Rocky_Mountain_Mama got a reaction from PuddinJasper in Surgery tomorrow - I’m scared!!
My surgery is also tomorrow and I’m feeling a lot of this too. I’m revising a band to gastric bypass so I feel like, I’ve dive this before, so why the heck am I so nervous?! I think for sure a lot of it is the Covid stuff, and for me it doesn’t help that my family pretty much ignored Mother’s Day yesterday, so I’m feeling sad and sorry for myself today which certainly isn’t the best head space to be in. I hope you will post again after surgery! I’m interested to know how it goes! I know we’ll be just fine and we can compare notes as we heal and get through it!

You will be fine!! My insurance expired 12/31 (b/c my employer was changing plans) and I had my surgery on 12/18, and had no problems getting it approved. It would be considered "bad faith" to deny someone who is on COBRA, etc. Best of luck to you!!

Thanks!!! I know we are blessed that the company is still going to pay their portion for a few months & we just have to pay what was being taken out of my husband’s checks, there is no way we could have paid full Cobra. So hopefully it’s all ment to be!!!
    Thanks for the reassurance!!!

I am an employee benefits professional and if you elect COBRA you should be fine. The employer is required by law to treat COBRA participants exactly as they do actively employed participants. You might have some hiccups from it going from active to COBRA coverage, just in terms of one ending and one starting, depending on how quickly you elect the coverage and make your payment. That is easily sorted out once they receive your COBRA Payment and reactivate your coverage. I am SO SORRY that your husband lost his job. That just makes it all so much more stressful.

Rocky_Mountain_Mama got a reaction from PuddinJasper in Covid Test!
I just had mine done about 3 hours ago. The description puddinjasper gave in another post was SPOT ON. I will say, being prepared for what to expect helped for sure, but yeah, it didn’t feel good. I’m very glad it’s over and behind me!

Puddinjasper, you described the COVID test perfectly! That was exactly how it felt. It actually helped me deal with it to know what to expect, but so not fun!!! Now just crossing my fingers it comes out negative as expected and my surgery this coming Tuesday happens as planned! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Had it done Monday and for ME....it was terrible. The only way to go into it...is to expect the worse and look at it as the only thing standing between you and your ever after. I made the mistake of not doing that...and was terribly disappointed. BTW...got my negative test results today. So yayyy...there's that. So it was worth it.

    It's MY time!

I will be here for you. I wish I could give you some tips to make it smoother..or less horrible but I just don't have ANYTHING. Go in with a fu*k it attitude...and get it done! Pretend that it's the ONE barrier between you and your ever after surgery!

    It's MY time!

Ugggh...my Dr. is requiring the same and I have to do it Friday. I am absolutely dreading it, but I know it’s necessary. I hope you’re feeling better! I May need to commiserate with you on Friday after my test!!

Great responses! Thank you! I’m very encouraged by your experiences. I’m so used to full being equal to uncomfortable chest pain and the need to have a bathroom close by. The idea that I can feel full without that...wow! I can’t wait.

It feels like normal fullness. You lose interest in food, don’t want any more, feel like you have had enough etc.
You don’t get that awful feeling in your chest and or throat that makes you feel like you are dieing . No more getting stuck, wasting nights out chucking in the loo, not being able to swallow your own spit.
The difference is like day and night, if I had known what both surgeries were like in advance I would have gone straight to RNY.
But you still have to be in control, it’s not a magic wand, it won’t stop you eating slider foods although you may get dumping. Its the same as all the other types of surgery, it’s a very effective tool if you use it correctly.

I know I'm not long term yet, but since I have had both a lap band and a bypass I feel qualified to answer.
With the lap band I NEVER had that comfortable feeling of fullness. I always felt queasy rather than full and vomited often, depending how the first bite landed. I ALWAYS regurgitated meat of any kind, that's why I'm a vegetarian today. With the bypass I get that nice "whew, I'm full" with no feelings of queasiness, and I haven't vomited once since I got my bypass.
I got my band a month before yours and it worked well for 5 years, but I also developed s slip, a hiatal hernia, and even with the fill pulled out I was vomiting up almost every other thing I ate. I don't miss it it all, and like elcee if I knew then what I know now I woulda gone straight to the bypass.
    Good luck!

JRT Mom, can I ask if you've had any issues trying to get your Protein being vegetarian? I've been a veg head for 27 years - and had no issues when I had my band in - (it was removed because it eroded completely into my stomach after 11 years being in). I'm just worried that I won't be able to find a good protein source that is workable since I hate tofu. Any suggestions?
    THANKS!!!

I have that feeling of fullness. Bypass feels way better than the band for me.
