  1. Oh, ahahaha!! I get it now! Guess I should look at those too cuz the scale isn't..... well, as least I'm not gaining. Guess I'd better look at is as glass 1/2 full! I scale I have, I bought yeeeeears ago (as a matter of fact, I just ran to look at it - it's a 'Health-o-Meter' and there's a tiny sticker on the back that say 2002...runs on a lithium (?) battery and haven't had to change it, ever. Wouldn't know how either! It's big & heavy, made of glass and has a LCD read-out. I like it much better than the traditional ones as, it tells you that it is what it is. No room for interpreting - if you're 200, you're 200. Paid about $70 I think? I really like it. The whey Protein isolate I get is from the States - a company called nutribio.com. Someone on these boards recommended them, nothing but favourable reviews, and even with the exchange & shipping it's still very reasonable @ around $32 for 2 lbs. of it. The isolate is more expensive than the whey protein blends you see, say, at Walmart, but you're getting a higher quality protein when you get whey protein isolate. The nearest GNS to me is in North Bay and theirs is so much more expensive. I've had the strawberry and it is delicious! Just today, I order another 2 lbs., this time the banana one. I'll let you know how that one is. But I highly recommend nutribio.com! Maybe there's a difference between new baby potatoes, which I had trouble with and older, starchier ones, but we'll see what happens at Thanksgiving with mashed & gravy! Wow for you! Almost 40 lbs. down! That's fabulous!!! :smile2:
  2. Congratulations Polly!! Good for you!! Er....what are nsv's? I've been trying to figure out what that means! I'm in the same size uniform pants only they aren't stretched out as much (I think!) I'm still not at my sweet spot yet (damn it!) And I've only gone down a 1/2 lb. in like 2 wks. I've noticed the hair loss too. I don't worry too much about it as I have a ton of hair but when I brush it out or take a hair clip out, there is lots! I still have about 10 Meditrim left but I have a scoop of Whey Protein Isolate in a cup of skim milk and a cup of frozen berries (blueberries, strawberries, whatever's on sale!) and 2 tsp. of Splenda in the morning. I always remember the 'protein first' rule. My list of 'can't have'-s is ever expanding! Tried to have some very thinly sliced chorizo sausage today and nope! Too dry. Up it came. Pork chops, no matter how well done they are, even in a sauce or gravy, are difficult too. Rye bread? Nope. Made a bean Soup and put some left-over boiled potatoes in it - not a good idea. Can't do boiled potatoes very well either. With those kind of limitations, you'd think the scale would move! I am thrilled for you! Keep me in the loop on your progress!!
  3. Hi Polly! Glad you feel you're at your sweet spot! Got my 2nd. fill on Friday - 4.9 cc's altogether....got stuck a couple of times too! I sorta/kinda guage my fill success on how a week day goes....whether I'm hungry as soon as I get home from work and how much I eat for supper and after. Had some tuna & Beans so far today, and of course my fruit & whey Protein shake for Breakfast. I'm not hungry for dinner yet....(5:30 PM) so I'm having a wee Scotch for happy hour. Has the scale started to move again for you??? Hope so!
  4. Good term, Polly - "....don't need the discouragement right now..." Glad to hear you're where you want to be cuz that where I want to be - is where you are. Haven't heard from the nurse yet so I guess she hasn't got her needles. What the.....?? Just wondering to myself, that if she is the nurse for the area, why would she let herself run out of needles....oh well.... Dug through closets & storage today and found a whole whack of stuff I'd forgotten I had! Almost like Easter Egg hunting LOLOL!! Except, I can't find the 1 pair of black jeans I was looking for. Hopefully I didn't send them to Value Village by mistake!! I looked everywhere, twice!!
  5. Broke 200 lbs. (by a 1/2 lb.) at 8 wks. post op. My own statistics (via fitday.com) show I haven't been under 200 lbs. since March 2008! Waiting on my nurse to get her needles in, for my 2nd. fill. Hope that will be early next week. Have a great weekend, all! Bibi
  6. LOL cjf - I've found the clothes I put away many lbs. less ago, but am too chicken to try them on yet! I hear ya' about not wanting to buy anything right now...there's a lot of stuff put away that was barely worn before I out-grew them! Luckily I wear a uniform to work and live in yoga clothes and pj's the rest of the time! Keep in touch!
  7. Sorry to hear about your loss, Pollywogg - and in 7 weeks, oh my.....:alien: I am on my feet, lifting and carrying and walking all day long in my job so exercising after work just doesn't appeal to me LOL! I do have an elliptical set up in my computer room/office at home so anytime I feel like listening to videos on YouTube, I hop on it - for usually 5-8 minutes. By then, the pain of my torn meniscus and acl takes over so I have to stop. Tomorrow I will be 8 wks. post-op (already!) and will weigh myself tomorrow morning so I will have a go at it tonight! Hopefully I will have broken the 200 lb. mark.....doubtful though.... Take care and keep in touch.
  8. How are things going, pollywogg & cjf? I am at a virtual standstill!! Next (2nd.) fill will be scheduled for early next week as nurse is waiting on needles and referral from SWLC.
  9. Good to hear! I've gotten 'stuck' a couple of times, a couple of days in a row. Can't do bagels, kolbassa, jalapeno poppers, and have now discovered not even cole slaw, well chewed. It's been a slow go since my 1st. fill 2 wks. ago....lost 1 lb. since. I'm debating if I'll give myself a bit more time before my next fill....things are so erratic for me! Some days, I am content, others I can graze all evening and not feel full....still trying to read myself. :blushing:
  10. Yes, I have, So Done....just have to go there more regularly. Thanks again for the tip!
  11. I am quickly compiling a list of foods I get stuck easily on: 1) bagels - plain or toasted, not good 2) ham kolbassa - no matter how much I chew, not good 3) anything cold out of the fridge - had a fish fry over the weekend and had a small piece of left-over fish to nibble on....am just now still wretching over it. Have to admit....LAP-BAND®® sure keeps you honest! Gotta go.........
  12. Yes. 'So Done With it all', thanks for the info! We newbies can be skeptics! Good luck, Polly...I'll hang in and see what SWLC says too. Keep in touch, All!!!
  13. Yes, Polly, they only prescribed a 1/2 cc - for $75!! And feel I need more. She said wait a couple of weeks and call SWLC if I'm not happy and they will prescribe more. So you feel that a 1/2 cc was a joke? ~Sigh.....~ Glad you 2 girls are where you want to be fill-wise! Keep me posted!
  14. Hi CJF! I bet you we go to the same RN for our fills. She pulled out about 4 but only added a 1/2.....am wondering, what was the point as I don't feel any different. Even had a 100 calorie packet of Smart food white cheddar popcorn last night before bed! (Thank God for those portion controlled Lean Cuisine & 100 calorie Snacks, huh!) Did you have to pay again even though it was such a short time in between fills? Congrats on your weight moving again. I am looking forward to that too. She told me to wait about 2 weeks then contact SWLC again. She has some good advice. I told her my downfall was the grazing on weekends at the cottage.....she says that and the wine of course, will always be a problem and try to avoid it. Even though it's like hummus & Triscuits, it's excess calories you don't really consider. Yes, it's all about the behaviour modification.
  15. I have my fill tomorrow morning at 8:30. Thanks for the good wishes! Omg, I hope it goes well for you - that's a heck of a drive for all that aggravation. I was told there were only 2 sizes of bands and that mine was the smaller of the 2 (which didn't tell me anything!) My burger patties were butcher-shop made and I'm guessing they were 5 oz. each pre-cooked. Doesn't matter anyway. Was PMS-ing last night and ate all 3 for a bedtime snack; not at the same time mind you but over the course of the evening. Chewed them really well, but still got me thinking....it's time for a fill! When I over-eat, it's not really junk, it's just that I get hungry a couple of hours after a meal. Be sure to post tomorrow nite after your fill and good luuuuuuuuck!!
  16. WB Polly! So you 2 girls have had fills already. A nurse from SWLC finally got ahold of me & gave me the info on who to contact for fills. I am very surprised, Polly that your GP is learning on you. I was told that SWLC personally trains everyone they get to do fills on their behalf. Did you call SWLC and let them know your fill didn't go very well? Yikes!! I was told that I already have 3-4 cc in my band already. Didn't know that either! I had a left-over BBQ'd hamburger patty from the weekend for my luch at work today, but when I was looking for a calorie count for it, all I could find (presuming that it was 5 oz. frozen) was a value of almost 400 calories. Could that really be? Yikes again!
  17. Congrats, cjf on breaking the 191 mark! I put a call into the nurses @ SWLC on Friday to make arrangements to get a fill done but they didn't call me back. I'm 2 lbs. away from getting under 200 since April 2008! The only grazing I did this weekend was on whole wheat Tostitos and hummus. And a couple of low carb beer & a couple glasses of red wine. Ah the Island life! So you are having trouble feeling full even with a fill? That's discouraging.....
  18. Had a phone consult with a nutritionist yesterday from SWLC. My only concern was how dark my urine has been even though drinking at least 36 oz. of water/fluid a day. We'll consult again by phone September 20th. Haven't had a fill yet....I'll be calling a nurse to set up an appointment for one. I was surprised to get on the scale this morning to see I've lost a total of 5 lbs. this week. With everyone away still for the summer, it's much easier portion control-wise to toss a PC Blue Menu frozen dinner (which have been on sale for $1.88 each) in the microwave for dinner with a cup of cooked spinach. Different story when at the cottage every weekend. Not that I'm eating badly there, really. I just find I'm still in my bad habit of grazing.
  19. Well, I'm going to try that then! I watch the clock to try and follow the 15/45 rule. The 15 before is ok, it's the 45 minutes after! Got my stitch out today! The nurses at my dr.'s office are such a cheer leading section LOL!! So??? Where did you get your fill done? I have a phone consult with a nutritionist from the SWLC on Thursday morning. Did you do that before your fill? They are awful secretive about when I get my first fill! How do you feel? Have you eaten people food yet or are you doing shakes for a bit. Thought about you this weekend when I was in Sheg! We should get together sometime! I ate better and more cautiously this weekend....wasn't as famished as I was last weekend. The email correspondence I had with the nutritionist made me understand that the swelling is probably gone down which is making me feel more hungry.
  20. Back from the cottage....had a good weekend....only 2 low carb beer and 1 glass of wine. Had roasted chicken drumsticks, fresh green and yellow beans; a scant 1/4 c. potato salad (too heavy). Had a Lean Cuisine panini for supper tonight and 10 seedless grapes. I find my biggest obstacle is not having something to drink after a meal. I really feel like a sip or 2 to wash things down.
  21. Finally lost another 1/2 lb. since last Thursday. Not as voraciously hungry like a few days ago but have psyched myself up to really make all my calories count to feel full. I have a phone consult on Aug 19 with a nutritionist from SWLC. I was watching Tommy Europe on the Last 10 Pounds boot camp the other night and the nutritionist on the show told the camper that her 1/2 a glass of wine a day consumption amounts to 10,000 calories/month which = a gain of 3 lbs. a month! That sounds suspiciously like me (before Lap Band)! Never looked at it that way.
  22. That is close!!! What a small world!!! I can't believe how much I ate again today....1300 calories! I think I had better call SWLC and set up a fill. It will only be 3 wks. on Friday and I can only think my band may have slipped. I'm so frustrated...especially gaining 2 lbs. since last Wednesday.
  23. Funny you should ask! I actually timed the discomfort - at least 9 minutes. Then I get on the scale today and I'm up 2 lbs. I'm so bummed about that! Vino is my enemy!!! And I just finished supper (1 small piece of 7 layer salad) and I'm still hungry....:cool2: Think it's time for me to consider a fill. pollywogg, you were brave to have corn! Good for you! Looks as though I can't do tuna burgers very well. Must be they're a bit dry. Even with much chewing it is dry going down on its own and makes me hiccup every time afterwards. :tt2:
  24. Yes, darn long weekends. I started my Meditrim fast on the Friday of the long weekend in July....pretty boring at the cottage unable to bbq something or have a nice cold beer. So made up for it this weekend. And you're right - I did feel naughty but then when I input my food into fitday.com, I wasn't actually much over 1,000 calories today. Will see tomorrow morning when I get on the scale for the first time since last Wednesday. OMG cjf, I just noticed you are in Sheg??? Our cottage is down there! Small world!!!
