  1. I'm back! I got home a couple of hours ago and promptly took a nap. According to my surgeon, the surgery was picture perfect." Let me tell you though, the gas pain in my chest was scary awful. I felt like I couldn't breathe when I first got to my room. The nurse thinks it was because I was in the post anesthesia area for a while (due to my room not being ready). That meant I was on my gurney, flat, for about 3.5 hours after the surgery. The gas just sat on my chest I guess. Anyway, when I got to my room, the nurses had me up walking and that helped a bit. Still had to take lots of pain med by injection right up until this morning before I left for home. What everyone says is true...walking, walking helps! I can breathe better today, but deep breaths are still kinda hard. At the the hospital, every time I woke up I walked around the nurse's station over and over and over. When I woke up this morning, the gas pain in my chest was better (not gone but better). Gas-X didn't help a lick. Walking is the key! I feel kinda itchy today, not like an allergy itchy, I just find myself gently scratching my skin. Maybe I'm just dry (it's cold here again in western NY).
  2. Thanks Lucky and BG! Your support means a lot. It's nice to know you're there, willing to help. See you on the other side!
  3. Hi fellow March 22 surgery people, Woo Hoo! Our day is almost here! I've lost 10 pounds since I started the liquid diet on Tues, 3/16. Gotta take magnesium citrate at 2:00 today (why, I am not sure, I've already been "running" to the bathroom today ). I am not scared (yet), but I really just want to get this done!      :smile2: :tongue2:
  4. Thanks, Luckydog. I've subscribed to your blog and really enjoyed reading all your posts. It was very informative for me, especially since I'm preop (well only preop for a bit longer). Your ski pictures looked like so much fun!

I've read all your blogs and looking forward to reading more. I'm having my surgery tomorrow, 3/22/10. Wish me luck!
  6. 3/20/2010 Well, here I sit, about 33 hours from checking in for my surgery. This month has really gone by fast. I've been on a liquid diet consisting of 3 Atkins shakes a day, sugar-free drinks and jello, and water since 3/16. The first 3 days were hard. I even felt kind of faint after my shower yesterday. My friend thinks I had a vasovagal reaction from the hot shower, so today I took a lukewarm shower and was fine. Today I also didn't feel as hungry. I even forgot to drink my lunch shake and never had it until 3:30. I did cheat a little and had some low-fat, low-salt chicken broth because I was getting kind of sick of all the sweet stuff. I'm feeling pretty calm considering my surgery is so close, but let's see how I feel tomorrow night at this time! I'm glad I have to report to the hospital so early on Monday (5:30) because I'm pretty sure I won' sleep very well tomorrow night anyway!

  8. My surgery is 3/22, too. On day 4 of liquid diet now. It's pretty hard. This morning I actually felt faint after my shower. I think I had a vasovagal reaction from the hot shower. It passed quickly, but tomorrow it will be a lukewarm shower for me!
  9. Neat! Same day! Do you have a preop diet? This is the start on my 3rd day, and after just the first 2 days, I had lost 6 pounds! yippee!
  10. Happy birthday & band day! Hope you are doing well tonight! :cursing:
  11. Day #2 of my liquid preop diet. I started a day early because I was getting so tempted to eat poorly and just decided to start the preop diet. So far so good!
  12. Welcome, Robin! I know how you feel. Nervous, scared, happy, all at once! You will find lots of support here at LBT. Tons of information here and people at all lap-band stages. I, myself, am preop....having surgery 3/22. Most days I am really excited about, but sometimes kind of scared and worried that I will be the one to have problems, but I am forging ahead and ready to go!  Good luck!
  13. I second that.... I always look forward to reading your posts, Btrieger. :smile2:
  14. Wycole, I've been watching your videos on Youtube. They're great and very informative for me as a preop person. I'm having my surgery on 3/22 and will be taking a week off. A coworker is having her lap-band placed on 3/30, so I really should get back (the only other person in our office is very new on the job). From your experience, a week seems to be about right? I have a very sedentary job so the surgeon thinks as long as I'm off the prescription pain medicine, I'll be good to go back in a week, but it's nice to hear from actual people how they feel about that!
  15. Sounds really delicious! I'm printing your recipe off and will definitely try it. Thanks for sharing.
  16. Chicago29, Do you buy your thick protein shakes ready made or mix them up yourself? What brands are good? I've only tried EAS and Muscle Milk and while they taste ok, they are more the consistency of chocolate milk and not very thick.
  17. Twenty-two days before my surgery. It's already been quite journey. I've been overweight for 20+ years. Tried just about every diet out there, Diet Workshop (bet nobody remembers that one), counting calories, phen-fen diet pills, Weight Watchers, Atkins, Weight Watchers again, Susan Powter, counting calories, Weight Watchers yet again. At first, I'd lose 20 or so pounds, sometimes more, but I'd always gain it back. I starting thinking about weight-loss surgery a couple of years ago. Finally, I mentioned it to my daughter. She was so supportive and offered to go to the seminar with me. We went to the seminar in October. I made my appointment with the surgeon in November and things really got rolling....psych consult, dietitian, sleep study, lab work, etc, etc. I also had to lose 5% (13 pounds) before my case would be submitted to insurance. Well, I lost 16 pounds and insurance approved me for surgery in Jan. After my EGD (upper endoscopy), I got my date, March 22. I've lost some more weight (about 19 total) & now I'm just trying not to regain. I've got a bad case of "last supper" syndrome. :rolleyes2:

A few pictures of me before my lap-band surgery.
  22. Four weeks and 2 days for me. Has anyone started their preop diets? How are they going? I'm starting my 5-day preop on St. Patrick's Day.
  23. Hi everyone, My surgery is set for 3/22. What type of preop diet is everyone doing? I'm supposed to do a 5-day liquid diet with Atkins drinks and sugar-free Jello, broth, etc.
  24. Date of Surgery: March 22 Where Surgery will be: Rochester, NY Doctor/Center: Dr. Gandhi/Rochester General Seminar dates: 10/2009 and 11/2009 Consult date: 11/13/2009 2nd consult: 1/15/2010 and 2/12/2010 Consults and tests completed: Psych, Sleep Study, Nutritionist, upper endoscopy. Still needed: 3-hour class in surgeon's office and preop labs, chest-xray, EKG, and physical. How is surgery funded? Excellus BCBS Concerns? Not really, just the usual presurgery worries (I hope I don't have any complications). Reason for banding? I want to be healthier and feel better (of course, looking better doesn't hurt either!)
