  1. I think she is referring to this "medical" thread where you had no objections to sperm being refered to as man juice; swimmers or jizz. A VERY strange (possibly offensive) question. ***read at your own risk...*** - LAP-BAND
  2. It could also be the time of day that you weighed yourself or using 2 different scales. I only expect to drop 6-8 pounds in my two week pre-op because I have modified my eating habits.
  3. I could live without ever eating a steak but don't you dare tell me that the band ruins scallops. Those succulent, sweet, expensive mollusks are in my top 10, perhaps 5 foods. I bought a pound of sea scallops last night and ate all of them. Once banded, I am hoping to at least enjoy a half pound of them on occasion.
  4. Smitten, you can tell your own story here or read many others. There is a blogging section on this site. It is not as organized and as easy to navigate as Linda's but there are some good ones there as well. The "BLOG" link is in the top left, next to "HOME". LAP-BAND
  5. And ponies, we can't forget those disgusting ponies
  6. Catherine, You just don't get it. I compared something as beautiful and delicate as a sticky, gooey, bloody mess with cute little ponies and snow white cotton. I am so ashamed.
  7. Welcome! Congrats on the weight loss and good luck with the fill.
  8. Guilty as charged as far as abrasive goes but I would call it being frank. I treat everybody the way that I would like to be treated. Don't beat around the bush, patronize me or offer pity. Just give me the facts if you know them or your honest opinion. Fills do NOT trigger weight loss. The consumption of less calories is what trigger the loss. Even if the fill is what makes you consume less, it is not what causes the weight loss. It may just be semantics but some people don't seem to get the whole concept. And lastly, I'm not even newly banded yet. :w00t:
  9. I am outside of either realm and won't vote for a candidate in either major party. I've been called conservative because I don't want the government giving my tax dollar to any lazy yahoo that begs for it. Yet I donate plenty to charity. I've been called liberal because I think gays should have the same rights that straights do and because I think a woman should have the right to abort an unwanted pregnancy. Yet, I don't think my tax dollar should pay for either.
  10. TN, I don't think you can split people into only 2 groups based on their ideologies. If I had to think narrow-mindedly and choose either conservative or liberal, I would definitely choose conservative. A liberal would expect the government to take the 1,200 kids shopping on my tax dollar.
  11. It kills me and I am a high school drop-out! I try to look past it but I can't.
  12. What everyone else said plus: You have to take supplements for the rest of your life with bypass. Bypass is not reversible. The fatality rate, although small is more than times greater with bypass. You can always have bypass later if the band doesn't work for you. Good luck and remember the final decision is yours, not some doctor.
  13. The age limit when I was in basic training in 1982 was 36 but that was a long time ago. Jen will definitely know if she comes back by this way.
  14. The great thing about penis envy is that you don't have to be schooled to recognize it.
  15. Her intentions were not as innocent as they may appear. Her character is more obvious in this response from another thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f84/help-boss-announces-whole-staff-about-surgery-108319/#post1395573 It was not kstate that upset the hive, it was Mickey Mouse saying the "other" is offensive.
  16. I should have qualified my statement with: In my opinion, an addiction is physical and a compulsion is mental.
  17. Should I bother using the phone coach? I have until March 1st.
  18. There is no need to have surgery if you plan on joining the military. Trust me, they will take the extra pounds off of you in boot camp whether you like it or not!
  19. I'm with Betsy on this one. I have a problem with alcohol, gambling and food. None of these are addictions for me. They are compulsions. I hide behind them or use them to fill in voids in my life. Finding a non-destructive hobby will definitely curb all of the above. Calling it an addiction is just a way of justifying your actions to yourself and others. Deb, You did great for a couple of weeks but were you depriving yourself of the things you now crave? If so, that is where the problem lays. There are no bad foods when eaten in moderation. It sounds like you may have been trying a little too hard. Meet in the middle and eat at a rate where you will lose half as much as you were over the last couple of months. You'll still lose weight, yet you won't be depriving yourself as much.
  20. You have to forget about diets and start thinking about altering your eating habits for the rest of your life. Diets deprive you of certain foods and only make you crave them more. Diets also have end dates. You are in this for the rest of your life. Even after you are banded you will be able to shovel in tons of food until you have restriction and that could take a long time. Throw out the South Beach book and any other fad diet media you have laying around. Do not wait until Monday or another minute. The rest of your life starts now!!!! Start slow. Don't change a thing you are eating, just cut 1/4 of it off and throw it away. Then chew slower so it will take just as long to eat less. Try and eat only 3 meals a day and space them 4-5 hours apart. If you are hungry in between meals, grab a 100 calorie snack. Chips and cookies are fine in moderation. Do not eat out of boredom or convenience because you are walking by a vending machine or the refrigerator. Journal everything that passes your lips. You can do this on paper or online. Drink at least 64 ounces of water a day. This is very important. Try and walk at least 150 minutes a week. You can split this up any way you'd like. After you've done this stuff, then you can start thinking about replacing some of what you are eating with healthier alternatives. I have been doing everything I just listed and am dropping 3-5 pounds a week. I am not hungry, nor am I tempted to go to a buffet somewhere. I will be banded sometime next month so I will have a safety net. YOU CAN DO THIS!!
  21. Only had to complete 3 months but I have dropped 68 pounds since my initial consultation on September 18th. I should have a date for surgery any day now.
  22. I suggest you re-read it and try not to be defensive. He is giving you the facts, warning you of some of pitfalls and congratulating you on coming as far as you have.
  23. I read the original post as being facetious and showing frustration with those that keep posting about their bands not working like they should and those that respond with, "it will work after a fill or two" without ever delving into the fact that they have to change their lifestyle in order to make the band work. I can't figure out if they are being patronizing or are just plain ignorant as to what the band actually does.
  24. I don't think men have much of a problem with this but you can always just brush them off and say you haven't weighed yourself in a while or change the topic slightly and start talking about how much healthier you are or how much better you feel.
  25. Is he prepared to make the sacrifices to work out with you and modify his eating habits along with you for the rest of your lives? Have you tried this with him? What is his reaction when you falter on your nutrition or don't feel like working out? Surgery should be a last resort and it isn't going away. You are young, take your time and work with him to make your decision. Although you are both thinking differently about it, it doesn't mean either of you is more right than the other but in the end, it is your life and you have the final say.
