I found this on another Blog, I thought it was well stated...I hope this helps answer one of your questions. "You must increase your protein and lower your carb intake in order to lose the proper amount of weight and/or shrink your liver during the pre-op phase. Glucose stored in the liver is called glycogen. Glycogen is like your backup fuel. When the body is deprived of carbs, glycogen is yanked from your liver, forcing your body to burn fat, causing your liver to shrink. If your surgeon is not able to move the liver out of the way, your surgery could get cancelled. Depending on your insurance plan, you might not get another chance." Best of Luck, Christy
  4. Congratulations...One simple choice can really make a difference! Good luck with surgery and be sure to let us all know how you are doing!

Wow, 26 lbs in a month...OUTSTANDING...keep up the great work. I didn't really honestly see the weight loss in myself until about 40 lbs...of course everyone else noticed. Maybe we are little harder on ourselves, or we are in denial that the scale is going down. Now when I look back at pictures I really see the difference...hmm I know I had a hard time with self image and allowing myself to embrace my losses. Your doing great...keep up the great work...and celebrate. Embrace the new you that is emerging!

My fill went off without a problem....yay for soft handed Doctors. My First fill this time....2.5cc's. He did say that I had alot of scar tissue, so I will probably feel some restriction....time will tell :cursing:)
  7. I did this many times along my journey, which is why I tell everyone to make sure you log not only your weight but your inches. Especially if your excercising, because muscle weighs more than fat...but it will eventually catch up and you will start seeing a loss again. Your whole body is changing during this process. Celebrate all of your successes, not just the ones on the scale but on the measuring tape as well. Your doing great, keep it up and stay strong!!

Finally Friday Nov. 5th....Oh how I've been waiting for this day. I go in for my first fill today, since surgery for my Slippage on 9/21/10. I'm hoping for a full release back to my excercise program and to get back on track. I am trying my hardest to not focus on the scale right now...as I know I have gained a little during all of this. Not to worry...those pound will be a memory very soon. I've managed to bounce back and forth for the last 6 weeks by about 5lbs...which tells me a little something about myself. I really need this tool to stay successful. Also for some of you who can do this without excercise, I cannot...it has been the key to my continued loss. I've had to fight for every pound and this has not been easy. Prior to my slip...my sweet spot was 5.9cc's, I can't help but wonder how different its going to be this time. The placement of the band seems to be great, and I can eat a little bit of rice and chicken...two foods that were on the "devils" list for me before...bread is still not my friend, and that is OK! I also wonder what amount of a fill I will get. I will update this blog after my appt. today. Anyways I'm so excited and wanted to share with everyone who has been following my progress the past 6 weeks. I also wanted to thank all of you for your continued support and just for listening when Im' complaining and just needed to vent. FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION! :cursing:
  9. Welcome to the journey Korilynn...this is a great site for information and support. Good luck to you as you begin your new life. I can't say its been easy, but getting the Lapband saved my life and changed it forever. Its helped change my 3 grown childrens habits...so hopefully they will never have to face the same problems I had prior to surgery. If you have any questions this is a great forum. Best Wishes, keep us informed of your progress!! ~Christy :frown:
  10. I lost alot of hair about my 4th month....I would talk to your Doctor...maybe even do a Blood Draw to see where all your Vitamin levels are at. Most likely your not getting the proper amount of protein though....very common.
  11. So sorry, please take care of yourself and get plenty of rest...you will be back on track in no time!!

Congratulation...Whoo whoo...embrace the new you that is emerging. Keep up that Fabulous work!!
  13. Not everyone "fits" into the broad spectrum of the BMI Chart. My Doctor took all my physical attributes when deciding what weight was good for me. I'm 5'8, and with the help of my Lapband have lost 130 lbs. I'm a very lean 168 lbs...according the Charts still overweight, but my Doc says I don't need to lose anymore. I recommend to everyone to not define what your ideal weight should be, just by the BMI Chart...but also consult your Doctor. Best of Luck!!
  14. I can't speak for the coughing, but if your feeling nauseated or vomitting (or dry heaves) call your Doctor for medication...and if needed unfill your band. I just had a horrible experience with the Flu which landed me in the ER for 2 days on IV Phenergan, slipped band on the 3rd day...Emergency Surgery...and 3 days in the hospital after surgery. I didn't think my band could slip so far out, almost 18 months for me. Its just not worth having to go through something so traumatic. Hope you get feeling better soon!!
  15. I suggest trying a different protein drink...its so important, and will really help to keep you satisfied so you don't feel like your starving. There are so many different brands out there...so don't give up. The liquid phase is the toughest, it does get better. Stay strong...YOU CAN DO THIS, and soon you will be on your way and this will be a distant memory. Good luck....it will get better! ~Christy

Love this post....I am going through the same thing...its like my body temperature has a broken thermostat, and doesn't know what to do. I moved to WA in May...used to live in NV (was always HOT) and when we went back to Vegas, NV to visit my son it was 95 outside and I was perfectly comfortable in the heat...it was perfect. Winter is approaching here in Seattle, WA and I'm walking around feeling like a popsicle 99% of the time. Guess we will see how this all pans out :cursing:) Best of luck to you! ~Christy
  17. If your constantly hungry...look at what you are eating...protein is so important, and definetely helps keep you satisfied between meals. Also look at your calories, I stalled out because I wasn't getting enough nutrition. I realized that your body needs fuel to burn. Personally for me, I need about 1100 calories a day, or I plateau and won't lose an ounce. Hope this helps some of you while your starting out your journey...Best of luck to all of you!! ~ Christy
  18. Are you measuring your food?? My Doc recommended 3oz or protein at each meal...and I find if I don't get my protein at each meal I'm starving in between. I hope you find your sweet spot soon!! Best wishes!!
  19. Every time I have this test done...constipation something awful. It also makes me a little nauseated...just because it tastes so bad. Best of luck!!

Today was my first day on the Phentermine...I am still a little in shock...guess I didn't really expect it to work. I had to remind myself to eat ) I'll take it...so much better than feeling like I'm starving all day. Ahhh now I feel like I can handle this until I get back to my sweet spot ) without stressing. It may not be for everyone, and they may not agree...but this is my journey afterall, I have to do what works for me. Thanks for the support

So I'm about 5 weeks out since my surgery for my slipped band and I have to admit I'm now struggling. Hunger has definetely kicked in....FULL FORCE. I talked to my Doctor (PCP) today about being put on an appetite suppressant until I'm back to my sweet spot with my fills...last thing I want is to gain the weight back. Call me weak if you want, but I can't do it without help...and my Doctor agreed to put me on Phentermine for 3 months. I'm working out twice a day to balance out the food I'm eating to keep the scale down...and so far so good, but its causing me major anxiety. I start the Phentermine tomorrow...I sure hope this helps me through this rough spot. I will definetely let you all know how it goes. FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!!
  23. I'm an insured bander...costing me only $250 for office paperwork fee and $15 copays for my fills. I don't think it matters whether your self pay or insured to be successful. I know when I started this journey, the choice was to "save my life"....Failure is not an option...and continued success is now a learned behavior. Its been an overall lifestyle change. I can honestly say for myself, I would have the same success if I had to pay for the surgery without insurance.
  24. I had no problems with Humana approving my surgery, it went right through. I also had done diets and such with my Primary Care Doctor...who also helped with my claim. Your surgeon will also help too...but it helps if PCP is on board. Good Luck
  25. Remember to be patient during the first 6 weeks, concentrate more on your body healing...the success will come with time. Keep on making positive choices and you will succeed. I know sometimes it seems like a slow process, but its so worth it in the end. Stay strong!!
