Have several health issues - Sjogrens's Syndrome (dry eyes, dry mouth - autoimmune); Had a stroke some years ago from torn arteries in neck but get around ok now - just got a really bad memory..; Renal acidosis (Type 1) and nagged by renal specialist to lose weight.  He suggested Lap Banding.  I have dieted every which way over the years and yo-yo-ed (you know the story!). Anyway went to an alternative doctor who did tests and after a biopsy discovered I am a coeliac (celiac).  Spent a year and half on strict coeliac diet (I will be following it for life) of no wheat, oats, barley, rye, triticale. I imagined all my fat would melt away! Ha! I put it on plus some because at last I was absorbing the food I ate.  So I finally decided to go ahead with Lap Banding after now a few years to think about it.Had the surgery on 24th May 2010 and came home sore and sorry for myself - GAS!  On days 2 and 3 I started to worry that I had done the wrong thing - but wasn't hungry!   I clung on to that fact - not worrying about where my next meal would come from - and worked through the various pains.  I am now starting solid foods and finding myself like a child - learning a new way of eating all over again.  Chew...chew...chew....  Have lost 6kg and am really happy.   The only problem I have is pain in my upper central abdomen if I spend too long leaning forward. I feel that this is the beginning of a great new part of my life...
