Abbey M. got a reaction from anonbaribabe in January surgeries?!
    Hi Johnny,
thank you for your concern as well as the recommendation you gave a newly sleeved patient to ditch her care team instead of just saying “everyone’s plans are different”. While I am going to take the high road and choose not to contradict you just know I am not a fool especially when it comes to medicine. As a women who holds a PhD in a healthcare field, has worked in medicine for over 17 years, and has managed numerous medical clinics across multiple states including those relating to surgery, I can assure you that I am not an ignoramus who doesn’t understand the effects of nutrition on the body. But just for the heck of it, the 2016 Harvard Medical Review as well as the World Health organizations published study reviewing Sodium intake for adults and children published in the 5th Geneva, World Health Organization in 2014 states the recommended sodium level to be above <2grams and < 5grams per day. Sodium is different than SALT. My CARE TEAM has their patients living a full Keto diet for life after surgery to obtain optimum health. A keto Diet requires a minimum of 3-4 grams per day to get proper balance. When consuming a full liquid diet of higher Protein and less than 20grams of carbs a day your body goes in to KETOSIS requiring additional sodium (3-4grams) a day in order to balance out nutrients and promote health. Anyone consuming a liquid diet of atleast 60g protein and less than 20g carbs (every person I know post sleeve surgery who is following the liquid diet requirements) should be doing this. You can read this yourself if you look up anything regarding ketosis and sodium levels. Honestly, please don’t insult me, or my physicians and act like you know more than my own doctor. I would appreciate it.

I’m doing pretty good. Recovering well. Just having these gas bubble pains occasionally in my diaphragm. Annoying but not intolerable lol

I got sleeved on Tuesday and am down 9 pounds. I can tell that I'm a little swollen, though...I keep telling myself to put the scale away for a week or so until the swelling goes down, but I can't bend over well enough to pick it up 😂

You need more salt. I felt that way the first day and called my doc. Thought I was getting dehydrated. Told me I wasn’t getting enough salt. Recommended a coffee mug with hot Water with 3 bullion cubes in it dissolved. Said we need 3-4 grams of sodium each day otherwise body doesn’t hold on to water, messes with potassium etc. the next day first thing I did was drink a coffee mug full of 3 bullion cubes with a spoon and honesty have felt great everyday since. Lots of energy and no problems anymore :-)

Night gown! So nice not to have pajama bottoms rubbing against incisions. Fairfree milk has 13g of Protein. Skim. Lactose free. I mix two cups of this with one vanilla Pure Protein (30g of protein) which equates to 56g of protein in total.

I had the exact same thing that came on randomly for about the first week post op. I think it is normal and a result of all the air they pump into you to lift the abdominal wall off your stomach during surgery. Try to walk as much as possible and drink slowly. I also found having lukewarm fluids was easier. Try not to worry but certainly call your surgeon if things get worse (fever, vomiting).

Thank you. Yeah I’m only 4 days post op and suddenly I’m just able to drink. I’m still taking it slowly but I’ve drank about 24ounces in 4.5-5 hours or so. I am tolerating it well and it doesn’t hurt. I just want to make sure I’m not going to effect my suture line or anything by drinking too much too quickly.

No, you can't hurt yourself or damage your sleeve from drinking too much or too quickly. The pain you feel will stop you for going to far and liquid will pass through your stomach and right through your pyloric valve without resistance. You are told to take small sips frequently in order to make sure you are well hydrated and not in physical discomfort. After your stomach swelling subsides, you'll be able to drink like normal. I was sleeved on 12/17 and I can already drink the same as I did before surgery (big gulps). Since I can drink "normally", I haven't been taking sips constantly, but always have my water bottle handy and drink regularly--hitting at least 64 ounces a day and sometimes closer to 100. The drinking really is a big key to rapid weight loss.

It really is the worst. How are you doing on fluids? Are you able to get down the Protein Shakes and get 64oz of Fluid in already? I’m struggling to get it all down.

I already know his story, thank you like I said previously to another poster. I also checked and nothing new has come up. I will ask for respect on my decision and that we can keep this post positive. I have gone over seas for surgery and have had good experience and if it doesn’t it’s mine decision. Thank you.

It really is. My family keeps telling me to drink more and it's so annoying...obviously if I could drink more, I would!
