  1. Hi, I'm 6 years with my band. I attended 4 evening classes before visiting the bariatric center in the twin cities. I phoned my insurance company to ask for a doctor who did many (over 100 surgeries). (1) Surgeon with good track record. (2) Complete work up with my GP required. (3) Mental test with correct doctor. (4) Class with Nutritionist. And finally, (5) Surgeon with a university student as assistant. I love my band. I don't think I would be alive if I hadn't had my band placed. I am no longer diabetic. My blood pressure is good. I am HEALTHY!
  2. You will do fine. Keep walking & walking. The gas will go away. Talk to your bariatric center and follow their suggestions. Keep us posted. . .
  3. This is the kind of post I love to read. I am also beginning on the next leg of my losing journey. I've lost my "zone" by overeating. Now I'm cutting my meals in 1/2 to shrink & find my sweet spot. Wish me good roads ahead . . and pray for few potholes. . . .. . . .
  4. Welcome to our forum! I am a member of the "Happy Banders": I would not ever have mine removed. It is a part of me, it tells me when I have eaten enough. I eat my noon meal at our local senior center & many times I put down my fork after a few bites and just tell myself "you feel full". Sometimes I put what is left in a container to take home (for my supper, the dog or the disposal) and occasionally just leave the leftovers to be discarded there. I was always a member of the "clean your plate club" and this was hard to do when I first started my inner communication with my LapBand. Wishing a healthy future to all Lap Band Carriers!
  5. Wishing you the best of health and you find your satiety easily. Lap Banding is the way to go!
  6. I wish I could visit with the daughter who upset you. Maybe give her the Lap Band booklet and ask her to not speak negative /or if not positive to remain quiet. I have one negative son who remains quiet (& he is overweight!). Every time I mention a cold or headache he thinks it is my Band. (But now he is silent and it does keep me from asking for sympathy for every little pain. Good huh? I remember when my parents had hours of conversations in regard to their health & it did get boring. Ha!) Anyway, we are here for you & you can talk to us. This sight has some very nice folks checking in and we are in your boat. Happiness & Good health to you in your banding journey.
  7. Welcome and good going to a healthy future!
  8. Good Morning, I also have the same problem. What I have done in the past is not to say or think "diet". I eat at a location where my plate is filled for me. So I put 1/2 in a carryout before I eat a bite, so I'm only eating half of the quantity I ate the day before. I take this home for the refrigerator. (I either eat this at another meal or feed the dog or disposal. ha!) After a few days my stomach (pouch) has shrunk a bit and I'm no longer hungry. Then I begin to listen for my body signals that says "enough". When my stomach (pouch) is enlarged I don't get messages and that's when I overeat. This eating half as much really works but you will be tempted for a few days, especially at night. This has happened to me several times as I had my Band placed 7 years ago. (My only worry is that my stomach (pouch) will not shrink back to where it was the first few years.) If you have to do the cooking the smaller plate & tiny cutlery would be an option. Wishing you good health.
  9. Didn't you have a Bariatric Center to call when they sent you home as an out-patient? If not, that doctor & surgery center should be reported. You should have had more comfort assistance! This is why I would never go to Mexico or to some hole in the wall place for Lap Band placement. My insurance company would like to know about bad follow-up on their policy holders before covering claims!
  10. Congratulations! I had no problems having my band placed. I would not part with it now it is a part of me. . .
  11. What is a Slimband patient?
  12. You've said it all. Have a happy healthy future and hoping you LOVE your band as I LOVE mine!
  13. I don't want to talk about mine to anyone but close family. Otherwise everyone is watching as you eat. Close family will be more educated on the yes & no's of what is happening. You will be so pleased with this tool, you will want to shout it out, but as time goes on you will be judged as you eat in public. This is just my 2 cents worth of advise to you. . . . .good luck & healthy happy days ahead!
  14. The best of luck to you. To add my 2 cents to your story, I would suggest you not talk about this to anyone but family. Once all your friends know they will watch & judge. You will be the only one recording your nutrition, and if you want to substitute a taste of something (for other foods) it should be only your business. I take cake & mess around slowly and act too full, no one notices I did not clean my plate, then the plate goes to disposal & we don't have to talk about it! Go girl & healthy happy future to you..................
  15. Are you walking? Eat only 1/2 meal & walk, walk & walk. Breath deep & relax. Emotions & tense body do something too. My Dr is clear across the State, and is a day of travel, so I try to do some things myself before running to the bariatric center. Good going. . .don't give up!
  16. I have a question. What would cause a Band to leak? The seminars I attended before being banded it sounded like they had a "copyright" or whatever the word is, maybe "patented". (The samples they had they spoke of them being foolproof, safe & etc.)
  17. That is why they require all the tests prior to Lap Band Surgery. In our state there are only 3 hospitals that my insurance will qualify to cover Banding. ( Also why going to Mexico for "cheap" is dangerous.) Go with a happy thought and relax. You are heading for a healthy life
  18. Great going! You kept at it until you found the problem. We Banders wish you smooth sailing into the future. . . keep us posted.
  19. You have been through so much! I wish you well on this new procedure. It sounds like a good option, and Banders will be interested in how this new placement works for you. Please keep us tuned in as you progress along. Be looking forward to a healthy future. .
  20. Terrific! You are on the path to good health, keep your eyes on the road and life will be great. .
  21. I think this forum is where I will add my 2 cents into the conversation. I had had my band placed in 2006 and did very well until my mammogram showed breast cancer in 2012. Then I had the saline withdrawn from my band before my cancer operation. I am now "cancer free" and have been living with the band and trying to lose with no fill. The winter months went well but when spring arrived and all the outdoor activities boosted my appetite! I've gained too fast and would like to get back on my band wagon. It is soooo hard, now I'm going to have to ask for a refill, I guess.
  22. It took me a week to find it by trial & error. Look to the right side of the subject page where you can click an action. Also you will need to page down a long way on the scenic backgrounds to go on to the next choice. Whoever designed this program was not too savvy.
  23. Congratulations! One year into good health.
  24. Congratulations! Great going to better health. . . keep on your path. . .
