can someone suggest a good vitiman?
I spoke to my nutritionist about it and he basically said that since I just got sleeved on Tuesday -- that I probably am not able to tolerate it. So, I am gong to try flinstones that my kids take and wait until next week to try the bariatric one again... Now, I am scared.

can someone suggest a good vitiman?
Hi everyone, The dr recommended I start taking my multivitamin today -- I purchased Bariatric Advantage Complete Multi Formula and it seems like 2 minutes later I was nauseous and sick to my stomach. It even gave me diahrrea! Is that normal? I really don't feel like taking these tomorrow!!! Any Vitamins you all recommend that I can purchase over the counter? I also purchased the Vitamin B12 from Bariatric Advantage (Sublingual B12) has anyone had any adverse reaction? How did you like it? I don't need to take this one for 2-3 weeks. In addition, I purchased the calcium citrate chewy bites from Bariatric Advantage too -- also can't take for 2-3 weeks but would love to hear what you all think? Why is it that you can take all of them together? I must no have been listening when my dr was speaking to me!! lol -- I am glad I have you all for guidance!

Having surgery tomorrow 6/29
So, I just got back from the dr.'s office and he said that I can go on a full liquid diet now and on Monday on mushies... I am so exited! Oh, and when they weighed me -- I had already lost 14 pounds (10 pounds post op and 4 pounds since surgery on Tuesday). I am so exited! I am sitting here eating some homemade chicken Soup (blended with veggies and chicken). I am feeling great. Most of the gas is gone. Just wanted to let you all know how it was going.

Just got sleeved yesterday!!
Well I got back from the hospital yesterday and I am feeling good. The dr told me that I could have a Protein shake today -- then I emailed my nutritionist and he said that the dr likes to advance more than he does.... But I did it anyways and it went down well. I've had one Protein Shake in the morning with skim milk that has 20 grams of protein; then I had Water with crystal light all day; at lunch I had an unjury chicken soup with another 20 grams of protein and more crystal light during the day -- and probably will have another protein shake with another 20 grams of protein. I have to be honest that when I woke up this morning I felt really, really, weak -- once I started the protein shake I felt much better. I went to Target to walk around and felt good. I have been very gassy today --- lots of burping but feel good except my son keeps telling me, excuse me mom every time I burp... It is hard to say excuse me when I burp so much. LOL But overall, I am feeling good - I'll let you know what my nutritionist says tomorrow. I have not been hungry at all!! I am just looking forward to chewing soon!! On Tuesday, I can have egg, oatmeal, etc.. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Painful to drink/eat? How sore after surgery?
I had surgery on Tuesday and have to say I have had no pain. Never took a pain killer -- did not take the morphine in the hospital.. It has been wonderful. As far as drinking; well, I have tried to drink as much as possible but I feel very restricted. So, I just take small sips all day. I am 2 days post op and went to Target today to walk around. My dr. said I could have protein shakes today so I had one this morning, a protein soup in the afternoon and one protein shake this evening. I am feeling good - I have a nutritionist appt tomorrow and if all goes well, I can have pudding and blended soups. woohoo!!

Just got sleeved yesterday!!
Hi everyone! I just wanted to thank everyone for the well wishes. I am home from surgery and I feel great! I went in at about 9am (well went in earlier but my surgery time was 9am) and was out in 45 minutes. No, discomfort and no pain medication necessary. Oddly and pleasantly enough, they did not put a drainage tube or catheter. I was not allowed to eat or drink anything the entire day. I walked around the moment I got a room and that has helped greatly with the gas. I can BURP like a grown man!! But like SHREK says, better out than in. I had my leak test this morning (that liquid was horrible) and I passed!! I was exited to hear it!! I was then given Water, chicken broth, Jello and crystal light... Well, I tried the chicken broth but it was horrible. No way I am eating that. I ate the jello and drank some of the water. Oddly enough I have not been hungry. I feel like every time I drink or eat jello that I am forcing myself to because I don't really feel hungry. I have no head hunger either -- which is great! Tomorrow the dr says I can start on the Protein shakes. I bought some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder. Is it any good? It says it makes 8oz -- do you all make it and save the other 4oz for later? Friday I will be able to have blended stuff, milk, pudding, etc. I hope to tolerate it. I am not hungry but I have a weird feeling -- like I am afraid of food? Is that normal? My stomach sounds like world war III in there... There are all kinds of noises going on. I don't know what that is about but maybe she is getting used to it. Anyone else experience this? Other than the noise, I am feeling good. Glad to be home. Dr. sent me home with zantaz 2x a day -- which I never needed but he said it was good to take the first month as it helps settle your stomach and percaset for pain which I didn't take in the hospital so I don't plan to take at home if I can help myself. I weighed myself and I had gained 3 pounds -- probably because I am swollen right? It isn't because of food I can tell you that much!! I have an appt with the nutritionist on Friday. Will keep you posted. I am so happy everything turned out well. I was really scared coming un but I guess you really have to have faith in your surgeon.. :thumbup1:

Hiccups?
HI everyone. I am still in the hospital and everything went really well (thank you for the well wishes:) ) from pre-op to post-op everything has been awesome. I didn't have to have a drainage tube or catheter. I am awaiting my upper GI this morning. I didn't realize that I wasn't able to eat anything yesterday but miraculously enough, I wasn't hungry!! Anyways, as with everyone, I am very gassy. I started walking an hour after surgery but I have HICCUPS!! Did anyone experience this? They go away but they are really frustrating....

Having surgery tomorrow 6/29
I just came back from my doctor's office to get weighed and I lost the necessary 10 pounds!! I am so exited!! I also did my pre-registration call -- it is so scary to be asked about a living will, blood transfusions, etc. BUT, I guess it is something that is done with every surgery. I just pray to GOD that I will be ok. I know there are risks to everything but when you make a decision to have elective surgery it is always scary. Wish me luck! :001_unsure:

Slider Foods
Maybe this is a silly question -- but what do you all consider slider foods? I hear this term often but don't understand? I mean, to me liquids would be slider foods? But what else?

Finally, the big day is tomorrow!
Good luck! I will pray for you! My surgery is on Tuesday!! So, I'll let you know how that goes.

Florida Surgeon?
I have insurance through United Health Care... the process was easy and it only took about 2 weeks for approval. Their staff is super knowledgeable. Attend one of the seminars.. They do all surgeries at the University of Miami Hospital (by Jackson). If you want their contact info -- let me know and I will be happy to send it to you. So far, I am very happy!! My surgery is on Tuesday -- and although I have to be HONEST, I am scared -- I am totally confident in his abilities.

jagged little pill...
I am sorry to ask -- but I am a little confused -- does that mean that ALL pills from now on have to be crushed or cut up? I take a capsule that is an amino acid that let you sleep at night. I also take oracea that is for my face that is also a capsule. I can't imagine opening them up and just taking the powder? Is this what the dr has said? Also, when we have a headache after surgery, what can we take? Is it going to have to be in liquid form?

1 year out today
Thank you so much! You have really put me at ease. Every day I find out something that I didn't know.. I didn't know about the hair loss, drainage tube:scared0:; stapling of the stomach (thought they sutured it).. You know when you think you know it all -- well, this has just gone by so quickly for me that I didn't have a chance to assimilate it all.... I am going to try and take my laptop to the hospital so I can let everyone know how it went. I have heard all types of things to expect when I am out -- so I don't know if I will be in the mood.. I guess I am comparing this to when I had my gall bladder removed two years ago.. I was out the same day and no pain, no gas..But, am sure this is different... right?:willy_nilly:

1 year out today
Your story is so inspiring and it comes at just the RIGHT time. I have my surgery on Tuesday, June 29th. Last night, I sat with my husband going over the site and telling him some of the stories that I read. I ran into a couple that had leaks (including you) and have to tell you that made me hesitate for a minute. All I could think about were my two kids (they are 3 & 5). I have read incredible stories about my dr -- but you mentioned that this was your dr's first leak -- so, now, I am just hopeful and praying that my surgery goes as well as some of the people on this board. I know with every surgery there are complications but I guess you are never prepared for the worst and only expect the best. So, I am going to try and stay away from those stories with leaks and hope that next week will be the beginning of my new life. Thank you for sharing the pics! You look awesome!

Newbie...
I sure will... I was telling my husband I wanted to take my computer to the hospital but he won't let me because he said I would work... I work from home so it is always tempting.

Post Op questions - How long?
I noticed in some of these postings they talked about a drainage tube? Does everyone have one?

Do you have insurance that approved the sleeve?
Hi - I have UHC and they approved the gastric sleeve. They didn't make me jump through hoops but they did require the following: 5 year history of obesity 6 month supervised diet (3 of which had to be consecutive) At least 100 pds over goal weight or I think a 30 BMI and a co-morbidity. Need Psychological Eval I started the journey in May 2010 - and had all paperwork ready before Memorial Day weekend and was approved within 2 weeks. However, my general physician was really good about putting the papers together. I have seen her for 15 years so she was wonderful about it. I am scheduled to go in on June 29th -- every day I question my decision. I am on the Optifast diet and have been on it for 10 days and have lost 7 pounds. The first week I only lost 3 and I was stressed out because I thought to myself -- I am NOT eating and I only lose 3 pounds in one week what about when I do start eating? How am I going to lose anything? Does that make sense? I am scared because I have two small children who need their mother HEALTHY!! But, like everyone, I am scared of not coming back to them. But I am trying to be optimistic and deal with the decision that I have made.
