    I Ran A 5K!!!

I love hearing news like this. What an accomplishment, and it sounds like you are learning a lot about yourself through the journey. Keep up the pace of good work. I'm sure you'll be telling us about the Tri-athalon you finished down the road, or the full marathon. What do you see as the key to this success. Please share as I'd like to know what works. Congratulations!!!

    Walking/jogging

I agree with some of the comments on the idea of running. I've never liked running myself, and couldn't think that I would ever get to the point that I looked forward to it. I was banded in Feb 2010. I started out running 1/2 mile at a time, and would build up every week to then a mile, then a mile and a half.......... My weight started out at 301, and my running started when I was in the high 240s. I eventually ran in the Donor Dash in July of that year which is a 5k. Saturday night I told my wife, "I’m going to do it." I ran it in about 42 minutes. I didn't stop. I was proud for getting to that point, and looked forward to running in the mornings. The following week I ran 5 miles at one time. I bottomed out that day as I have sugar diabetes. The doctor dropped my meds even more which gave me more incentive to run.. Then a couple weeks later I did 6.4 which was equivalent to a 10k. That took me 1.5 hours. I never got so winded I couldn't continue. As I was running I was thinking I would have been watching something silly on TV like Dog The Bounty Hunter, or Billy The Exterminator. I was thinking how many years of my life has been spent in front of a TV instead of exercising. Then in November of that year, I fell of the latter in my garage and broke my leg. I couldn't run for 9 months, and the doctors have advised me to try swimming or biking. I don't get the same cardio feeling as I do when I run. Then I had a slip of my band and got back up to 282. I had the h-pylori, so that treatment took some time. Now I'm back on track. My weight is around 265, and I finally got in 3.2 miles 2 times this week. Now by no means am I worried about time. It took around 47+ minutes the first time, and I was 46+ the 2nd time. One of my elderly neighbors can walk as fast as my jog . I'd like to run the 5k for the Denver Komen walk in October. My mom and 4 sisters have all survived breast cancer, so our family tries to participate as many as we can each year. I can tell my heavier weight is effecting my knees. I recommend anyone who wants to run for exercise to buy a good pair of shoes. Just like a read in another post about bikes, running shoes from Target/Wal-Mart don't work for me. I'm 47, and would like to get down in the area of 200-210. I think it would be great if I could do a triathlon before 50. I've learned I can reach anything I put my mind to. Never in a million years would I have thought I'd do a 5k. What I'd like you to take away from my story is that anything is achievable. Even if it's something you've never imagined you'd like. Have a plan, work it, and do your best. Things will always work out. Good luck!!!

    Slippage

I'm sorry to hear about the problem. I had an upper GI Monday, and they said I had a slip. The Dr isn't sure what is going to happen. I have to go for another Upper GI next week. Then he'll have an idea. I'm not sure my insurance will pay for it. I can't afford to miss more work either.
  8. Karen, I'm praying for the same thing. I don't know that I will be able to afford another surgery. This isn't what I expected. I don't want to go through the whole pre-opt diet, and 6 weeks of healing again.
  9. Thanks for all the good comments. Had an appointment today. Opened me up 2ccs then sent me for an UGI. Found I had a slip. "#$$@!!". Sent me back to the Drs. for a complete unfill. Said I have to wait 2-3 weeks. Then go for another UGI. The Dr. is going to look at the x-rays tomorrow, and give his analysis. The X-ray tech told me she had another one today that was able to refill without an additional surgery. Mike
  10. Thanks for sharing. I was thinking it was more serious. I didn't sleep all night. I was vomiting bile since 3 this morning. I am very thirsty right now. I was thinking I had a slip, or some GI problems (ulcer/esophogus problems). Thanks for your comments. Gives me some hope they can fix this problem.
  11. Best wish for you on the banding. I was banded in Feb 2010. At today's weight I'm 83 lbs. down. I know once they take some out, I'll be back to 225. Hope everything goes well for you. Since my banding I've gotten off of insulin, and last week the doctor took me off Actos, and moved me to Glimepiride once a day instead of twice. I still take the metformin twice a day. 1000 mg/each. It's done wonders for me. Keep up the good work.
  12. Not all weight loss is positive. I've never lost this much weight this fast, so I know something is wrong. I'm very thirsty right now. I can't even keep Water down. I just tried to eat a popcicle, and after 5 minutes it came up. I feel like drinking water out of a hose for an hour. Or swollowing a 10 gallon ice bucket of water they use for the football players. I'm getting desperate right now. I know the doctor is the first thing I need to do in the morning.
  13. Thanks for your reply. Do you know what was causing the problem? I was 225 on Thursday. Yesterday I was 222. This morning I was 220, and tonight I'm 218. This isn't normal. I'm leaving a message for the Dr."s team tonight. They said if I kept having problems there were going to do an upper GI.
  14. I have to keep going in for an unfill. I think I was at 9.5 ccs. I started getting full fast, then I could even drink. One day I was really thirsty and trying to drink a smoothie. I had to slowly sip it. I drank about 1/4th of it, then threw up. The first time they took out .5 CCs, the last time they took out 1 cc. Now I'm having the same problem. After eating some soft foods, I'm getting plugged. I just drank some Gatorade, and threw up. I haven't eaten for 4 hours. After they took out 1 CC 1 week ago, I could eat and drink again. The nurse said my stomach may be swelling from stress. Want to know if anyone has had this problem before. Can't seem to drink when this happens. Any suggestions?
