I'M a physician assistant, PA, 20+ years. More often then not, I have to tell patients weight loss will cure their ills. My job is to tell them the best of my medical knowlege, regardless of my own personal choices and habits. It's always easier to dish it out....

Friday-- Time for some jokes. Any good ones out there?

My office, Gastroenterology, frequently deal with items put into the body. They laughed at this premature removal of the family jewels.

So, I told my 12 year-old twin girls about my plan to get banded. They have weight issues of their own and wish they could have the same procedure to help them. When I mentioned that a small amount of food would be filling me up, they told me it's not fair to brag about it. So, I haven't been talking about it. I don't have my procedure scheduled yet since I'm still trying to get insurance coverage. Any thoughts? Thanks. :faint:

So, today I turned on the tv and it went to a porno channel. I asked my hubby (of 15 years) about this and he tries to tell me that he just came across it channel surfing. Hmmmmm. So, I check the purchases on tivo, and, guess what? Many porno movies were bought in the past months. All without my knowledge. Believe it or not, I'm not a prude. I'm unhappy that he needs to watch porno in private to "reduce stress". I'm thouroughly bent out of shape about the lies occuring for so long. He tried real hard to lie his way out of this one. I can't help but worry there are other lies out there. What now?

Earlier I asked whether or not to tell my 12 year-old daughters about my scheduled banding procedure. The answers were thought-provoking and straddled the tell 'em/don't tell 'em fence. I wanted to see if a poll received more imput. So, they are 12 and beginning their journey to maintain a healthy image and fight that battle of the bulge. And, as twins, it is really hard that already one is known as the bigger one. Unfortunately, I can't stop the world from budding in, especially from well-meaning family members. So, Yes tell them, No, not now... I also am a healthcare professional for the past 20 years and see patients with various eating disorders. Most of these problems begin as a preteen and are exacerbated in the teen years. Many of them become very unhappy adults with severe psychological disorders. When all is said and done, doing what's best for my kids is more important than anything else. Thanks for you're time and help! I've got 2 daughters, twins, 12yo. They are struggling with their weight and puberty. My gut (no pun intended) says keep quiet about this procedure while their young egos are trying to stay at a healthy weight. But they're nothing if not smart, and could inadvertantly find out. My first surgery consult is in 2 days. Any thoughts?:rolleyes

Thanks for answering so quickly! You are the very first person to respond to my very first day as a lapband talk member! It does seem frustrating to gain weight in order to lose it...by the lapband. According to the insurance, I do need to weigh more or have more serious problems. The main reason I want the lapband is after 15+ years of weight loss that is always followed by (more) weight gain, I'm just tired of it! I can go on one more diet, I just can't go on 100 more diets! I have my first appointment with the surgeon on Monday, August 28. I'm not sure that my BMI and my medical history are enough to get my band covered by insurance. Trying to cover the costs of the lapband without insurance would be a deal breaker. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank youu for your help! Thanks, Winner, or soon to be:help:
