    What is a mini bypass?

Thanks for all of the information! My surgeon said he didn’t bring up as much intestine but he didn’t call it a mini bypass.

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

I have my surgery on November 28th in Las Vegas, Nevada. I start the liquid pre op on Monday Nov 14th. I just started getting all my shipments of protein shakes, protein drinks, stocked up on sugar free jello and popsicles. Cleaned out my refrigerator and gave all my meat etc that i had in the freezer to a friend. I am not leaving anything to chance LOL.. let my family know I won't be at thanksgiving this year to avoid temptation!

Hello I’m having sleeve surgery November 30 . Just reaching out anyone else having surgery in November? My surgery will be in San Antonio.
  4. Hello. I am really really struggling. I have only lost 9 lbs at the 6 week mark after gastric bypass surgery. I lost over 50 lbs prior to surgery. I don’t feel restricted but I am totally following my instructions for intake. Today, I tried beginner’s yoga for overweight people and couldn’t even get near the poses. I feel like just giving up.
  5. I got my bypass done through Wisconsin Medicaid, and it took about 2 months for final approvement. I had the same fears as you. If all your Drs are onboard, and you've jumped through all the hoops, just keep a positive attitude! You won't be refused unless a Dr found the necessity questionable, and you would know that already. Keep your chin up, attitude positive, and with all of us rooting for you, you got this girl!!!

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Got my gastric bypass on Nov 4. Doing really good, but tire easily. Just started on pureed foods. SO made me chicken with peas & carrots. Looked like baby poop, but tasted delicious! Lost 12 pounds since surgery day. Glad to be able to have my protein shakes again! A good friend of mine who had a bypass done just over a year ago, can't believe I haven't experienced dumping syndrome yet. Keeping my fingers crossed, but very careful with how I am adding food into my diet. Hope all is going well with my early Nov surgery buddies!!

I'm scheduled for November 23rd as well!!
  8. I live in a city that focuses a lot on beauty & looks, & I've met people who have gotten the mini bypass & mini sleeve. However they were women who got it while their bmi is under 30 & wanted to get rid of those last few lbs so they look better. I believe most people I met or heard about getting it got it in Mexico as they're obv would not be approved here. I know this doesn't answer your question but I find it fascinating that the only-slightly-overweight do this too lol

    Anyone have surgery on Halloween?

Thank you! Do they have a Gastric bypass forum for those months as well?
  10. I'm another who can't tolerate protein shakes post-op. They're just too sweet. There's one brand I can stomach (BSc Clean Vegan), but I only drink it occasionally when I want to hit most of my protein in one "meal", and I definitely don't enjoy it. Instead I drink protein water throughout the day to supplement my food-based intake. Adding unflavoured powder to soups etc was basically like adding mud. Completely inedible. It's probably a different story with whey protein, but plant-based protein powder needs a lot of flavouring and help to be palatable. It's strange how the taste buds change, as I was absolutely fine drinking protein shakes before my bypass. The tolerance for them hasn't come back, and I'm over a year post-op now.

The first couple of months were terrible I had the bypass last Dec 2nd and had some complications so it took me longer to heal but by February I was feeling good. Was throwing up and in pain for what felt like firever. Now I'm doing great I hit my goal weight my surgeon gave me Halloween and my bmi went from 47 to now it's a 25 Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

You will not be alone on thanksgiving for sure. I start my two week liquid diet on 11-14 and will be on it on thanksgiving. I am scheduled 11-28, I think I might be the last one in November that is in this group. I haven't seen anyone posting the 28th or after. I wish you the best, please keep us posted!

How long did you drink protein shakes after bypass?

I’m 2yrs out from sleeve to bypass revision and still drink a protein shake most days in my coffee. Do what works for you and is acceptable with your surgical team.
  14. Hello, I had bypass a little over 7 months ago. I still drink a protein shake everyday. Otherwise, I have to eat NON stop ALL day to hit my protein goal. I am not a breakfast person, so I actually don't mind just grabbing it for breakfast to give my protein a boost right out of the gate. You can stop drinking them whenever you want, you just need to maintain your protein goals. Vitamins depends solely on the vitamins and your blood work. I take a "1 a day" bariatric multi vitamin and calcium each day. Vitamin at breakfast and calcium at lunch. So far so good with blood work but I am early out so we will see how it worked out in a few months at my 1 year blood work.

    What is a mini bypass?

I had to google it when I saw it the first time. Apparently they bypass less of the intestines with mini bypass, otherwise the same.
  16. I see people on here talk about a mini bypass. What is the difference between a mini bypass & a Roux n y (bypass)?
  17. I couldn’t drink protein shakes after my bypass because they felt like they filled my tiny stomach up. I was told that they really weren’t beneficial since they were liquid they pretty much went right through the stomach anyway. I use the patch vitamins every night. I’m over 4 years out & the only thing I have had trouble with is my iron but I have a history of anemia so it’s not really from the by pass.
  18. Hello there, I got a mini bypass in February, and I am wondering if maybe it's time to make life easier. I'd like to cut out the daily protein shake I drink and perhaps take vitamins morning and evening instead of four times per day, as I do now. Can anyone please share their experiences? Thank you.
  19. Hi, certified vegan bypasser here! 🤓 It's totally doable, and I've had no issues at all hitting my protein goals both with and without vegan protein water. The protein water has been a big help, but honestly, even if I wasn't vegan I'd still be using the protein water as there are days when I just want to eat vegetables and don't want to deal with heavy seitans. Speaking of, seitan (wheat meat/faux meats) are the best source of high protein I've found. The best ones can be sourced from good Chinese grocers in the freezer section. If you have a Trader Joes or Wholefoods near you, I expect they'd have a great vegan section. Some examples of the protein counts in the seitans I have access to: Chinese supermarket Not Pork 100g serve = 165 cal, 21g protein Chinese supermarket Not Duck 100g serve = 150 cal, 19g protein Princess G brand "Crispy G" 100g serve = 266 cal, 17g protein Sayur Not Pork 100g serve = 155 cal, 21g protein Lamyong is another great faux meat brand. But if you can't source good faux meats, good old tofu comes through: Firm Tofu (½ cup/126g) = 181 cal, 21.8g protein Marinate that tofu in something delicious, and fry it up with some asian greens! Some mung bean pastas are high in protein. Not the nicest wheat pasta substitute, but with a nice tangy tomato sauce and a little vegan Parmesan, it's acceptable. Also check the nutritional info on the back of Gardein products, I think they're pretty easy to find. Soy milk has about 8g of protein per serve, so that's another way of slipping some extra protein in, especially if you can tolerate protein shakes. Protein fortified soy milk (10g per serve) in a plant based protein shake gives me a whopping 40g of protein in one go, so again, on days when I'm just craving vegetables, I can do a shake for breakfast and a protein water or two throughout the day and easily hit my goals. Some vegetables are also higher in protein, like edamame, but I honestly just stick with protein water and seitans, as that's what I enjoy. Hope that helps!

    Anyone have surgery on Halloween?

Hi and welcome! You can check the October surgery support group or November (there are some there from that date) October 2022 surgery support - Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums - BariatricPal November 2022 surgery support! - Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums - BariatricPal
  21. Hi all I'm new to the forums. I had gastric bypass surgery on Halloween that just passed. Wondering if anyone else had it on or around the same day and how are you doing so far? I'm trying to get used to everything, sure is a big life changer but for the most part I think I'm doing well. Would love to hear from others in the same boat.

I was revised to bypass because I developed GERD after sleeve. Fun times. 🤦‍♀️ It’s super common unfortunately.

    Reflux 2 days post op

I had sleeve.. so far not more issues with reflux.. some minor experiences which I suppose is to be expected but still taking propantazole for another 2 weeks.. surgeon said he want concerned at this rage and will re assess is 3 months but to call him if I am concerned.. so glad you have been able to fix your reflux with the bypass!! I’m hoping I don’t get any more experience of it but I guess it’s a major change to my gastric function so to be expected at times.
