Sore/Tight feeling port
I am only 11 days post op and i have this feeling for the past couple of days. before this i felt perfect, no pain at all. then during the weekend it just out of no where became very sore from my port (the right and above my belly button) and around the front of my stomach. it hurts to bend and stretch. it feels like i have done bunch of sit ups. i got really scared and googled it, most of what i got is that the port is sewn onto a muscle and that its healing and i have probably over worked it. the only work out i could think of that i did was picking up my 25 lb toddler nephew. i was putting him in and out of the car seat and carrying him quite a bit. it didnt hurt while i did it, but that night it was soo sore. i feel better thinking thats what is it, but i also can feel something above my port. like i can rub my stomach and feel the port sticking out, then right above it it feels very firm. im not sure what it is, i am assuming its the muscle that its attached to. i pushed on it, but i dont feel any pain or soreness. hmmmm...

Hi Hi!!! Any College Banders?
Hi lila, I was banded 3/12, and today was my first day back to school too. I was exactly like u, skipping breakfast and only eating when I was starving in class. Well today during my science test my stomach let ms and everyone in class know that I was hungry. So don't worry it'll tell u. That was at a 2 pm class and I hadn't eaten breakfast. After class I came home and drank an atkins drink. The full liquids is much different. But u can drink anything and eat soups. Before it was just broth, but now u can eat creamier kinds. I'm going to make potato soup tonight. Also I'm eating sugar free pudding, the little snack packs are just 60 calories and taste pretty good. Good luck!

Do You miss food?
i dont know from experience, since i have only had the band for a few days, but my friend has had the band for over 3 years and she still eats almost everything she did before. She just eats LESS of it. i asked her today because i was worried that id miss food too! i asked about pizza and she said of course she still eats pizza, the thin crust is easier to eat though and she said she sometimes has trouble with chinese food. so ya she can eat pretty much everything still. but of course, everyone is different. i just hope i can still eat my fav foods, even if it is just a few bites.

day of surgery
you can see the 4 places they cut. the very right is the longest, thats where the port is at.

Lose It iPhone App
i use "myFitnessPal." it does about the same thing i guess. i like that you can type in what youve eaten and it lets you search for what exactly you ate. then it remembers it for other days or meals.

Protien Shakes (Warning: Maybe TMI)
maybe you are lactose intolerant? which means the milk in the shake is whats giving you the diarhea. i am lactose intolerant, so i mix my own Protein shakes with lactose free milk. (mootopia is lactose free and it has extra protein in it). I mix it with "carnation breakfast" mixes.

Traveling After Surgery
Thats true, my moms friend got banded in Mexico. Good to know. Lol when you live in CC you'd rather not be here during spring break. It's crazy here. Plus I'm visiting family, I love Dallas!

Traveling After Surgery
We would probably wait a couple days. Ya I'm not really thinking about how I'd feel. = we have family up there and my grandpa is sick so that's why we are visiting, so the most we would do would be driving from hotel to house to nursing home. I guess we will wait and see how I feel. I usually sleep the whole way there so if I can sleep comfortably I'll be good. Thanks!!

Soda? Drinking while eating?
Ali is absolutely correct. I am still in my two weeks pre op and once in a while drinking a diet dr pepper, because it fills me up and stops my stomach from growling. but i know i can give it up (iv done it before) and HAVE to now . I have become a fan of decaffeinated ice tea sweetened with splenda. btw, my dietician who has the band said that if she is really craving a coke, she will open it early and leave it out until it is flat, then drinks it. I dont like flat soda, so that wont be good for me though. good luck!

Traveling After Surgery
I am having my surgery Friday march 12. This will be the friday before my spring break. My family wants to go to dallas for spring break. (That is 8 hours away). Would I be able to travel that soon after my surgery. I would think as long as we stop and walk around to avoid blood clots, i should be okay right? I am going to ask my surgeon to be sure, but i just want to know your experiences. thanks.

Port Size
Oh I see. Thanks! I couldn't find anything on the internet about it. Ya the dr said I was one of his smaller patients. Thanks again!

Port Size
i went to my pre op appointment tuesday and my surgeon drew, on my tummy, where the incisions will be and then where the port will be. He then said something about more than likely using the smaller port on me. so, just curious, why are there two sizes? and how does the dr determine which size is right? thanks!
