Mountaingal reacted to fesenjoon in Pouch Reset Attempt for 4.5 years post-sleeve
    Hi Everyone,
I'm a male sleever that has relapsed back into bad habits. I did my surgery back in May 2012. I initially had my starting weight at 122 kg (268 lbs). I successfully dropped the weight down to 75 kg (165 lbs) during the first 18 months. For my first two years, I always logged my meals on MyFitnessPal and worked out 4-5x a week. Was averting 1300-1600 calories daily for maintenance.
Unfortunately, has a series of personal life events that completely overwhelmed me in 2014. Lots of depression and stress in my life, so all the bad habits crept back in. I got up to 100 kg (220 lbs) last month and I was horrified!
Decided to do something happen and regain the willpower to restart my former positivity life. It's amazing what a negative mindset can do wreck havoc! Anyways, after researching these forums for fellow regainers, I decided to follow the pouch reset diet ( http://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-pouch-reset-losing-weight-after-weight-regain/) to jump start my path to getting back to losing weight.
It's seriously more challenging than the 5 day pouch reset since it's 10 days! I'm currently at the end of Day 5. Wow! Being on a liquid diet is really tough! It was so much easier to drink liquids immediately post-surgery than today! I'm shrinking the 10 days to 8 days (shorting the last two stages).
For Days 1-3, I hovered around a calorie intake between 500-700 calories, Protein around 70g, and carbs almost nonexistent (<25 grams).
Days 4-5, I got up to 1000 calories daily, 70 grams, and tried to keep carbs under 85 grams.
Key aspects that helped me through the 5 days:
    - try to exercise if you can. I did daily cardio of 150-200 calories burn.
    - drink lots and lots of Water.
    - log everything on an app.
    - I still get hungry between meals (and I have to remind myself that this is head hunger and not real hunger).
    - BE POSITIVE AND HAVE THE RIGHT MINDSET FOR CHANGE!
I'm weighed myself and I'm down 2.5 kgs (5.5 lbs). I assume that some of this is Water loss. I'm seriously looking forward to tomorrow when I can start having soft Protein (Hooray!).
Hope this post helps some of the regainers out there. It does happen, but we need to get back on track!

My husband, two daughter and the gal who went to Mexico with me (she also had surgery). I have a DIL would never approve and never let me forget the mistake I made whenever I have any health issues for the rest of my life so I decided not to tell my son or anyone else who might blabber to them. My daughters have been my greatest supporters and I knew would fully approve. I am sure everyone else who has noticed my weight loss are just waiting for me to gain it back LOL.

You may not be bringing money into your relationship for six weeks but you will be bringing in something that may be even more valuable. You will be working towards a longer healthier life to spend with him and your children. You are blessed if he is willing and able to do this for you.

Great comments on this thread .
You're not a failure, a failure would not log in and tell their story, nor would they even try to figure out how to get back on track. They say nothing, and do nothing.

By no way are you a FAILURE!! Think back to how you used to be. Gain lose gain throw in the towel etc. You know you have gained but did you say NOPE I'M DONE? No, you did not, You are a winner!! You want to lose that regain!! You can and you will lose it. WHY, because you already know you can!!! Good luck

Gains can happen to any of us. Get rid of the feeling of shame. Forgive yourself. This is just a set back. You have a fresh start. You lost 100 pounds. You can defiantly lose 20.
Time to get back on the horse. Go back to your bariatric diet, exercise, Water and tracking food.
We are here to cheer you on.

First and foremost, I strongly believe in the idea that we are what we think we are, so the negative self talk has GOT to go. You are a successful WLS patient who has fallen off the wagon a bit.
A failure is someone who quits, refusing to try again. You regained only 20 pounds and you are back. You could have waited until you had regained 40, 60, 100, or 100+ or you could have thrown in the towel all together.
    YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE.
Go back to your surgeon and see what he/she recommends. Go back to your pre-op diet for a week or two. Go back to liquids for a week or two. Start weighing/measuring/tracking your food and move your ass a little more than normal. You can totally do this.
You are not a failure until you stop trying. You don't sound like a failure to me at all.

I would not say losing "only" 100 pounds was a failure! Regardless of your initial weight, losing 100 pounds will have a huge impact on your health. The same is true for the net 80 pounds you have lost, including your regain.
As far as a starting place to get back on track with weight loss, have you tried going back to your post-op diet? You could do one day of Clear liquids to cleanse your system and then do a week of Protein shakes to reset your diet. Then go on to very structured meals like you did after surgery: eating 2 ounces of Protein, then 2 ounces of non-starchy vegetables, then 2 ounces of fruit. If you are still hungry, you can have 2 ounces of healthy carbs.

I had my sleeve surgery Jan 14, compared to others only lost 100lbs so already felt like a failure, now in the last 8 mths have put on 20lbs and just don't know where to start to head back in the right direction. I feel so alone and depressed but know I don't want to go back to my pre surgery weight. Is this my fault - absolutely it is.. Although I still have great restriction I sometimes don't eat the right foods and thus weight gain.. Any advise on a good starting point to get back on track would be most appreciated.. Many thanks

I gained back most of my postop weight from 258 to 210 now back at 238. Banded in 12/2011. Motorcyle accident, stopped working out & monitoring my eating. Now slowly but surely back to watching what goes in & working out. My surgeon says no more fills needed already in my green zone. Hopefully this blogging will help me to get back on track.

You can set up surgery in Mexico almost immediately. I went with Bariatric Pal and got a date that just gave myfriend and I (we went together) long enough to do 2 weeks presurgical diet. Dr talked to us the same day we inquired and we had the pre-surgical questionnaire, nutrition consult etc all done in a few days. Many of us would tell yuo that you would in no way regret going Mexico, saving a lot of money and getting the most wonderful care. For us it was better than anything we could have received locally if we had had ins that would have paid.

Do they think that no you don't need surgery or just don't want you to go to Mexico to do it? Both
Do you not have insurance to have it covered here or do you just not want to have to wait to have it done here? I tried to get it done here but my doctor won't give me another referral because I originally had an approval but then I turned 26 years old and got cut off my father's insurance and cannot seem to get another referral from my doctor again.

So, I've talked with Bariatric Pal MX one day and was feeling excited to try to be able to get the roux e y Gastric Bypass. But then happiness turned to sadness when I asked my family members if either of them could go with me to Mexico. They were like "no you shouldn't go, it's dangerous in Mexico that's like going to Iraq for your surgery." My grandmother, friend, and primary care doctor all agree that I don't need surgery. I REALLY wish somebody was on my side because it's hard going through all this without nobody to be a support.I just want to cry. I'm 5'4 and weigh 280.2 with a frame in between small and medium but I have small feet and hands. It's like I lose weight and gain weight VERY quickly and i'm tired of it. I feel like NOBODY wants to listen to my reasons of why I REALLY want weight loss surgery. I've been at this for more than 10 plus years of trying lose weight because I've been unsuccessful in EVERY single diet I have did, including the current diet I'm on only with just curbing my appetite and doing a lot of exercise. The main reason I want weight loss surgery so I could get my foot fixed because I've been having problems with it from a prior injury and want to be thinner to make sure I don't injure myself again after my foot surgery. I REALLY wish somebody would care and I just feel so alone in this.
