  1. OMG WHAT A SMALL WORLD!!!! IM IN THE NEURO ICU....SPINAL CORD INJURIES, BRAIN TUMORS....OTHER TRAUMAS LIKE MVA's.... WE REALLY DONT HAVE LIGHT DUTY, BUT I WILL FIGURE SOMETHING OUT!!! THANKS DOLL!!
  2. :glare:Ok so here I am almost 3 weeks out of surgery, and while I have lost 15 lbs, I still havent returned to work yet. I am a neuro-trauma ICU nurse and I work 12 hour shifts on a very busy floor in Philly. Sometimes my patient load can be very heavy....2 patients weighing 250+ pounds each at times is a little stressful on the body!!! My situation is this.....I was to return to work today and I got soooo anxiety-filled that something was going to happen to my port or my band if I return to work not feeling 100%. I know that feeling of something foreign in my body will probably not go away for a long time (if ever!!), but I just nervous that I am going to do some damage to myself while in this fragile state of healing. I currently have a 25 pound 9 month old that I'm not supposed to be carrying around (yeah like that;s a possibility!!) so now I'm wondering if work is just gonna be too much right now. I do have a great group of co-workers that are extremly helpful and I am prepared to explain to them that I NEED HELP, BUT AT THIS TIME IN MY LIFE, I CAN;T BE A HELPER So I'm looking to see if there is anyone out there that had any problems going back to work after surgery, and if there is a possibility that anything could cause harm to the band??? Or if there are any nurses out there who may have been in this situation....how didi u deal with it?? Thanks for all the support in advance!! Go weight loss!!

  4. Hey everyone...I too am 2 1/2 weeks post-op and have not had a fill yet nor do I get one for 4 more weeks.....slow and steady says my doc. Anyway, I have lost 15 lbs so far and feel awesome. I can tell that the restriction is there without even having a fill. I also have realized that this BANDING is more about will power than anything. I havent cheated let alone had a sip of anything outside of crystal lite or water, and although I have just went on to the soft stage, I almost feel as though my doctor "turned off" all my desires for carbs, sweets and all the other things that normally I would be woofing down all day. I figure out my protein for each meal, eat and then stop because I FEEL full. That's the key....eat slow, chew alot, savor it in, and STOP when enough is truly enough. I know this is a mind-game that you have to trick your body into right now, but in the end, we will be that thin person inside that we all know is there!!! All my boys will be home soon with Halloween candy, cookies, and my FAVE cupcakes....and I have NO intention of eating one ounce of anything....WHY and HOW???? Because I am on a mission....to a happy and healthier me!!!
  5. hay congrats!!! i read your posts alot and i have to be honest...they give me inspiration every day!!!! i am 2 weeks post-op and actually not doing tooo bad. It helps that I am super motivated and havent cheated ONCE!!! (I even just made some cupcakes~which b4 band I would have licked the cake batter till I was stuffed...and didnt taste a drop of it!!!) I dont feel as though I am depriving myself...just traveling a new path to a better me and I dont need tiny pitfalls just yet. I know a day will come when having a cupcake (just ONE) will be ok, but now I only have one thing in mind...a better me!! thanks for all your words of wisdom...and again CONGRATS to you!!!! You go girl!!!!
  6. hey there....i had terrible gas pains beginning the day after surgery while i was still in the hospital...the nurse told me to walk and take gas-x chewables....and to be honest...it did FINALLY go awat after almost a week....subsiding a little more each day. I think that was the worst part of all of this!!!! hang in there....it gets soooo much better!!!! welcome to the Banster Club!!!
  7. hey there....i had surgery on the 13th of october and all i had to do was clear diet the day b4.....nothing along the lines of some other people who have to diet for 2 weeks or more....good luck and lemme know how you make out!!!
  8. hey there!! I was banded on the 13th of thos month!!! Lap-Band buddies!! I too felt prepared for the liquid phase, but that was over soon and I was supposed to advance to mushy stuff...SOOO here i am and I'll tell you what I have had so far....egg beaters, tuna, turkey chili w/ some shredded cheese on top microwaved for 2 mins, oatmeal with some unflavored protein powder and splenda....and so far everything has been fine. Kinda have to get a lil' creative and I ran everything thru a chopper/food processor thing....i lost 12 lbs in 10 days and I am super motivated!!! we can keep each other motivated!!! kepp in touch and good luck AND CONGRATS!!! Cathy (btw, im 5'10 too and started 275 lbs!!!)
