I want to EAT!!
I'm so sorry. I can't imagine. I'm 8 days out and I'm already of soft foods. It's so much easier now for me. I don't have that slightly hungry feeling that I had the whole week on liquids. How long before you can advance your diet?

A Small Victory Already
Congratulations Bryn!! That's great!

This whole not drinking while eating...
Thank you so much for the video. That was an excellent illustration. I'm only 8 days out. I saw my nut yesterday, and I'm on soft foods now. I actually made it through lunch without drinking. It was hard, but I did it. lol I just hope it becomes easier as I go! I really appreciate everyone's input

This whole not drinking while eating...
I just don't know if I will ever be able to do it. I'm a rule follower, and I'm really trying but I don't think I'll ever get it.

C-pap usage after surgery...
I took mine to the hospital, and they took it when I first started prepping to check the settings on it. After that, they never wanted me to put it one. They had me on oxygen for most of the time I was there, so i don't know. I've been wearing it since I got home, but MAN it dries my mouth out. I have a full face mask, and it has a humidifier, My mouth got so dry that it woke me up in the wee hours. It was so dry that licking my lips and trying to swallow was impossible. I took the mask off, and tried to sip some Water which really didn't feel good to my sleeve. I just left it off the rest of the night. I don't know whether I should wear mine or not??? I'm surprised your dr didn't want you to wear it at all though. I would definitely have to call and ask about that.

6 days post op, calories, and hunger
I'm 6 days post op, and I was allowed to go to purees upon release from the hospital. I didn't then as I had zero interest in putting anything in my mouth! But now I'm feeling that gnawing hunger that you feel in the pit of your stomach. I didn't expect to feel it, and I don't really know what to do about it. Here is what I have eaten today: 6 oz 99% ff yogurt (in this I mix my PPI and my gallstone prevention med) 1/2 low carb slim fast 1/4 cup of oatmeal made with 1/2 cup of milk Water, ice chips, and a sf popsicle When I enter this in fitness pal, it says I have eaten 410 calories...and it's only 1 pm here! That is more calories than I feel I should be having, but at the same time I feel hungry. I'm so confused, and I don't really understand any of it! oh and I've lost 10 lbs in 1 week.

Should this still hurt this much?
mythreechildren2001 replied to Heather~ Sweetdreams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AI am 6 days post op, but I don't have a drain. I do have a lot of pain/discomfort in the one incision from which they removed the excess stomach. I've been sleeping in a recliner. I tried to lie in bed this morning just to see if I would be able to sleep in bed tonight. I was able to lie down, but I couldn't turn over without a lot of pulling and discomfort in that one incision area, so it's a few more nights in the recliner for me. :/ Every day gets better, and today is A LOT better for me. Try and hang in there, relief is on its way!

6 Days Post Op
I was sleeved on the 12th. I haven't taken my blood pressure meds since the day of surgery. I've been checking it at home and it's been very good, so I was kind of taking it one day at a time. I'm off my lortab, but I still have one incision that burns/pulls/hurts. I'm trying to just ignore it, but it's not easy! lol

Sleeved and more confused than ever!
mythreechildren2001 replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AI've been tolerating yogurt very well too. That's how I've been taking my PPI and gallstone prevention meds they gave me. That's the only meds I've been able to get down. I'm scared to chew a flintstone's Vitamin and I haven't tried to drink the Calcium citrate yet either. It does feel like a full time job for sure! I have another 3 full weeks off before school starts (I'm a teacher) so I'm hoping it will be easier then. I dread trying to do all of this while doing teacher inservice and once the students start....hectic!! Thanks for your encouragement and advice. I really appreciate it!

Thoughts on Surgery Today
Bryn~sorry you've had the nausea to deal with. I've only had a couple of moments with that, and taking the PPI they gave me took care of that. I'm feeling better every day, but it's been a lot harder than I expected for some reason. I had buyer's remorse for the first day or two, but it's all good now! I hope you feel better and get some rest!

When did you start taking your Vitamins after surgery?
My dr wanted me to start taking chewable flintstones the day after I came home from the hospital. I'm 3 days post op, and I haven't taken them yet because I'm too nervous! I'm afraid I won't be able to chew them down enough so that it will go down, not hurt, and not come back up!

Sleeved and more confused than ever!
mythreechildren2001 replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AThanks so much! Everyone's input is so helpful and so encouraging. I'm really pleased with my progress and my sleeve, and I was the one who posted as soon as I got home about how horrible it was! Well...I'm a little embarrassed about that now, because I feel fabulous! I look forward to every day because I know how great things are going to be from here. I just want to make sure I do everything right. Thanks again!!

Sleeved and more confused than ever!
I'm 3 days post sleeve and feeling TONS better! I'm so happy to be sleeved, but I feel so confused. So many capsules and vitamins to take, supplements to drink, fluids and proteins! It's a little overwhelming. My first thought was to just stay hydrated. I've not drunk 48 oz, but I definitely feel good about my intake. I ate a WHOLE yogurt a little while ago (6 oz) and then I thought was that too much!?! Should I have been physically able to do that? I've read of people only taking in 3-6 tablespoons, and I ate the whole thing! I ate a whole sf jello this morning too. I'm sipping all day..water, ice chips, protein shake, tomato soup. How do you know if it's too much? I know I've read it all before, but then I can't remember where or what I've read. The dr gave me some guidelines, but I don't feel like it answers everything.

what does this sound like to you?
I've been having a lot of pain at my largest incision site as well. I called the dr's office today to see about getting more lortab in case I have trouble over the weekend. They told me that they don't refill prescriptions over the weekend. They asked me if I've had a BM since surgery, and I told them I had not. I fessed up to not having taken the milk of magnesia they told me to take the night I went home from the hospital and the morning after. They told me that could be the cause of the intense pain I was feeling in that particular spot. So I sucked it up and took the milk of mag. and had it worked very soon afterwards. Low and behold my pain has gone in that area! I don't think I'll need any more pain meds at all!

Hungry after surgery?
Oh thanks for this! They did give me a PPI, but I didn't want to worry about taking that until a few more day. I didn't realize that would help with that. I was just thinking of reflux, and I didn't expect to have reflux until I added more solids. I'll take that right now!! Thanks again!

post op pain meds
mythreechildren2001 replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AI took a dose last night before bed, but I'm going to attempt to get off of it today. I haven't taken anything this morning, and the only pain/discomfort I have is at my largest incision site. It only hurts when I walk, and a pillow doesn't help much. I was wondering if wrapping an ace bandage around my abdomen would be ok??

Hungry after surgery?
I don't fully understand this either. I was sleeved 2 days ago, and I'm hungry, My stomach is growling 'out loud'. lol BUT I don't want to eat. I don't even want to drink, but I'm definitely on the hungry side.

after surgery
I wore home the clothes I wore to the hospital. I took a few extra undies, but I only needed the clean pair I wore home. I just wore the hospital gown. The gas was really bad for me, but walking makes a huge improvement quickly. You might have trouble with the co2 they use to inflate your abdomen, and you might have trouble with the digestive gas. The gas x helps a lot with the digestive gas, and the walking helps with both. My two friends who were sleeved didn't have any problem with gas at all, so you just never know how it's going to go! I just can't emphasize enough how quickly the walking starts to dissipate the surgical gas. You'll do great!!

Sleeved yesterday and just got home
Thanks Suzanne! Yes I'm in the US. I did get pain meds. I just thought I was tough enough not to need them....I was wrong!! I needed them very much!! I had dh pick up some gas x last night, but I've only used one at a time. They've definitely helped, so I think I'll at least double up on them. Passing gas through my sleeve...not fun even with pain medicine, but bearable. Thanks for your input and support!
