  1. Yay for you!!!! Congratulations! I am also having my surgery on August 4th. I am so excited. :scared0:
  2. Hi Bob! Welcome and congratulations on your decision. I too was all set for the LapBand and changed my mine to the Sleeve. My surgery is the day after yours. I look forward to following your progress.:scared0:
  3. Your puppies are SOOOOOOO CUTE!!! I love labs. We have two yellow labs. They are sisters (litter mates). We couldn't decide between them so we got them both. For the record, not something I would recommend doing. It was our "pretest for children". If we could keep the puppies alive for a year, we would start having babies. Well....nine years later, we have a couple of wonderful sweet dogs and two little boys. For the record, puppies are much easier than children:laugh0:
  4. Congratulations on your date. Yay!!! Let us all know how it goes for you. I am excited to follow your progress.
  5. I am so jealous. I have another month to go. Good Luck tomorrow! Let us know how you are doing.
  6. I agree with Elisabeth, I would talk to your Dr. about alternatives to Protonix & Nexium. If you are allergic to one, you are possibly allergic to the entire class of proton pump inhibitors. An H2 Histamine Blocker would be your best best, Pepcid, Zantac & Tagamet. Pepcid AC does make a 20mg EasyChew over the counter. All of these can be found with a prescription on a $4 generic program. You might need to pay more to get the Chewable/Liquid at first, but once you can swallow a pill, I would switched to the generic RX to save some money.
  7. I asked my surgeon about just that. He said researchers have been able to block gherlin but it doesn't reduce hunger. So now they believe gherlin is more of a "marker" than a hormone/receptor interaction. The only way to reduce your hunger, is remove the part of the stomach that makes the gherlin. I have always dreamt of a "pill" that prevents one from getting hungry and helps the body burn fat with no side effects. As a pharmacist, I know better, but I can dream. :biggrin0: I guess I am back to the old physics of burning more calories than I consume. Bummer! :sad0:
  8. Who are all our August Sleevers? I am August 4th :001_wub:
  9. Sounds Great! It's a plan. The August Girls!
  10. Congratulations on your date! You will be one day ahead of me. My surgery is on Aug 4th. Good Luck!
  11. Yeah! I'm glad you finally have a date to meet with your surgeon. Let us know how it goes.
  12. Tiffykins I tried the Caribbean Cooler today. You are right, tastes just like a Pina Colada, however, it's missing something. Oh yeah, RUM. Oh well, it is still really good. It's a toss up for me though for my favorite. Caribbean Cooler is really good, but I also really like the Fuzzy Navel. Good to have options.:tongue_smilie:
  13. Someone from LBT posted this information a while back. I found it while surfing their threads. I called it last week and got 10 full serving packets (one of each flavor) for $9.99. Great way to see if you like it at all and which flavor(s) you prefer. The choices are a bit overwhelming. Also, it is one sample pack per person but you can order for different people in the same household. I have to agree with Tiffykins on the Crystal Sky flavor, not my favorite.
  14. I tried both the nectar Fuzzy Navel (for Breakfast this morning) and the Nectar Sweets vanilla Bean Torte (for dessert this evening) and loved them both. The Fuzzy Navel is light and refreshing. I added 8 ounces water plus 6-7 ice cubes to make it not quite as sweet and really cold. I used 8 oz skim milk with the vanilla bean torte and about 6-7 ice cubes. Quite a treat. I had ordered the sampler pack from Syntrax directly. Call 1-866-333-7403 and ask for customer service (they close at 5pm cst). You can place an order for 10 different flavors of single serve samples for $9.99 (shipping included). :001_tongue:
  15. I will second that!!
  16. I can tell you all that the information I received here and on LapBandTalk helped influenced my decision. I found a lot of people who LOVE their band. I found, it seems, just as many who hated it (or struggled significantly with it) and didn't get the results they had hoped for. I was not willing to spend 10k on a surgery that may or may not be the one I want. It seemed like such a bigger gamble. People who started with the sleeve, almost every one loved it. People who started with the band and switched to the sleeve, love their sleeve. It appears to be exactly what I was wanting in a WLS.
  17. My surgery is August 4th. I am only taking a week of vacation. I hope I am not overestimating my abilities. I have had two c-sections with very little problems (up walking around same day). I figured it can't be much worse than my doctor surgically removing a 10 lb baby from my abdomen.
  18. DeeDee - We have the same surgery date - August 4th !!
  19. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I can't wait to take back control. I have been reading these forums to learn everything I can (and keep me away from the pantry/fridge - I am such a "bedtime snacker"). You all have been a wealth of information. Thank you so much. 38 more days of being hungry.
  20. Hi Everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Linda. I have been overweight off and on my whole life it seems. When I was younger, I swam competitively all summer long. Weight that I had gained from poor eating habits during the school year just melted off during the summer months. Unfortunately, the cycle continued year after year. Eventually, I became a "grown up" with real life responsibilities, stopped swimming, had two boys and then layered on the pounds. Like all of you, I have tried several diets, some very successfully but only learned how to "DIET", not eat. For the record, I am a really good dieter. However, eventually, something would happen, I would get bored with dieting, or just got plain hungry and stopped the diet. And back to old eating habits - the cycle continues. I have been following the boards for several weeks as I educated myself on WLS. I visited my surgeon today and have scheduled surgery for August 4th. I was all set to get the band until I went to his seminar. My doctor wasn't pushing any one type of surgery but as he discussed the options available, the sleeve sounded pretty good. The more research I did about the sleeve, the better it sounded. So 6 weeks from today, I will get my sleeve.
  21. Okay - I am considering getting LapBand and trying to learn everything I can. This is my first time to post. I just had to. This is too funny. If it were that easy, I would have done it already.
