I got the call today from the doctor's office that I was approved! after such a shittty week I was very surprised that something actually went my way! Anyways, I am trying to figure out when to schedule my surgery....how long were you out of school/work once you had the lap band??

Just got the call from the doctors office that I was approved for surgery! Wooooooooo hoooooo! I had a crappy week so I was thrilled when I heard this!!!!!!!!! How long were you out of work for?

I am very nervous, hoping to be approved by my insurance company...all of my paperwork was submitted wednesday or thursday. they told me it should take 5-10 days to hear back form them. After spending the weekend at the lake in a tank top and shorts I am so ready to have this done and begin a new lifestyle. It's really uncomfortable when I am only 20 years old and can't even wear a bathing suit. All of my friends have cute bodies and run around in their bikinis...sucks for me. I am so tired of being "the fat girl." sorry for the vent

I regards to personally... -Did you shave downstairs? (I have never had surgery so I am a little curious as to what the process of it all is like) -I am a little nervous of just getting naked in front of a doctor. (i know they see it all the time but I don't) -What was it like when you woke up from surgery?

So yesterday was the last of my mandatory doctor appointments. I have met with the surgeon, the nutritionist, the psychologist and have had a UGI and cardiac clearance. I am now ANXIOUSLY waiting for approval from my insurance company. All of my paperwork should be submitted any time now....I was told to gain a few pounds to get my BMI above a 40, (it was a 39.5) and I successfully gained the weight! (imagine that haha) Questions: -How long did it take for you to get approval from your insurance company? -How much time did you take off work? -how much would you guess that you spend on food a month?

I think this would be a great idea. What stage of the journey are we all in. I am pre-op and am currently sitting in my last appt. Before my paperwork is sent off to the insurance company. I'm very nervous/excited.

Awesome post! 1. to be able to slip on a cute tank top or sun dress and actually look cute 2. to have my boyfriend be able to pick me up and feel cute....not like i am going to knock him over (especially when he's 6'4 and 350 pounds) 3. to take pictures without having to hide behind everyone

A co worker of mine has the lap band and was told not to drink carbonated drinks either.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with people's negative opinions. My aunt and I were just discussing this yesterday because I asked her not to tell anyone. She said to me, "I won't tell anyone if you don't want me to. However, I think this a great decision that you are making for you, not anyone else. Be proud of the decision you have made, and if any one has a problem with it then eff them" haha it made me happy because it's true. you could be tall and thin or have a great figure and there will be someone out there who has something negative to say. keep your head up!

I probably should not have even started this thread because I am not 100% sure what she exactly died from. All I heard was that she died from complications of her lap band. I was worried that this was going to hinder the conversation that I had planned on having that night with my family, about deciding to do the lap band. For the person who asked why I can't find out exactly what she died from: We found out through a friend that is friends with people that were related to my father's death, so it's obviously an uncomfortable situation.

i usually have NO PROBLEM gaining weight lol but my nerves are goin crazy right now so i cant seem to gain anything.. i asked the same question but if something was to happen to me (which i know is very very unlikely) then he could get in trouble.

that's awesome! i am worried right now haha i have to gain like 4 pounds before my doctor can submit my paperwork to my ins. company. my bmi is like a 39.1 he wants it at atleast a 40 so there is no problem with them approving me. i can NOT seem to put weight on right now because i am so anxious about all of this i have never ever had a problem gaining weight and all of a sudden....i need to..and i cant lol

thanks :] i know she had the lap band surgery forsure. that's about as far as my knowledge goes. i didn't really know her. (i met her a few times briefly) but i have no clue. I hope my posting hasn't offended anyone. i am not blaming her lap band for her death, i am just expressing a concern that i had because i thought it was going to make my family uneasy about it.

as awful as this may sound...i was more upset because the day the lady died, was the day i had planned to tell my family that i wanted to get the lap band. i was worried that this would hinder my chances of getting support from my family (as awful as this may sound) ofcourse it's sad that she died, but i agree, she could have died of a heart attack or anything else for that matter.

my doctor recommended that i gain a few pounds before they submit my request for approval from my insurance company. i have a bmi of 39.1 and he wants it to be atleast a 40 so i don't have any issues being approved. i have NEVER in my life had a problem with gaining weight. However, my nerves are going a million miles per hour right now and i can not seem to keep any extra weight on. any suggestions of how i can gain a few pounds with in the next few days? thankss

i was never given the details unfortunately. (and really don't have a way of finding out because the person we know told someone who told us. ) i don't think anyone was suppose to know but we found out. i just heard that she had complications with her lap band and died in her sleep. i am sure there were other factors involved. sorry for not clarifying.

i have awful stretch marks and i was wondering if they will become any "better looking" as i lose weight....

I have chosen Dr. Korman and his team to do my lap band surgery. Has anyone had any experiences with him or his team. Good or bad??? Please Share!!

thanks everyone. i definitely want to go forward with the lap band i was just really upset because yesterday i had plans on telling my family about my decision so it didn't really help my case that someone had just died from it. fortunately, my family didn't even bring her unfortunate experience up. they agreed that it is something that i should do and have decided to support me :]

thank you! and thanks for all the advice! o no...that is awful. i am sorry for your loss as well. it is scary to think that last year i had actually lost about 40 pounds and was training for a half marathon and now i am 100 pounds heavier then that weight and am miserable just walking in the heat. i have 2 appointments this week and 2 next week. then my paperwork will be off to the insurance company for approval. :]

so yesterday was a little nerve wracking i found out that a friend of a friend died from complications of her lap band (i was not given any details) yesterday was also the day that i planned on telling my family that i am having this done. long story short i ended up getting support from my aunt, whom i did not expect to approve of this AT ALL. her and i are very close and her opinion means a lot to me. she let me know her concerns and told me to "educate my self, do it, and do it right!" my whole family has had a very hard year with the tragic accident that killed my father in october of 09. i have put on 80!!! yes 80! pounds since then.... nice to know i have the support of the people that mean to most to me. thanks to all of you on here as well. you all are so supportive and provide great advice!

So I am so close to finishing up all my tests and everything that needs to be done to get my surgery date. Today I found out that a friend of a friend died from conplications of her lapband. My aunt and grandma and reallly hesistant about me doing this. They want me to have a talk with them tonight and tell them why I want this and why I can't just eat healthy and exercise without the band. Idk what to say....
