Re-read. I came from WI to Dallas TX.

How do you reward yourself?
I'm past rewarding myself at this point, but I loved going to the mall either to get something new, if needed, or just to window shop!!!! I still like trying things on just because I can.

Butterflies and Rainbows with our American Drs.
Amazing. That is not the word I would use. I guess it was as "OK" as it could be when you're being put under and wake up with five little incisions and 85% of your stomach hanging out in pathology. Scream it from the roof tops? Not really, but I do like going to support groups, I attend four a month. The only time I talk about Dr. D is if someone asks who I used. I paid 12,500 and included all the pre and post op appointments for the first year, for a little discount and I'd have said whatever they want, I suppose. A Mexico vacation, had one of those, Riviera Maya, food wasn't very good except for breakfast. I wasn't that impressed. I did spend week #2 post op in a beach house on the west end of Galveston Island. Sorry ol' doctor didn't pay for that. Didn't really want me riding 5 hours from Dallas, but I begged and promised to get out of the car and walk around once every hour. Again, I will not promote my doctor, I'm a walking/talking advertisement, but only if someone asks.

so everybody pretty much starts eating norm...
My plan had me starting 'normal' at six weeks. They're all different, I think.

Yo Alex! Lets talk Mexico..
You're great Laura, and so much more grown up than me!!

My WLS journey with Alighterme/Dr.Lopez/Mexico the Real Deal
** all this eye rolling, my mom would die** All Texans assholes....I know you're trying to irritate me, but you make me smile. In Texas, that is a term of endearment!!!

Butterflies and Rainbows with our American Drs.
I thought this was an appropriate name for a new thread!!! Seems like we keep hearing again and again about all the doctor's south of the border. Never a bad word, never a leak, never a complaint, not one. Never, never, never. I don't know if people who have had something go wrong are paid NOT post it, are they scared to or if they just kick the bucket and we're never the wiser. Who knows.....I am here to tell you that after reading those "scripts", I feel cheated, jipped, screwed out of a "butterfly and rainbow" experience. I landed at DFW airport from out of state. Nobody from my un-named doctor's office picked me up. Nobody delivered me to the hospital the next morning and nobody, but NOBODY put a chocolate chip cookie on my pillow. Oh wait, that is The Doubletree that does that, wrong board. He insisted that I stick around for two weeks. I had to show up for a one week visit, then a two week visit before I could go back home. How dare he, what was he thinking???? Like I said, cheated, cheated, jipped. Said doctor is un-named to protect the innocent from my "in jest" post. If he wants me to go on and on about him, I DO need a script and a little incentive!

My WLS journey with Alighterme/Dr.Lopez/Mexico the Real Deal
It is terrible to group all together, but when there are lurkers here to advertise/promote - then ALL are suspect. That's just the way it is.

will i ever be able to stop sipping....and just drink it down?
It will be a few months, but all of a sudden, you'll drink like normal.

Slow-losers/Low BMI ers.... do you ever reach goal?!?!
BMI prior to surgery was just under 36. I'm not quite 5'7", but almost. Weight, date of seminar, 228. Weight day before surgery, 205. I reached doctor's goal in 5 months, and my goal, five lbs less, a month later. Surgery was June 11, 2010. I've been maintaining for about 2.5 years. I go between 143 and 147. (Averaged 10 lbs per month after surgery, sometimes more, sometimes less, but slow and steady)

Different doctors from Mexico have different scripts, but basically, they're all the same. Butterflies and rainbows from start to finish!

Is 2-3 ounces my normal
This is what I did, maybe less. Five weeks out I was getting about 400 calories a day. I lost steadily and felt good. I reached goal in five months. My physician never wants his patients to get eat more than 1 cup of food at a sitting. I am 3 years out and cannot eat that much, which is great!

NEW WHEY LIQUID PROTIEN "SHOTS"
I went to protein shots, from GNC, because after 1 week of trying, I was not getting enough protein and because I was spending so much time trying, I was lacking in water as well. These little jewels, 3.5 oz and 43 grams of protein. They tasted just as bad, but I'd hold my nose, take a few sips and rinse my mouth out with water. I'd take a few more sips (I held my nose too, just like a kid) at lunch and I'd finish it off that evening. I'd gotten one in my "to go" bag from Forest Park Medical Center, when I was discharged. I don't think they consider it the BEST protein, but I never had any hair loss, no thinning at all, and my labs have always been very good. I highly recommend this stuff....it saved me!!!

How has VSG Affected your Marriage?
Went from wonderful to adding a "WOW" factor, I hadn't counted on that. It's like the cherry on top of the sundae.

why so many "my journey with so and so in Mexico" posts
I have never gotten the impression that anybody thinks anything like what you've listed and besides that, if people thought my surgeon, right here in Dallas used Jack Daniels as anesthesia in a less than perfect OR. Big deal, I don't care. That is HIS problem, not mine. It is HIS job to educate the public, surely not my responsibility.

why so many "my journey with so and so in Mexico" posts
I've NEVER posted a detailed post that started with my first phone call to Trevor, the seminar, surgery and onto my 1 week, 2 week, 3, 6 and 12 month follow ups. I don't think there is a soul who gives a rat's rear end to hear all that stuff. I have seen a few of the posts, like you say you posted, and I get through the first few lines and move on. I wouldn't take any post like that, seriously. It's a script, approved by someone on staff who is in charge of marketing! We all know it's made up, and I'm not saying there aren't good doctors and good/safe outcomes, but I don't for one minute believe one of these long winded commercials qualifies.

why so many "my journey with so and so in Mexico" posts
Doing a google search for bariatric surgeons, anywhere, country, state or city.....including Mexico, will bring up a slew of information. Including "reviews". It's as simple as that. Again I say, why are THESE doctors the only ones who have patients that give blow by blow details???!!!! How clean, how simple, how safe, no problems, great staff, everything you always wanted to know, but were afraid or to lazy or dumb to find out for yourselves. I look at these "endorsements" and just like when I see a Enquirer headline, I assume it is all exaggerated and/or out and out false!

why so many "my journey with so and so in Mexico" posts
My husband agrees with Lauren. Fake, fake, fake. He said, the price alone will lure some, but they NEED all these carbon copy endorsements about every aspect from the very first phone call, to being picked up at the airport, surgery, no problems and on through being delivered back to the airport.....I even read how wonderful the restaurant is in one of the hotels. C'mon, give me a break. Has anyone EVER, I mean EVER seen any of this with one of the U.S. doctors or any doctor really, outside of Mexico? I have not!! I like my doctor, I'd use him again, I'd recommend him to friends or family, but I know he isn't the only bariatric surgeon that is good here in the good ol' US of A, or Texas or even in Dallas. Unless he wants to add my name to the payroll and gives me a script, he'll have to stick to D Magazine. The 'guilty dog' barks the loudest and boy do they come out of the woodwork!!!

Peanut Butter?
I love peanut butter, but didn't start eating it until I reached goal. I eat it sparingly due to the high calories. 100 calories for one TB. Ugh!!!! I did buy a jar of the Pb2. I had little home I'd like it, and probably not if I was eating a PB&J sandwich but on a graham cracker, it's a lot of bang for your buck, not bad at all. (hubby likes it!)

how to get the protein that is needed
For three years I've been starting and ending my day with a cup of Organic skim milk. That is an additional 18 grams of protein.

Thanks Alex!!! As you can see, Laura knew exactly who you were, and there is no way she stirs up more trouble than me!!! I hope your weather is better today, ours is wonderful, but in a month, I may be whining a little! LoL You really have done good, how far out are you from surgery? I'll celebrate 3 years in 3 days. Yay! I haven't run into a road block, so far so good on this maintenance part, I've been doing it for 2.5 years, we'll see. I do a revaluation about every three months, just because I am a bit obsessive! Have a nice weekend Alex....you too Laura!

Protein~what am i doing wrong
I liked to keep a bag of shrimp in the freezer, I still do. I always have 1% cottage cheese on hand. 1/2 cup is 13 grams of protein. Eggs are good, tuna fish, and I add 1.5 TB of Lite Mayo to a can. Also, from the beginning I start every day and end every day with 8 oz of skim milk, That is 16 grams of protein right there. Good luck, it takes us all a while to figure it out!!

Look what the cat drug up! Hello Alex. You know, I've posted over 1400 times and have been around since Dec 2009 and I had NO idea who you were, don't remember ever seeing or hearing your name, until a day or so ago. Imagine my surprise when I saw your name this morning. New York, huh? How's the weather up there? It's been great here in Dallas. Have a nice day and congratulations on your weight loss. Good for you!! Have a nice weekend.

what is the big hype with greek yogurt?
I've never liked it, it tastes like low fat sour cream to me, and that's what I use it for. I have a couple of recipes that call for sour cream and I substitute Greek yogurt instead. My husband on the other hand, started eating it several years ago when I got some and didn't like it....he still eats it for 'dessert' every day after lunch. We buy the plain without fruit or anything and he adds a Stivia and then the adds some Grape Nuts or a little granola of some sort, the SF jelly. Anything like that. If we have a banana, he might add part of a banana. I don't like yogurt at all, I never have, but I did try this stuff. It's all about the texture I think.
