  1. ya - i was telling my mother that it was a concern of mine that i do get headaches but she thought it was because i don't eat enough Protein and that after being banded if i eat enough i should be ok. guess we'll see i havent told my family dr that i'm getting the band. she's just a bit younger then me but has the "just get out and exercise" mindset. i've been on all kinds of depression meds and had all kinds of blood work and tests that show there's nothing wrong so then it must be that i'm fat because i don't exercise. she once told me if she stranded me on an island for 35 days (al la survivor) i'd lose weight. ya ok cause that's doable. sometimes i think dr's are very narrow minded and don't really understand their patients.
  2. I'm in Toronto so getting it done at Slimband. 15 and 13 - perfect age for boarding school LOL my daughter is 4 1/2 acts sometimes 2 and sometimes 40 - my mornings were rough - afternoons and evenings i loved being pregnant. dh makes fun of me sometimes because i spent a lot of time on the cold bathroom floor kinda like when i was in my early 20's minus the parting the night before HAHAHAHA
  3. 3 weeks - holy cow - that's the longest i've heard anyone has to do usually it's been 1-2 weeks - wow really hope it goes ok for you. 140 is what i want to lose too so this is good - we're only a month apart in surgery so we should be bandbuddies  the ensure was great for me. my morning sickness really was morning. i lost 35lbs in the first 6 months just from morning sickness. i actually liked them so i don't see having a problem. i did them from about 6 weeks until the day i went into labour so 8 months
  4. well i can't start any sooner then a week before because we'll be on holiday and only return about 9 days before my surgery. however i don't have a specific diet that i have to follow - just high protine low fat. i'm also buying Ensure high protine drinks - i lived off them while i was pregnant because i couldn't hold down anything during the day except that. i already know what it tastes like and i'm fine with it as long as i add a little more milk to it to thin it out slightly good luck with yours. how much do you want to lose?
  5. while i was surfing for information i came across this side from this fitness guy who basically says us losers who chose any form of weight loss surgery are just lazy over eaters who should shut our mouths and get off our butts. post after post from people praising this guy saying how right he was how we're just taking the easy way out. blah blah blah. the fighter in my wants to slap him for jumping to conclusions thinking everyone is just lazy and if we just stopped eating it's that simple but a larger part of me feels like i'm 6 years old again and my stupid teacher is saying everything i do is wrong i don't want to be a failure i do want to be healthy so what if i need help via the band who the hell is he to judge????? those insecure feelings are never far from the top and it doesn't take much to push them out :tongue2:
  6. ohhhhh - ok - so it's the lapband that is given to those going through Slimband?
  7. is this common? i've read a few threads where people are talking about eroded esophagas complications. is there a root cause or was it happening with the older bands?
  8. the Lap Band and Slim Band here in Toronto? I dont' see anyone talking about the Slimband but are they the same just different name?
  9. oh that actually makes more sense then what i thought. it would be great if my clinic provides help in the area of teaching how to eat properly like you guys do - should find that out next week. i'm really very bad at eating healthy. sugar, carbs, fat all the good stuff for taste i pretty much lived off of Ensure drinks while pregnant because i couldn't keep anything down. i found out they have a high protine version which i was thinking of taking the week before - though my dr doesn't require a liquid diet like you guys down there but i might do it just the same.
  10. why does it have to be toasted?
  11. i think its funny that you guys in the states have to lose weight before you get banded - if it were that easy to lose weight you wouldn't need to be banded. plus you have to do a psych evaluation - we don't have to do that up here - in fact i still haven't even told my family dr i'm doing this - prob won't until my next visit whenever that is. but it most definitely be after being banded. it's probably because we have to pay out of pocked for the procedure - which is very expensive up here - 16000. there's little wait time too - pretty much only 2 weeks but i'm doing it in August because we're going away for all of July and didn't want to have surgery just before my vacation - i'll use the month of Aug to get ready and recover before going back to work.
  12. wow - it's a good thing it was caught when it was - sorry you're going through that. - it must be frustrating. you have to pay for each fill? is it different in the states or does it depend on the dr? up here we pay a fortune to get the band but then the fills are included (at least for the first 4 years - not sure what happens after that.)
  13. It seems like my brain or at least my subconscious is working overtime to make my cravings clear and present. Whenever I make a decision to go on a diet or change my routine or whatever my subconscious jumps in and puts up walls up. The past few nights I have found myself in the kitchen making toast or a Peanut Butter sandwich sometime after 9pm. I also find I'm craving my favourite Cookies 'n cream chocolate bars. I do hope this is a temporary thing because I just made my decision but gees I need to retrain by brain to crave Water more On the plus side we're going away for the entire month of July so I'll get a hell of a lot of walking done and lots to see that will help keep my mind off food then I'm only back a week before my surgery date. We've also just opened our pool so we can get out after dinner for an hour swim which will help tire both Cassie and myself out for a good sleep.
  14. i did. i was 250 when i got married and pg a few months later. i had horrible morning sickness from 6 weeks to the day she was born, lost 30lb in the first and second trimester but gained it all back plus another 20 lb in the third. after i gave birth i lost 20 lb in about 3 weeks but then from then til i finished nursing at 18 months i gained about 40lbs. my friends had me convinced that nursing would have the lbs melting away but it didn't i let dd cut herself off and i'm very very happy we lasted so long i just wish my friends were right. my fear is getting banded (aug 12) losing weight and getting pg again. with all the morning sickness i had what happen if the band slips while i'm pg?
  15. my dh and i have been trying for 4 years to have a second child and i'm pretty sure it's not happening because i'm so overweight (65lbs since our wedding and getting pg with dd) i'm hoping that after being banded on Aug 12 that in about a year we can become pregnant again but how will that effect the band? will it have to be removed and replaced or just empty with the baby grows does it effect the band when the stomach gets all squished up anyone get pg after being banded? thanks
  16. wow - good to know thanks all for the info. is there anything that helps easy the pain? heating pads, walking streatching? do these work or are you pretty much stuck with it for a week
  17. oh that's interesting. i thought the dr would have removed as much of the gas as he could so ppl aren't in discomfort guess you can't remove it all
  18. no i don't have any pain - i'm not getting banded until August 12th i just can't figure out why so many people post banding have shoulder pain.
  19. I've been reading a lot of posts where people are talking about gas pain which i totally understand but why do so many have shoulder pain? what happens during surgery that your shoulder is sore?
  20. i know how you feel. i've known about the slimband for about 2 years and thought and thought and thought about it. kept putting it off because of the cost but my mom happened to mention a commercial she saw a few weeks ago and that's all it took. within 2 weeks i had already had my first meeting to find out all the ins and outs, paid the deposit and book my appointment. it's amazing how just a simple bump starts things rolling. i think the timing is right in other ways too because dh and i have been trying for 4 years to get pg again and have a second child. i think my weight has played a huge part in not conceiving so maybe in a year or so i can report that we're expecting our second child.
  21. Hi Kittykat. Great to have someone join me in the month. Hopefully more will join as the weeks go by. good luck with your appointment - we don't have to do any of that here but then we have to pay 16,000 out of pocket for it too so i think i'd rather wait 6 months and have it covered  i tried to edit my second post to add you but the edit button is gone - wonder if you only have a short number of days to edit a post before they remove that option.
  22. Last week I booked my appointment for my surgery on Aug 12. it seems like my brain has said - "oh crap you better get in all the carbs you can now" the last few days i've been craving carbs like never before. i've always been a carb freak. bread, Cereal, bread... did i say bread??? i could live of it - well not exactly but you know what i mean. after recovery do the cravings go away or will this always be a huge battle for me?? i hope not because i eat them now without even thinking. i find myself at 10pm making toast and before i know it i'm saying - wow i didn't even realize i'm doing it or did it.
  23. we're going to Quebec City for a week, Richmond Virginia for a week, Savannah for 4 days and Disney World for 7 days. I just don't want to be too far from home right after in case there is a problem. if i were to book now it would be for the last week in June - too soon for me. thanks for sharing your experience
  24. i'm glad you know what i'm feeling. i haven't had any surgery ever do i'm a bit nervous of how this is all going to end up. but this time next year we'll be in the final stages of prep for visiting my aunt in england and i can't wait to finally be able to fit my fat butt in the seat and not feel pain from the seat belt.
  25. i just booked my surgery for August 12th but what happens next? We'll be away for the entire month of July and only back the week before my op date so i'm guessing any appointments i need will have to be in June. can anyone advise me as to what i should expect to happen and how quickly it will be thanks
