Band to Sleeve Revision
Did u go through this? How do u feel. Are you able to eat? I'm so scared of hairloss too... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App No, I haven't but I have seen and talked to a lot of people who has gone through it. When I went to my check up at my bariatric center, I spoke to one girl who said she cried every day since her revision, poor thing . Yeah, I'm worried about hairloss too. I didn't go through it with my band because the weightloss wasn't as drastic, a normal 2-3 lbs a week or slower... So I'm a little worried this time around because our calories are sooo much lower.I have only loss 15 pounds in six weeks so my weightloss is not to drastic but they said it would happen because of the stomach hormones loss. Yea I cry alot and I don't know what to do to make it better. How far was the girl in the group post op? I don't know why this is so hard. Thanks for listening Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App No problem at all. Anytime. I didn't know about the hormones and hair, I only knew about the Vitamin deficiency and too fast weight loss by being anorexic when I was young. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App Neon anorexia?? Yea they say at 2 yrs a person with a sleeve should be able to get enough Vitamins through there food. Band to Sleeve Revision
*hugs* Change is often scary, and since I have issues with food as well, I can understand that. For me, food has always been my comforter. I still go to online OA meetings from time to time to find emotional support since I haven't told anyone about my surgeries either. I've thought of seeing a therapist just to make sure I maintain my inner peace, but although I've been carrying the name around since surgery, I haven't called yet. Mainly cause sometimes it can be expensive, depending upon my insurance. I did watch a neat video the other day where a Dr. did a quick video on how the Sleeve is the most natural of all WLS, and it was calming. If you'd like me to post it, let me know. Either way, we're here for you too. Thank you. I havent seen any videos like that and like I said my dr made it seem like u will be normal just everything is in small portion. I have some regrets and have decided to see a therapist I am on an emotional Rollercoaster. I cry I'm frustrated and I am still trying to enjoy life. I know people say the hardest is day one through 6 months but at this point I'm not sure what to think. I am not trying to be a debbie downer or anything like that because I am usually pretty peppy and out going but lately I'm just . Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App Nah, not a debbie downer, I see a lot of people like that here and you're just going through real emotions, which is totally normal. I'm glad you're going to see a therapist. I'm still debating but I know in my younger days, it helped me learn some good coping skills. Here is the link to that video. It may be boring or you already know all this but some reason I really enjoyed it. I loved his gastric sleeve book too. I just read that recently. https://www.facebook.com/thesupportsurgeon/videos/629921133836325/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE

What is your favorite snack?
I've been into homemade milk kefir for years (excellent natural probiotic source), and I like have a little of that with some blueberries or another type of fruit. If one has never tried it, it's like a drinkable yogurt, a little more sour though.

Spicy food?
I eat spicy foods (really really spicy hehe). I like sour and spicy stuff, and don't care for anything sweet. I have no issue with it at all. My surgeon said that's fine as long as I can tolerate it too, so whew. I do take famotidine 20mg twice a day as per my surgeon.

genepro vs isopure
I like Genepro. Been using it for a long time as practically my sole protein source, mixes with everything. My labs came out great (i.e. Total serum, Albumin/Globulin) every time so I keep using it. In the past, I have written the company to ask for some data on a particular lot I bought but to no avail. As I said in a prior thread, maybe they just don't want to give out any hints of their purification process. I can understand that since their product is quite different than most protein sources out there. I use it when what I naturally eat that day doesn't hit my protein mark, it comes quite handy (soups, drinks, hot or cold). Nature's best Isopure (lots of other companies as well) was part of a class action suit for protein spiking and misrepresenting the concentration of their protein. Personally, I never tried the unflavored, so I wouldn't know about the miscibility aspect of it.

Dehydration question
Check the color of your urine, if it's too dark, then you're dehydrated. There are color charts on the net that may help you out. Dry mouth, confusion, headache, irritability, being tired are some symptoms. I have problems sometimes because I have to take water pills due to an existing edema problem so I have to drink tons now to make up for that. I wish you well, please go to the ER if you do find it hard to think or you develop some of the severe symptoms. Dehydration can put your kidneys and health at risk.

Still thinking about the change.
Yeah, I thought about that too but I went ahead and had the revision done. I was very attached to my band. I thought exactly what you posted when I thought of a revision surgery. I know someone who had the bypass around the same time as my band, and now they are twice as heavy. I initially went in for a fill since I've been traveling, working and moving, I hadn't seen a fill doctor for a couple of years since I was still doing well and losing with the level of Fluid I had. So when I finally made an appointment with my current bariatric center, just to check my fluid level, and maybe get more added, they suggested the revision, and an unfill right then due to an enlarged esophagus (Too tight again, 2nd time for me). Gasp! I wasn't a happy camper because I knew I was going to gain some weight back once they unfill me. No way, I just want a fill please. Um, no can do... Either rest my band for months again and get refilled & struggle to find that sweet spot again or rest my band and get a revision. That's why I opted for the revision so I wouldn't go through the weight gain-weight loss cycle again since I had a habit of being too tight. I was still working to get to goal again after my first enlarged esophagus episode. I almost didn't go through with it. I'm happy with the results, the physical sensation that I get from the sleeve vs the band when I eat, as well as the weight loss results so far. I'm 24 days post-op and I'm down 22 lbs, and it's been relatively easy staying on program. Haven't thrown up or slimed yet. I guess from the band all these years, I know when to stop. That familiar pressure in the back of our throat... Stop or else. ^^ But, having said that, It is all very new to me though so check back in a few months lol. Since you're at goal, does your doctor still want you to have a revision, do you have issues with your band? Either way, hope it works out for you.

Smokers
As much as I love vaping, and how much better I feel since the switch years ago... If one can just quit cold turkey and never go back, that is just awesome. The money spent is real too. Lol coffee, a caramel green apple vape and knitting gives me the "Je ne sais quoi" daily pleasure. Thank goodness I never cared for alcohol, it makes me nauseous. For that I'm thankful. Wound opened
Same here. My main incision (after the staples were removed), isn't quite healing properly as well. The scab came out one night and to my surprise, it's about a 1/8" depth too. Looks like a deep gash and it's not quite healing, and the worse part is it's right at my waistline so my pants are irritating it. All my other incisions are healed almost completely as I'm on day 24. I've been putting lots of Neosporin on it and a big bandage over it, and I tried to call my doctor today but they are closed on the weekends. I'm going to call first thing tomorrow. I hope you can get yours fix and your cut improves.

Keeping It in Perspective: Has WLS Made You More Patient?
I'm a calm person by nature... Not many things bother me. I have so many hobbies and am constantly busy doing things I enjoy. I'm all about family and generally prefer a good book over company. I think WLS through the years taught me self-love more than anything. I am always hard on myself but easy on others... A perfectionist but only expect those standards from myself. So now thinking about, it has taught me patience in that regard. Great post, Alex. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Smokers
Probably would be safer but like caffeine, some doctors say it's ok and others say no until your stomach is healed. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Smokers
Ah yeah, I forgot about that. The first week, you'll be coughing, it's just your lungs expelling all the gunk that built up through the years of smoking. It gets better.

Smokers
Was a pack a day smoker 6 years ago. I switched to vaping after some ER visits, the beginning of possible COPD, had terrible asthma. Once I started vaping, I never went to the ER ever again. In fact, because of the PG in my mixture (usually make my own), it's antibacterial. I think in 6 years I've had the flu a few times. Never got bronchitis again. I just had a zillion tests last few months to prep for my sleeve surgery: sleep study, Barium swallow, Endoscopy, EKG & Stress test, Echo cardiogram, Respiratory evaluation, Pulmonary function, Nuclear stress test and Nuclear Heart scan, Pre-Op blood and Urine work, Chest X-ray. Everything was perfect. The one that surprised me was my chest x-ray. They said my lungs were perfect and no sign of any damage from the past as well as my respiratory and pulmonary function tests were perfect. I was really happy but I kind of figured just because the way I feel vs the way I used to feel when I smoked. There is a great documentary concerning saving a billion lives (cigs to vape) that is just being released now. They have a FB page with the information #ABillionLives.

How Many Servings of Fruits and Vegetables Do You Get Each Day?
Throughout the years with my band, I always had plenty of fruit and veggies in my diet. Every morning I had a fruit smoothie with fresh fruits and veggies. I also had the rule that if I got hungry, no matter what time, I could snack on a guava or blueberries... Etc. It worked out really well, weight-wise, skin & hair-wise, health-wise. Right now since I just had a sleeve revision, I have to focus on Protein and Water but as I progress, I'll eventually go back to my balanced diet. As of now, I make sure I get at least one serving of fruit in my morning shake, along with veggies blended in. If I don't have fruits in my diet, my weight stalls. With fruit, and under 1400 cal/day, I can consistently and easily drop weight. Right now I'm averaging only 600 cal/day and losing about the same but on so little food... So I look forward to more fruit & veggies in my diet again. That's just me though. Everybody is different. Whatever works hehe.

Best veggies for puréed stage?
I just made some cauliflower pizzas. They were very good. I didn't put any meat on the top, just made them with mozzarella cheesy goodness. There are a lot of recipes for them but here is one of them: http://weightwise.com/recipe-cauliflower-crust-pizza/ Here's the one I used. I just found it. http://barixclinics.com/blog/recipe-cauliflower-pizza/

Stage 3. Purée
For my work, I have to travel a lot so the things I've had, depending upon the type of cuisine, are Soups (soft noodles are ok as per my nurse), oatmeal/cream of wheat/grits (breakfast), refried Beans with cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy... Etc. Anything mushy really. I've always been an a la carte girl, but even more so now. pureed phase isn't the healthiest phase but our focus is on protein/water at that stage.

Drinking around meals?
With the band, sometimes I had to wait over an hour. Then again, I was often too tight. With the sleeve, 30 min. is one of the main rules as per my nurses/surgeon.

6 month requirement for revision?
For me, having the band since 09 was enough for them. They just needed proof of any current issues with my band (minor but it was the 2nd time my band was too tight and my esophagus was dilated). Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Who decides surgery type?
Back in 2009, I picked the lap band, but in 2016 my new doctor suggested a revision to sleeve. I am happy with his suggestion and am happy with the surgery so far. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
