I found out on Friday 2/19/10 that insurance approved my surgery; I had gained 30 lbs (NOT by choice) and waited over a year to get that phone call. I didn’t have too many people supporting my choice for the Lapband but I knew it was right for me. I was very excited to start seeing/feeling the results and that didn’t start happening till about 3-4 months in. I noticed I had more energy and I could feel myself confidence creeping back into my life.

It took me about a year to get most of the weight off and maintain it, I was within only about 5-10 lbs of my goal and even that was perfectly fine with me. Then, in August 2011 I found out I was pregnant with my second child and I was excited and nervous because I didn’t know anyone with the Lapband that has had a baby. Honestly nothing changes (except I did try to eat a little more for the baby), one of the tests was kind of a pain was the glucose test to see if I had diabetes (which I didn’t, it’s just a test they give everyone) but you have to drink a bottle of this nasty sweet stuff within 5 min..if you take longer than 8 they make you wait an hr and do it again..but having the band makes drinking in the morning –especially quickly- is very difficult..I also felt some pressure on my port area but nothing major. I ended up having a healthy baby boy in April 2012, as of right now it has been 3 months since my boy was born and I am fitting in pre-pregnancy clothes, I still have to work on it but I am 15 lbs away from goal. I have a 13 year old son also and after him I felt like all I did was gain weight, thank god this one is coming right off.

I am still currently on my journey and sometimes struggle with wants and cravings, I very rarely if ever vomit and when I do it’s only because I ate to fast or took too big of a bite of food. I can eat pretty much anything I just take it in moderation and limit the bad stuff..before I couldn’t stop myself and now I have the best tool ever to remind me “hey..slow down and enjoy it”. I would love to answer any questions if I can so don’t be shy.
