  1. Hey everyone...I am doing good...I had my 2nd fill earlier this week, seemed the 1st one did not do the trick. The 2nd one is working for me so I am hoping to start sheding some poundage a little quicker than I have been!! I have joined Curves and that is going ok...I just HATE to exercise. I was going to the mall and doing my walking, I had to stop doing that...I was going broke, can't seem to pass up some stores! I hope everyone else is doing good and by now we have all had or surgeries. My doctors office has a support group and I found that helpful...I hope everyone else is getting the support they need to be successful with their journey. Susan
  2. I have all the same medical conditions as you except for the fatty liver. My surgeon and my PCP both recommended by pass for me but i did not want to go that drastic and permenant. Their reason was because of my diabetes, they said that that the odd's to improve that was better with the by pass. Well I stuck to my guns and had the band and am very happy with my decision so far. My blood sugar number since surgery is about half of what it was pre surgery. I am hoping to get off some of my meds with this diet or at least get them reduced! Good luck!
  3. I am in Texas so I don't have your doctor either but.... Congrats on getting your surgery date! My pre op with my doctor was pretty much to discuss which surgery I was going to get, at the hospital they just did my blood work and an EKG...and got all the paper work in order. I had to have other tests pre op though. I had to have the sleep study to see if I had sleep apnea, I had an EGD to see if I had a hiatal (sp?) hernia and then I had to have an session with a psychiatrist and a nutritionist. I did not have to stay over night at the hospital so I was at the hospital at about 9am, surgery was about noon or so. I had to get up and have the barium drink so they could do an xray to make sure that the band is working right and I was home by 5pm. Felt pretty good right after surgery (that night) the next day I was sore. I slept in my recliner for the first week because I was not comfortable sleeping in the bed (I am a side sleeper). All in all the first week I was sore but it was not horrible pain (and of course I had drugs!!). The liquid diet sucks...but follow your doctors post op instructions and you will do fine. It is well worth the few days of discomfort for the reward of losing the weight and getting healthier!! As the time gets closer you will have all kinds of emotions and concerns about what you are about to do. But trust me you are not alone most all of us had the same feelings and concerns. I bet most everyone on this website is happy with their choice to have the band and have no regrets with their decision. Good luck!!!
  4. I have lost 17 lbs since my surgery. I had my first fill 2 weeks ago, I called and made another appointment for tomorrow because I do not feel hardly any restriction and still feel hungry after eating. I feel I am doing my part and I want my band to do it's part. Hopefully I will get another fill tomorrow that will help.
  5. I also didn't feel any differnce after my first fill (1.5 cc's). It's been about 2 weeks since my first fill. I called the doctors office and have made an appointment for Monday to see about another fill. I'm not sure he will do it but I don't seem to have much restriction now. As far as gas...OMG...I have gas pains a lot and feel bloated about 50% of the time! What's up with that?
  6. I have the regular flu shot every year although I had a bad reaction to it years ago but they have changes it since then. I won't get the H1N1 vaccine though...no specific reason. I also got sick right before my surgery, like a 1 1/2 weeks before..I immediatley went to the doc and got on antibiotics. I was off of them about 4 days when I had my surgery and had no problems. I still wasn't 100% well but I did not want to postpone my surgery!
  7. Be careful of the bullion...there is a LOT of sodium in there, unless you were able to find the low sodium ones. I slept in my recliner for the first 4 days after surgery, I am a side sleeper and I am still sleeping with a pillow btwn my tummy and the bed to be more comfortable. Welcome aboard and best of luck to you!!
  8. Welcome fellow Texan. I hope you get approved quick...the waiting is not fun!!!
  9. Wow...you are doing great on your pre-op diet! Welcome to the site and good luck with your journey.
  10. I saw it this morning also...looked like it would do a good job. I have the Magic Bullet and it works good for me. I use it now mostly for protein smoothies.
  11. I have UHC and had my surgery last month. I was approved right away. My BMI was 40, but I have high bp and diabetes. I also have a history with my PCP of over 5 years of obesity. My doctors office told me that I would have to do the 6 month weight management program but I called the insurance company and was told my policy did not require that. I think it depends on the terms of your policy not just the insurance company.
  12. Hi Karen, Glad to hear that you are doing good. What area of Houston are you in?
  13. I thought that it was a little soon also but when he took my stitches out he told me to make an appt in 2 weeks and he would do my "adjustment" which I am assuming is a fill. Right now I have very little restiction, I eat very slow and small amounts at a time so I haven't really pushed it to see how much I can eat. I figured that the procedure was not going to be that bad but you know...the fear of the unknown and from what I have been readin every doctor is different. Will you be at the support group meetingthis month? I will be able to make this one and I am looking forwad to meeting other's that see Dr Bonnor. Thanks again. Susan
  14. I can't get past the glob of goo in the Isopure punch drinks........ick! Worse than a worm in the tequila!

I would be thinking how freaky he would have to be to get his penis pierced! Scary...
  16. I go for my first fill next week and I am a little scared. Does Dr Bonner put anything on the port site to deaden the area a little before he starts probing around, does he do a sonogram? I guess if you could just explain the fill process to me I would feel better. Thanks!
  17. Approval depends on your insurance, if you are going that route. When I started I was told that my insurance required a 6 month pre op weight management period. I was told this by my doctors office, I called my insurance to find out about it and was told that my policy did not require it. From my first doctors appt. to surgery was about 5 weeks. Good luck and try not to let the wait stress you out, your time will be here before you know it.
  18. Welcome.....I was banded on 9/22 and did not do pureed either. I am getting off my liquid diet on 9/13 and starting my "soft foods" or mushies. I just met with my nutrisionist yesterday and she said that I was doing good. I have lost 12 lbs since surgery. I am so looking forward to getting to chew on some food next week!
  19. I don't have fibro but my sister in law does so this thread peeked my interest because she is thinking about lapband surgery (I just had mine last month). Anyway...if massage helps could the doc give you a prescription for a rehab facilty and get it covered by insurance? Just wondering if that might be an option.
  20. Yea....it will be here before you know it! So we will be right at a month apart. Here is my direct email so we don't have to go through this thread susan1955_99@yahoo.com I get lost in these threads sometimes. I have been taking my pain meds twice a day, in the morn and at night so that is not too bad. I go for my follow up visit next Thursday.
  21. No, I didn't stay the night at the hospital. My surgery was about noon and they let me go about 5pm. It is more comfortable in the recliner, it is a little uncomfortable to lie down but I will try tonight to sleep in my bed. The pills are my regular meds, blood pressure, diabetes, vitamins..the pain med he gave me in liquid. I am feeling much better this morning. Where are you going to have your surgery, mine was Mem Herman, Memorial City.
  22. Congrats!!!! Yep, I am home sore but doing pretty good. I slept in the recliner last night and will tonight also. Getting my pills down (crushed) this morning was really bad...very bitter. Let me know when you get your surgery date. susan1955_99@yahoo.com Susan
  23. yes, I had my gall bladder surgery the old way with the drainage tubes. Had my tubes tied the lap way. I am curious to see where he puts my port since I had a hernia on that side there is mesh there.
  24. Clay's is on Clay Road btwn Hwy 6 and Barker Cypress. They have a place for kids to feed and pet horse's. cows, goats chickens, peacock's etc...and lot's of play space for the kiddo's. But the burgers are good and I enjoyed mine today. ( :
  25. I already have a large scar on my right from gall bladder surgery back in the 80's and then they reopened it about 5 yrs ago because of an insicional hernia. I'm not sure where my port will be but I will find out tomorrow. Did any of you have to have drainage tubes left in after the surgery?
