Pain in ribs and back

Recommended Posts

I have been doing really well. 100lbs lost since banding last July. But I know I still overeat and have pretty frequent pb's. Today I was painting the underside of my deck with arms extended way over my head for a period of a couple of hours. I went upstairs to clean up my tools and as I was washing out the brushes and rollers I was struck with severe pain in my ribs on both sides and across the back. It has beens several hours and the pain hasn't gone away. I'm worried I might have done something to my band. I also feel a sort of tight sensation in the abdomen where the band is. I haven't found any posts describing this type of pain. Anyone have any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds to me like you have strained your back. I've had several episodes like this in the last 10 years or so. One of the worst was when I was lifting weights...over my head. The pain does feel at times that it is radiating to the abdomen.

Until you can call your doctor, I strongly suggest that you get OFF YOUR FEET, in bed or in a recliner. Using a heating pad helps. You may want to use some liquid (children's) advil to relieve the pain, but only sitting up and with a meal. Stay off your feet as much as possible...otherwise it just takes longer to heal. I usually am in bed for 3 days. You may not be that bad.

I'm sorry you're hurting

Or if you are prone to osteoporosis, you might have messed up a disk a bit, in which case an ice pack is helpful. Hmm. guess it's time for a doctor. But my guess is the lap band isn't the problem....

Thank you all for your replies. I took some ibuprofen yesterday and today and the pain has eased off. I don't think it was band related either, now. I think I just strained something. We're putting our house on the market and I have been working very hard to get it ready to sell. I painted all the rooms myself including the ceilings plus doing a lot of other hard physical work over the last few weeks. I'm in better shape than I've been in a long time, but I may have overdone it. Thanks again to all who replied.

Congrats on the weight loss and although this incident may not be band related, I would caution you to be careful with your band! If you are PBing, go on liquids for a few days and see if that helps. Once you PB and don't rest your stoma, an evil cycle can start! Also, if you are overeating, maybe you are due for a fill. Just a thought.........

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
