Rocky_Mountain_Mama got a reaction from JRT Mom in Lap Band to Sleeve?
I’m among those who were very successful with the band and loved it. I had it for over 10 years and almost overnight I developed complications. Horrific heartburn, which was quickly followed by not being able to get anything through at all and constant vomiting which brought me to the ER. The band was deflated and the hunger and weight returned. Six months (and +35 pounds) later (which happens to be just over a week ago) I underwent a revision from band to bypass. I’m 8 days post op today. I have to agree with @BayougirlmrsS, I miss my band, and if it was still working I would’ve left it alone, but given the option of no band or a revision to another procedure I’d pick revision every time.

Rocky_Mountain_Mama reacted to summerset in How can you be successful long-term with WLS if you’ve always failed
In my opinion WLS is a magic bullet. It is the game changer when it comes to losing excess weight and maintaining the new weight.
We don't always succeed on the first try. Sometimes people need a second try or maybe even a third. Inadequate weight loss after lap band is quite common, revision to bypass also and many patients do quite good after revision. Maybe you want to do a quick medline search about this.
You're now a few years older and more experienced. Maybe you're now being able to handle problematic things in your life differently. You might also be more disciplined now when it comes to certain things. Think about your younger self and compare it to your now-self. I'm sure you're able to handle things way smoother than you did e. g. 10 years ago. The same can be true for this whole weight loss thing.
Of course there is the chance that you might fail again. There is always the chance of failing, doesn't matter if it's weight loss, learning a new language or performing at your job.
If we couldn't make these changes before any WLS at all, why is it possible for so many people after they had WLS? It just is because WLS is the game changer. Lapband is different. It doesn't provide the same hormonal changes a bypass does.
I always cringe when I read or hear this. "Dedicated". "Eliminate". "Avoid". Same with "struggling", "fighting" or "food is the enemy" etc. - being at war is so damn exhausting. Make peace with food. It's easier in the long run.
If you don't white-knuckle things you might discover something interesting: not all lifestyle changes are a struggle or need dedication in the long run. You might indeed discover (or re-discover if you were into sports in younger years) that exercise can be fun and fulfilling. Or that healthier food doesn't taste that bad. Or the opposite around, that this junk food is actually not as tasty as you always thought it is. You might discover, that when you feel more comfortable in your body and with yourself that you don't feel that need to eat in the same strong and overwhelming way. You might notice that you say "No, thanks but I don't want it now" when you get offered French fries or chocolate or whatever and really mean it.
However, there are many people who aren't able to maintain their "new lifestyle". I have no idea what makes or breaks this. I sometimes have thoughts in the back of my head that maybe some people are just lucky in reacting very good to WLS and don't actually need to watch their intake that much. They also don't live in the gym. When you browse around the board you're going to notice that maintenance calorie intake is very different in different people, even though their stats are quite similar.
Nobody can tell if WLS/revision to bypass is making it easy (or less hard) for you or not. I sometimes feel it's like playing the lottery. You won't know to what group of patients you will belong before you got the revision.
Short term weight loss doesn't really bring some benefits (someone correct me if I'm wrong please), however, one doesn't have to get to a normal weight to reap the benefit of weight loss. So many patients feel like "failures" because they don't get to a normal BMI. Yet, when you look at the studies actually not that much patients ever get down to a normal BMI.
And sh*t on "eliminating carbs". Like really take a big dump on it. (Years ago we should eliminate all fats, now it's carbs. I wonder what the future will bring.)

why does he/she wanting it out? are you having issues? I think the dr's that are doing this is just trying to make more money.... (my opinion)
My two cents, for what it's worth..... Leave it alone if you're not having issues. For one, getting a revision paid by insurance is damn near impossible for those of us who followed the rules and didn't gain all the weight back. I was banded in 2009 at 232#, ER band removal 2017 at 143#..... started looking for a dr to do a revision and was told over and over again..... You don't weigh enough. fast forward 2.5 years and hell trying to keep the weight off i was up to 173#..... and trust in the fact that it was hard not to gain more... i went hungry, diet pills, lax., went to crossfit 4-5 days a week and still..... and for people that say... just eat like you did when you had the band..... F U... it's is damn near impossible to do that. Two weeks after the band was gone.... hunger came back with a vengeance. I had forgotten what "hunger" felt like.... well it sucks.
So after 2.5 years of nothing.... i had my mind set that i was going to Mex to have the MGB.... but as luck would have it i found a dr. 10 min away from my office. He and i talked and he agreed to do a revision... but i had to agree to the sleeve and pay 14k out of pocket.... which i did. that was 38 weeks ago today (8/28/19). Went in weighing 173#.... today i'm at 126ish...(125-127). From a size 10 to a 2-4
Do i miss my band..... EVERY DAY. Do i wish i still had her.... EVERY DAY.

My surgery revision from band to bypass was yesterday morning and I got home tonight about 5pm. I’m very sleepy and I will say there is good amount of pain on my left side which is controlled by medication. The biggest challenge I have this early is having a hard time getting comfortable and I have no interest in food. I’m forcing broth and Jello. Last week I couldn’t imagine only eating broth and jello and today, I cant imagine being hungry ever. So weird. Even through the fog and pain, I have no regrets!

Oh no!! A UTI is awful when you’re otherwise healthy, it must be downright unbearable following surgery! I’m so sorry! I’m 6 days days post op today and have my first follow up with the surgeon. My energy just started coming back in the last day or 2. I really hope you’re starting to feel better and that your energy returns soon ((hugs))

Heyyyyy.......I was trying to figure out where to post it! I was in by 7am and out by 6:15 and home by 7pm. The gas was trapped all over my body..especially the shoulders but that has now subsided! I've been sipping when I haven't been sleeping. Slept in my recliner...the bed was not going to work for me!
Water seems to stay down nicely as has the Premier Clear. I'm getting ready try some broth that I pre-made.

    It's MY time!

I’m now 8 days post op from band revision to vsg. It’s been a major wake up call for me on the difference of recovery and wanting food. Just remember to drink fluids and it’s ok to be in pain I wasn’t expecting it to be like how it is . Good luck

My surgery is also tomorrow and I’m feeling a lot of this too. I’m revising a band to gastric bypass so I feel like, I’ve dive this before, so why the heck am I so nervous?! I think for sure a lot of it is the Covid stuff, and for me it doesn’t help that my family pretty much ignored Mother’s Day yesterday, so I’m feeling sad and sorry for myself today which certainly isn’t the best head space to be in. I hope you will post again after surgery! I’m interested to know how it goes! I know we’ll be just fine and we can compare notes as we heal and get through it!
