Got my date!
Well, I finally found some protein I can handle. I tried unflavored from GNC, Beneprotein, and Unjury...and the smell/taste of the unflavored is just too much for me. When I ordered the unflavored from Unjury, I bought some chicken soup flavored samples too. I mixed it with 2 cups of water and one seasoning packet from some ramen noodles (tossed the dry noodles in the trash), and PRAISE GOD, I can't taste the protein!

Pre-op diet
Well, today has not been good. I'm thinking I'm getting too many carbs even though the list I have includes 100% juices. And because I can't stomach the powdered Protein , I've been drinking a lot of special K protein Water. My diet also says clear liquids only the day before surgery, but I might try do do mostly clear liquids from now on. This is hard, for sure, but until today, I have done my best. I must confess, I cheated today. I ate some crackers that I'd been craving. I have done nothing but kick myself since then. Congrats on your surgery date!!

Congratulations! I won't be in Mexico, but you'll be having your surgery a day after me. It is so exciting!!!

Pre-op diet
That's awesome! So glad you hwere able to quit. :001_smile: Wish I could get my husband to lose the dip, but I guess I can live with that over the smokes. I would kill for some cucumbers right now. That sounds delish! Too bad they aren't liquid! Well, I stayed away from the crackers. I tried sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast, and mixed with skim milk, that's 13 grams of Protein, so I'll take it. I can actually TASTE the protein in the special K pink lemonade. Didn't notice it in the strawberry kiwi flavor though. Weird, huh?

Changed My Mind!
Welcome! I, like you, switched from the band to the sleeve. I'm very excited about my decision, and my husband can't stop talking about how excited he is for me. I was born and lived in Texas until last year and I miss it so much! Best of luck with your process and I hope you will get all the answers you need here. I know I have gotten tons of advice and I was able to form a list of questions to ask during my appointments all from things I've read here. :001_smile:

Pre-op diet
Okay, so just a little venting here...and I know it's silly and I need to just suck it up, but I'M HUNGRY AGAIN. Stomach is growling and I just cannot get over the smell and taste of protein powder. My husband complains that my sense of smell is TOO good. This is only my 4th day. We're going to TWO bbq's tomorrow. It is going to be a long day! And I'm not craving anything other than saltine crackers. Weird, huh???

Clear Liquids Only Stage?
I'm going to go try some protein in crystal light right now!
-
I know I'm in ketosis...
I also use the kiwi-strawberry Special K...any little bit helps, right? I'm on my 4th day of liquids and broke down and ate 4 saltine crackers last night. I was afraid my Vitamins would make me sick, so I ate the crackers. My husband got so mad. So, my question is...how low-carb is low-carb? I mean, is there a number of carbs I should stay under? I can't figure that part out. I can also have natural sugars, just not added sugars. I'm good on that...I'm just wondering about the carbs!

Clear Liquids Only Stage?
Did the Unjury dissolve completely in your water, or could you see it? My problem with the GNC unflavored powder is that it makes the water a milky color instead of clear. Is there ANYTHING that mixes in clear?

Rate your liquids
Ok, so I'm new to this Protein powder thing, and so far I really suck at it!!! I bought the unflavored whey protein from GNC and I mixed it with some sf chocolate pudding, and it is just ok. I think I put a little too much milk in it because it didn't set up right. You can really taste the protein. I was so hoping to find something I could put in my decaf tea. I ordered something called Beneprotein (like benefiber, but protein instead) with the hopes that it will dissolve well like benefiber. I have had no trouble with the benefiber in my tea. The beneprotein doesn't have a lot of protein in each scoop, but hey...I'll take what I can get if it is truly flavorless. :thumbup1: I have also ordered some samples of

They told me 2 weeks. We'll see if that happens.

Got my date!
Hmm, maybe it's like cornstarch...you have to mix it in cold Water first then add it to warm stuff? I'll give it a try. Still don't have any Protein powder but plan to go to GNC first thing in the morning. I was told today I needed between 80 & 100 grams of protein A DAY! I spent all day doing pre-op stuff and I'm still not done. I'm getting nervous about the actual surgery. YIKES! It's my first surgery ever!:001_tongue:

Uhmmm...sex?
Can we say like...3 weeks or something? Just so I can have a BREAK!?! Kidding, Kidding...

Got my date!
I will check it out today! Did you like it? Was it okay to mix in warm liquids too?

Got my date!
Day one of the liquid diet is over and it wasn't too bad. I think the hardest part is finding sugar free stuff. Most Soups that I found have some sugar in them even if it's minimal. Hopefully I will get some help tomorrow during my pre-op class. I hate to say it, but I could barely choke down the atkins shake! Soooo, the only Protein I got today was from half of that shake and some specialK protein Water. I went to 3 stores and couldn't find any unflavored Protein powder. Anyway, I went to the required support group meeting tonight and learned a lot. There weren't too many sleevers, but there were some! Most were there for bypass or band. I am very nervous about recovery time. Other than that, I'm excited!

Pre-op diet
So, I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I don't go to my nutritional class until Wednesday, so I'm hoping I can get by on my own for a day. I was told on the phone today that it had to be sugar-free and low-fat liquids. When I met with the nutritionist during my consult, she mentioned it could be things like cream of chicken Soup, etc. I'm a little nervous about these next two weeks. Did anyone here have to follow a similar pre-op diet? Nothing has been mentioned yet about Protein, but I'm sure I won't be able to do without it. I didn't buy any Protein shakes tonight because I couldn't find sugar free stuff. I read about something called powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury...wondering if that's something I could handle?

Got my date!
I love the EAS protein bars, so maybe I will like the shakes too! Thanks, and I hope you have a date soon too! :confused1:

Sorry, I turned 32 Saturday, but I still feel like I'm in my 20s! :confused1:

Got my date!
I have been phone-stalking these people for the past week and I finally got to talk to someone! I told her my situation (needed to be up and basically back to work by July 31), and since I'm self-pay and I've done the psych eval, she got me down for surgery on July 14!!! I have to start the liquid diet TOMORROW, which I'm not really prepared for, ack! Suggestions? I'm running to the store tonight to make sure I have something to get me through the day tomorrow. I go for the nutrition class Wednesday, so I'll get the official liquid diet shopping list then. So now I'm waiting for info on the time of the surgery and when I will have to do the other pre-op tests, which hopefully can be done where I live. My husband won't be able to come with me during the day, so I've got to figure out transportation, but other than that I'm SUPER excited to get the ball rolling on this. YAY!:confused1:

How many?
I am so irritated that I have not gotten a call back yet. At this point, I'm thinking about switching surgeons, but I've already put a lot of money into this process at this point. I have to go back to work July 31 and I'm running out of time. So frustrated.

How many?
Is there a list of these 50? Lol

How many?
I have read that there are only 20 surgeons who perform the VSG worldwide. Surely this is inaccurate?? Who all has had their surgery in the US?
