I plan to invest in liquid vitamins. They are really expensive, but I think they will be worth it until I'm ready for solid food.< /p>

Hi - reporting in here for May 5th sleever! I hit 8 weeks yesterday and am down 40 pounds! Yahoo! I also figured how to get past my 3.5 week stall - eat more calories! My NUT said I had to increase my calories to 800 per day (was eating 400-500) because my body was in starvation mode and holding onto the fat. I started losing again once I increased my calories. Only 10 more pounds to wonderland! Super excited.
How are all the other May sleevers doing out there?

Feeling bones I've never felt before. Knees, hip bones, wrists hell even my fingers feel skinner. Also the simple things like getting easier to get in and out of bed, being more mobile. It's the little things I tell you.

    Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

Surgery is tough, but you you will be 99% normal within a few days. I'm 3 months out and feel fantastic! GOOD LUCK TOMORROW! !! After surgery, including weeks and months after get on a walking routine. I walked 101.5 miles in June and have 115 miles goal for July. It's the best way to get your body back to business!

Ima Fox reacted to Jersrose43 in Lap band or sleeve? Why did you get revision to sleeve?
I went the sleeve route because of all the complications I had read about.
Then I was talking to one of my neighbors who works at the local hospital doing gastric surgeries and she said they get an equal part of lap removal request as they do first time lap bands.
My surgeon had said he does remove almost 1/5 as many as he puts in.
That to me was telling enough. I went sleeve.

I originally had a lap band, and now have a sleeve as of earlier this month. I had severe complications with my band and eventually had to have it removed. Toward the end, there wasn't a single day I didn't throw up.
I didn't know it at the time, but the lap band has a very high complication rate and many doctors have stopped doing it all together.
It's a personally preference, and there is a chance that you will be one of the lucky ones to not have complications with the band, but maybe not.
On my way! Thing you might want to consider is that many insurance companies will only pay for one wl surgery per lifetime. Why would you want a surgery that's reversible?

Jill that sounds so so frustrating. I am so sorry you've gone through all that and not gotten the results. Can the doctor explain to you why? Seems like a new surgeon and a new surgery will make 3 times a charm come true for you! Wishing you all the best!

I agree with what the ladies above wrote. Let me also say that you can probably find a lot of information on the internet and youtube videos. I will be in the same boat you're in because I'm having my surgery done in Mexico. I will have folllow up check ups done by a general practitioner rather than a bariatric Dr. Send good vibes. I hope my diabetes goes away.

Congrats on your weight loss! But let me say, you don't have to tell them JACK. You're a grown woman. It seems to me you already have the tools to keep losing if that's what you want to do. If that's what you want to do, you don't owe them an explanation or apology and you don't need their permission. Follow your heart and listen to your inner voice and your body. You know whats best for you. The sooner you learn to trust yourself and your instincts, the more true to yourself & the better your life will be. Unlike you, I'm not young. I wish someone would have told me this when I was young. Be your own best friend. Be empowered. You may have outgrown the nutritionists now. If they don't that you make those decisions....Good luck to you.

I think you should have/eat what you want in moderation. If you want cake, have a bite or 2, but don't go hog wild because that defeats the purpose of the surgery. Maybe have a cakepop (75 cents at Starbucks) instead of a slice. Quality of life matters. We all might have financial goals but that doesn't mean we want to work only to pay bills & have no fun whatsoever for any reason. There is one diet guru that advocates having a "cheat" day. I would call it a "treat" day. You won't blow up if you treat yourself once or twice a month. Conversely, you'll also have to be content to lose weight more slowly. Eating cake does not help the cause of weight loss. If you are suffering you need to change something. You need to feel like you are having a full, abundant life & not a miserable, deprived existence. Good luck to you. Keep looking for the balance and you will find it.

Don't second guess your decision. I am on day 6 of post-op and am on a liquid diet. I haven't felt this good in over 20 years. The surgery had 1-2 days of minimal discomfort. I have been home for 4 days and haven't even looked at the pain meds. I'm drinking my liquids, Protein shakes and Vitamins and for someone who hasn't eaten anything in 7 days, I have more energy than I did a month ago. I'm down 10 pounds since the surgery. I'm not hungry and actually take greater joy in cooking now than I did before. I guess it's my way to rebuild my relationship with food, and this is the first stage.
There's never going to be a better time or way to change your life. You can do it, believe me, you will!! Good luck sweetie!!

take this time to practice eating slowly, chewing well and not drinking with meals.
wean yourself off of sugar and processed carb foods (and fast food/take out if you eat that).
    establish a regular exercise practice.
most people actually feel after the surgery that they wish they had had more time to prepare and practice for their new lifestyle.

I know what you are saying: I was becoming a hermit as well before my surgery. I knew I needed to make a change for me to be healthy physically and emotionally. I kept me focus on my "list" of requirements I needed to do to allow me to do surgery. I am only 1 month post surgery but I am feeling more like my old self and I actually see and feel this working! You are so close! Some anxiety is natural because it is a big change but it is SO worth it! Good luck!!

You will be so happy you did this. I gave my daughter-in-law 2 shirts that are to big for me already. I had very little pain, no nausea, & came home from the hospital & slept on my side the first night. I'm still learning what & how much I can eat. I had my surgery on May 12th. So far so good. Don't let anxiety get the better of you. Positive thoughts will give you positive results. I wish you all the best in letting that thin person inside of you out.

Day 4, and I got a 6 oz yogurt in over a span of nine hours. I'm elated to be back on food. I've been on Water for days!
After the yogurt, I heated up 4 oz of a broth concoction that I cooked weeks ago in advance. I'm in heaven. This broth is chicken Soup from scratch, greek yogurt, mashed potato, and minced onions. mmmmmmmm
