This is a confession, I have been married for 43 years. I know my hubby's preference of his women's sizes. I also know he will love me at whatever size I am, he has been with me thru my ups and my downs LITERALLY!!! And when he said these things I know he thought they were a joke but...here is the way it made me feel. At first, I was checking into my Panni he said, You know I wouldn't care if you wanted BREAST AUGMENTATION!!! I said, Oh so my boobs aren't big enough now! Come to find out he was talking about a breast lift. OK Then he made fun of my saggy butt, along with teasing me about how my body looks now. He said you are nothing but bones now. So I CAN NOT get these things out of my head!! I don't like him to see my body because I feel like its not something he really likes. I know it may sound silly to you. I think I had more CONFIDENCE about my body before!! SAD BUT OH SO TRUE!! You all know that once something is said it is so hard to forget!! I know I'm overreacting because this is the man who has told me MANY MANY times that he never saw any of my weight gains. He was so sweet when he said, I never noticed any of your weight because I just saw you as the day I married you!! I just wish I could get over it!! My mind just keeps playing it over and over. If he didn't love and desire me he would NOT be here. RIGHT

I am only 2.5 months out...but I miss my boobs. Yesterday I put on my bra backwards and it fit just as well as frontward. Sigh, they are also starting to hide in my arm pits. Jerks. The positives far out weight the negatives...but I feel less girly.

I do miss the padding on my butt. It gets down right painful at times to sit on those bones!
I may be cold most of the time, but I certainly don't miss being hot & sweaty all of the time.

Well, the change doesn't happen overnight. It's faster than if you tried to do it on your own, but it's still gradual. You have time to adjust a bit, as the weight comes off. I have never known a day, since elementary school, where my weight wasn't an issue and I didn't have to endure comments about it. I am looking forward to a day when that is never an issue for me again...I never have to hear another snide remark, passive-aggressive comment, hairy look or rude response, due to my weight or size.

I am 35 days until surgery and I am not afraid of the surgery, I'm not afraid of the physical pain, I am not afraid the impact on my marriage.
My fears are becoming seen, I have gotten used to being invisible, being ignored has been a way of life. The majority of my adult life I have been the girl with a pretty face, I have been passed over for jobs, I have been excluded. I have been that funny girl who nobody wants wants to be seen with and yet everyone wants to talk about. I fear the change.
I have done many diets over the years and since I am here we all know how they have turned out. I fear failure but it is also the fear of failure that keeps me pushing ahead.
I fear living in a body that I won't recognize, I'm excited about at the same time, I see so many before and after photos and I'm incredibly inspired by them. I'm ready for it to be my turn, I'm ready to be my surgeons next successful patient, I'm ready to give hope to the ones who follow in my footsteps....all the while is scares the heck out of me.
This opportunity seems to good to be true, it is my chance and fresh start for a healthy future, I'm ready for the hard work and I have the determination, all the change is just scary. I fear that in a year or two I will look back at my fat life and I will pity my former self, I will realize how much I have missed out on.
I know I can't be the only with similar thoughts or fears.

Has anyone gone through an identity crisis after WLS? I feel overall happier than before, but I don't know if its culmination of my age (36) and the weight loss, but I feel like I'm going through a bit of an identity or mid life crisis? I'm glad my husband is giving me a little leeway, and we are having fun "discovering" things together.. but then I feel a little depressed lately too.. my whole identity is changing.. People call me beautiful, gorgeous, a MILF.. and I'm just not used to these things.. they seem so foreign.
When I was over 250-300 pounds, people mostly ignored me.. no one looked in my eyes.. people were barely friendly.. my husband agrees that my personality hasn't changed that much.. but just the outside me.. I also discovered changes in my sexuality, that I had no idea existed. I went from 0 sex drive, to 150 MPH, raging, always wanting sex as well..
I'm rambling, but just wondered if anyone else has gone through this, and do the hormones calm down after a bit?

As I approach my 4-year VSG anniversary with Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana, I wanted to share all the positive things that have happened in my life:
    1) Went from a size 18/20 to a 6. No more meds and overall fantastic health.
    2) Weight loss gave me the confidence to go after my MBA.
    3) I completed my MBA (and also completed a 2nd Masters just this year).
    4) I got a promotion at work. And I'm making more money.
    5) My husband says people think he is either rich or "well endowed" because I am "hot" and with him (he is crazy-funny).
    6) Two other friends have had successful VSG surgery with Dr. Ortiz and have lost all the weight they wanted to loose. (And let me tell you, being an role model to others is a powerful thing I was not expecting, but love.)
    7) I am glad to answer any questions about my experience as a 3+ year VSG veteran, surgery in Mexico, or other.
If interested, you are welcome to visit my own personal weight loss blog that chronicles my pre-surgery craziness and post-surgery experience. I don't work for anyone or get paid for anything, just my experience for those researching options. www.hoosierfatty.wordpress.com

I spoke to my primary care physician before surgery and he agreed to meet with me every month for 6 months just to make sure I was doing ok after surgery. He can't help me with the actually surgery stuff but nutrition and blood work he can. If I had questions about my surgery or nutrition, I have email addresses for my surgeon and nutritionist and I can email them.
From what I've read on here if you go through BP, the have follow ups with the nutritionist in their surgery packages.
It never hurts to ask your doctor, the worst they can say is no.

We try to do one special meal once per payday. My sweetie hit a home run! That is a bacon wrapped filet mignon and butterflied shrimp stuffed with cream cheese, lime juice, rosemary and then wrapped in bacon. Unfortunately 3 bites of steak was all that I could handle but those shrimp, oh those shrimp! Ahhh, happy fat man indeed! ????

Mountaingal got a reaction from kzdowskijoey in How did you feel 1 week out after Gastric Plication Weight Loss Surgery?
I am at one week out right now. Feel great. Haven't taken any pain meds since leaving the hospital. Was out walking 2-3 miles at a clip the day after being released from the hospital. Of course I am not lifting anything heavy. Incisions are slightly sore. Doing chores, cooking for husband (and not wanting to eat it all). Took maybe a 20 min nap yesterday after getting up at my normal time of 6am or so. Taking in some "sloppy" forms of Protein and tolerating them well.Just pace yourself and don't do anything crazy like having a toddler bounce on your tummy or letting your dog jump up on your lap.

At that age I think that telling them you need to have your stomach fixed to help you be healthier is a great explanation. Well done! You're being open and honest without overwhelming them with information they don't understand. Luckily, My kids 12 and 15 are lots easier to talk to and actually-- about 3 years ago when I initially thought about having it I spoke with my kids (9 and 12) about it then and they told me that surgery was for cheaters and that I should just work hard, exercise, use self control and stay disciplined. They were my toughest critics!!! For them I chose not to do the surgery at that time and decided I would give it another go on my own. 3 years later we revisited this topic and this time I wasn't thinking about it. I had already started the process. They did not tell me I was taking the easy way out this time-- actually they did not say anything but "ok-- it's your choice" and I respect that. They are already seeing the benefit and although they haven't said anything-- it's having a positive impact on their lives.

Due to kids great ability to both not understand things fully (hey that's why they are kids) and to spread their understanding of things I agree that an explaination about having your stomach fixed might work very well. Of course you can't eat reg food as your stomach is healing. As time goes by and they ask more questions you can go to full truth about WLS or the simple explaination now your stomach is fixed you don't feel you need to need all the time. It is happier and not growling for food. The explaination needs to fit the age of the child. Yes though most definitely make sure they you know you will be just fine.

I am so excited! I had the DS on April 27, 2016 with a starting weight of 267 at 5'2" tall. Today I weigh 198! I don't think I've been under 200 lbs in over 27 years!
My highest ever weight was 320. I just had to share my excitement! I just turned 49 a few weeks ago and I'm wishing I would have done this years ago.
It is wonderful to bypass the plus size section of the store and actually shop the non plus women's section!
I've been diagnosed type 2 diabetic since 2003 and since I was discharged from the hospital I have been off all diabetes meds (Metformin, Amaryl and Victoza), off blood pressure meds and off cholesterol meds. My last A1C was 5.5 and before surgery was 9.7. Cholesterol before surgery was 168 and now is 125. My blood pressure is normal. My 3 month labs were great. I'll be having 6 month labs next month.
I told my surgeon even if I didn't lose any weight just having the improved health and labs was definitely worth it!
The best part of this journey is going through it with my new husband. He started at 397 lbs and had the DS January 25th. He's lost 140lbs so far and his labs are great as well. We were married in June of this year. It does make meal planning much easier with both of us with the same eating plan. We both feel we've been given a new lease on life and haven't felt this good since our early 20's!
If you're just starting your journey, congratulations on your decision to improve your health and your life!

I have the smoker going with a pork loin at the moment. After that is my sweeties salmon. After my hack job massacre of filleting it. There was enough clean up on the carcass to make a salmon spread. I cooked the salmon in lemon and let it cool. Later I adied dill relish, Greek yogurt and old bay seasoning. I took some and put it on cheddar cheese. Pretty darn tasty!

At first I told my 9 year old son I was going in for a hernia repair (which I was) bad I explained what hiatal hernia was and we looked up diagrams online. The main thing he wanted to know is if my surgery could be "fatal" (that was a recent vocabulary work in school). I told him it was a simple procedure, no need to worry, it was outpatient, and mom would see him after school.
Now that 2 weeks have gone by and he sees I do not eat like I used to or with him and his dad, I think he realizes I did something to help me become less "fluffy". Now he loves my fluffy belly but I told him it was healthier for me to get rid of some of the fluff. He has been so gentle by not jumping on me the last few weeks, he asked to see my incisions, which are healing very nicely, and all in all, seems ok with everything. No disruptions at school, behavioral or academic.
    Life goes on.

My surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday (yikes!!)and I have been on my liquid diet for almost a week now.
My 2 eldest boys who are ages 9 & 5, have noticed that I haven't been eating food and have been asking a lot of questions as to why.
Today at lunch I decided to give them some warning about the upcoming surgery & they asked a million questions - as kids do!
I am pretty upfront with people about my struggles and plans to get surgery (if they ask why) but I absolutely was unprepared and struggled to tell my kids the truth.
I'm not sure that they are old enough to process what weight loss surgery means, and I'm a tiny bit worried that my 5 year old might innocently start suggesting it overweight people we know (he is very helpful like that!).
I settled on telling them that I am getting my stomach fixed because it's not really helping me be healthy (which is basically true!).
They had to be at the hospital with my husband when I had my EGD done & the surgery is at the same hospital so I was able to call on that to make it a bit less scary for them.
I'm curious to know how other people explained the surgery to younger kids, if at all? And how kids reacted after the surgery? Any opinions or thoughts welcome!
    Thank all
