lol, I wish - I do it at the gym on a treadmill. I would love to do it outside, but Texas heat . . . I don't think I could walk it let alone run it. Hopefully this fall I can incorporate my puppies into the run. (If I don't go into cardiac arrest on Wednesday!)

Thanks! I am totally new to running, heck I have only been working out at all for 2 months! I need all the help I can get!

My normal workout is 33 min on the eliptical everyday in Weightloss Mode Then about 20 min strength training on my arms (I have 0 upper body strength), then a few times a week I also hit the treadmill or bike. I work out 45-1 hour 6-7 times a week. I want to make sure I don't get too stiff, I am not sure if I should only run on MWF, or just add the running into my current schedule.

I am going to do it again on Wednesday, all though as the day progresses, every time I stand up, I feel like I broke both hips! Ugh! Do you know, should I do my regular exercise on the days I run, or skip them on those days?

There is a thread in the Exercise and fitness forum with links to 2 different podcasts. The thread is: couch 5k come join me the links are on the first page of responses, near the bottom. I downloaded the first one, but as I re-read it, they suggest the second link.

Okay, so I have been working out at the gym everyday. I feel so good about myself that I am actually doing this and making an effort to lose weight. On to the crazy part. I am trying, (note I said trying and not DOING) to do the Couch to 5K Program. Today was my first day and I feel like I am going to die. Literally, my body would welcome death right now! The program starts you off with a 5 minute warm up walk, then you run 60 seconds, walk briskly for 90 seconds, run for 60, you get the picture. I downloaded the wonderful podcast so the guy tells you when to run and when to talk. The guy (insert sorry sob), in the middle of the run, says, in a calm soothing voice, you should be relaxed while running, you shouldn't be out of breath, you should be able to speak to someone next to you. Are you freakin kidding me? I couldn't have called out for help at that point! I did it. I did the 1st day. I am supposed to do day 2 on Wednesday. I hope I can walk by then :-) My lungs hurt, my hips hurt and I hate the man on the tape. How did your day go?

Good Luck at your seminar - I loved mine! I felt like I knew more than everyone in there put together (thanks to this site). Let us know how it goes!
9. I did it and I am dying! lol. I have NEVER ran - ever. I downloaded the first podcast and about died when he says, you should be able to run this without getting winded - you should be able to talk while you run! Are you kidding me? Am I the only person who was totally out of breath? My hips hurt - on the outside of the leg - is that normal? I figured my calves and thighs would hurt, but the outside of my hips? Weird. And my lungs - I felt like I have Bronchitis (I had Childhood Asthma, I kept thinking, I feel an attack coming on . . . nope!) During the run, I kept thinking, screw this, I can't do this. But I wanted to see if I could. When I finished, I thought I wouldn't do it again - you guys are crazy. Now, an hour later, I am thinking how soon Wednesday will get here. I hope I can keep it up.
10. ~GinGin~ Sorry, he put me on 2 meds, it was Mobic and Flexeril, I just assumed the Flexeril was the nsaid, I guess it was the mobic.
11. Most Dr.s suggest no NSAIDs, Tylenol is Acetaminophen, not an NSAID. The reason for no NSAID's is due to the increased chance of stomach ulcers. (NSAIDs are known to cause ulcers), since your new tummy is so small, the pill would land in the same place over and over, increasing your chance even more for ulcers. (this is how it was explained to me). I can't remember is I can put a link in here, but here goes: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia With that being said, I have a pinched nerve and every now and again I have to take a Flexeril. A prescription NSAID. I freaked out, called my surgeon, he said it is fine to take - break it as small as I can (so it goes through the pouch), drink with lots of liquids. He said as long as I don't take them often I should be fine.
12. You can teach the dog to sit before being petted, that is the "gentle" way to do it. They can't get any attention unless they are sitting. (it is great for dogs who go crazy at the door bell and such) The most effective way is a knee to their chest - you don't "Knee them", but when you see them jump, pop your knee out, after they bounce into it a couple of times, they will start jumping up, but not touching you - then eventually stop all together. Another way, when they jump, gently press down on their back paws with your foot (best if you can be barefoot). Until the dog jumps down. You aren't trying to injure the paw, you are just giving them a negative feeling when they jump up. this works fast too. (just don't do it if you are angry, you could hurt the dog) Good Luck!
13. I have never been able to run. As a child I had severe childhood (exercise induced asthma), as well as being very overweight. As an adult, I am so big, and my boobs hurt so bad when trying. However, I now go to the gym 6-7 days a week and have mastered the elliptical! So, maybe I am ready to run. I think I will try this. Do you add it to your regular workout or replace your workout with this? For example, I do 33 minutes on the elliptical everyday and do weights every other day and throw in the treadmill and bike occasionally to spice things up. Do I not do any of this the days I TRY to run? Or run and do my regular routine?
14. Thank you - I imagine I won't be telling my skinny friends - I don't think they will understand how happy I am to be obese!
15. I don't know if my last comment went through because of the link I added, just in case: Thanks! You can Google BMI Calculator Morbidly Obese, click on the first entry and it will show you.
16. Thank you guys! You can Google BMI calculator Morbidly Obese and plug in the numbers. Here is the one I used. http://www.stronghealth.com/services/surgical/bariatric/calculate.cfm A lot of the webites will just break it down into overweight and obese, but this one gives you more details.
17. I can't believe I missed it! When I hit 232lbs, I moved from Morbidly Obese to Obese! WooHoo! Wendy stands for the round of applause . . . " I have prepared a speech . . . " okay, so no standing ovation, but it does feel good.

19. My Dr.s office said fills are covered. No time limit. Maybe that Dr. won't take insurance after 1 year for fills? (because of how little they pay)

It will change - French fries are difficult for a lot of people. While I had restriction - potato products were the only thing that gave me trouble. Your tastes for foods def. change. First off, some foods just don't taste good if you chew them 1000 times. I, even being restricted, loved the food I ate, it tasted wonderful, I just got full so fast. You are swollen and healing and your stomach is rebelling. Being on liquids and such for a while will help that. I am feeling for you - I hate TDYs. I don't know how you are so strong. When Eddie would leave, I would cry for days. In Sept of 2001, he left for Egypt - we had just moved on base, I knew no one, I cried for 3 days, then 911 hit and the satelite link at the Pentagon went down, we lost all communication for weeks - and of course, we were just the wives, so no one told us anything but your hubby is accounted for. I called my mom, bawling, told her I wanted to come home - her response (Army wife of 21 years). You need to grow up, calm down and get involved in your area! My response, (threw tears) I wanna talk to my Daddy! lol. He consoled me and told me it would get better . . . they totally reversed roles for that time period. The stress of your hubby leaving also has you tighter - so remember that for a week or so. It will get better - and if you ever want to talk deployment depression - you know how to reach me!

It was great while it lasted, almost a week! Since I canceled my Fill this week, my next one is July 9th. It seems really far away. But, I am resolved to workout more. I already go to the gym for 45 minutes a day 6-7 days a week. So, I figure I will try to increase that to an hour and half. Since I have such a hard time restricting myself to lower calories, I figure I will workout more. The strange thing, I have never exercised in my entire life. I had childhood asthma really bad and couldn't jog for 10 feet. I also had severe sleep apnea, to the point I had a 5 hour surgery to correct it at 18. I was one of the rare cases that had Sleep Apnea at age 5. The thought of exercising was always a joke to me. I didn't want to do it and I couldn't do it. So it never was an option. Now, I go, I work my butt off and I feel better. Don't get me wrong - I am counting down each minute while I am there . . . "come on Wendy, 1 more minute at this speed, then you can slow down some, only 2 minutes going backwards, then you can go forward . . . just a little more" Now, I don't know if that will ever go away or if that is how I will always feel about exercising, but either way, I will continue and feel better about myself for going. Now if I can just get some help with food. I have a bodybugg and I count each and every calorie. I eat way too much 1200-1600 calories a day, but without restriction, this is just a diet . . . a diet I have been on for 4 months . . . a diet where I am still hungry when I eat the small Lapband amount . . . a diet where I feel deprived . . . a diet that I can't do for the rest of my life. So, my 1200 calorie limit gets thrown out the door and I usually hit 1500 a day. I still feel deprived on that. I guess eating 3500 calories a day for most of my life has taken its toll on my brain. I won't let myself go crazy, I will keep it around this calorie limit until I get restriction. The week I had restriction - I had no problem keeping it below 1200. Ahh, what bliss. 12 more days till my fill.

23. Wow, you really give me hope. I would be happy with 1-2 lbs a week! I am losing, but it is taking a couple of weeks to see the scare move a 1 lb. Thanks for the encouragement!
24. Girl, I am with you on that. Tricare was super fast, but my Dr.s office took for ever! I called every day to see if it had been faxed, then I would call Tricare to see if they had received it - if they hadn't, I called the Dr.s office back and asked them to refax. Finally it worked. ugh, I hope yours goes quicker than mine. (Though once Tricare got it, it was approved same day)
