  1. I'd be surprised if the Slim Fast is the answer...... I read Ali's book today. That's a nice overview for people who don't get it about morbid obesity....hope some uninformed folks will read it. And a real text book case of the band working the way Inamed says it does! I want to read a book by someone who struggled more, I guess. I have two struggles at the moment...one is that I'm getting so little exercise due to my back. The other is that I'm bored with food...except the stuff that's bad for me. I think I'm mostly bored with eating correctly, and wanting to hurry.... I'll get past it. Just an old behavior cropping up to test the waters.....
  2. It's a different daughter of Ali's who has had the band for 3 years and has dropped from 325 to something like 150...... co-written by a doctor who is also banded. They claim it takes 3 years to reach goal weight. I've just started the book, but a fellow bandster who read it adores it and says it's full of great advice. I got the other book awhile back and liked it, but loaned to to another bandster right after I looked at it, and haven't gotten it back yet! I'm tickled about the drop in clothing size too, but I'm trying to find a way for my stomach to catch up! Tummy is still so big that it's had to find pants that don't just hang everywhere else to accommodate my fat stomach!
  3. I just bought a laptop computer. How long before the built in mouse becomes second nature? I keep grabbing for a mouse outside the computer and it's not there!
  4. The wedding pics are gorgeous! You can't get more romantic than that!
  5. Hyperkalemia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia site regarding high potassium I'm interested in going to Spivak's again, Lana, but I think I'll savew up my energy for Tai Chi tomorrow...and I'm probably game for any week after this one..... Is there a good topic tonight? I want to suggest a topic...book discussion of Ali's book....
  6. Is anyone reading Muhammed Ali's daughters book on banding...Fighting Weight? I just started it.
  7. That was fun! My Fighting Weight book arrived today, so I'll be reading while the dogs nap. Want to see domes? Monolithic Dome Institute
  8. You Dr. will tell you your pre-op and post -op diets. I was banded by a minimalist... No pre-op diet, and a really short post op. The only thing I know about pre-ops is that some Dr.s want you to lose weight so your liver isn't as fatty while they are trying to get around it and do surgery, so they put folks on liquids before......
  9. Humble Inn is a good place for a good big greasy breakfast!
  10. Don't drink for at least an hour after eating....maintain that full feeling and don't flush everything through the band! Don't compare yourself to anyone else's weight loss. Everybody is different and just about everybody has plateaus. Exercise. Think about your behaviors....Do you eat when bored? In front of the TV? Start taking apart your relation ship with food. Eat where there are no distractions and eat mindfully. Find another hobby (like exercise). We lie to ourselves about food. when in doubt about your caloric intake, keep a food/calorie/fat/carb/protein journal. Even a day's worth can be eye opening.
  11. I'm OK with Humble Inn or Humble City Cafe.
  12. Hey Barbara---Sounds like Humble is more convenient than Huffman, but if not...why don't you ask if you can get your $ back.....or patial $. You'll never have to wear your jammies again.....
  13. Apparently, there are no problems with Lupus flare ups and the band, The problem is that surgery is upsetting to the system and can cause a flare up if your Lupus isn't in good control before the surgery. My dr. had no hesitation about banding me with Lupus, and my Lupus wasn't effected. The only problem I find is that during a flare up, my band is more restricting so I can eat less. No big deal.....
  14. Tai Chi is only Wednesdays, so Monday still works for me for getting together...... Humble or Atascocita. Congrats on your anniversary! What a huge difference in clothing size! I'll ask about the arm surgery, but I doubt if there's a deal. They're trying to pay for their new house in Memorial......
  15. Hmmm. I think I'll start next week. I just tried some twisty moves......and they weren't great....
  16. (Can you tell I'm back?...can't seem to condense my thoughts into a single posting.... Typical.) Anyway, if anyone needs a new chiro, I love this guy....and I think somewhere he has a $200 off deal if I refer you, and I get $25.....so let me know if you want me to dig up that discount card.....
  17. Oh, and the chiro's engaged to a woman who does plasic surgery on the loose skinned bellies of Spivak and Spiegel's lap band patients. Small world. (And who also recently went to Thailand and stayed in the same hotel I was in!)
  18. As of this morning, the Dr. says I can do Tai Chi. The inflammation in my back is gone and he says it won't hurt the work we're doing to repair the bones. So....unless I chicken out, I'm going to the May Center tonight. It's free for anyone who wants to go, and I just called and they said you don't have to sign up...just show up. Tai Chi QiGong is at 6:30 and Tai Chi Quan is at 7:30. I have no idea what the difference is. I'll go to the 6:30. I've now graduated to the chiropractor...whose assistant has had gastric bypass!
  19. Thanks for tletting us all know. I scurried around looking for how to prevent gallstones, and found a recommendation for fiber. Did the doctor tell you anything about prevention?
  20. Hi everyone. I haven't posted much lately, but I am still with you in spirit. When Lupus rains, it pours. I had to go on more meds for Lupus, and they weakened (further) my bones, so my last Tai Chi class resulted in a couple of cracked vertebrae and compressed disks. Add to that the usual Lupus symptoms, and I've been a whiney blob. Connective tissue pain and kidney malfunctions among the many symptoms.... Oddly, I'm sort of used to it, so I'm bouncing back pretty well...hence my trip with hubby and relatives to the opening of chocolata. Another few weeks, and I should be able to do exercise beyond a light stretching. I'm not moving, so I'm not losing weight, but not gaining either,so I'm content. I'm basically caring for dogs, resting, and firing up some summer jewelry---some diamond stack rings, a weird citrine and smoky quartz ring that I alone like, and some summer stuff in mixed aquamarine and light tanzanite. Just tinkering and putzing. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss exercise!!!!! I'll see you at the next dinner, and I'm looking forward to it!
  21. Chocolata sounded so good in the paper! IMO it was diappointing. The chocolate was bland. Most of the recipes hadn't been made...It was basically ice cream with toppings... There were too few people and not well trained, and the store was just that...a glorified ice cream store with a few places to sit down. I don't know what happened to all the other stuff in the paper, or the high powered design guys they listed.
  22. Cool! OK so let's figure I'm 1 week behind you and counting.....
  23. I don't get why people with MORE weight to lose are disqualifies. Makes no sense...... I guess in some ways I'm glad I was self pay... No pre op testing. Just surgery.
  24. Thanks for the tip! I just ordered it on ebay.
  25. Or if you are prone to osteoporosis, you might have messed up a disk a bit, in which case an ice pack is helpful. Hmm. guess it's time for a doctor. But my guess is the lap band isn't the problem....
