Sounds like you are well-prepared, and your fear may turn out to just be fear, and not reality. That said, I would keep a Water bottle at all times -- and perhaps take a bite of her Snacks,, if I wanted to do that. Five potato chops are not going to derail you, and may take away the irritability factor, if you do begin to experience that.
I went to Disneyland when I was short term post-op, and had the same fear. Turned out to be for naught. I wasted some $ since I ate so little of what I bought, but with the surgery, there just wasn't that "pull" towards the junk and I was able to be happy and still eat right.
    Enjoy your trip!

Thanks bandito. I've had a couple of those moments as well...folks thinking I was always this way. I have a relatively new friend who calls me her little sister because I'm so much smaller than she is. I've told her and showed her what I looked like before because she assumed I was always a little lady.

I can not tell you how much Hospice helped me while my Dad was dying. They have an incredibly beautiful perspective on death. They bring you peace and hope. Heaven really is our goal. The hard work is here on earth. It helped me to know my Dad would be out of pain and live eternally in heaven. Think that about your brother. My surgeon said not to expect weight loss until 4 or 5 fills. You are not even restricted yet and are losing weight so you are doing very well. One member in my monthly support group inspires me. She lost 50 pounds in a whole year!! Losing slowly worked very well for her. She far in front of us on body image because the slow loss gave her mind time to keep up with and adjust to her changing body. Wow. So a pound a week is tremendous progress. We can not compare ourselves to others on the site. Compare oneself to oneself and go easy on yourself while your brother is dying. You are doing God's work by being with him every day. I applaud you.

I have so much more self confidence now. I'm no longer the largerest person in the room. I feel so much better about my self and the people that know me cans see that. I have a very good support group with my friends and family.
I've been going to my favorite watering hole with one of my besties. I know most everybody in the place. People would talk to me be nice and all that other good stuff. Now that they have seen how much weight I have lost I get so many positive reactions. Makes me feel really good. I have gentlemen come up to me and tell me I am beautiful, buying me drinks. ( I am happily married and tell them this) but I get that's okay. I just like buying a pretty gal a drink. A year ago that didn't happen.
I feel beautiful and everyone can see that and it carries over in the attitudes of others.

I haven't really noticed a difference in how people treat me. The only big change is me more so being less quiet than I used to around others, I have more confidence with myself.
I don't really mention my weight loss to them, they don't really grill/talk to me about it. Although there has been a few times where they have noticed a significant loss before I have and congratulated me on it.
I do get asked for recipes a ton as they all know I love cooking and know I make everything I eat, myself.

I have stopped loosing for almost 3 years now, and I can tell you it is an entirely different social structure now in more ways I can even mention....
Plus, I feel one gets back what one gives...so being slim, fit and healthy boosts ones own self confidence, self image, and overall vigor....making me more open, forward and friendly to strangers or people I first meet....I'll strike up conversations with just about anyone, anywhere, and any age.....
So it works both ways. I'm 62 years old and I am enjoying life now more that I have in I don't know how long.
Wish I had done this a long time ago....
People who knew me before when I was fat, have long forgotten and don't talk about it anymore...it is old news and I am accepted the way I am now naturally....and people I newly meet do not know I was ever obese....
This surgery had done so much in so many different ways...it's incredible!

Oh gotcha, sorry I miss understood what you were asking.
Every morning I fill up a 32 oz cup and I drink half by the time I get to work, then I get to work and will eat breakfast which is typically greek yogurt with trail mix (17 p) 250 cal or a Protein Bar (20p) (160 cal), then as soon as that hour is up I will start drinking again and finish the remaining 16oz by lunch. Eat lunch which is typically a salad with chicken or turkey rolled up with cheese approx. and (250-300 cal) (approx. 17-20 g p) an hour later I will fill my 32oz cup up again and will have finished it by the time I get home. When get home I will have a snack tyically a skinny cow ice cream (2g p) (160 cal) then dinner, typically chicken breast, turkey burger and a veggie like caluiflower (approx. 30-40 g p) (approx 350-400 cal)or a weight watchers meal (varies in cal and p). an hour later again with the Water 16oz (i've now hit my Fluid intake for the day) I will have an evening snack sometimes that's 2oz of cheese (14g p) (220 cal) or if I'm running low on Protein a Quest Protein Bar (20g p) (160 cal) etc. By this time I've roughly hit my 1200 cal target (some days a littel shy some days a little over) and my 60-80 grams of Protein for the day.
Oh no, I didn't just start having the issue and I can't truly say that it is an issue because it has worked for me all these years that I have long since accepted it as my "new lifestyle". I was just curious as to how everyone else get it all in (eats/drinks) on a daily basis.

I am still grateful for what still feels like my new, healthy life that includes feeling good about myself, playing with my kids, and working out and loving it!

Give it another try over the next week. The reason we all need surgeries (I did not notice which one you chose), is because we need help. It is very important to stay on pre-op and after-op diets -- even more so on the after-op. Only you know if you need some type of therapy before the operation, and if so, maybe you should postpone until you feel more in control. But the surgeries themselves do help give you that control, too. It would be a shame to go through all the surgery and not be able to stick with it, but my experience was that it became much, much easier to do after the operation. Perhaps talk to your surgeon and his team and let them know what happened ... They have probably heard similar before. Until then, gather yourself, do not go on a binge, and think this through!

Failure because you ate a piece of cake?!?!?!?!? C'mon now, you can't really be serious.....you're going to call and cancel your surgery because you ate a piece of cake?
I'm almost 5 years post op....I eat cake! NORMAL people eat cake.
The whole preop, tests, appointments, etc, etc ARE stressful. I don't know you or your age, but if you're like me, we've been turning to stress relievers (such as that piece of cake) for many years. And it took us to a place in our life we didn't/don't like.... Therefore, we made the decision to change it. But that change doesn't happen overnight. There will be slipups....we're human. I've had many along the last 5 years...but I'm in such a much better place today because of my WLS.
It's certainly your decision, but please don't think one piece of cake is reason to throw everything you've worked for away.....Best wishes!
ETA...almost 5 years. I ate ICE CREAM after the pic on the right...

Don't let a high BMI alone dictate your choice of surgical options. Any procedure can and will work if your head is in it.
I started out with BMI of 78 at 488lbs. Regardless of which option you choose just know it is going to be hard work and it is going to take time. WLS is not just about weight loss and physical change. You need to change mentally and if you don't any option you choose could wind up being temporary.

I used to wonder the same thing in the beginning; especially Water. Now, I drink two 16 oz bottles of water before I leave for work, and before I have Breakfast --which is usually a Plain Greek yogurt with chia seeds added. I drink another water before lunch, and focus my lunch on Protein content -- chicken breast, turkey, chili w Beans and meat, something like that. Then. More water until dinner. I like fish and a vegetable, and a small carb serving. I wait at least an hour and then have Decaf tea and more water. I am 2-1/2 years out of surgery, at goal, and probably a little less than green --but I like it that way. On days when I have a hard workout, I will supplement with a Protein Shake. I also partake now and then in a decaf latte, lol. If you add it up on a calorie counter --the calories add up faster than you think if you count everything you put in your mouth!!

At my initial consultation I weighted in at 289lbs. After the 2 week pre-op diet I was down to 278lbs. Today I'm almost 15 months post-op and have lost a total of 154lbs putting my weight at 135lbs. Just like SillyAuntDi I follow my doctors instructions to the T. I ate the recommended portions and made nutritious choices. I made the choice going into this surgery that I was going to eliminate foods from my diet that were trigger foods for me or didn't carry any nutritional value such as Pasta, potatoes, rice etc. nt because I can't eat them I just choose not to because they don't fill me up and make me crave them more. If you have any additional questions I will be more than happy to try and answer those for you. Good luck on your journey.

    Hi Candace,
I weighed 354lbs on September 4, 2013 when I went for my pre-op appointment. I had surgery on September 11, 2013. I weighed last week and was at 197lbs. I am not, apparently, the normal lap band patient. My surgeon and my nutritionist remind me of this at every appointment. However, I have done exactly what my doctor asked me to do. If he said no coffee, I had no coffee. If he said eat fruit, I ate fruit. If he said jump, I asked how high. I no longer have high blood pressure. I no longer need strong meds for my arthritis pain. I exercise 3-4 times a week at a boxing gym. I ride my bike. I walk when my knees and feet will allow. So, I don't think of myself as special. I am just me. If I can do this....anyone can. Good luck to you!

There are a few people here who fall in this category. I started my journey at a high weight of 327. I now weigh less that 192 (not sure the exact weight bc I don't weigh but once every 4-6 weeks at my doctor's office.)
My journey started with me trying yet another DIET on January 2, 2012. I gave up most refined carbohydrates for that year, and by May of 2013, I weighed 288. I joined a gym and painstakingly made myself go 5-6 days a week, even though I could barely move, or breathe, for the first two months. I had lapband surgery on Aug 22, 2013, with my weight at 271. I now weigh somewhere at or less than 192. I still go to the gym 6 days a week, and I LOOK FORWARD TO IT EACH AND EVERY DAY. I will post "Before" and "Now" pictures here........
