fix them without putting in implants or not. Also I am working out a lot but I have a feeling the skin on my lower abdomen is still going to hang. Those are the 2 things that I probably will get done. So how much wlll that cost about? Ive read you can sometimes get the lower abdomen covered by insurance if you have rashes or something. But let's say I have to pay out of pocket, what would it cost?

Thanks Thinoneday. Your story you shared with us sounds exactly what I just went through. Except my stall and slight weight gain went on for 6 months. During that time I was going through the fostering process to get my nephew out of foster care and into my home. I stopped betting down the munching monster. I too gave myself a stern talking to and decided I was NOT going to throw away the thousands of dollars I paid to have this tool. I was going to work it for all it's worth. I am back on track now and slowly loosing again. The bad eating demon is going to be a constant monkey on my back. Thanks again for posting your story. Will

I had to step back from all forums for a bit. Even after surgery I was second guessing and even starting to get depressed. I wasn’t reading anything negative or being attacked or anything. I just needed to stop reading everyone else’s experience. This surgery was about me and my family and being healthy again. Medical professionals helped me to make this choice after attempts that I failed at to loose weight. My wife and family were supportive with my other failed attempts and this was my next option. As for the Covid aspect. If I was to get Covid at this weight I am more susceptible to being in the hospital anyway due to blood pressure and weight so... I’d be there either way. Why not go for the surgery and make it easier on the docs and nurses rather then go in with Covid. 2 days post op vs weeks with Covid. You are welcome docs and nurses. But truely my stepping back from the forums for a couple weeks has helped me. As well as going to the doctors and listening to my trusted medical professionals.

Can't get protein in
missdeeAus replied to MarieLouise's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have only been told to aim for 50G Protein a day and stay under 800 cals. I'm at 4 weeks and believe I'm healing well and am certainly choosing foods with protein but could someone explain why the extra protein helps you loose more weight? For instance I could easy add some protien powder to my zucchini slice etc but I didn't think it was necessary given the slice already has eggs.... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I'm one year out, I had 13 more pounds to goal. I've lost 52 lbs, I have lost tons of inches. I went from a size 14-16 to a 6-4 . I workout everyday and tried to be mindful of what I eat. I had Gallbladder surgery a month ago. I've recently stared gaining weight and I'm so worry, it's not a lot 7lbs I'm afraid that's how it's start and I gain all the way back. ( literally crying) I don't know what to do. Has anyone gained the weight back or gained weight. How did you loose it. Help please

hi fellow sleevers i have 90-95 lbs. to loose total. Thats alot, but not the most weight to loose, so, i figured i would have no excess skin hanging. Wrong!!! A few weels ago, i had a little sagging pouch develop (tummy) really not too bad at all, now i realized its a little bigger. its still really pretty small, but its definitely there. Then i realized that the weight i lost from by rear end, well thats sagging a bit too. not much really - but again its there. Who was i trying to kid that this wouldn't happen  kathy

How many people needed plastic surgery?
clayverde replied to clayverde's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks for the info! I realize that there is often a desire to tighten everything up - especially after kids and all, nevermind with weight loss. What I am trying to figure out is if I will legitimately NEED the plastic surgery. I have to lose 178 lbs. and I have seen people with that type of weight loss where the skin just hangs off them in huge folds. Which of course leads to rashes, sores, etc beyond just the issue of wanting to get rid of all the excess skin. So I am just trying to see if anyone else has lost that type of weight and not had such a severe problem. That's why I tried to specify between the actual NEED and just wanting to tighten it all up. Should I edit the poll? I tried to make it simple but still get the info I was looking for - I had hoped that between the poll and the first post, it would be clear what I was looking for, but now I'm not sure! Anyway, thanks for the helpful information it is always great to hear from people further down the road on this and so successful - it is so inspiring and gives me confidence that I can really do this and make it work for me. So thanks again!!
