  1. I can drink beer, but find most very uncomfortable to drink, so I tend to stay away from them. THere are some beers out there that are less carbonated that I don't have any issues with. I.E. Guinness, Boddingtons, etc.

  5. It was nice meeting you all as well, I tend to be a listener more than a talker, but I'll try to chime in more next time.
  6. I'm planning on going to the 3/17 meeting. Last month was my first one and I found it very helpful. Hope to see many of you there again. Coral

  8. Hey Starr, Sorry to hear about all of your struggles, that must have been really frustrating to get down to 165 and then b/c of a medication, re-gain some of the weight. First I'll tell you, you're not alone. I was banded in April 06, and where I am very proud of the weight I've lost, I know I have a long ways to go. I've basically lost and regained the same 5lbs for the last year or so, which is really frustrating. I feel like I should be further along by now, but am still very thankful for my band. I'm pretty sure if I didn't have it, I would have regained the 75+ lbs I've lost and probably more! So over the last month, I've been working really hard to always write down everything I consume as well as write down what I'm burning when I go to the gym. I actually bought a Polar heart rate monitor, that allows you to set goals and tracks your progress. I've successfully lost 9lbs over the last month, which is a really good rate. Its SOOO hard, but I've found that the most important part, is going to the gym regularly!. Stick with it, we'll get through this!! Keep me posted on how you're doing.
  9. I can't wait until I can be a part of this list! You're all an inspiration!
  10. I've heard that the best time to exercise is first thing in the morning before you eat anything. When your body doesn't have food to use as fuel, that's when it starts to use it's "reserve" aka fat. That sounds great and all, but I'm pretty sure I won't be getting up at 5am anytime soon. So the second best option is to eat something low in carbs 90 minutes before you workout. I've been drinking a protein shake 90 minutes before I workout and have seen a huge difference in my performance, which means more calories burned. Bottom line is that we could all read something different everyday with all of the available information; we each just have to do what works best for us. Trial and error I guess!
  11. Hey Kat, Sorry to hear you've had a rough time, it's certainly an ongoing battle isn't it? I know for me, when I was loosing weight I was following ALL the rules 99% of the time, and the more time that has past the more rules I've been breaking. It's hard to stay motivated, I can definitely relate to that. Hopefully you will get the right amount of restriction soon as that's half the battle. Once you're there, it's just making the right food choices and getting ourselves moving. That's been my biggest downfall over the last 6 months or so. But I joined a new gym that I really like, and hopefully I'll continue to be as motivated as I am now. Best of luck to you and keep in touch! I
  12. Hey all, It's been FOREVER since I've been on this site, and I wanted to check-in to see how the rest of you 4/06 bandsters are doing. I've been around the same weight for over 6 months, but am getting back into exercising, which I know is what my problem has been. I would love to hear from you guys, see how you're all going. Best, Boston Girl
  13. you may also want to read the posts about gallbladder issues, as depending on your other symptoms, it could be that.
  14. Hi Eva, I did end up having the procedure done with Dr. Hess and he was and has been really great. He's a great surgeon and besides having my gallbladder out - no fault of his of course, I've had nothing but a great experience. Good luck to you!
  15. So I'm over a year out and did really well until a few months back. I had to have my gallbladder out and had a really hard time getting back into the swing of things since then. I haven't been eating well, I've been drinking way too much, and I'm certainly not working out enough. My wieght has been around the same place for MONTHS, I've even gained a bit of the weight back. I also have to admit that I haven't been on here in a while, it's almost like a source of shame to come on when I'm doing so badly, but know it's what I need more than anything. Any advise, words of wisdom, or even just anyone in the same boat would be greatly appreciated.
  16. For a while now, I've really wanted to get another tatoo, and I've been thinking that when I reach my goal I would get a new tatoo. Then I would never forget how far I've come, and how hard I've worked to get where I am. I also like the idea one of you had about a promise ring, something I would wear all the time, to remind me of what I've accomplished.
  17. I have setup a jar in the kitchen. I pay myself a dollar for every day i workout, and a dollar i eat right. and i am going to pay myself 5 dollars for every pound lost gold band for my pinky. I'd call it my promise ring, PROMISE not to gain it back for a lifetime.

  19. So i've lost 80 lbs and don't feel even close to where I would like to be. I've looked at many different articles on ideal weight for my height (5'6'') and have come up with everything from 130-150. Anyway, I guess I have to see how things are/feel once I am closer to that range, but I'm just curious how some of you have arrived at a goal wieght.

  21. So I have not written a journal entry in forever, but thought I would mention that I had my gallbladder removed on Jan. 23, 2007. I was having pretty regular attacks of terrible upper abdomin pain that would last for up to 6 hours! It was terrible and hard to take, so we decided the best thing to do was to have it taken out. I had the surgery around 5pm on Tuesday, spent the night in the hospital, and returned home on Wed. around 2pm. At around 4:30 I paged Dr. Hess as I wasn't able to even swollow my own spit. He had me come into the office and they removed the 1cc of liquid from my band. I guess there was some swelling from the surgery and that was making it hard for me to get/keep anything down. Mom was with me from Tues. until yesterday am. yesterday was a pretty good day, then last night was bad, throwing up, etc. So i'm done taking the meds as I know that's why i was so sick last night. anyway, planning on going back to work on monday, but I'm going to take it easy and see how I'm feeling on mon. going to get some gatorade now to make sure I stay hydrated.

  23. My surgeon does my fills and the RN is always there...okay by always, i mean the two times I've had a fill/unfill. But as I understand it, Dr. Hess will always be the one to do the actual fills.
