  1. I think if you can find a way to afford it, you are not crazy for wanting to have the procedure. I am 4'8" and weighed 215 just before I had the procedure on 09/08/10. I've lost 30 lbs (including from when I started on pre-op diet) now and people are really noticing. I turn 40 this next year and I was just ready to be healthy and to look good of course. Good luck to you.
  2. I don't think that sounds too unreasonable. I got the band on 09/08/10. I was on liquid pre-op diet for 2 weeks prior, liquids after for about 2 weeks after, then was able to start on soft, mushy foods. I've also been very careful about my chewing. I've not had any problems with any food and have not had any pains. I have had issues with taking some meds a couple of times, where I almost had to throw up, but was able to hold it down. Good luck to you. Let us know how you do.
  3. I forgot to post something last week at my 6 weeks mark. I've pretty much decided to at least sign on every two weeks to do a status. Well, things have been going okay. My weight has fluxuated up/down about 1 1/2 lbs for the past week or so. I've not let it bother me too much, but I was happy to have met my goal (barely) for this past week. I have lost 30 lbs, since starting the pre-op diet and being banded on 09/08/10. I am wearing clothes that I haven't been able to fit into in a long time. Pretty cool to wear a pair of jeans that I haven't worn in like two years. Yay! I am disappointed to find out that the way the charges put through to my insurance company, it looks like I'll have to pay over a $1000 to the surgery center for supplies, which I understand mostly means the actual band itself. I was not expecting that, but it's partly my fault. I should have paid more attention to the info in the insurance, but to my credit, nobody said anything about paying for the actual band. All I knew was that the procedure was approved. Also, don't like how much my co-pay is for going for the office visit & fill (which is being coded/submitted as a "surgery", because the skin is being punctured). What the heck!!? So, I've not been totally happy with the center/company that I went through for the procedure, but I am so happy I had it done. I had my second fill this past week and it went better than the first. I'm lucky, because I've not had any problems with food or pain. There has been a couple of times where I've had little pains in my sides, but I can't definitively say that it's due to the port/band (I don't think it is). More people are noticing that I'm losing weight, so that's been cool. ...and since I've chosen to only tell a few people about getting the band, everyone just thinks it's because I've been going to the gym every day. I also tell people that I've had to change how I eat, which is not a lie. I was going to post some new pics, but I have to wait until I buy a new USB cord to upload from my camera (one of our puppies chewed the cord). So, that's all for now. I hope to sign on next week or so. Bye!
  4. They should be able to do an ultrasound scan and find it. That's crap, that the dr. can't find it. Good luck to you. I agree with some of the others. You may need to find a new dr.
  5. I've also heard/read that if you go lay down with food in your stomach, that the pouch can stretch out.
  6. Congratulations! I lost only a tiny bit this week, but I got under a certain number. I seriously cannot remember the last time I weighed what I do now. I've lost a little bit more than 25 lbs, so I still have about 75 lbs to go. Keep it up.
  7. I'm six weeks banded also. I've been wondering the same thing.
  8. How much time do you give in between when you eat and when you lay down or when you go to bed? I've been giving myself at least three hours, but wondered what everyone else does?
  9. Who else's stomach growls really loud (and I really mean loud) when you get hungry? I hear my stomach growling, which should mean I'm hungry, but I don't always feel hungry when it growls. Anyone else have this?
  10. I wasn't hungry tonight and then when I got hungry (finally), it was too late to eat anything before bed. So, I just had a slimfast type drink. Still a tiny bit hungry, but feel pretty good.
  11. I lost a really good amount before I had my first fill of 1cc a week ago. You should be fine if you watch what you eat and do your exercising. Good luck to you.
  12. I'm doing pretty good with not snacking between meals, but I do eat more than 6oz at meals. Today my yummy frozen dinner was 10oz and I felt fine after eating it. Not stuffed or anything, but I keep getting worried about stretching my pouch.
  13. I've had this question also. We have Popcorn Day every Thursday at my office and I haven't tried it yet, since getting the band in early September. Will try it tomorrow!
  14. Congratulations! That's so exciting.
  15. You're doing good by losing 3lbs in 5 days.
  16. I say see if it is covered by your insurance and see if you can get approved. Good Luck to you. It really is worth it. I was banded on 09/08 and have not had any major problems. Just minor gas pain and normal healing after the procedure. I was 215 and am now very close to getting under 190. I'm looking very forward to being thin and healthy. Take care and again, good luck.
  17. Angie - Hi. I say "Go for it"! I was covered by my insurance and the process went rather quickly for me. I was banded on 09/08 and have lost 23 lbs since being on the pre-op diet. Have you done any checking around for where to get the procedure and is it covered by insurance for you. Take care. Feel free to message me on here.
  18. Try a good protein (I used a supplement that had 42g of protein) supplement. It really helped me.
  19. I was banded 4 1/2 weeks ago. The liquid diet wasn't too bad for me, but the first day or two were the worst. I took a protein supplement suggested by TrueResults and my surgeon, called Protein Bullet. They have 42 grams of protein. The protein helped me not feel hungry, although I did crave alot of foods. I think there were 12 of the little bottles in the box and it cost $36 (I believe). A little pricey on my budget and they don't taste that great, but they really helped me. So, maybe you can try a supplement really high in protein. Good Luck to you. P.S. I did lose at least 5 lbs on the liquid diet.
  20. P.S. When something gets stuck, do you pretty much feel it right away?
  21. I have not had any problems with stuck foods yet (4 1/2 weeks after being banded). I just had my first fill (1cc) three days ago and still no problems. I really, really, chew my food.
  22. I just started trying to lay on my port side (4 1/2 weeks after getting banded) and it still does not feel too comfortable, so I'm going to give it more time. I also do not feel comfortable doing sit-ups or exercies where I'll use those ab muscles yet. I did not some leg presses last week and felt something weird in my abs, once when my legs were extended and stopped doing that exercise. I'm just really paranoid about messing up the port.
  23. Sounds good to me. Think I may try it.
  24. I was banded on 09/08 and had my first fill on 10/07 (4 weeks). It was weird, because I didn't particularly like how it felt, but at least it was quick. I think it is somewhat restrictive; I am working on doing a better job of measuring my foods and not just eyeballing it.
