    December Delights 2009

I have some of the same symptoms you mention. I use oemeprazole for the acid reflux and it works great. If your doc wont give you a prescription Prilosec is the same thing. I also have problems when I lay down. I have GERD and food and liquids wash back and choke me when I sleep. I solved this by not eating after 4pm and not drinking past 6pm. This has sped up my weight loss, also. I get the funny noises, too. Air gets trapped in our big stomach and squirts back up in little bits. I don't think it means anything is wrong. In my book it's a small annoyance. I have problems with my stomach becoming inflamed. Then the passage becomes very small, I vomit a lot of phlegm and even water has a hard time passing. I've had to open my band twice and both times I've gained a couple pounds because I become sooooo hungry when my band is loose. I have to have it on the tight side. Now, if something becomes stuck I baby my stomach because I don't want to open my band again. If I vomit I go on soft foods and liquids for a couple days. I don't understand the flouroscope thing - my doctor has never mentioned one.

Anyone Have Any Idea What's Wrong With Me?

Your band is too tight. This happened to me recently. I tried a hundred ways to live with it because I was losing weight like crazy but finally had to go in and have it loosened a bit. I woke up choking every night and began to worry about my lungs. I'll have a little put back in a month.
  3. I had my surgery Dec 7 and for six weeks had no restriction. By last week I felt no different than prior to surgery. I had my first fill last tuesday - 3cc's. I did liquid for two days then pureed/soft for two. For the past two days I've had toast and a poached egg for Breakfast, no problem. Yesterday I tried a little pork carnita - about 1/2 of a small one. The meat was chopped small and moist. I felt fine for an hour or so until I drank Water. Then I felt overly full and couldn't eat for the rest of the day. In the evening I ate a couple saltine crackers. I felt better this morning and ate the same for breakfast. Then for lunch I had some salsa/quacamole and 10 tortilla chips. I chewed each bite slowly and didn't eat more than 1/4 cup altogether. After an hour I drank water and the overly full feeling hit again. I haven't eaten anything for the past 7 hours and still feel very full. The feeling hits me only after I drink a liquid and gets worse as the day goes on. Do I get tighter later in the day? I have to drink water. What is the best way to do it?
  4. That was almost two years ago and you were right. I have to wait at least two hours after a meal to drink anything. Then I make sure to sip a full glass of water. Make hay while the sun shines!

I have the same problem and can't eat anything past 4 pm and don't drink within two hours of bedtime. I sleep with a few pillows and still sometimes wake up coughing. I'm sure my band is too tight and plan to have it opened a tiny bit soon.

tmaiello, I have had similar problems. My band is too tight but I am putting off having it loosened. I was inflammed last year and my doc opened it up for a month and I gained two pounds. If I don't pay attention to what I'm doing and eat too fast it makes me miserable. I don't usually have to throw up but I get a lot of mucous and cough that up. My nose even runs when I eat too much! I also have GERD so I don't eat anything within 4 hours of laying down at night or I will wake up choking. I also limit liquids a couple hours before bed. I have lost 121 pounds so far and have another 30 to go. I am going to try to behave and stay away from those foods that cause trouble. For example, I recently learned that avocados make me vomit almost immediately. Guacamole is just fine. On a few occasions, I have been eating with friends and not paying attention to my stomach signals. (That's how I became fat in the first place, right? ) I've overdone it and hurt myself. If I end up vomiting, I go on a liquid diet again for a couple days and maybe even soft for a couple days to be safe. Most meats are out of the question for me, too, unless I cut them so small I get tired of eating it. I can eat crumbly foods and soft foods and try to pay good attention to getting plenty of protein. I eat peanuts, greek yogurt and drink kefir. I eat tiny amounts of soft meat - never dry chunks of pork chops. Salads and steamed veges are good and I drink vegetable juice. If I am getting home from work too late to eat dinner I'll have a McDonalds ice cream cone on the way. And nothing tastes better than a glass of ice water for some reason.

I was nausiated and headachy for the first three days of my liquid diet. Then something clicked and it was no problem. Today I start my pureed diet and I don't like anything. I just want a shake. I thought baby food would be a simple thing for my hubby to prepare ( I broke my knee last week and am immobile) but its just plain gross! What are you eating on your pureed phase?

I was banded on Dec 7. After a week I felt great, went back to work and slipped on some water and broke a bone in my knee. What a bummer. More surgery this week. :-(
  10. I had constipation for the first three weeks of the liquid diet. Then, I guess my body adjusted because now its normal. I made sure I sipped Water all day, too. Today I start pureed! Hooray!

I can't burp either. Just have to wait till it moves to the other end.:mad2: No wonder they say nor more carbonated beverages.

    Cooking for the family

I felt awful for the first three days of liquid diet but I found that constant sipping of clear liquids helped. I think sometimes headache comes from not enough fluids. On the fourth day it clicked and got much easier. I didn't do any cooking for the first two weeks but have been cooking for my husband the last few days without problem. I can't wait to get to my pureed phase! That seems weird.

I had my preop physical at day 10 of my liquid diet and only lost 7 pounds. I was disappointed, too, but on surgery day I had lost almost 14.
  14. I was banded Monday the 7th. I'm on liquids two more weeks, pureed food for two weeks, then soft foods for two weeks before normal foods.

I was glad I started the liquid diet two weeks ahead of surgery. I became ill the first three days. I think part of it was lack of caffiene but it really kicked my butt at first. I was relieved I didn't have to go through that immediately after surgery.

OMG! I couldn't have gone right to work. Today (day 5) was the first day I thought I was feeling well enough to go to work.

    December Delights 2009

I was banded Monday, Dec 7. It was early evening when I got out of surgery and the doc gave me the option to stay. I could barely breath. All the gas was under my diaphram and I was miserable. They gave me Tordal and it killed all the pain. I love that stuff! I don't know what I would have done if they sent me home right after surgery. Tuesday at home I still felt miserable but found that walking made me feel better. I couldn't get much down other than hot tea and ice Water. Today I have finished one Protein shake in many little shots. I am passing a lot of gas and feel better with each one! The nurse told me to leave on all the surgical strips they placed over the incisions until they fall off. I have been worrying about the one over the port area. Its pretty bloody and that can't be good to leave over a fresh incision, could it? Should I replace it with a clean bandage?

Ok, countdown! I can't "eat" anything after midnight and clear liquids only until 10am. My surgery will be at 2pm tomorrow. I'm starting to get nervous and am scouring these boards for what I can expect post-op. I'm happy to have found you all!

    1st day of liquids

I would have to say the second day is the worst! I'm on day six but after three days I've felt great, though!

    1st day of liquids

I started liquids on Monday and was ill for three days. What a shock! I didn't think I could make it two weeks but suddenly I found my grove and I've felt fine since. I was so relieved! I think the secret is to keep sipping liquids in between "meals." Now, I feel fine other than (whispers) constipation. I need to figure that one out. No wonder they make us do this two weeks before surgury. I would hate to be in recovery while adjusting to liquid diet at the same time!
