don't get upset, if you have questions call your doctor if you feel that it is necessary, but keep breathing, and you will get there, don't forget your stomach is still swollen, what did you have for surgery? Maybe you should try it without the milk. There are people that have a hard time with dairy, not as many as I thought, but I knew a girl that had the bypass a long time ago, and she couldn't drink any milk or eat ice cream or anything, so it might just be that? But like i said if it still happens with the Water try the Isopure? it is a little expensive but if its all you can get down then I would suggest it to get your Protein in as it has a lot of Protein in it!!!

law001 you have lots of people here to talk to, whats up are you ok? Don't get your self psyched up about other peoples experiences or stressed out on what happens to other people. Every ones experience is different than what yours is going to be. Just remember to follow the rules of your eating and listen to your body. You are going to do great. I am having my surgery on the 19th and I am super excited. Don't let the things you read or hear scare you. I suggest you write down any questions you have and talk to your doctor!!! That is your best reference. Everything that I see on here of things that may or may not happen, it's not everyone, but I talk to my doctor every time I go see him. I don't hesitate to ask him anything. If you ever need to talk people that have had or are about to have the surgery, then your in a good place here. I have met so many nice people on here. So good luck!!!

pupichupi reacted to NMJG in the sleeve, alcohol, & drunk shopping
New sleevers often ask about drinking and the sleeve. Here is why it's a bad idea.
Last night went out for a drink with a friend. Ordered a Decaf coffee with a shot of Jack Daniels. Was doing OK sipping it. After I was done I asked for a coffee refill. Instead the waitress brought another coffee and JD. I should have sent it back but I didn't.
Shortly afterwards an Indian woman from the rez is making rounds in the bar with Indian jewelry for sale. For those of you not in New Mexico, this is fairly common. Anyway, I bought some earrings for $40 that I had no intention or business buying. Ok, they are gorgeous (sterling hoops inlaid with opals) but my shopping self control was shot with the second drink. Don't sleeve and drink! (Unless you can afford it).

Welcome Ndipilato, glad you decided to join our group. I understand your worries about the bypass as I am currently doing my liquid diet to have the bypass in a week and a half, I am actually happy with my choice only because I know my body and my self, and I am ready for this. I also am a yoyo dieter, and too have been a heavy person since I was real young. I am ready for this change and this to be the end of obesity for me. I need this to be and that is why I am putting my full head into it. I hope that you get your decision from the insurance company soon and you are happy with the sleeve. The reason I decided on the bypass was because I had the band back in 2010 and it did not work for me, something happen with the band and made a year of hell for me, so I had it taken out in 2011 and was so discouraged that I didn't have a revision done which I should have and I know that now but because of everything I had gone through I didn't trust something else. So I joined weight watchers thinking that I could do that, and went to meetings and everything I lost maybe 10lbs in 5 months. I have a super bad thyroid that I take meds for and I just think that with that issue it hinders me in losing weight. I went to my doctor to ask about bypass and when he said that if I got the sleeve and that didn't work then I could always get the bypass after right then I was like no way, I am having the bypass I am not going to have a surgery knowing that there is one more that i can get and jeopardize my weight loss with that knowing there was something else I could do. I am all set, so that is why I made my choice!!! Well Welcome and good luck!!!

Hi! I am new to the site! I started my variate is surgery process 6 years ago with the plans to have bypass and again 5 years ago with the same plans but two deaths in my family made me decide that it was a sign! So 6 months ago I started again with the sleeve in mind and everything seems to be falling into place!
My 6 months are up and the info is being submitted to the insurance company hopefully today! My HW was 316. My SW was 278 (I actually lost 20 lbs before I started my 6 months) my CW is around 240. I have always been the famous yoyo dieter and I don't want to do that anymore!
I am an RN and it is difficult to tell my patients what to do to be healthy when I am overweight myself and come from a family who is also overweight!
I can't wait to have surgery and am currently looking at surgery the first week in April providing everything goes as planned!!

Cupcake don't get bummed, when is your next date you meet with the surgeon and sign paperwork and all that? Believe me I know you just want to get it done and get post op, but it will come, and your going to do great. I tell my boyfriend all the time have faith in yourself!!! Everyone needs to have faith in their selves so that is the motivation I live by everyday!!! You will get there. I also will not have a drain, as my doctor does the same thing, he feels that having a drain can just cause a leak, so I am happy about that. I have 12 more days to my surgery!!! I am and have been so anxious. I will be so relaxed after it's over. I have started my preop liquid diet and I am starving so I am drinking Water like it's a drug, cause I am trying to forget how hungary I am???? LOL doesn't work so good????

    Verna,
you should call you doctor, specially with the cough, you don't want to come down with pneumonia. They say it's typical to only drop very little after surgery, you could even gain weight. Your only a week post op, and you have to remember your body is not accustom to that foreign object in your body, so it is going to take a little bit to get used to it. You are eating normal foods already or are you just on liquids? It's ok to put yucky messages up, that is what this site is for putting up good and yucky messages so we can help everyone out. It's good to ask. It means you are truly interested in this working!!! Good luck!!!

pupichupi reacted to ASKSARAH - Sleeve in I love my hubby!
My husband did something similar. He drank shakes with me the first few months and dropped his carbs to a normal amount and cut his portions to a normal portion, Rather than eating 2 lbs of Pasta in a couple of days he cut it out altogether for instance. His reasoning is that he didn't want me to be this super hot woman and people wondering how he is with me, like I married down LOL
Whatever it takes. He lost about 50 lbs. He got frustrated and he hasn't lost much in the last few months. I noticed he is eating out a lot more. But so be it. Its not my body.
So keep up the support for him and be happy!

    Verna,
You just had major surgery. It's only 1 week post op and you should not be eating anything at all if your doctor has you on fluids only. Warm fluids are staying down and that's great.
You probably have a lot of swelling and don't forget you had lots of fluids in the hospital as well. It can take up to 2-3 weeks for body to acclimate to all the changes going on. As Tina said don't be surprised if you even gain weight over the course of the month.
Take it slow, let your body heal right now. This phase is all about healing. Soon enough your going to be running around and eating solid foods that will help you to lose the weight.
Slow and steady, you already made it past the first hurdle congratulations! Now give yourself some TLC you deserve it.

Hi Verna. With all due respect, you should have never gotten on the scale at all. At one week post op you are full of fluids and swollen from the surgery. Don't get on the scale for two weeks. Then you'll see the numbers go down.
As far as feeling like you lost weight, I'm sure you did. It just isn't showing up on the scale yet. This is a lifelong journey and one week out is not the time to feel down.
I can't remember how long it took for me to see nice numbers on the scale after being banded but I recall clearly when I had major surgery in October, that I gained nearly 15 lbs. from swelling and Fluid retention alone. I stayed off that scale for two months and was glad I did because once the swelling went down, so did my weight.
Good luck to you and remember, you didn't gain it overnight and you won't lose it overnight either.

Hey everyone! I just want to send a friendly reminder to everyone that after your surgery remember to walk! I was banded two weeks ago and had a bad experience from the surgery. I spent one night in the hospital under nurses care and ended up with a blood clot in my leg. The nurses never got me up for a walk that night, and the first nurse I had never turned on the booties that go around your legs to circulate your blood. I believe this is why the clot formed. Since I have some medical background I knew going into surgery that I needed to walk afterwards but I was on some strong pain meds and I forgot all about it. Tell whoever is with you post op that you must walk, just in case. I don't want anyone to experience what I've been through with this blood clot.

Went for my first post op visit yesterday. (Surgery was on the 19th of feb) They removed my bandages and everything looks good. I'm down 38lbs and I can have soft pureed foods like eggs, and fish. I feel good. I go back to work in two more weeks. That's what I'm not looking forward too. Lol

Like others said find a local hospital and go to a meeting. My hospital has them once a month and also a support meeting once a month. Those meetings are for before and after surgery people. I have been going to the monthly meetings for over 2 1/2 years but have the band for 1 1/2 years. My lung doctor set up my appointments for me. Thank you doctor for giving me a new life!
Good luck with your journey. What state are you from ? I am from Boston
