1. Hey all, It's been FOREVER since I've been on this site, and I wanted to check-in to see how the rest of you 4/06 bandsters are doing. I've been around the same weight for over 6 months, but am getting back into exercising, which I know is what my problem has been. I would love to hear from you guys, see how you're all going. Best, Boston Girl

Can anyone drink beer?

I can drink beer, but find most very uncomfortable to drink, so I tend to stay away from them. THere are some beers out there that are less carbonated that I don't have any issues with. I.E. Guinness, Boddingtons, etc.

April 06 Bandsters, how are we doing?

I can't believe we're coming up on our three year!! I started going to support groups recently...yes, it took me a while, but I think it's helping talking face to face with other people who have been banded, even if I'm always the one whose been banded the longest. Hope you're all doing well!
5. I went by today to try to find the water bottle and was so sad they didn't have it! So glad you guys found it, I guess I'll wait to grab it until the next meeting?

need help to get back on track

Hey Starr, Sorry to hear about all of your struggles, that must have been really frustrating to get down to 165 and then b/c of a medication, re-gain some of the weight. First I'll tell you, you're not alone. I was banded in April 06, and where I am very proud of the weight I've lost, I know I have a long ways to go. I've basically lost and regained the same 5lbs for the last year or so, which is really frustrating. I feel like I should be further along by now, but am still very thankful for my band. I'm pretty sure if I didn't have it, I would have regained the 75+ lbs I've lost and probably more! So over the last month, I've been working really hard to always write down everything I consume as well as write down what I'm burning when I go to the gym. I actually bought a Polar heart rate monitor, that allows you to set goals and tracks your progress. I've successfully lost 9lbs over the last month, which is a really good rate. Its SOOO hard, but I've found that the most important part, is going to the gym regularly!. Stick with it, we'll get through this!! Keep me posted on how you're doing.

protein drinks--before OR after exercise

I've heard that the best time to exercise is first thing in the morning before you eat anything. When your body doesn't have food to use as fuel, that's when it starts to use it's "reserve" aka fat. That sounds great and all, but I'm pretty sure I won't be getting up at 5am anytime soon. So the second best option is to eat something low in carbs 90 minutes before you workout. I've been drinking a protein shake 90 minutes before I workout and have seen a huge difference in my performance, which means more calories burned. Bottom line is that we could all read something different everyday with all of the available information; we each just have to do what works best for us. Trial and error I guess!

March update

So, I called Tony from Dr. Hess' office on Friday to see if they got my MMPI test results yet, and he said no but that they should be there any day. He said if I haven't heard back from him by Tuesday to call him...so that's exactly what I'm going to do. My diet is slipping a bit, i'm not staying in my ww points as well as I was, and i'm not working out as often. It's just difficult, but I'm trying very hard. i'm trying so hard to stay on track so hard to pick myself back up when I fall. i'm also just not stable with my personal life, and don't know what to do, J just stays in my head all the time, and wears me out. I can't get over him, and he just uses me up, uses up my emotions. I want to be over him, I want to move on. anyway, this is about my band, nothin more nothin less, but I know he is effecting all that and I just don't know how to end it, how to stop him from effecting me so much ps i'm PMSing big time I promise to go to the gym at least 5 times this week. I promise I promise I promise i promise
15. Hi all, So I thought we could keep a running list of all of our weight loss in one place. I thought it would be helpful and inspirational for us all to keep eachother on track with our progress. If everyone can copy the list below and make changes to your own information and post it, we can each keep our own info updated. I thought we could put weight of first doc appt./weight at surgery/current/goal and then to list your total loss to date. (see my name below for an example) I of course am up for any suggestions if ya'll think of something else. good luck to all. -Bostongurl 4-3: JenRN - 4-3: Picardy3 - 4-3: Mom2Blak - 4-4: Angelu - 4-4: brneyezz - 4-4: judyc - 4-4: Sugar1 - 4-5: Boo ffice:office" /> - 4-6: Klsame - 4-6: Disneynut - 4-10: little one - 4-10: Nissi69 - 4-11: tlj - 4-11: Reyna - 4-11: Vickie1177 - 4-11: dsrjrr - 4-12: Infaith - 4-12: JenWillwin - <O:p</O:p 4-13: Nursekathy2u - <O:p</O:p 4-14: Miper70 - 4 -17: Shackdog - 4 -17: Amourette - 4 -17: Jeepergurrl - <O:p</O:p 4-18: Danaclark2 - 4 -19: Kathi - <O:p</O:p 4-20: Omamoon - 4-20: Indababy - 4-21: Yoda - 4-21: lmt33167 - 4-21: kristielynn - <O:p</O:p 4-22: Alisonb - 4-24: Eficka - 4-24: Ceparano - 4-24: Kat - <O:p</O:p 4-26: Bostongurl - 264/244/233/150 - 31 total 4-26:Tracylou - 4-26: K@t - 4-28: Jellibeanz - 4-28: Susan4794 - 4-28: msheavensent - 4-29: Scneaux - APRIL BADSTERS WEIGHT LOSS TOTALS:

April 06 Bandsters, how are we doing?

Hey Kat, Sorry to hear you've had a rough time, it's certainly an ongoing battle isn't it? I know for me, when I was loosing weight I was following ALL the rules 99% of the time, and the more time that has past the more rules I've been breaking. It's hard to stay motivated, I can definitely relate to that. Hopefully you will get the right amount of restriction soon as that's half the battle. Once you're there, it's just making the right food choices and getting ourselves moving. That's been my biggest downfall over the last 6 months or so. But I joined a new gym that I really like, and hopefully I'll continue to be as motivated as I am now. Best of luck to you and keep in touch! I

Tips for a new runner?

So I went for my first run today...okay, so it was more of a run/walk, but at least i got out there and tried. I've been going to the gym regularly for about a year, mostly using the elliptical and or bike, so I feel like I'm not in bad shape, but my run was a bit pathetic. I couldn't run for more than five minutes at a time, then I would walk fast, run again, etc. Anyway, so i'm very curious to hear from other runners, how much you run, how you started, any tips, etc.

Pain in ribs and back

you may also want to read the posts about gallbladder issues, as depending on your other symptoms, it could be that.
19. Hello all - Just curious if anyone has had the procedure with Dr. Hess from Boston Medical Center. I know he hasn't been doing them too long, but I was hoping to find someone who had been banded by him. Thanks!
20. Hi Eva, I did end up having the procedure done with Dr. Hess and he was and has been really great. He's a great surgeon and besides having my gallbladder out - no fault of his of course, I've had nothing but a great experience. Good luck to you!
21. So I'm over a year out and did really well until a few months back. I had to have my gallbladder out and had a really hard time getting back into the swing of things since then. I haven't been eating well, I've been drinking way too much, and I'm certainly not working out enough. My wieght has been around the same place for MONTHS, I've even gained a bit of the weight back. I also have to admit that I haven't been on here in a while, it's almost like a source of shame to come on when I'm doing so badly, but know it's what I need more than anything. Any advise, words of wisdom, or even just anyone in the same boat would be greatly appreciated.
22. For a while now, I've really wanted to get another tatoo, and I've been thinking that when I reach my goal I would get a new tatoo. Then I would never forget how far I've come, and how hard I've worked to get where I am. I also like the idea one of you had about a promise ring, something I would wear all the time, to remind me of what I've accomplished.

Reword Ideas

I have setup a jar in the kitchen. I pay myself a dollar for every day i workout, and a dollar i eat right. and i am going to pay myself 5 dollars for every pound lost gold band for my pinky. I'd call it my promise ring, PROMISE not to gain it back for a lifetime.
