  1. I don't understand why you even got banded?
  2. That's funny!!
  3. I don't think that is true at all....My doctor has a very large staff and they are all there 24/7 if you need them. I find that statement very hard to believe.
  4. I say don't do it! You have come this far what is a few more days? There are reasons your doctor has you doing this. I know it's hard...Believe me, I've been in your shoes..... I did 100% Clear Liquids 4 weeks pre-op and 2 weeks post-op and I followed my doctors orders to a T! When I decided to get banded I decided I was going to do this the right way and follow all the rules and guidelines my doctor/dietitian had for me. Yes, it was hard and I got sick of everything but looking back now it was so worth it. If you just can't do it then I would call your doctor and ask. A few more days isn't going to kill you. Good Luck
  5. My pre-op diet was 4 weeks long (and 2weeks post-op) so I knew I had to find a variety of Protein drinks so I wouldn't get burned out on just one or two different ones to get through the whole 6 weeks. These are the ones I found that I liked.. RDT51~ Vanilla was the best and had 51gr of protein Oh Yeah!~ strawberry and Vanilla were yummy and 32gr of protein Pure Protein ~ Cookies and Cream & Banana and Cream, mmm and have 35gr of protein Carnation Instant Breakfast has a pre-made sugar-free drink in chocolate As far as powder goes I LOVE the EAS 100% Whey protein powder in either Vanilla or Chocolate. I make a lot of fruit smoothies with the vanilla. Also I use flavored egg white powder by Jay Robb. It's high in protein and you can use it to make a Protein Drink and it comes in strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. Yummo!! HTH!!
  6. Hamburger does not like me! Breads, pastas, rice...anything that can swell in your pouch I really try to stay away from or I take one tiny bite and that's it. I love potatoes, so far the instant mashed potatoes work the best for me. You can get them in a variety box and they make 1/2 cup servings and I usually can eat about 1/3 of a cup very slowly. One tip my dietitian gave me was any time you eat meat make sure you have some kind of "sauce" (bbq, ketchup, mayo, etc..) for it because that helps it go down easier. eggs are another food that get stuck. Sometimes if I stand while I eat I have better luck with food going down rather than sitting. If I've been having issues...
  7. Are you serious??? Yes I do think you are doing THAT bad! There are reasons our doctors do pre-op diets. If your doctor wanted you to eat a salad every night then he would have told you to do so. If you can't even stick to a pre-op diet how in the heck are you going to stick to a life time of changes? Maybe you aren't ready be get banded? Doesn't seem like you are ready to make life changes just yet. This band is not going to do all the work for you it's just a tool to HELP you. You either need to get serious NOW or reschedule your surgery for when you are really ready to make changes.
  8. I went through the same thing and it's because you aren't getting enough fiber. My doctor has me adding Benefiber to my drinks or food. I usually add 1 Tbs to my morning coffee everyday and that really seems to help. My doctor also recommended Milk of Magnesia (but just a little). I haven't had to use it yet but just keep it on had.
  9. You could have your husband talk to her and he can let her know this is something you don't want to talk about every time you see or talk to her and YOU will bring it up when YOU feel like sharing something.
  10. Yes I am surprised that nobody called to let you know. However there could be numerous reasons why your doctor left the practice that could be personal, legal, contract issues, etc...I would have let the receptionist know how upset you were because they are the ones that usually call to remind patients of their appointments and sounds like they failed to do their jobs. Since they gave you the number of the hospital that your doctor is associated with now, sounds like there must have been some problems with the practice he was with. My BIL was a doctor (until he died suddenly last fall) so I understand the "behind the scenes" of what doctors go through. I hope you get things worked out...
  11. I've been taking Topamax (100 mg at bed time) for a couple of years now for my migraines. This medication has been the best thing for me. Side effects don't last very long and you have to be faithful about taking it. It does take a week or so to get into your system. I had to start with 25 mg and work my way up to 100 mg.
  12. LOL! I have that all the time and I like to say that I have a thunder storm going on in there. A lot of it is air. I asked my dietitian/nutritionist about it and she said I would experience it for a while. My hubby likes to rate my burbs!!
  13. I really liked the pure protein. I had to do a total of 6 weeks liquids (4 weeks pre-op and 2 weeks post-op). I had to find a variety of protein drinks so I wouldn't get burned out on them and pure protein was one I really liked but I couldn't drink it out of the can, had to drink all my shakes in a glass. Atkins was one I could NOT drink..Yuck! RDT51 was another good one to drink...It had 51 grams of protein and the vanilla was yummy!
  14. Isn't when and how much of your fills up to your doctor?? I can't believe your doctor hasn't had you schedule your appointment for your first fill. Yes, I know every doctor is different but that just seems really strange to me and I would never tell my doctor to just give me a little fill. I would talk with him about how things were going with what restriction I was or wasn't having and he would make the decision as to what my fill should be. After all they knows what's best, that's why we chose them. I had my first fill of 2cc's at my 2 week post-op appointment. Claricey, did you have a post-op appointment? What did your doctor say about when he would do a fill??
  15. I'm not a big CL fan but I love the diet Snapple fruit punch! I really miss my sweet tea so I've been making my own with Splenda. I've also gotten a little burned out on all the SF Kool-Aids.
  16. I have had a few "stuck" episodes, one that ended in the return of what I was eating and the others I was able to walk off (in a few minutes) with some pretty good burps a trucker would be jealous of. Since I don't drink with my meals I didn't have anything around me. Maybe next time I will take a swig of my husbands Coke if he's around and see if that helps the situation.
  17. Everything that I read/researched, that my doctor and dietitian told me was not to drink if food got stuck because it made it worse. Like I said in my last post....."It just goes to show you how every doctor is so different". Your doctor lets you have a liquid with your meals mine doesn't.
  18. If your food is stuck you aren't supposed to drink anything. Drinking makes it worse!! If you get up and walk around that helps or burping helps too. I can't believe your doctor says that soda pop is OK to have. It just goes to show you how every doctor is so different.
  19. I had my first fill at my 2 week post-op (2cc's) and my second fill 3 weeks later (2cc's). I had pretty good restriction with my first fill and really having it with this second fill. Not having trouble with drinking but after about 2 tablespoons of food I'm done. Sometimes I can get a little more in if I stand up and eat. I haven't had any trouble with pudding so if I feel a little light headed I have that for a snack. It's sad when you really want to eat that 2 oz of meat and you can't!
  20. CherieLynne, don't forget that Prednisone and cortisone have steroids in them and those can actually make you gain weight. I went in for a fill yesterday and had this talk with my doctor because I have been sick with bronchiolitis and I had to go on a steroid in my nebulizer twice a day and was worried about weight gain. So while on steroids your weight loss might not be as much as if you weren't on them...Just keep that in mind. I know my weight loss was very low while I was on steroids plus I haven't been able to work out. Good Luck!!
  21. My coffee is the one thing I still allow myself to have. I only drink one cup a day and don't always finish that cup. I use splenda and my regular flavored creamer. That is my treat!!
  22. It's amazing how every doctor is do different on how they do everything. When my doctor did my fill he had me lay down and put my arms over my head and he said he could feel my port real good and told me to get ready for a little sting. I didn't get any novacaine or numbing spray just the shot with the fill in it. When he was done he put a band-aid on me and had me sit up and drink some Water. I didn't know what to expect so I took very little sips and whoa! I felt the restriction right away and in my throat area. He said some people feel it in the stomach area or in their chest or throat and when I feel that then I need to stop eating. It really felt like a big air bubble and I needed to let out a big burp!! I get that feeling with the first few bites of eating then it subsides so I am not sure if that is just air or what it is. I hate that it takes me so long to eat and that my food gets COLD before I am even finished. Who wants to eat cold scrambled eggs?:sifone: My doctor said if the 2cc's bother me then to let him know and he would take a little out. I am more thirsty with a fill, anyone else notice this?
  23. Hey everyone!! Well I had my post-op appointment today and I've lost 35.4 lbs!! My doctor was so excited and very proud of me!! He also did my first fill (2cc's) and I go back in 2 weeks and if everything is going fine then he will do another fill. I graduated to pureed/mushies so now I am trying to decided what I want for dinner....Oh the choices!!
  24. I haven't gotten on the scale yet...I need to go buy a really good one plus I am waiting for my 2 week post-op appointment. I knew I was going to have some swelling right after surgery and didn't want to get on the scale and get disappointed. But I know it's going down!!
  25. I think the no drinking with eating will be a little hard a first because I will have been on straight liquids for 6 weeks once I move on to the pureed/mushies and I have been so used to having something to drink with me at all times! If you go out to eat you could always not order a drink to help with the temptation but if something were to have a little trouble getting down you would want a drink so you could have a sip to help wash it down. I asked my nutritionist/dietitian if I were eating something spicy/hot if it would be OK to have a sip of Water if I needed it and she said it would be but just not to take big drinks. This journey is going to be interesting...My bf had it done last June so I am always asking her questions.
