I called Medica City hospital in Dallas:bandit and they said the band was $19,000.00

I just got this bill from Medical City in Dallas and this does not include the surgens costs. $44,775.00 :omg: WOW, Not having had surgery in a very very long time I guess I did not ask the right people or the right questions before the lap band surgery. Not that I would necessarily changed my mind but I thought I did thorough research before I made the decision to have the surgery but I would have been prepared for the hospital bill. The surgery was covered, in part, by my insurance but you need to find out what that means from your own insurance if covered. When I asked the doctors office what my costs would be once they informed me of my approval they gave me an amount that I can only guess was just for the doctors services and not the hospitals, so I know now. So you may have an idea of the costs, here is what my hospital bill says the charges are for the day surgery for the lap band. I am not sure what they all mean so if anyone knows feel free to respond. I have left the cents off just to make it easier and have to make jest of some of it. 4 units pharmacy iv solutions $911.00 2 units Med/surg supplies gen $969.00 Your guess is as good as mine. 2 units supply/implants $23,567.00 -I thought they just put in one lap-band, I must have 2. 1 units Rad dx-general $786.00 4 units Anesthesia-general $2,423.00 Should have just hit me in the head with a hammer or drank a 1/5 of vodka. 14 units Pharmacy-general 1,215.00 I don’t recall receiving 14 of anything. 1 units pharmacy-other $49.00 This might have been for the shot of liquid pain meds after the surgery. Worth every penny. 4 units Med/surg sterile supply $1,717.00 How much for the non sterile? 2 units lab-chemistry $146.00 4 units or-general surgery $11,050.00 I just wanted one surgery not 4, maybe for the 4 holes they put in me. 3 units recovery room 1,936.00 I only was in one bed

I agree, I was hungry most the time until I added the protein powder. In the morning I make a 20oz drink consisting of 1 12oz Atkins protein shake, 8 oz skim milk and 1 scoop of protein powder. I drink this slowly throughout the day when I am at work and it really seam to help me with the hunger. Dinner at evening time is the time I seam to be hungry the most. I have not figured that one out yet. That use to be my biggest meal of the day and it could all be in my mind. I was banded on Nov 3oth and still on liquids with addition of oatmeal, scrambled eggs, grits, mashed potatoes, refired beans in addition to a few other items. Regular food does not come into play with my diet until Dec 28th and my first fill will be on Jan 4th. Doctors vary greatly on diets. Not sure why. Banded Nov 30th. Tom in Dallas

They meet at a conference room that is just to the left when you are entering the cafeteria at Medical city. There is a door and you have to open it. I am not sure it is marked. I have been on liquids and even the low carb protein drinks. You would think the weight would be flying off but its not. I am diabetic so the doc says it is harder to loose the weight. I have been told that the goal at this stage is to heal. Once that is done and you get fills to adjust the band so you can eat foods and feel full and loosing 2 to 3 lbs a month. I did loose 10lbs on the pre-op diet but not much since then. Tom

Mine was Nov 30th. Medical city by Dr Jayaseelan On the following Monday I was going to go back to work but stayed home till Tuesday. I still did not feel 100% for the whole week. Don't let yourself get dehydrated. I was allowed to drink gatoraide. I know someone who got dehydrated after day surgery and had to go back into the hospital for almost a week. I was week for the whole week and started to add a protein powder along with the low cal protein shakes. It was suggested to get at least 80gs protein a day. I started getting more engery after that. I still have some soreness but it is getting better. They say that where they put the port is going to be sore the longest due since they stitch the port to the muscle at that location. Tom

I just had mine on Nov 30th in Dallas and back to work today Dec 5th. Except for a little pain I am feeling and getting around fine. I did the pain meds around the clock for the first 3 days then just at night now. Everyone is different but I have talked to alot of people and they have had simular experience. My Doc wanted me up and walking for 5 mins every hour after surgery and extending that time as you can.

I was banded on Thurday November 30th. Medical City Hospital in Dallas, Texas DR. Jayaseelan. Returned to work today Tuesday Dec 5th. Could have come back Monday but felt I needed an extra day to recoup. Was abt 320pds but lost some on the liquid diet. Not sure I have an exact weight to reach, I want to loose enough to maybe get off or reduce the diabetic drugs and blood pressue drugs. A guess would be about 100 lbs. So far everything looks like it went well. I was glad to be able to add creamed soups and tomato juice after the surgery. The chicken and beef broth was getting old. Each doctor is alittle different on things. I only did the liquid diet for a week before surgery, I hear some do 2 weeks. Now I do 2 weeks more of liquids then can add a few soft foods. I am a little nervious about complications and a little freaked about having something un-natural inside of me. Is that normal?
